chemical ali v. chemical frazier (m bison), Thursday, 15 October 2009 03:53 (fifteen years ago)

(tentatively) set the draft for sunday, oct 25, 3:00 east/2:00 central

chemical ali v. chemical frazier (m bison), Thursday, 15 October 2009 03:55 (fifteen years ago)

Is this the no bench one?

Gravel Puzzleworth, Thursday, 15 October 2009 16:28 (fifteen years ago)

the very same

chemical ali v. chemical frazier (m bison), Thursday, 15 October 2009 16:36 (fifteen years ago)

wait so it's 12 guys in a head to head league? this seems like madness

the 2009 SB'd awards hosted by lebanned james (agent hibachi), Thursday, 15 October 2009 17:07 (fifteen years ago)

i mean im in but this is hardcore

the 2009 SB'd awards hosted by lebanned james (agent hibachi), Thursday, 15 October 2009 17:08 (fifteen years ago)

how so? just dudes collecting stats and whoever wins stat categories gets "wins" for that week

chemical ali v. chemical frazier (m bison), Thursday, 15 October 2009 17:09 (fifteen years ago)

is this easy to do? im a n00b

am0n, Thursday, 15 October 2009 17:10 (fifteen years ago)

well with just 12 guys it seems like it will swing a lot with which players actually get to play 3-4 games in a given week

not much room for injury either...if (lets say) kobles goes down for three weeks do you drop him and hope to scoop him back up? or just roll with it

the 2009 SB'd awards hosted by lebanned james (agent hibachi), Thursday, 15 October 2009 17:18 (fifteen years ago)

having 12 dudes will lessen the impact of players playing barely at all or hella a lot, unless i read u wrong and we should have more dudes to further dilute such impacts

im pretty sure its default that you can place IR guys provided they are labeled IR or DTD, but i'll check to be sure

chemical ali v. chemical frazier (m bison), Thursday, 15 October 2009 17:31 (fifteen years ago)

yeah im not sure if im reading it wrong...it looks like all 12 guys play weekly and the roster is limited to 12 (except maybe w injuries). which i guess evens out since everyone will only have 12 guys for 12 spots meaning everyone has like one sg w/4 games and one sg w/2 games each week right? just thinking it might be nice to have three bench spots like a real team to grab waiver guys or have a backup for slumps ya know.

im cool with ast/to ratio but maybe its a weird stat...might devalue pgs actually? seems like it will basically be a null or negative for all non-pgs and make all but elite pgs essentially equal to bad sgs or combo guards?

the 2009 SB'd awards hosted by lebanned james (agent hibachi), Thursday, 15 October 2009 19:15 (fifteen years ago)

vs just using assists i mean

the 2009 SB'd awards hosted by lebanned james (agent hibachi), Thursday, 15 October 2009 19:15 (fifteen years ago)

PGs will still dominate the ratio stat (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/statistics?stat=nbaassists&sort=astto&avg=pg&seasontype=2).

theres a few cats in there who dont average a ton of assists but get enough and dont make a lot of mistakes so they get a good ratio. i feel like those dudes are pretty valuable. plus, doing it this way will allow the elite PG's to serve a more valuable role. since theyre getting so many touches and dishing so much, theyre going to have high raw turonver numbers. didnt feel rite to have a guy carrying you in assists and shooting in the foot in TOs.

chemical ali v. chemical frazier (m bison), Thursday, 15 October 2009 19:54 (fifteen years ago)

Oh we still pick 12 players? I though "no bench" meant we picked, like, 5.

Gravel Puzzleworth, Thursday, 15 October 2009 19:55 (fifteen years ago)

yeah, no bench in this case means everyone drafted plays every game (exceptions being injured dudes, you rent a baller to hold fort)

chemical ali v. chemical frazier (m bison), Thursday, 15 October 2009 20:05 (fifteen years ago)

with every explanation i feel like i am the commish of XBA fantasy hoops

chemical ali v. chemical frazier (m bison), Thursday, 15 October 2009 20:05 (fifteen years ago)

btw we are gonn have a foot race to determine who gets no 1 pick

chemical ali v. chemical frazier (m bison), Thursday, 15 October 2009 20:06 (fifteen years ago)

oh i was thinking we just ditch TOs entirely, i dont know anyone who likes having them at all in any league although theres always a sock argument that it keeps nate robinson types from getting "too much" value

i'm kind down on a stat that ranks d fisher in the top five and rondo/nash/chauncey out of the top ten but im cool

the 2009 SB'd awards hosted by lebanned james (agent hibachi), Thursday, 15 October 2009 20:52 (fifteen years ago)

just gotta get in that XBA mindset

the 2009 SB'd awards hosted by lebanned james (agent hibachi), Thursday, 15 October 2009 20:53 (fifteen years ago)

I am in...with my worst team name ever!

mojitos (a cocktail) (Cave17Matt), Thursday, 15 October 2009 20:59 (fifteen years ago)

oh i just remembered, so last year we used turnovers which i think some leagues don't do...i kind of like them because i think the deron williamses and chris paulses should be more valuable than shoot-first/butterfingers-handle "point" "guards" but maybe that is controversial y/n?

though I know I'm the major outlier in this, if it'd be possible at all to move the draft time to like 8 or 9 PM instead, would be great, as I'm in HK and 3 PM for you guys is 3 AM for me...

chemical ali v. chemical frazier (m bison), Friday, 16 October 2009 18:01 (fifteen years ago)

just reviewed the yahoo rules and since the nba (non-xtreme bball ass) no longer has an injured list this year, there is not IR spots. sooooo, how many bench spots are appropriate? i'm thinking 1-3.

chemical ali v. chemical frazier (m bison), Friday, 16 October 2009 21:42 (fifteen years ago)

running into issue: head-to-head leagues don't cap the number of games that can be played per position, so you could (with a bench) outplay dudes based on swapping players on yr rosters which was pretty much what was trying to avoid in the first place

chemical ali v. chemical frazier (m bison), Friday, 16 October 2009 21:47 (fifteen years ago)

yeah let's roll hard w/ no bench. xtreme.

Clay, Friday, 16 October 2009 21:51 (fifteen years ago)

k, some options:

a) keep the no bench head2head concept, strictly 12 players. if someone gets injured, you can risk losing dude to waivers to get replacement, try to fanagle a trade, or keep him on the roster and hope your stats dont sukk

b) add an insurance bench player (or two or three) to mitigate injuries. in a head-to-head league you can shuffle around your rosters to maxmize baller-hours, but now requires keeping up with who is playing when

c) ditch head-to-head, back to roto and add some bench. this will cap number of games per position (thus bench guys would be true emergency injury types) but no thrill of mano a mano hoops stat beatdownz

suggest friend (hmmmm), Saturday, 17 October 2009 13:56 (fifteen years ago)

maybe we should split up assists and tos, because i think in h-2-h an even number of categories would lead to a lot of non-nbaish ties (or maybe we could add some other category, as long as there's an odd number)

suggest friend (hmmmm), Saturday, 17 October 2009 13:59 (fifteen years ago)

wins and losses are determined by the individual categories as opposed to an aggregate of said categories (so if you get 4 and the other guy gets 4, you both have a 4-4 record as opposed to a tie each)

sweet, tnx

dyao, Monday, 19 October 2009 02:16 (fifteen years ago)

ah ok i see why i was confused: i thought we set rosters and locked them in for the week, which means any bench guys would either have to go in for the week or stay in reserve. if it's day-to-day roto style roster shuffling, i say no and lets stick with A for the strictly hardcore. if we can lock in a weekly roster, i wouldn't mind an option A-point-one with even just one or two bench guys for insurance.

i think the weekly lock-in is how it worked when we did espn or nba.com h2h a year or two ago but i dunno if yahoo supports it... i think i was thinking it worked that way from the start bcuz of fantasy footballs

suggest friend (hmmmm), Monday, 26 October 2009 01:36 (fifteen years ago)

How does our scoring on this actually work? Like, does the system add up all 12 players' assist/turnover and then divide by 12, or does it total the assists and turnovers for the whole team and then calculate a ratio? Same question w/r/t scoring %s I guess?

(Have never played fantasy bb before, plz send trades involving Lamar Odom)

Gravel Puzzleworth, Monday, 26 October 2009 02:15 (fifteen years ago)

wrt categories with percentages, if bball is anything like fantasy ice soccer, theyll calculate based on fta/ftm during that week as opposed to getting 81% game and 100% the next then dividing by 2

chemical ali v. chemical frazier (m bison), Monday, 26 October 2009 02:51 (fifteen years ago)

Okay so if we have no bench spots then could you please remove the condition that says we can't dump our first four picks in the draft? I couldn't be there for the draft and now I have Antawn Jamison and there goes ten games because I can't move him. See what I'm saying?

m bison will this be the case for everyone -- if one of yr top four picks gets injured you have to carry them all year long no matter what? because if this is the case then i guess i'll just hold onto jamison as he's coming back in 10 or 15 games or so.

Gravel Puzzleworth, Tuesday, 27 October 2009 18:02 (fifteen years ago)

yeah, any stats you log from a dropped guy will stay logged, adding a neu dude will count neu dude's stats after the add

Stattracker is amazing

Gravel Puzzleworth, Wednesday, 28 October 2009 11:49 (fifteen years ago)

Oh wait they can! Just the day after it processes? Why does it tell who they're playing on the day before that then gah.

Gravel Puzzleworth, Wednesday, 28 October 2009 11:54 (fifteen years ago)

So if I add someone today, he can't play until the 30th? Is that right? This is confusing.

Gravel Puzzleworth, Wednesday, 28 October 2009 11:57 (fifteen years ago)

yup-- it looks like if you put in the request for a waiver today (Wednesday), it will process tonight (like midnight when most fantasy stats turn over) and you'll have the guy officially on your roster for the following day- meaning Friday. Now that I get it I actually think this is good to discourage cycling your entire roster daily for whoever is playing a game, but still being able to react fast to bad news.

i'll see you in jamie mccourt then (agent hibachi), Wednesday, 28 October 2009 17:19 (fifteen years ago)

infinity a/t ratios are so awesome

i have a question about that. so at the end of the week is it calculating a/t for the whole team-- in other words lets say 300 asts / 100 turns is your team ratio-- and not adding up and dividing the individual a/t ratios, right? that would be weird right? in other words PGS should have more "weight" than random big who gets 1 ast to 1 to per game for a 1 ratio.

i'll see you in jamie mccourt then (agent hibachi), Wednesday, 28 October 2009 17:24 (fifteen years ago)

^^ yup, done cumulatively based on raw stats (this is how j kidd had ∞ last night but was folded into my team's a/t ratio of 2.44

囧 (dyao), Thursday, 26 November 2009 09:58 (fifteen years ago)

think I figured out a/t - it actually puts point guards at a disadvantage, whereas before point guards would help you in two categories - assists and TOs - now they can really only help you in one. also TO prone guys benefit in this system since the a/t absorbs the damage.

but what do I know I'm in lol 7th place

囧 (dyao), Thursday, 26 November 2009 10:00 (fifteen years ago)

also Allenby-bassett continuing with the torrid pace of add drops - pretty sure he's gaming the system to get maximum amount of games per week - isn't this what we were trying to prevent with the whole no bench thing

囧 (dyao), Thursday, 26 November 2009 10:04 (fifteen years ago)

yes i suggest a max moves per week rule capping around 4 or 5, if not this year then next.

also i am so over a/t ratio. works better as separate categories imo.

love this mumbo (Clay), Thursday, 26 November 2009 23:10 (fifteen years ago)

yeah, either capping the max moves a week or adding a waiver period (so you can add however many dudes you want but you gotta wait some days)

three months pass...

To anyone able and willing to answer: what's the scoop on this coming season? I'd love to join the league, if it's set up and I'm welcome.

AlexPh, Friday, 30 July 2010 20:39 (fifteen years ago)

probably won't be set up ready until october since i dont think yahoo opens up registration until around then, keep your internet machine dialed into this station 4 more details @ that time

for those about to s1ock, we slutsk you (m bison), Friday, 30 July 2010 22:47 (fifteen years ago)

one month passes...

Yahoo's opened registration!

Sorry. If it isn't obvious, I'm embarrassingly excited for this season. Been thinking of Hunter S. Thompson's suicide note, the aptly-titled "Football Season Is Over," since the playoffs've ended. I'm not feeling anywhere near as low as he, of course, but it is a bit hard to just follow trades and FIBA ball for this long--especially with classes just starting again and all.

Stoked to join my first fantasy league with you folks. That's all. Ready when you are.

i've never done fantasy bball before but i'd like to get back into following the nba and it seems like a good way to force myself to learn who's who these days

was every1 plzd with last year's format? i have the option of renewing last year's league

lunch card dudes get swiped out, totally (m bison), Tuesday, 31 August 2010 11:29 (fifteen years ago)

I feel like the assist/to ratio ended up not being worth fighting for

dayo, Tuesday, 31 August 2010 12:48 (fifteen years ago)

I would join this if you charming people will have me. If you're lucky I will be the punching bag of the league like I am in the ilbeisbol fantasy group.

mayor jingleberries, Tuesday, 31 August 2010 19:59 (fifteen years ago)

oh can i get back in? i was in the ilx league like years ago... i always lost tho...

phil-two, Tuesday, 31 August 2010 20:11 (fifteen years ago)

yes so psyched to get back on the fantasy hoops

would like to renew the head-to-head league but yeah, as dyao said, assist/turnover wound up making sense to some folks (not me) and kind of throwing off talent evaluation. i say zap that for straight assists (and maybe no turnovers if the league is big so everyone can get a pg or two?)

if there's mad demand i would be willing to revive our old roto-scoring style league too, but i say we fill the head-to-head version first

enjoy your day (agent hibachi), Tuesday, 31 August 2010 21:48 (fifteen years ago)

basically the way I broke it down was that there are only a few players (namely PGs) who will dominate the a/t cat. if you fill your team with those kinds of people it puts you at a pretty big disadvantage when going h2h with teams full of jackers and gunners + rebounding big men who can score, cause they'll be dominating points + 3's + boards

dayo, Wednesday, 1 September 2010 00:06 (fifteen years ago)

k, no TO's then, and assists are ok'd (SWAGGER JACKERS LEAGUE)

lunch card dudes get swiped out, totally (m bison), Wednesday, 1 September 2010 00:30 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah - I drafted Jose Calderon pretty early last time, and was kinda surprised at the non-effect, like he never turned the ball over but because he didn't actually get many assists his great individual ratio didn't really help the team?

Player I came to hate last season through fantasy basketball - RASHARD LEWIS

Gravel Puzzleworth, Wednesday, 1 September 2010 00:40 (fifteen years ago)

yeah - it would be nice if yahoo calculated the a/t as an average of the actual percentage instead of counting up all your assists + turnovers... would that actually have been better?

dayo, Wednesday, 1 September 2010 00:41 (fifteen years ago)

The problem is that sometimes people get INFINITY - I guess there's no way to average that.
