Kicks off tomorrow, key conferences are

Microsoft, 9.30am PT (5.30pm BST)
EA, 1pm PT (9pm BST)
Ubisoft, 3pm PT (11pm BST)
Sony, 6pm PT (2am Tuesday BST)
Nintendo Diect, 7am PT Tuesday (3pm BST).

Irritatingly I'm going to be on a plane during the first four of those but on the upside, it's a plane to LA, I'll be at the show from Tuesday. So, E3 ILG FAP anyone?

JimD, Sunday, 9 June 2013 18:01 (twelve years ago)

ooh jealous, are you press or developer side?
the terribly named Murdered: Soul Suspect has been the most interesting thing shown so far, wall clipping as a gameplay mechanic! http://youtu.be/IwyKqjM9Whg

( X '____' )/ (zappi), Sunday, 9 June 2013 20:05 (twelve years ago)

Oh I'm retail. So it's probably going to be a kinda bittersweet week really heh.

JimD, Sunday, 9 June 2013 22:09 (twelve years ago)

I'll be mainly watching this thru Giant Bomb's coverage/nightly video casts. Sitting thru daily pressers seems like hell, tho.

Hockey Drunk (kingfish), Monday, 10 June 2013 05:29 (twelve years ago)

i admit, i cracked up when Patrick Warburton showed up at the end of that Murdered trailer

Can someone bump this thread when MS show actual gameplay footage rather than prerendered cutscenes?

go cray cray on my lobster soufflé (snoball), Monday, 10 June 2013 17:05 (twelve years ago)

Ryse: crytek on-rails QTE game that copies saving private ryan and god of war. "exclusive at launch" meaning not exclusive
Killer Instinct: now there's a good teaser! 1 minute long, all gameplay
Sunset Overdrive: colorful shooting game, interesting
Forza 5: cloud processing cloud processing power of the cloud SAY MCLAREN cloud cloud cloud

oxygenating our wombspace (abanana), Monday, 10 June 2013 17:09 (twelve years ago)

god of war/qte shit = http://uzimacommunityblog.files.wordpress.com/2011/08/simonextreme.png

am0n, Monday, 10 June 2013 17:14 (twelve years ago)

supposedly Ryse started as a Kinect game. it shows.

( X '____' )/ (zappi), Monday, 10 June 2013 17:15 (twelve years ago)

Minecraft: who cares
Quantum Break: all cutscenes, still no idea what this game is
an episodic mystery game from the deadly premonition team that left no impression
Project Spark: obviously scripted kinect gameplay demo

oxygenating our wombspace (abanana), Monday, 10 June 2013 17:25 (twelve years ago)

so this is mostly just shooting games so far? + forza?

for the first time I'm starting to hope for the steam box b/c maybe I'm just getting too old for console gaming circa 2013

Euler, Monday, 10 June 2013 17:45 (twelve years ago)

some smartglass device integration thing that no one will use
kinect dvr demo that was obviously fake
Crimson Dragon: panzer dragoon type game, not much shown
Dead Rising 3: looks good. no loading times, open world. somewhat dodgy framerate.
Witcher 3: mostly cutscenes. pretty.
Battlefield 4: a/v snafus were more interesting than this entire series

oxygenating our wombspace (abanana), Monday, 10 June 2013 17:47 (twelve years ago)

wait what hold up, "panzer dragoon type game"?

they are either militarists (ugh) or kangaroos (?) (DJP), Monday, 10 June 2013 17:51 (twelve years ago)

Below: indie-looking game with not much shown
black tusk studios teaser with nothing shown
prerendered teaser for a halo game, announcement that it's 60fps, that's it
$499, dead on arrival

oxygenating our wombspace (abanana), Monday, 10 June 2013 17:57 (twelve years ago)

that awkward pause after the price reveal was p funny

( X '____' )/ (zappi), Monday, 10 June 2013 17:58 (twelve years ago)

$499

Wait, when did MS suddenly become Sony?

oxygenating our wombspace (abanana), Monday, 10 June 2013 18:04 (twelve years ago)

£429 in UK. PS3 launched at £425, and we know how well that went.

( X '____' )/ (zappi), Monday, 10 June 2013 18:07 (twelve years ago)

Well what a surprise, we get shafted again in the UK. Especially as most of the TV features won't work outside the US.

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 11 June 2013 03:15 (twelve years ago)

This year though, I gotta say, at least Microsoft and Sony focused on games & real games at that - no long kinect segments - no mention of move or 3D televisions. Too bad not much really stood out about the games, but at least it seems like they finally figured out who is watching these shows and made shows that were more focused.

$399 is a very nice starting price and it's great Sony decided not to go with a horrible and confusing DRM scheme. It's too bad it looks like they're going to start charging for multiplayer, especially because it seems like this next generation of games seems even more multiplayer focused...

( X '____' )/ (zappi), Tuesday, 11 June 2013 14:57 (twelve years ago)

Wow, Sony really stole a march on this one huh? Lower price is excellent news, but really backwards compatibility is such a fucking stupid issue to be carrying the day; otm re: selling basic consumer rights back to us as a feature.

Still, as a 360 owner I'd been wondering how I was ever going to get to play The Last of Us, guess this Gaikai service solves that problem at least.

Windsor Davies, Tuesday, 11 June 2013 15:24 (twelve years ago)

honestly, i think sony saw the opening and went for it; it's unlikely they were trying to "sell back game rights". all that stuff seems highly opportunistic. but yes. it's ridiculous but primarily because microsoft were acting ridiculous.

i didn't even give much of a fuck that you were mod (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 11 June 2013 15:42 (twelve years ago)

Oh yeah, no doubt, that's what I meant by stealing a march. I'm not sure to what extent that they're able to parachute in features or change up on the fly, but this definitely has the whiff of the big-wigs looking at the response to the xBone launch and scenting blood.

Well whichever, still a grosshund move imo. I've been an xBox guy for years, but I'm basically converted (provisionally at least).

Windsor Davies, Tuesday, 11 June 2013 15:48 (twelve years ago)

never heard the phrase "stealing a march" before. brit thing?
at that price point, i'll likely wait awhile but could cave by next year

i didn't even give much of a fuck that you were mod (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 11 June 2013 15:51 (twelve years ago)

the ps+ element is such a great system seller... i have like ten vita games just waiting for a system. If they get that thing to 150 i'll kinda HAVE to buy it...

i didn't even give much of a fuck that you were mod (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 11 June 2013 15:52 (twelve years ago)

idk, is that a Brit thing? Just realised that post up there is littered with military language actually, been reading too much about Rome Total War 2.

Yeah, the price is still a bit high for me too tbh. never yet bought a console without more than a year passing from release date, the price drop is usually worth it.

Windsor Davies, Tuesday, 11 June 2013 15:58 (twelve years ago)

agree with you forks; nothing at launch is making me jump to get it, but next year definitely possible, after we start seeing the various 2013 up-ports

Nhex, Tuesday, 11 June 2013 16:32 (twelve years ago)

never heard it before either. how does one possess a march

Nhex, Tuesday, 11 June 2013 16:59 (twelve years ago)

"Steal a march" is an old phrase used to indicate when one does something before an opponent and thus gain a tactical advantage. Armies "would steal a march" by moving while the opponent slept.

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 11 June 2013 17:01 (twelve years ago)

getting an extra day's marching in by losing an entire night's sleep before a battle seems a bit risky to me - you end up 20 miles closer to people trying to kill you while you struggle to stay awake

the article itself says they were trying to make it clear that the article writer wasn't making up the fact it was a rape reference, which is pretty sad in all respects

I've got to stop reading the comments from MS fanboys because it's giving me a rage headache.

I think the XBone makes some amount of sense if you don't actually care about gaming; I said on another thread that a good friend of mine is directly within their target demographic (he currently owns a PS3 that he uses exclusively as a Blu-Ray player, plus an Apple TV, and is the type of person with disposable income who would love to consolidate those two devices into one box).

That being said, after their stunning E3 performance I would be avoiding XBone even if it came with bags of money attached to it.

I get the feeling that the XBoxOne was designed to fit in with what non-gamers wanted 5-6 years ago. But now those features are either built into TVs, or are provided by the free boxes that people get with their cable/satellite sports subscription.

do people actually use SmartTV stuff tbh? (besides Netflix, which is available on every smart TV, console, and utility box at this point) I see AppleTV as an exception, let alone Roku/etc.

Nhex, Wednesday, 12 June 2013 14:27 (twelve years ago)

SmartTV features I have used:

- Netflix, Hulu, HBO Go
- Youtube
- music streaming
- ...

boned

Euler, Wednesday, 12 June 2013 15:57 (twelve years ago)

After telling us that if we couldn't afford a fast enough internet connection we should buy a 360 instead, MS went on to insult our mothers.

I'm just mystified by microsoft, I've never seen anything like this. It's like a charlie sheen public meltdown....the mattrick quote came off so poorly & unlike when adam orth made those tweets it's not like they can pawn it off as an employee talking out of turn, he's president of IEB...sad thing is that he's very nice & comes off well irl, not a business school guy, founded the first canadian independent developer in his parents house as a teen

I'm somewhat mystified by the fact that there are actual Microsoft fanboys. I thought everyone hated them since at least the mid 90s.
