that was a fun win for the kings & they should totally feel confident that they can beat the warriors

i also feel like the warriors should feel like they have very little to worry about

before the series i didnt have a lot of faith in the kings they dont defend theyve had perfect health all their players have weird flaws they not been to the offs before but now im wondering how much faith i shouldve been putting in the warriors, once the kings started pushing towards the end of the 3rd the warriors did not look good and they got tired in crunch time they were relying on the steph and klay just hoist offense which tbf almost worked but they just didnt have anything left to run their actual offense, now what happens when the kings look at that and say fine were going to play as fast as we can all game to try to wear the old guys down

also should be said that the non steph offense looks pretty shaky

both these rosters are super perimeter heavy wonder what sort of weird configurations theyll throw out as the series goes on i want to see a ten guard battle

Mike Brown will definitely try to have the Kings running top speed all series

yeah its a no brainer yet they somehow werent doing it for the first half + last night, maybe just feeling things out idk

the dubs did play the fastest pace in the league where sacto was in the middle of the pack so from that pov its not exactly clear that going fast is an advantage for the kings but i think the dubs speed is maybe a lil more about getting into offense fast getting secondary transition stuff etc than it is about flat out running, also it doesnt have to be necessarily running from the kings but just attacking decisively forcing the issue playing physical drawing fouls and so forth would be good for them things of that nature

neither team is very physical but the kings being younger and more athletic should give them the edge there

also wonder whats going on with draymond he sat for a long time in the 4th then looked gimpy when he came back in

kings got 48 points on 14-21 shooting, 6-10 from 3 and 14-14 from the line from malik monk & trey lyles. suffice to say that prob isn’t happening again

i thought the warriors played okay and the kings played pretty great and the warriors were still a missed three from a guy who hasn’t played in months away from sending it into OT. steph didn’t seem very involved at the end, it didn’t feel like the warriors treated that as some hugely important playoff game. maybe it will come back to bite them idk. but if that’s what the kings threw at the warriors in game 1 & they still almost won i think the warriors prob feel like they can get this one in 6

if fox just cooks them the whole series perhaps that could be their downfall. but sabonis & huerter had poor games & that feels more structural to me and that prob won’t be offset in any other game by 50+ bench points. i think the warriors will live with a steph vs fox duel if that’s what it comes down to in some of these games

prob the things that happened in that game wont happen in exactly the same way the next game yeah

the dubs should be able to beat the kings but can they? do they still have the extra gear or are they fuckin cooked? can draymond still go out there and wreck the the opposing offense for five minutes straight? idk which is why i will turn in to see

dubs could still beat the kings even if they are cooked but thats it theres no way they get past the second round in a cooked state

the clippers weren’t exactly playing the greatest defensive line up known to man but in a shocking turn of events the suns have a very easy time getting good shots in crunch time. i also thought they looked good defensively at the end too. booker being above average at D + KD means they have a pretty strong defensive backbone out there w/ their main 4 while also being elite or close to it offensively

i thought the stuff that killed them was just like… new team stuff. leaving guys incl kawhi wide open for threes off scramble type plays & offensive rebounds. not all out gang rebounding. in general rebounding seems like their biggest flaw to me… they’re a small team and ayton is only an ok rebounder for a guy his size. they were def getting outhustled by russ & there was some bad bounce luck, but i also thought russ exposed phx’s size/athleticism a bit. their guards are small, they’re kinda small at forward too, and ayton plays smaller than he is

all that said tho i’m still looking at a crunch time 5 of kawhi + westbrook, mann, gordon & zubac and thinking this is still a pretty tall task for the board man. even w PG hurt their roster has really gone backwards in the last year or two

they are at a talent disadvantage for sure but the lack of cohesion from the suns, a weak bench and shaky coaching gives them a chance.

the minutes situation for the suns is very worrying feel like cp3 and kd will probably die if it continues

i think the thing about a decent trade for a guy like trae is its almost always primarily built around draft picks just cause the team getting him is trying to be good so they cant afford to give up good players, you might get a good young role player who when unleashed turns out to be better than people thought like bridges in the kd trade but thats pretty rare

hawks are also over lux tax next year which obvs isnt great for a playin team if i were them id be thinking about blowing it up or like partially blowing it up keeping some young guys but dipping into the lottery for a couple years, doubt their new star coach would be too stoked about that tho, suspect theyll just run it back next year gotta give snyder a chance with trae, i have seen some promising signs of trae moving the ball quicker getting into plays and so forth less just spamming the pick and roll over and over, tho maybe theyre just over him and snyders not a fan idk

maybe try to upgrade their shooting and defense around the edges a lil

we talked about this last year but for me their problem is that they're small and soft. when they match up vs a team like boston or last year's heat team it just feels like the varsity vs the JV in terms of one team being bigger faster stronger tougher better. the crowning achievement of this nucleus was beating a sixers team that was even more immature and tumultuous than the hawks

physicality is somehow underrated in the nba

i could see the hawks diagnosing the problem the same way i am & coming to the conclusion that the root issue is trae & that he needs to be moved. i could see a version of this team w/ murray as the lead guard next to bogdanovic, w/ more johnson & okongwu, and hunter and capela in there that shifts 180 to a more athletic and defensively minded identity. you prob take a step back next year but there may be more sustainability in a team built that way than one built around trae

i just struggle envisioning the roster where trae is flourishing in the playoffs. i guess maybe it would look something like toronto's or brooklyn's in terms of the wings. but is trae that much better than FVV? he certainly isn't defensively & FVV got picked on in that sixers series last year so i don't think surrounding trae w/ great defensive wings is a magic bullet come playoff time or anything.

i hesitate to bring this name up bcuz i don't think trae is the same guy but this almost reminds me of the ben simmons situation where finding a fit w/ a team that has already formed its nucleus is really hard bcuz he's such a unique player. i do kinda think the best bet for trae would be to end up in a small market wasteland-y type situation where a GM could engineer a team around him that maybe was better conceived than the hawks. but trying to fit trae in as a puzzle piece on an existing winning team is really hard. how do you watch the last two playoffs and think "if we get trae young we can win more playoff rounds than we did last year"

i think a few years ago we had a trae discussion based on similarity score projections 538 had posted preseason & i said that to me trae's floor was players like marbury or steve francis. others were saying his floor was i.e. kyrie irving. i bring this up not to toot my own horn bcuz his career still has a lot of years left but there has always been an outcome where trae is the kind of player who just doesn't really lead you anywhere. i'm really curious how many GMs see it the other way and would essentially be willing to bet their careers on it
