The 2026 NBA playoff bracket is set. All 20 seeds are locked in, and the postseason gets started on Tuesday with the Play-In Tournament. In the East, the Raptors clinched the final top-six seed and a guaranteed playoff berth on Sunday, and the Nuggets closed out the regular season by clinching the No. 3 seed in the West over the Lakers.

The Play-In Tournament will run through Friday, and the first round of the playoffs will tip off on Saturday (April 18). The play-in will decide the No. 7 and No. 8 seeds in both conferences, but we already know four of the eight first-round matchups. In the East, the No. 3 Knicks will face the No. 6 Hawks, and the No. 4 Cavaliers will go up against the No. 5 Raptors. In the West, it's the Nuggets against the Timberwolves in the conference's 3-6 matchup, and the Lakers facing the Rockets in the 4-5.

The Pistons, Celtics, Thunder and Spurs await the winners of the Play-In Tournament. The Celtics, as the East's No. 2 seed, will face either the 76ers or the Magic in the first round; the Spurs will battle either the Suns or Trail Blazers in Victor Wembanyama's playoff debut.

If they were planning to tank they had plenty of chances to do it already. The draft may be deep this year, according to widely held opinion, but once you get down below the 6th pick or thereabouts the chances of your picking the right guy who's going to play much above his scouting grade starts to be a toss up among the next dozen teams. The Blazers are already fully stocked with role player types and a few young 'project' players. They don't need to go to that well right now.

I'm starting to think the play-in tournament is actually a great idea. the thing with these 7-10 seeds is they're generally .500 teams that are unlikely to make any real noise in the playoffs, I think an 8 upsetting a 1 and a 7 upsetting a 2 has only happened five times each, obviously it's possible (surely we all remember Jimmy going supernova) but it's pretty unlikely barring injuries to star players (and tbf that was a big part of the Heat's run). It's not like baseball where variance can swing wildly or football where you just have to win one game. In the NBA you usually just get your ass kicked. So I think it's cool to give these sorts of teams do-or-die games, way more fun than being locked into a low seed two weeks before the playoffs start. Also it gives the other teams a few extra days of rest which is definitely a good thing.

In-season tournament on the other hand has only seemed dumber every passing year. Does your typical NBA fan even know how it works? Do they even remember who won it this year? I don't.

thanks, this is interesting. not trying to make Deni out to be any more than he is, it's just striking to watch him ... just barrelling in there every time, daring anyone to get in his way and inviting any/all contact. very different from SGA, and i haven't really watched Jaylen Brown since Tatum got hurt.

imho its a great style of play every team in the league collapses on the driver when they hit the paint it totally shreds the defense, obvs not easy to pull off cause if it was everyone would be doing it, think one of the things with avdija is hes a huge guy which allows him to bowling ball his way into the lane, not many guys his size have his ball and movement skills plus he must just have the knack to find the rim too

saw that a higher percentage of his shots come within 3 feet than either shai or jaylen but that could just be because they take more 3s or whatever couldnt find the stats on the shot distribution when driving, but i would suspect that avdija gets to the rim more on drives since those other two guys are such mid range takers

The Spurs team defense has been (forgive me) tenacious. It's the real difference in this game. The blazers don't have the firepower to make the high degree of difficulty buckets they're able to get off against them. Maybe once dame is back things will shift next season, but how they incorporate him is a big question mark.

denver’s game plan for the first two games of the series, particularly early in the games, has been to have jokic out above the three point line to draw gobert away from the rim so jokic can find open guys. and it’s worked a bit, particularly in the first game where the nuggets got tons of open shots and just missed a lot of threes. he could have easily had 20 assists in game 1

that said I don’t really like the strategy and would much prefer to see jokic look to set the tone early with his scoring. he’s absolutely owned gobert his entire career. a consistent theme of jokic’s playoff career is using the first couple of games to feel out the matchup and ramp up his usage later on. but I’ve also been saying for over 2 months now that he just doesn’t seem right: his scoring and efficiency are down since he returned from injury and he just hasn’t been as aggressive. and it must be said rudy has played very well when jokic has tried to score on him. I do think jokic is going to find another level and denver is going to end up winning this series, but it’s hard to overstate what a setback it is to blow an opportunity to go up 2-0 and give yourself a chance to get to round 2 with fresh legs.

also thought ant played with a ton of heart last night. he could barely walk in the first quarter and ended up playing 40 mins. credit to him

knicks are in grave danger of losing the series imho hawks have found a recipe of playing fast on offense letting cj cook in the halfcourt and swarming brunson on D well see if the knicks have a counter, longer term the kat brunson combo is just inherently capped because neither play defense and kat is just such a low bbiq player, like one of the criticisms of thibs was his offense was too basic and now mike brown is running better offense and kat is doing worse because its too complicated for him, maybe thibs was right or maybe he just had a natural synergy with kat, basically they need to move on from kat is how i break it down, obvs not easy to do cause theyd need to get a good player to replace kat

added layer of weirdness too where the knicks had a fools gold run last year cause they beat the celtics but no one bothered to note that the celtics were injured, then they fired thibs and if they lose in the first round it looks like its a terrible decision when the team is prob about as good as last year, along the same lines some of their issues dont show as much in the reg season

the thing i keep coming back to with the knicks is that it feels like they need more ball handling on the floor when they have their main five guys out there. they actually have one too many 3 and D players and could really use another guard who can score. even someone like a healthy version of norm powell would make them a lot better than having bridges, imo.

but then i remember that part of the whole theory of this team was that OG and bridges have secondary ball handling capabilities to make up for the fact that there wasn’t necessarily a clear no 2 ball handler or true shooting guard on the floor. it seems like bridges ability to be a secondary creator was pretty oversold, however there’s also something about brunson being super heliocentric and the coaches they hire not exactly being offensive geniuses that feels like it leads to these series where brunson is carrying a huge offensive burden and the knicks offense as a whole doesn’t exactly feel dangerous

thought exercise:

— knicks decide they don’t want to trade KAT or don’t like offers for KAT

— you don’t want to trade OG bcuz he’s actually good

— you can’t trade bridges for value

in this scenario josh hart would be the odd man out for me, could you flip him for an actual shooting guard who can provide legitimate ball handling play making shooting? the issue is that you can’t skew too offense heavy bcuz brunson is already a big defensive liability, but still can you find a player in hart’s place that isn’t one of these center masquerading in a guard’s body type players? and i’m not a hart hater but it just feels like something has to give with this line up

it is cruel that divencenzo is far closer to the skillset they need right now than bridges, idk who fits that mold who would plausibly be available. i do like powell, there’s prob others. that would be my band aid fix to run it back next year

yeah they dont have any primary creation outside of brunson theyve got a bunch of guys who can handle some theyve got jordan clarkson who prob shouldnt be in a playoff rotation theyve got kat who can attack off the dribble but cant run an offense

btw classic playoff sitch josh hart shot 40% from three this season atl does not believe in it is leaving him open and hes shooting 10% in this series

next game hell prob hit 5 threes and swing the game but the hawks wont care and will still leave him open cause its the playoffs baby

it’s a chicken vs egg thing to me in terms of brunson’s heliocentricity and whether it’s atrophied OG and bridges’ games and made the knicks appear to have less secondary creation than they actually do or if the theory of the team is just flawed and brunson has to shoulder this level of offensive creation in order for them to be this good
