btw is rondo taking it to the next next level or what - his passing look so different than last season - all these crazy angles - all this tight zip - last night twice he hit dudes perfectly in the lane when they werent expecting it cause hes too abstract - guy is making me feel better abt the c's championship chances

yup, that's what happens when you have a no-depth team and bring in mikki and steph to "help" while everyone gets hurt.

whatever, last year was worth whatever happens for the next 5.

its just too bad lebrons not a free agent this year so he could announce his new deal w/the knicks while accepting the finals mvp

ice cr?m, Tuesday, 31 March 2009 22:23 (sixteen years ago)

lakers are the only team to beat cavs at home this year tho

carne asada, Tuesday, 31 March 2009 22:23 (sixteen years ago)

lakers are v good def not writing them off by any means - its the cavs size and physicality i see them having problems with - basically same scenario as celtics last year

ice cr?m, Tuesday, 31 March 2009 22:31 (sixteen years ago)

its just too bad lebrons not a free agent this year so he could announce his new deal w/the knicks while accepting the finals mvp

(a) hope you're right (Cavs over Lakers)! and (b) why why why must LJ go to NY, anyway?

I keep reading it, but NY has been pathetic for years now. I know the parallel is "KJ to Boston made them a champ again" and all that but . . . there are other teams, even if NYC is a top-shelf media city. Mostly I just don't like the Knicks.

Daniel, Esq., Tuesday, 31 March 2009 22:34 (sixteen years ago)

but if you are bron and have that combo of ambition and ability there is really no greater charter than for you to turn around one of the league's top 3-5 most storied franchises singlehandedly.

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 31 March 2009 22:38 (sixteen years ago)

lebrons said like 1mx he has his heart set on becoming a global icon - going to a media saturated world city will really help in that regard - and theyve got the coach in place to take his game to the next level - especially entertainment wise which has imo been an unacknowledged problem w/the lebron canonization

all that combined w/the fact that he absolutely refuse to make even any halfhearted signs of commitment to the cavs makes me think

big monkeywrench at this point is w/the economy tanking and the salary cap falling - knicks might not have enough to sign another sweet dude - maybe bosh will take a discount

ice cr?m, Tuesday, 31 March 2009 22:48 (sixteen years ago)

it's gonna hurt to watch the c's in the playoffs this year. do i even want to put myself through it?

collardio gelatinous, Tuesday, 31 March 2009 22:54 (sixteen years ago)

should be noted that every sports reporter outside cleveland is considering a lebron move likely - absolutely no one is dismissing it - and they all talk to basketball people all the time often off the record - could be lebrons people are trying to soften the blow by making this a forgone conclusion - obv a lot of tea leaf reading there but not w/o merit imo

ice cr?m, Tuesday, 31 March 2009 22:56 (sixteen years ago)

big monkeywrench at this point is w/the economy tanking and the salary cap falling - knicks might not have enough to sign another sweet dude - maybe bosh will take a discount

See, I thought half the motivation for LJ going to NY, instead of somewhere else, is that he wants to single-handedly bring a championship to a downtrodden (preferably No. 1 media market) team. Otherwise, don't get him to NY and make a run at Bosh. And, conversely, Miami shouldn't offer a max contract to Bosh, as it apparently plans to do. Instead, cut out the middleman and have LJ go to the Heat for a max oontract. He'd win championships aplenty.

Daniel, Esq., Tuesday, 31 March 2009 23:22 (sixteen years ago)

(At least that's what I say. And LJ has kind of suggested he might want to play with D. Wade).

Daniel, Esq., Tuesday, 31 March 2009 23:23 (sixteen years ago)

Unless the money stinks elsewhere, I'd say LeBron tosses the Cavs in the ditch and moves on. NY does seem to be the odds-on favorite, due to factors noted above: world media center, the few remaining rags of glamor still attached to Knick franchise. NY also seems to be clearing the decks for an all-out attempt at LBJ.

Aimless, Wednesday, 1 April 2009 00:23 (sixteen years ago)

dont think diantoni should be ignored in the equation either - averaging a trip dub is not out of the question - and the knicks will play immensely charismatic basketball and be loved by all

ice cr?m, Wednesday, 1 April 2009 02:01 (sixteen years ago)

xp to d esq - i think theyd take the perennial championships over the lebron against all odds glory - even jordan had pippen

ice cr?m, Wednesday, 1 April 2009 02:03 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah. The really f---d up possibility I read about is that LJ and DW leave their respective teams for NY (again, the idea is that NY is clearing space to sign two maximum contracts). I can't see it, since Wade is beloved in Miami and the Heat will be offering another max contract in 2010 (since they'll be able to dump the J. O'Neal contract at that point). That's why I dream of an LJ/DW Heat team. But, say LJ goes to the Knicks as expected, and Miami loses O'Neal but picks up C. Bosh. That's a hell of an Eastern Conference (once you add Orlando) and some classic playoff battles.

Anyway, bottom line is that I hate the Knicks (just as much as I love the Heat and Celtics).

Daniel, Esq., Wednesday, 1 April 2009 10:34 (sixteen years ago)

so glad the nets new stadium two blocks from my door is going down w/the economy - had they been able to move to brooklyn in time they were a legit destination too

ice cr?m, Wednesday, 1 April 2009 14:19 (sixteen years ago)

are they still working on that move or is it off the table for the foreseeable future?

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 1 April 2009 14:23 (sixteen years ago)

they claim its still happening but its has been scaled down and and the groundbreaking pushed back - i just dont see it - i mean nothing new is getting built anywhere - even some projects that have been started are being put on hold - they dont have corporate tenants for the towers etc

ice cr?m, Wednesday, 1 April 2009 14:46 (sixteen years ago)

im not a crazy nimby person abt the project but i do think it was pretty poorly thought out and executed form the beginning

ice cr?m, Wednesday, 1 April 2009 14:48 (sixteen years ago)

should be noted that every sports reporter outside cleveland is considering a lebron move likely - absolutely no one is dismissing it - and they all talk to basketball people all the time often off the record - could be lebrons people are trying to soften the blow by making this a forgone conclusion - obv a lot of tea leaf reading there but not w/o merit imo

Unless the money stinks elsewhere, I'd say LeBron tosses the Cavs in the ditch and moves on.

yea as a native clevelander i don't want to admit it. i'm holding out that if the cavs do it up this year then maybe he'll stick around. my rationality about LJ's prospects is gonna be outweighed by my desire for cleveland to actually have a consistently awesome franchise, for a while at least

mark cl, Saturday, 4 April 2009 14:29 (sixteen years ago)

would it soften the blow if he left a championship or two behind

c?rvel (ice cr?m), Tuesday, 7 April 2009 14:04 (sixteen years ago)

mark cl, Wednesday, 8 April 2009 13:23 (sixteen years ago)

mark cl, Wednesday, 8 April 2009 13:24 (sixteen years ago)

c?rvel (ice cr?m), Wednesday, 8 April 2009 14:29 (sixteen years ago)

lol i keep forgetting that this thread is about the cavs now

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 8 April 2009 14:34 (sixteen years ago)

we can talk abt the c's - kgs supposed to be back in a few games - if theyve got him at even 80% i think they take the magic - celtics just match up too well w/big bodies to push howard out of his zone and great three point defense to neutralize the other thing the magic does - unless they pull some miraculous shit theyre pretty much toast v cavs tho

right. so I figure if they've made it to the finals, they should be healthy. watch, they make it there, and THEN the wheels fall off. having a young pg and bench (other than 'sheed obv) is key tho. i worry about older guards more than a frontcourt, and jesus shuttlesworth seems to always be in great shape.
