the defender had no chance of elevating to challenge Edwards, but he did what he could to draw the charge. he failed to arrive in time to succeed, but he basically sacrificed his body in the attempt. he doesn't deserve to be taunted or gloated over. none of the players on the floor took it that way afaics.

the NBA version is a pale shadow of MotD though - they need to get better at showing how plays develop, the ebb and flow. they also need to isolate the commentary from the crowd noise so they can blend from one play to the next more seamlessly. last - and i hope you're taking notes, NBA - they have to work in cutaway shots of the bench and the coaches to further help with that

its just youtube man they do every game were not talking about some fancy tv show, that does sound nice

tho on the other hand the speed at which they get these clips packages up is good you can watch them basically right after the game ends

yeah that’s good. match of the day takes maybe 4 or 5 hours tho it’s not terrible. and then you have studio guys doing breakdowns etc afterwards. basically the NBA should improve those highlights and then get whoever runs those “bball biomechanics” twitter accounts etc to discuss each game with a star or two, use light pens to draw on freeze frames

i mean they do have stuff like that on tv, tho more for the nfl than nba, nba plays just not as interesting for people idk, i think they have tried technical breakdown shows before on nbatv but not sure it went anywhere, i personally do like learning about plays, you see it more in articles these days with lil accompanying videos, and yeah on twitter

the general level of technical knowledge of nfl fans is crazy these days, due mostly to madden lol

i mean every team just runs spread high pnr now with some scattered sets anyway

it's still fun to watch how different players and teams excel (or fail) at the execution though

i found some basketball website a couple of weeks ago that was like a compendium of plays, all coded into some kind of, i dunno java applet that let you watch the x's and o's move to different places, with commentary on each stage of the play as it developed and they were INSANE. like 8-stage plays where if a shot's not possible you go on to the next stage, i don't know how anybody remembers this stuff much less executes it in the face of the defense

yeah its nuts

if you ever read in depth like scheme analysis about the NFL it’s fuckin insane all the things those guys have to know just to properly execute a single play. both the memorization and then implementation is bonkers. like if you’re a linebacker you might have to look at what the TE or WR or RB or OL or QB is doing before the snap, where they’re lined up, where they motion to, where they are in relation to everyone else on the field and then it all could change after the snap based on where everyone runs and you have to process all this in like 1.5 seconds while surrounded by some of the best athletes in the world. it’s madness

sengun is one guy where im like what if he is the new jokic i mean thats a high standard but he seems like he'll be really good

yeah. i think the main difference is size. jokic is just so much bigger, he’s def more of a presence on the floor. sengun reminds me a lot of dario saric with much more skill. but in certain line ups seems like sengun could be dynamite

jimmy butler esp in the first like 2/3rds of the season when he’s kinda coasting is a serial lay up passer upper for an open three and for like two seasons it kinda really bothered me but enough of the threes kept going in that i had to be like, ok it’s the right play

he couldve scored there easily prob what trigged his pass instinct was that he was in a weird spot directly under the basket with his back to the backboard and there were two defenders in the area, feel like its become a standard thing to kick it out when you draw two, which is prob winning on average but sometimes leaves something on the table

i think if you're hitting a guy for a wide open corner three who would otherwise be guarded -- which is to say not passing to a player who the defense wants to shoot -- it's prob the right move these days in almost every game situation these days. when you're talking about like the fourth quarter of a tight playoff game then probably not, but the way most regular season games are played these days... i understand why it's offensive to the soul tho

gordon is pretty good at finishing those plays but the nuggets play on a string so well that he prob just knew/already saw KCP in the corner and just continued the play instead of finishing it himself, pretty much a win win situation

gordon pretty clearly had better shot there the pass was a mistake but it was still a good shot

yeah he made the shot to complete the highlight but its unsound and i cant be talked out of it. gordon caught the ball in the same spot (prob worse positioning) with brunson draped all over him on the behind the back pass from jokic and managed to do the right thing
