i predict this will be a very popular thread

my strategy for playing this game is as follows:

1) look at the clock
2) consider how long the tasks I have coming up will take
3) set all the characters to work for that block of time
4) come back 4/6/8 hours later and collect $$$

This game is so boring and yet because it only takes like 5 minutes a day I keep playing it.

basically i am always working tiered time stuff w/whatever assigned task stuff is going on, plus hitting the scratch game as often as possible. wish i had learned early on how useful donuts would be later instead of burning through them because i was frustrated waiting for buildings. also thx to boredom i have planted the actual corn crop on cletus's farm, which takes 90 days. currently stockpiling money to build either the huge magnifying glass or the popsicle skyscraper

One consequence of my giant blue house farm is I seem to be blazing through the levels. I'm on 25 now, but I think I am way behind on the quests... I think the last one I did was to build the racetrack.

Also I stupidly planted corn on Cletus's Farm. I'm guessing that might come back to haunt me when I need to complete a quest down the road.

I was trying to play this whole brushing my teeth this morning. I feel like if I'm just playing it by itself, I am wasting life away.

I hacked mine this week. I felt myself getting bored, so sniffed around and found an unlimited donuts/money hack. Renewed my interest for awhile, but it all but over now.

Only reason not to is sometimes you need characters available to do tasks in order to complete quests and unlock buildings, etc. Its a pain realizing you need Lisa to read a book for 45s, but she still has 23hrs of homework left to do.

I think the sweet spot for reward vs time investment floats around the 4 and 8 hour tasks; I almost always kick those off in the morning then go about my day until I start getting alerts for them, at which point I kick off another round and move on

Yeah my strategy was to get money/xp from houses every 8 hrs, and keep characters free for quests.

If you do 24 one hour tasks, you get more money and xp than you would for one 24 hour task. The shorter the task, the better the value, generally speaking. Plus shorter tasks keep you freed up, as in the Lisa example.

I finally started employing the blue house farming system and it is working nicely.

The main thing I hate about the Simpsons game is that it actually has the cheek to suggest you buy $70 worth of donuts. Like, okay, freemium is evil, but most games don't rub it in that you might actually spend twenty times a normal game cost on this shit.

Enjoying the tips here. Starting a small blue house cash farm, but it's the snake whacking that's firing up the completist gene in me. Bought donuts so I could get the snake stump and log. Doubt I'll get to the 12k snake level by May 9, but should get past the halfway point. Will send add requests (from cjohnhiII) if folk don't mind adding a 98% lurker. I'm good for semi-hidden eggs and building graffiti.

Also, unless I missed it above, if you click on Homer for the job screen then tap on his character ten times, you'll get 10 donuts and the Jeb Springfield statue.

So do these brown/blue/whatever house farms work well? I can't seem to get cash and I need 30K for the Android Dungeon. I really don't want to sacrifice aesthetics to make a house farm though.

I tend to do okay without a farm, though I've got a couple of duplicate houses. I'm happy playing relatively slowly, though. The one thing I was wondering about, actually, is if it's worth making bets at the track? I've mostly avoided it, as it seems more likely that I'll lose money than gain it.

I spent a week betting at the track because of the amusing descriptions of the races, then studiously ignored it

I was also able to keep abreast of all of my expenses without a farm by OCDing myself a schedule where I had a work break every 4 hours to collect cash and kick off new tasks for the characters up until building Ms. Krabappel's apartment, at which point I broke down and made a farm of 12 blue houses for just a little extra cash

Doing the same OCDing with the snake log/rock/stump collecting. Helpfully, they're all on the same 4 hr rotation, so I can do them all at once. Question - if a snake item is unactivated, are guests able to generate and reap the same amount when they visit? I'm back at work after a break, and won't be collecting right on the 4hr mark during the work day, so mine will be more available, if that's the case.

Re: housefarming, I overcame the same aesthetic concern by coining it the Pottersville section of my Springfield.

I dig the excess on some of your towns, where the repetition becomes Op Art.

I enjoy having both. My house farm is just a boundary, and the interior space is more normal. I enjoy the farming.

i don't get farming past a certain point, since the main brake on things is not really money but time. tho i guess the xp from farming would speed things up at the margin

The TO EA Forum states the donut purchasing ratio to get the next snake prize is 5 donuts per increments of 50 snakes, not prorated. If you're 51 snakes short or 100 snakes short, that'd be 10 donuts, so better to spend when it buys you more.

I discovered this game from the mongrel thread a week and a half ago and have been happily pootling along building bits of Springfield once or twice a day. I've found out if you start Lisa's quest to get snakes from another town, you can see how many total every one has, so if you're looking to give someone a boost that is close to a goal. Then just cancel on the quest.

Finding some relief in assigning most characters to their longest jobs, once I get check for quest opportunities. Means I'm not OCDing over making the most money possible, and also getting a single big daily payout to use on land buys or the latest item buy.

Have all of you high-level folks bought all your available land? The grid's 13 x 13, I think. I've been slowing on the quests in favor of land expansion, to make the game last longer.

FYI, once you build the squid port arch, do everything you can to always be building boardwalk sections no matter what - all of the quests so far from there on out require a certain number of boardwalk sections, no matter how cleverly you place the buildings. And the sections seem to cap at $5k 24 hours.

Found a different page that says if you plant the 90 day corn, then click on Cletus 10x, you get 100 doughnuts, and it's repeatable. Anyone here confirm that?

Completely agree, though they're pretty jokey/up front about misering out free donuts, and angling us to pay for them. What bugged me was that I got an either/or situation, and two donuts in the end, not one plus two from the second choice. Not like three donuts will buy anything in the store.

Seems like the further you get in this game, the longer the quest tasks get. That combined with the glacial speed of boardwalk building is killing me.

iPad 1 bug I'm seeing is repeated crashing when doing the scratch ticket. Closing all the open programs helps, but it's still 3-5 restarts before I can finish a ticket.

I haven't spied on the game but based on previous hacks it really seems to be a client-trust model where if the game on a phone says you bought an item it just gets stored on the server as such? idk, seems pretty lax

little googling seems to indicate they require your Origin ID to log into the game, so my guess would be that they log in using a hacked client and add the items

This latest level is buggy. I had gotten the SWAT truck and building the wax museum and was half way through the quests and then it suddenly went away. SWAT truck gone, museum gone, and my money. But the quests are still happening, but I couldn't continue. Then suddenly the SWAT truck is back as an option to buy, so I have to build up the cash again to continue the quests.

Why do I continue.

The level bug you describe hasn't hit me yet, though I'm having trouble keeping the characters free simultaneously to complete Krustyland and Springfield quests, and might not be there yet. Just got the Haunted Condo done. Looking forward to seeting up the Scratchy ride in front of the entrance like a god to worship.

And I'll own up to spending some cash at gamezino prior to their Monday closing, to get 4K donuts and the complete Halloween set. Kang was on my want list, and worth the extra $ just to have him racing around town. All previous "Why do WoW players spend real-world cash for items?" snark, drowned in hypocrisy.

Feels great. I just kept asking myself why and was unable to answer. I though I would eventually reorg my Springfield, but it always seemed so laborious.

Once I complete the land grid, I'm going to keep a mega blue housfarm, but surround it with a moat, barbed wire fencing, caution sawhorses, and woods.

5 days to build the tooth chipper go fuck yourself game. Esp since that is the endpoint for the krustyland quests iirc, after which you can exchange tickets for cash at a slightly reduced rate compared to just having peeps do stuff in Springfield.

Agreed, too much time on that one. Hoping there's some Krustyland content in tomorrow's Halloween update. Otherwise, will just save tix to buy all the Krustyland acreage. Maybe make a Champs-Elysees long road to the Hotel...

What's the deal with squishing gremlins? From what I understand it gives you 2 goo but stops the gremlin-placer from getting any more goo out of the gremlin. Is it bad form to squish, then? Or just an accepted part of play?

My understanding is that upon squashing, you each get 2. If you don't catch him within 4 hours the other person gets all 4 points.

The Halloween animation is all pretty good. I'm particulary fond of haunted Moe's.

I just got 10 000 donuts/tickets/moneys and about 100 squidport tiles through r3ddit, also most of the old premium items. The game's a lot more fun now with all the design options/buildings/chars.

If you're interested, it's super easy - go to (sic): r3ddit.com/freedonuts and there's a google docs thing you fill out that goes to "trusted givers", and within a couple days they load you up. There's also ppl you can ask in the GIVE posts.

i had stopped playing it already so this just kinda rejuvenated my interest. it does work, however. and it has made the game fresh again.

Yeah, I think I might hold off for the time being and store it in memory banks for when I get fully bored of the grind. And just hope it still works then.

Agreed on the beauty of the white/blue snowy landscape. Enjoying the playability tweaks of the character search and the left/right arrows while visiting other towns. Seems like the character clicking is quicker this time, vs. having to wait or click through the completed task money.

The only bummer is that my town's production of gift bags is miserly. Am generating ~60% bags to friend towns, so each visit to an active town is a single bag drop vs. leaving the 5 bag limit. Maybe that rate will increase as the Xmas update continues?

Character search is an excellent addition - with loads of characters I kept missing a few, especially the kids.

Pretty sure they've set the community rewards at a more difficult level this time, which is a shame but kind of inevitable. Not even a third of the way to the first one.

Yeah, curious about the community awards. Particularly around the Xmas holidays with people away from their electronics, I'd be surprised if all five are reached by the 1/7 end. Maybe they'll extend the event, or just gift them?

That tote board thing seems to me like it must just be a timer, really, and everything will be released on a preset schedule.

My daughter has this kid's tablet that doesn't support Google play for some reason, and so I downloaded the game from some blog, and it turned out to be a hacked version. The millions of donuts thing is actually fun if you're into trying to design and lay out your land, and if you don't just binge on premiums and speeding through all the quests right off the bat, it's fun.
