christ, kemba walker just single handedly beat witchita st (29pts in 2nd half), who is a lot better team than uconn

johnny crunch, Monday, 22 November 2010 22:14 (fifteen years ago)

i was at the game last wk where he scored 42~

anyway.

the other thing i wanted to say is that carter blackburn is a really good broadcaster

johnny crunch, Monday, 22 November 2010 22:15 (fifteen years ago)

yeah they might've wanted to try some new strategies at guarding him

J0rdan S., Monday, 22 November 2010 22:15 (fifteen years ago)

jesus christ duke looks amazing

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 23 November 2010 00:57 (fourteen years ago)

w/ the way unc looked in puerto rico, they look like they could legit make a run at undefeated

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 23 November 2010 01:03 (fourteen years ago)

shit they play mich st huh -- they could lose that game, looked like mich st had the guards to play with them & if duke has a weakness it's probably inside -- marquette is getting good points down there right now

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 23 November 2010 01:04 (fourteen years ago)

if duke has a weakness it's probably inside

meaning that draymon greene could have a big game while mich st guards play duke to about a draw

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 23 November 2010 01:05 (fourteen years ago)

man there are a bunch of large white kids on this team

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 23 November 2010 01:10 (fourteen years ago)

it's weird how teams just seem to routinely forget about kyle singler allowing him to just nail open threes -- they rarely even run him off screens it seems like, so i'll chalk up "invisibility" as a small skill

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 23 November 2010 01:19 (fourteen years ago)

i was enjoying the duke game for a bit and then made a crucial misstep and unmuted it

tho damn marquette is back in this apparently?

johnny crunch, Tuesday, 23 November 2010 02:06 (fourteen years ago)

DON'T HATE ON VITALE

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 23 November 2010 02:06 (fourteen years ago)

did you see vitale with the little kid he gave the book to? it was nightmarish

mookieproof, Tuesday, 23 November 2010 03:11 (fourteen years ago)

Vitale is making book on the side with kids as clients?!?

Aimless, Tuesday, 23 November 2010 03:14 (fourteen years ago)

i guess he wrote a children's book? so there was an extended shot of this little kid holding the book and vitale, with full robotic smile, shaking him and mussing his hair for like 20 seconds

i wonder if the book is dedicated to the general, robert montgomery knight

mookieproof, Tuesday, 23 November 2010 03:18 (fourteen years ago)

nah, probably his dear friend jimmy v. who taught us all never to give up

mookieproof, Tuesday, 23 November 2010 03:19 (fourteen years ago)

the guy is so hilarious during games, c'mon

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 23 November 2010 03:19 (fourteen years ago)

dude can't carry raftery's jock

mookieproof, Tuesday, 23 November 2010 03:25 (fourteen years ago)

well i'll agree w/ that

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 23 November 2010 03:35 (fourteen years ago)

listening to bobby knight do color is weird, because (apart from having to hear the play-by-play man kiss his ass for two hours) he's awkward and his contempt for everyone around him is thinly veiled. but he will actually say interesting things about the game being played, sometimes things no one else would notice or mention.

the thing with vitale is that everything about the game is merely a pretext for him to start shouting acronyms (that he then explains) or go off on one of his standard digressions (robert montgomery knight, jimmy v, david thompson, the 15 players that would be make his _____ starting five, dean michaelangelo smith, etc). when shit happens -- was that a five-second call or a foul? -- he's too busy talking about brett favre. he doesn't give a shit what's going on, he just wants your attention.

mookieproof, Tuesday, 23 November 2010 04:15 (fourteen years ago)

the team of raft, bilas, & blackburn doing the msu-chaminade game is basically abt as good as it gets

johnny crunch, Tuesday, 23 November 2010 04:21 (fourteen years ago)

man there are a bunch of large white kids on this team

lol, i was at the duke game and this is otm. not sure if i should be impressed by mason plumlee scoring at will against the shorter guys marquette was guarding him with, but he looked good doing it.

Missouri is gonna wreck NCAA brackets. They are capable of being realllly good and then will just make one inexplicable decision after another, so they might as easily lose to a 13 seed mid-major as they could knock off a 1 seed.

Austin Freeman is so good this year!

start building the marcus jordan legend?

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Marcus Jordan saw to it that the unbeaten run for Central Florida (No. 21 ESPN/USA Today, No. 19 AP) stayed intact.

Jordan scored 22 of his 26 points in the second half to help the Knights rally past Princeton 68-62 Thursday night in the championship game of the UCF Holiday Classic.

The son of NBA star Michael Jordan scored nine straight points early in the second half to wipe out a 37-29 halftime deficit for the Knights (13-0).

Jordan took over almost every Central Florida possession. Just as important, he limited Dan Mavraides to just two points after the Princeton guard lit up the Knights with 18 points in the first half.

"Marcus scored 26 points, which was just an unbelievable effort, but the amazing thing was what he did defensively," UCF coach Donnie Jones said. "I challenged our guys at halftime to come out with an edge the first five minutes or we were going to the subs and he certainly did that."

Jordan played on a sore ankle that prevented him from starting the previous two games.

"The ankle was killing me the whole game, but I just kept telling myself to push through it," Jordan said.

The sophomore guard shot 6 for 9 from the field in the second half and made 10 of 11 free throws. His fallaway 16-footer gave UCF its first lead of the game at 40-39 with 14:47 left in the game.

know what's weird to me? that the nba has two rules that distinctly make the game easier than the college game

1. in the nba you get 6 fouls instead of 5
2. in the nba you can advance the ball past half court w/ a time out

you'd think it'd be the other way around

J0rdan S., Thursday, 13 January 2011 04:11 (fourteen years ago)

well game is 20 pct longer in nba, get 20 pct more fouls

second is basically to create more scoring, same reason you have defensive 3 seconds in nba and no 5 second rule in nba

johnny crunch, Saturday, 15 January 2011 18:12 (fourteen years ago)

Why does UNC suck this year? They don't help each other up when one of them is on the ground and barely acknowledge assists! Didn't UNC invent the point-to-your-teammate while running to the other half of the court? I blame Zeller, who seems to want desperately to be Hansbrough. Would love to see Henson put on another 40 pounds, though. But then he wouldn't be Henson. Sigh. And Kentucky is now THE place for a point guard to go. Seems like it's gonna be a long time before we see another Felton or Lawson. Oh, and Make Your Free Throws.!

john. a resident of chicago., Monday, 17 January 2011 10:47 (fourteen years ago)

they suck cuz harrison barnes has been a bust this year?

J0rdan S., Monday, 17 January 2011 14:21 (fourteen years ago)

Maybe. As an aside, I was at the Illinois game in the next to last row and some kid blew out his vocal chords early in the second half after screaming "Hair-i-Son Barnnnnnes!" over and over and over all game.

I think there are two poles on this team -- epitomized by Zeller, trying to be tough-like-Duke on the one side, and Henson on the other, just wanting to have fun. I'd like to see the latter win out. I think Barnes gets pulled between the two.

fruit of the goon (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 18 January 2011 02:53 (fourteen years ago)

ha idk -- generally i have this problem w/ college bball where i can't really get into it until like after the super bowl & the big east is just always on TV and so many of the teams & their rankings are interchangeable to me

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 18 January 2011 03:18 (fourteen years ago)

5 final four teams tho

i'm talking about right now tho - the amount of legit contenders in the conference plus its depth - there's not really an easy game

fruit of the goon (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 18 January 2011 03:38 (fourteen years ago)

i mean they're gonna get get at least 10 teams in the dance at this point - whether one of them wins it is kinda irrelevant, arguing that it's not by far the strongest conference would be insane

fruit of the goon (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 18 January 2011 03:39 (fourteen years ago)

big 12 is strong too

fruit of the goon (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 18 January 2011 03:41 (fourteen years ago)

okay, as a kansas fan i have to say that marcus morris has become a better overall basketball player than i ever hoped he could be. before the season i was worried that ku didn't have a go-to scorer, but it's been marcus throughout. they could have easily lost all of the previous three games before tonight if he hadn't played so well.

circles, Tuesday, 18 January 2011 05:56 (fourteen years ago)

big east does seem really strong this season but, yeah, EVERY season commentators constantly talk how awesome the big east is. think it is mostly due to:

1) big east is a giant basketball conference with 16 teams, and people think having 8 tournament teams from the big east is way more impressive than 6 from the big 12/big 10/pac 10/acc/sec.

2) big east is espn's "home" conference and uconn is their home school so the big east seems like it must be more important, and espn has a near monopoly on showing and promoting college bball (not counting the tournament, obv).

Been reluctant to post due to Cleveland States mid season swoon (lost two in a row to Valpo and Butler) but this win tonight was really pretty good against Valpo, next up Butler on Saturday. Norris Cole is a strong point guard and they're getting some big help now down the stretch. Was going to the game against Butler on Saturday but then free tickets to Cavs rolled in as a Christmas present, which is bittersweet.

Anyway, it's nice to have a team to root for in Cleveland.

haha when i was in high school our home unis were orange (black on the road) and in the state playoffs we came up against a lower seed whose road unis were red. and our shooting guard was colorblind. we ended up wearing black shirts with orange shorts.

actually most of them have full-time non-basketball jobs and do this on the side, but get paid pretty well for it:

Each official is an independent contractor, hired by various leagues to work games. Top-tier officials are well-compensated -- based on ability, they're paid anywhere from $700 to $1000 per game, plus travel and expenses. But for Higgins and many others, college officiating isn't a full-time gig.

ice cr?m, Saturday, 12 March 2011 04:08 (fourteen years ago)

i'd definitely value him over kemba at this point but feels like kemba could probably have more of an upside - don't see either as a starter on a playoff team tho

kl0p's son (k3vin k.), Saturday, 12 March 2011 04:09 (fourteen years ago)

yeah you're fucking up if you're "bored" by fast break pullup 25 footers tbh

kl0p's son (k3vin k.), Saturday, 12 March 2011 04:10 (fourteen years ago)

fuck all of you measuring him by the nba

can he carry the mormons all the way or waht

mookieproof, Saturday, 12 March 2011 04:11 (fourteen years ago)

no

kl0p's son (k3vin k.), Saturday, 12 March 2011 04:11 (fourteen years ago)

he could prob take them to the elite 8 a la steph

J0rdan S., Saturday, 12 March 2011 04:12 (fourteen years ago)

if jimmer focuses on shooting threes he could prob stay in the league playing the redick/korver role for somebody

J0rdan S., Saturday, 12 March 2011 04:12 (fourteen years ago)

w/ a little extra muscle on his drives

J0rdan S., Saturday, 12 March 2011 04:12 (fourteen years ago)

as far as i can remember they havent beaten a legit tournament team all year other than SDSU and their second best player got suspended for GETTING IT IN

xp yeah that's what im thinking too, def has a more complete game than redick did, tho i have no idea if he plays defense and i know he turns the ball over way too much

kl0p's son (k3vin k.), Saturday, 12 March 2011 04:14 (fourteen years ago)

does kyle korver play defense?

J0rdan S., Saturday, 12 March 2011 04:16 (fourteen years ago)

byu would prob be in slightly better tourney shape if they hadnt suspended their starting center for doing sex

ice cr?m, Saturday, 12 March 2011 04:16 (fourteen years ago)

i know redick gives good effort at defense but he doesn't strike me as partic good at it

J0rdan S., Saturday, 12 March 2011 04:16 (fourteen years ago)

redick is p dece at D imo

ice cr?m, Saturday, 12 March 2011 04:17 (fourteen years ago)

redick was a much better driver (than previously) by the time he was done, but he never racked up 50 like that

mookieproof, Saturday, 12 March 2011 04:17 (fourteen years ago)

i dont watch the magic much but i've gotten the impression that he plays better d than most ppl would assume, def works hard

kl0p's son (k3vin k.), Saturday, 12 March 2011 04:17 (fourteen years ago)

otoh redick was probably distracted by pussy so

mookieproof, Saturday, 12 March 2011 04:18 (fourteen years ago)

J0rdan S., Saturday, 12 March 2011 04:18 (fourteen years ago)

mookieproof, Saturday, 12 March 2011 04:18 (fourteen years ago)

you root for institutions in south florida?

i note that you did not immediately proclaim yrself a mizzou fan

mookieproof, Saturday, 12 March 2011 04:29 (fourteen years ago)

i dont have an ncaa team i root for, i grew up right next to b.c. which is why i dont like b.c.

ice cr?m, Saturday, 12 March 2011 04:30 (fourteen years ago)

so bu or ne?

mookieproof, Saturday, 12 March 2011 04:30 (fourteen years ago)

i have univ of miami tatted on my chest

J0rdan S., Saturday, 12 March 2011 04:30 (fourteen years ago)

J0rdan S., Saturday, 12 March 2011 04:31 (fourteen years ago)

J0rdan S., Saturday, 12 March 2011 04:31 (fourteen years ago)

ice cr?m, Saturday, 12 March 2011 04:32 (fourteen years ago)

is jeff a duke alum? better be!

kl0p's son (k3vin k.), Saturday, 12 March 2011 04:32 (fourteen years ago)

when i grew up, pitt was full of whiners like charles smith. i was a syracuse fan and hated georgetown.

mookieproof, Saturday, 12 March 2011 04:32 (fourteen years ago)

uconn was unimportant then, though if i'd known what a punk calhoun would turn out to be i'd have, um, rooted differently

mookieproof, Saturday, 12 March 2011 04:33 (fourteen years ago)

also i am a duke alum

mookieproof, Saturday, 12 March 2011 04:34 (fourteen years ago)

idc about uconn football really (i hate college football) but basketball i am huge on obv

i grew up in upstate ny & was huge syracuse fan (<3 u gerry & melo) so the transition was awkward but ive made if effectively - i still root for syracuse in non uconn games tho

kl0p's son (k3vin k.), Saturday, 12 March 2011 04:35 (fourteen years ago)

i've known some ppl in miami to pronounce the state "mizzouri" because of that abbreviation

also the mizzou bball team & fball team use two distinctly different shades of secondary color -- it's v weird, i can't think of another school that's like this

bball = gold

http://columbia.faircitynews.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/ncb_a_english1_3003.jpg

fball = yellow

J0rdan S., Saturday, 12 March 2011 04:35 (fourteen years ago)

i was at the knicks game on monday, first time i saw melo play live since 2003, love that dude for what he did with cuse. dropped like 35

kl0p's son (k3vin k.), Saturday, 12 March 2011 04:36 (fourteen years ago)

that is strange xp

ice cr?m, Saturday, 12 March 2011 04:37 (fourteen years ago)

mooks we share georgetown hatred

my dentist (and travel bball coach age 12-13) played for syracuse in the 80s - i thought he was going to never talk to me again before i told him i was going to uconn, but he was like "anywhere but georgetown"

kl0p's son (k3vin k.), Saturday, 12 March 2011 04:39 (fourteen years ago)

dunno who im rooting for in this game really, we lost to both of these teams - louisville we def should have beaten - otoh notre dame plays man primarily and kemba could light them up

kl0p's son (k3vin k.), Saturday, 12 March 2011 04:44 (fourteen years ago)

VT just drilled a jumper to go up one over fsu w/ 4.7 left -- might've saved their tourney chances

HOOOOOOOOOOOLY

J0rdan S., Saturday, 12 March 2011 04:45 (fourteen years ago)

J0rdan S., Saturday, 12 March 2011 04:49 (fourteen years ago)

haha it's weird now

because i think jt3 is a great coach, and a couple of years ago the hoyas just fucking carved up duke running all these back door plays -- it was actually beautiful basketball.

my hatreds these days can be broken down to: calipari (who is from pittsburgh and apparently a totally personable guy) because of everything he's done. i mean he is 50% what's wrong with college basketball by himself. pitino, because fuck that dude with whatever is running down his leg. billy donovan for his fucking hairdo. calhoun because i think he's a cheater and his line about being the highest paid conn employee was reprehensible. gary williams because he has no fucking neck and his fans are gutless savages. i actually really respect roy williams, i just don't like his team.

i am confused about steve lavin, whom i had thought was a clown until recently?

mookieproof, Saturday, 12 March 2011 04:54 (fourteen years ago)

I don't know if jeff is a Duke alum or not, but Jeff is not a Duke alum. However growing up in NC, you have to pick a college bball team to like before you go to kindergarden, and I picked Duke. I probably just like the color of blue better then, that's how 4 year olds pick teams.

I actually went to NC State.

im pretty satisfied w/ that uconn draw tbh

johnny crunch, Sunday, 13 March 2011 23:01 (fourteen years ago)

J0rdan S., Sunday, 13 March 2011 23:14 (fourteen years ago)

yea mizzou scares me a bit, tho they were not great on the road right?

kinda feel the committee might not have wanted the better seeded "first 4" games to feature all big conf teams and so got vcu/uab in there as opposed to vtech/colo

johnny crunch, Sunday, 13 March 2011 23:26 (fourteen years ago)

lol @ jay bilas trending

mookieproof, Sunday, 13 March 2011 23:30 (fourteen years ago)

UCLA is playing sorta crappy right now, but got a 7 against 10 Mich St (which is dangerous), then the weakest 2 seed, then most likely 3 seed BYU (who we beat) or 6 seed St. John's (who we also beat). I want to beliiiiiiieeeeeeeve

Really the whole Southeast bracket is a total crapshoot. Really would like to see Wisconsin vs K-State, especially if they kept cameras on Bo Ryan and Frank Martin the whole game.

ice cr?m, Tuesday, 15 March 2011 02:53 (fourteen years ago)

i had missed this, but a hearty lol goes out to gary williams, whose maryland terrapins were not even invited to the nit.

"I guess there are different reasons why you pick teams, other than based on the ability of the team," Williams said.

As he has earlier this season, Williams suggested that part of that is a result of more effective lobbying.

"Next year, I think we're going to be a very good team, and I'm going to talk a lot about how good we're going to be. The Big East has done that consistently; the Big Ten has done that consistently. The ACC has to do a better job talking about how good its teams are."

the world is always so mean to gary

mookieproof, Tuesday, 15 March 2011 03:09 (fourteen years ago)

it feels really arbitrary that two teams will play each other to be #12, while #s 13, 14, 15, and 16 (in two cases anyway) are slotted into the dance.

yeah i think the problem is that they needed to get better teams into the game aside from "who gets to get blown to pieces by the #1 overall team" but anything over the 12 seed would be punishing some of the better teams -- idk, it's stupid

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 16 March 2011 01:36 (fourteen years ago)

expansion is so classic "wow everyone loves this great thing!! We should make more money off it and make it ridiculously big and make more money and ultimately destroy the thing that everyone loved about it OMG YESSSSS "

VegemiteGrrl, Wednesday, 16 March 2011 01:37 (fourteen years ago)

yeah as far as the casual fan is concerned nothing starts until there's exactly 64, so it punishes these teams even more.

The multiple dead ball fouls just about killed me. The part where Zeke Jones got called for an offensive foul for running into a dude after getting tripped was awful. The fact that we couldn't hit free throws at the end there was really really upsetting. But UCLA survived, and advanced, and fuck everything else but that.

I will see Tom Izzo in HELL.

I am real excited about K-State vs Wisconsin, and the winner of that against Pitt.

C-L, Friday, 18 March 2011 04:09 (fourteen years ago)

wisconsin's offense is extremely efficient but the problem with having a bunch of 6' 10" white guys that bomb from 3 is that you end up being kinda terrible at defense esp in the interior which shouldn't be a prob vs k st but pitt should wreck them

Georgetown has looked really lumpen and slow for the past month or so. I dunno what to make of VCU, they looked pretty cruddy in the USC game (but USC was cruddier), and then they looked good tonight, but Georgetown just collapsed on themselves, as is their custom. JT III is maybe not so comfortable in his own skin right now, there's only so far he can keep going on his dad and the 2007 tournament.

VegemiteGrrl, Sunday, 20 March 2011 21:04 (fourteen years ago)

except Michigan missed a lot of shots early in the game so, shrug

VegemiteGrrl, Sunday, 20 March 2011 21:05 (fourteen years ago)

VegemiteGrrl, Sunday, 20 March 2011 21:07 (fourteen years ago)

if texas wins that could be a good game -- they're kinda bi-polar, but if they're playing well you get a team that many ppl considered to be a top 5 team for like half the season

blingee cummings (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 20 March 2011 21:08 (fourteen years ago)

mich got a tad screwed by the ball bouncing out of bounds on that missed dawkins three but they got a really good shot off esp considering how young the team is -- it seemed like duke didn't realize how much time was left and stopped defending the guy once it became clear that he was running past the 3 pt line

blingee cummings (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 20 March 2011 21:10 (fourteen years ago)

symsymsym, Sunday, 20 March 2011 22:05 (fourteen years ago)

yeah because theoretically it gives you a chance to tie even if the team comes back and hits both foul shots, which marquette had been doing

Duke apparently not even bothering to close out on a 3 pt shooter who is literally just standing there waiting to see if someone is going to close on him.

C-L, Friday, 25 March 2011 03:46 (fourteen years ago)

They let it go in the last game too, but nothing like this

VegemiteGrrl, Friday, 25 March 2011 03:47 (fourteen years ago)

who on duke showed up for this game? kyrie, maybe, considering his injury -- but singler has been awful after the first two minutes and i think nolan smith has taken one shot (missed) in the second half?

Meanwhile, Wisconsin has scored 1 FG in the past 16 minutes.

I'm wondering how much Kemba Walker is (literally) worth to Calhoun? Winning the Big East tournament and making it to the Final Four adds up to how much in bonuses for a coach? Six-figures?

Also, just saw the Kansas band playing on a boat drifting down the San Antonia river walk. Those kids seemed about as stoked to be there as the players are. There's so much to like about college sports generally, but I so love this tournament. I do wish there weren't so many commercials and Powerade and "AT&T at the Half"s brought to you by AT&T. And I really want Bill Self to lose.

UCLA undergrad, mostly. There is a certain number of times you can watch a team storm the court after beating your team before you're just like "You know what, FUCK THE HORIZON LEAGUE"

xp they moved it back like 6 inches!

C-L, Sunday, 27 March 2011 20:51 (fourteen years ago)

it's so stupid -- there's prob like 50 guys in the nba right now who've been out of high school for less than four years & yet college juniors & seniors still get to shoot three pointers from like a foot closer

wavy g. wavegarten (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 27 March 2011 20:51 (fourteen years ago)

a foot, no - i mean they could move it back another foot - maybe like half way between high school and pros would make sense - i dont think you can make them shoot pro threes, theres just not enough talent

ice cr?m, Sunday, 27 March 2011 20:53 (fourteen years ago)

wikipedia always v fast w/this shit

At least one #1 seed has made the Final Four in every year except:

1980 – Louisville – #2 (champion), Iowa – #5, Purdue – #6, UCLA – #8
2006 — UCLA – #2, Florida – #3 (champion), LSU – #4, George Mason – #11
2011 — North Carolina/Kentucky – #2/#4, Connecticut – #3, Butler – #8, Virginia Commonwealth – #11

ice cr?m, Sunday, 27 March 2011 20:54 (fourteen years ago)

Ah it was a foot, from 19'9" to 20'9". NBA is 23'9", though.

22'3" seems like a reasonable compromise.

wichita just advanced to the nit final 75-44 over wash st...wazzou st's starters had a combined 6 pts i didnt see the game but it has to be that the coach just benched all of them?

Gravel Puzzleworth, Saturday, 2 April 2011 23:43 (fourteen years ago)

hey kev i saw your tweet at chad ford -- i'm assuming that he won't respond to you but this is from his insider blog from earlier this week

Jeremy Lamb, G/F, UConn
Top 100 Rank: 73

Kemba Walker has been the story at UConn all year and rightfully so. His will to win has been incredible. He was remarkable in helping lead UConn to wins at the Maui Invitational and in the Big East Conference championship. Now, he's two wins away from a national title. His 56 points and 10 assists over the weekend have done nothing to dampen his momentum as a top-10 pick in the draft.

But lost amid Walker's triumphant season has been the stellar play of freshman Jeremy Lamb. Lamb has been a steady scorer all year for the Huskies, but he's taken his game to whole other level in the Big East and NCAA tournaments and has become a dangerous weapon on both ends of the floor for UConn.

Lamb had 16 points in the opening round versus Bucknell, 14 points in a win over Cincinnati, a career-high 24 points against San Diego State and 19 points in UConn's win over Arizona. For the tournament he's shooting 56 percent from the field and an incredible 11-for-15 from 3.

Lamb's length and athleticism, combined with his shooting and defense, have caught the eyes of a number of NBA decision-makers. While no one is calling for him to leave UConn yet (he needs to spend some serious time in the weight room) the comparisons to a young Rip Hamilton or a smaller Tayshaun Prince don't seem so farfetched. Another great year at UConn should land him firmly in the first round of the 2012 NBA draft.

J0rdan S., Sunday, 3 April 2011 00:46 (fourteen years ago)

yeah i've gotten tayshaun vibes from him body-wise too

perry jones from baylor will be a top 3 pick this year -- in other news his team didn't even make the ncaa tournament

J0rdan S., Sunday, 3 April 2011 17:46 (fourteen years ago)

One nba player from a mediocre team is not a lol situation. If half a team thinks it is nba material, but they only played well enough to be seeded as the tenth best team in the country, then wtf. Either the players are delusional, or they're lazy as fuck, or they were coached by a moron, or some combination of the three.

Aimless, Sunday, 3 April 2011 18:57 (fourteen years ago)

i don't know -- that's a pretty flat reading

J0rdan S., Sunday, 3 April 2011 18:58 (fourteen years ago)

How do you explain it?

Aimless, Sunday, 3 April 2011 19:00 (fourteen years ago)

i mean, for one, any nba team drafting a 19 year old is drafting the player on potential, so whether or not the team was seeded fourth or not is kind of irrelevant

secondly, when you have a team that is mainly freshmen, there is gonna be some growing pains i.e. they lose games they shouldn't and thus their seed suffers

thirdly, saying concretely that kentucky was a "4 seed" implicitly assumes that the selection committee was correct in all of their decisions, which is never true & actually this particular committee was v bad -- kentucky was prob underseeded by a line

fourthly, they made the freakin final four -- it's not like they got upset by morehead state

J0rdan S., Sunday, 3 April 2011 19:03 (fourteen years ago)

Welcome to the Calipari era of wildcat bball.

Aimless, Sunday, 3 April 2011 19:06 (fourteen years ago)

well idk -- a lot of teams would be happy with a coach bringing a team to the elite 8 and a final four in his first two years (assuming they don't get wiped off the books of course)

J0rdan S., Sunday, 3 April 2011 19:09 (fourteen years ago)

In Calipari's case, an unwarranted assumption.

maybe ive seen parts of it before? idk i never understood it, if you watch enough sportscenter you see all the highlights & it doesnt really improve them to put them in slomo w/ a michael mcdonald song

johnny crunch, Tuesday, 5 April 2011 03:59 (fourteen years ago)

Haven't read the ^^ ilh liveblog of the game.

Watched about 70% of it, with the sound off. I think UConn got more rebounds than points in this game. Pretty wtf low shooting % all around.

I give UConn credit for good defense. Most of Butler's shots were rushed, with poor setup and poor form as a result, and that's why they missed a lot of them. But cripes, Butler was even missing their free throws, and you can't say UConn did that.

Quality of this championship game is reminder how young these guys are. Also an obvious byproduct of the nba snatching every promising underclassman for the past decade.

Aimless, Tuesday, 5 April 2011 04:04 (fourteen years ago)

Anyway, one of the best tournaments of my lifetime ends not with a bang but with a whimper. What a crappy game.

I ask again, how much money does Jim Calhoun earn this year because of Kemba Walker? Is his contract public?

john. a resident of chicago., Tuesday, 5 April 2011 19:04 (fourteen years ago)

wtf guy

in a USA Today online report Tuesday, Northern Arizona coach Mike Adras told the newspaper he gave his No. 1 vote to the Buckeyes.

Adras said he also put Kansas No. 2 before voting for UConn third on his ballot.

"I voted for who I thought was the best team in the country based on the entire body of work during the season," Adras told USA Today. "I believe it is Ohio State. I want to congratulate Connecticut for winning the NCAA tournament. They deserved it."

So much for that Calhoun's bonus:

UConn to lose two scholarships
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=6571897

A low rating is costly to Calhoun personally. His contract calls for him to donate $100,000 to a UConn scholarship fund if the program doesn't meet the APR. He also will forfeit his postseason bonus of $87,500, earned during UConn's run to the national title.

J0rdan S., Thursday, 18 August 2011 19:10 (fourteen years ago)

I feel like I'm more excited about supporting a Hoyas team built for completely insane Chinese riots than about the previous three years of "We should be good, and we will be good for a while, and then we will completely implode by the end of the season." I feel like if we crap out in February 2012 we will at least do it by like, making a huge ruckus at Pitt or something.

C-L, Thursday, 18 August 2011 19:17 (fourteen years ago)

kinda looks like the hoyas got jumped -- the dude in the khaki shorts was out there in a flash

http://eye-on-college-basketball.blogs.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/26283066/31398073

mookieproof, Thursday, 18 August 2011 20:05 (fourteen years ago)

From reading about the game, though, it sounded like the actual insanity was preceded by a game full of rough play; Georgetown had 28 fouls to 11 for the Chinese dudes at halftime.

Also from the WaPo article Earlier in the game, Rocket forward Xu Zhonghao had approached Thompson while he was yelling instruction to his players and then began berating him. Thompson stared at Xu in disbelief before officials halted play for several minutes in the third quarter.

Really really want to see these dudes come play at Verizon Ctr, that'd be the most fun thing since the Duke&Obama game in 2010.

J0rdan S., Thursday, 18 August 2011 20:21 (fourteen years ago)

Although this makes it sound like the foul discrepancy was not actually because the Hoyas were fighting dirty (so much as the refs fighting dirty): http://hoyatalk2.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=general&thread=24494&page=1#448237
