i think some of you would have fun with this thing:

http://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/pgl_finder.cgi

for example, who had the most rebounds in a game where he did not score a single point (nb all data since the 86-87 season)?

obvs it's rodman with 28 in 1993, when he was with the spurs playing the hornets.

on 6 other occasions he had at least 20 rebounds without scoring a point! marcus camby and reggie evans are the only other guys who did it once!

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 2 February 2011 23:46 (fourteen years ago)

in 1994, popeye jones (playing for dallas against the lakers) recorded 12 offensive rebounds in 17 minutes. he did not have a defensive rebound.

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 2 February 2011 23:50 (fourteen years ago)

in 1990, delaney rudd (playing for utah against phoenix) managed to go 0-4 with no rebounds, assists, blocks, or steals in 9 minutes. but he did have time to record 6 turnovers and 5 fouls!

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 2 February 2011 23:54 (fourteen years ago)

joel anthony has that stat line taped up in his locker

I was sort of curious about players who score without doing much else on offense. If you make it most regular season games with points >= 20 and 2 or fewer rebounds and 2 or fewer assists, the list is dominated largely by Kiki Vanderweghe and Jeff Malone, although one of Reggie Miller's seasons is #2. If you make it 30 points w/ 4 or fewer rebs and 4 or fewer assists, Jordan 97-98 and Iverson 00-01 show up pretty high on the list (doing 30 points with 2 or fewer gives you too few instances to seem meaningful).

bite this display name (k3vin k.), Monday, 13 June 2011 21:59 (fourteen years ago)

to be clear -- at least 5 steals, zero points or assists

okay boring answers to those ones -- alonzo mourning and stoudamire for the first, our good friend mark jackson for the second.

okay this one is interesting probably and certainly more guessable:

three months pass...

ok here's a tough one

(1) only one player since 1946 has averaged 19 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists, and 2 steals in a season

(2) to broaden this a bit, three players since 1946 have averaged 18 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists, and 2 steals in a season. the player who's the answer to question 1 has done this 3 times

diln (k3vin k.), Friday, 10 February 2012 05:48 (thirteen years ago)

think mj did the second part once

circles, Friday, 10 February 2012 05:56 (thirteen years ago)

yep, and he's not the answer to the first one

diln (k3vin k.), Friday, 10 February 2012 05:58 (thirteen years ago)

maybe fat lever? i think he put up stats sort of like this

circles, Friday, 10 February 2012 05:58 (thirteen years ago)

yuuuup, he's the answer to #1. and did #2 3 times. great guess dude, you know your shit. did you watch that dude play irl/back in the day? was he a good defensive player? feel like he should be in the hall of fame

diln (k3vin k.), Friday, 10 February 2012 06:00 (thirteen years ago)

the third player to do #2 should be relatively obvious

pearsonic, Sunday, 26 February 2012 01:02 (thirteen years ago)

last guy is alvan adams, gotta give this guy up

pearsonic, Sunday, 26 February 2012 01:03 (thirteen years ago)

one month passes...

so Kobe is scoring 28.1 ppg while shooting .424 from the field right now. 5 players have scored 28ppg+ while shooting less than 42% on the year. Amusingly, nobody has ever done it twice.

Clay, Tuesday, 3 April 2012 21:36 (thirteen years ago)

lol, did jerry stackhouse do it once?

circles, Tuesday, 3 April 2012 21:38 (thirteen years ago)

Yes!

Clay, Tuesday, 3 April 2012 21:39 (thirteen years ago)

2000-2001, Playing for the pistons, stack house threw up the improbable 29.8ppg on *.402* from the floor.

Clay, Tuesday, 3 April 2012 21:40 (thirteen years ago)

yeah, it stuck in my mind

circles, Tuesday, 3 April 2012 21:42 (thirteen years ago)

jesus christ, that is almost an accomplishment

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 3 April 2012 21:43 (thirteen years ago)

Stackhouse also notably the first to do it in over 50 years. In 1948-49 george mikan put up 28.3 on .416. (I'll give you that one, nobody was going to guess it.)

Clay, Tuesday, 3 April 2012 21:44 (thirteen years ago)

guys, iverson has *five* seasons where he

(a) put up between 27.6 and 31.4
(b) shot between 0.398 and 0.424

incl 01-02: 0.398 -- 31.4 -- 27.8 shots per game

pearsonic, Tuesday, 3 April 2012 22:01 (thirteen years ago)

that's not fair tho - 01-02 is coming off the trip to the finals, AI has the most license to jack at that point

dayo, Tuesday, 3 April 2012 23:11 (thirteen years ago)

Gilbert and McGrady were the other two. Interesting/coincidental that all 5 guys were 24-26 years old and also averaged 5+ assists.

Clay, Tuesday, 3 April 2012 23:16 (thirteen years ago)

feel like they are all residuals of the mj era

dayo, Tuesday, 3 April 2012 23:22 (thirteen years ago)

when was the last time the scoring title was given to someone who scored 30+ ppg? I feel in the early 00s, every year you had a player scoring 30+ ppg.

dayo, Tuesday, 3 April 2012 23:23 (thirteen years ago)

well I guess only one year

dayo, Tuesday, 3 April 2012 23:25 (thirteen years ago)

holy shit I somehow skipped over the fact that kobe averaged 35.4 in 05-06?

dayo, Tuesday, 3 April 2012 23:25 (thirteen years ago)

In 07 he went for 50+ 5 times in a month from mid march to mid april.

Clay, Tuesday, 3 April 2012 23:31 (thirteen years ago)

i def coulda guessed iverson and gil

recent thug (k3vin k.), Wednesday, 4 April 2012 00:27 (thirteen years ago)

love that kobe averaged under 27 ppg when he won his chips post-shaq

dayo, Wednesday, 4 April 2012 01:55 (thirteen years ago)

Matt Armstrong, Saturday, 1 December 2012 03:14 (thirteen years ago)

since 1980 7 guys have averaged 20-7-6 for a season (you'd think it'd be more!). most are easy to guess but i think 2 (def 1) will be tough. go!

k3vin k., Thursday, 13 December 2012 05:56 (thirteen years ago)

Jordan, magic, bird, lebron, drexler?

Clay, Thursday, 13 December 2012 05:56 (thirteen years ago)

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 13 December 2012 05:59 (thirteen years ago)

Clay, Thursday, 13 December 2012 05:59 (thirteen years ago)

k3vin k., Thursday, 13 December 2012 06:09 (thirteen years ago)

k3vin k., Thursday, 13 December 2012 06:16 (thirteen years ago)

Fuck me, it's Steve Francis, isn't it? He had some stupid good years in Houston.

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 13 December 2012 06:19 (thirteen years ago)

yeah he was grabbing 6 or 7 rebounds a night for his whole career, somehow i totally forgot about that. nice!

k3vin k., Thursday, 13 December 2012 06:21 (thirteen years ago)

nice one Kev.

The 20>x, 7 and 6 list is pretty interesting.

Clay, Thursday, 13 December 2012 06:24 (thirteen years ago)

Franchise was all that for a while. But when he lost a step it was one big damn step.

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 13 December 2012 06:25 (thirteen years ago)

it's funny to see lebron's entire career on that list haha

k3vin k., Thursday, 13 December 2012 06:26 (thirteen years ago)

The guys who did this while scoring less than 20 = magic, fat lever, Darrell walker (ill admit I do not remember this person), bird, pippen, detlef schrempf, and Jason Kidd about a zillion times.

Clay, Thursday, 13 December 2012 06:28 (thirteen years ago)

With the clues k gave I totally was thinkin Stevie Franchise

lag∞n, Thursday, 13 December 2012 06:29 (thirteen years ago)

Fat Lever...I was following NBA during his career yet have zero memory of him. You think the name alone would garner the attention of a young granny d.

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 13 December 2012 06:36 (thirteen years ago)

k3vin k., Thursday, 13 December 2012 06:43 (thirteen years ago)

lol when you filter for 20ppg his average is listed as 21 but then when you filter for 21ppg he is... gone

lag∞n, Thursday, 13 December 2012 06:44 (thirteen years ago)

pip is the only guy added to the list when you go down to 20, but there are a bunch more seasons by the other guys

lag∞n, Thursday, 13 December 2012 06:44 (thirteen years ago)

hm first guess for granny's q has to be rodman, i know he rebounded like mad right out the gate, not sure if he got less than 25 mpg the first few years of his career. did he get little enough PT that san antonio season to qualify him? *looks up*

k3vin k., Thursday, 13 December 2012 06:45 (thirteen years ago)

danny fortson

lag∞n, Thursday, 13 December 2012 06:45 (thirteen years ago)

lol when you filter for 20ppg his average is listed as 21 but then when you filter for 21ppg he is... gone

― lag∞n, Thursday, December 13, 2012 1:44 AM (1 minute ago)

ha yeah it rounds to the first decimal but only includes players who actually cross the threshold. source of much confusion sometimes

k3vin k., Thursday, 13 December 2012 06:46 (thirteen years ago)

eh sorta close on rodman, 9.x rebs on 26.x mins for a couple seasons there early

k3vin k., Thursday, 13 December 2012 06:49 (thirteen years ago)

Clay, Monday, 8 April 2013 05:36 (twelve years ago)

circles, Monday, 8 April 2013 05:43 (twelve years ago)

pierce is at 19.9 points

k3vin k., Monday, 8 April 2013 13:09 (twelve years ago)
