Why for is it?

forksclovetofu, Friday, 4 May 2007 05:40 (eighteen years ago)

because new york bars are too concerned with watching fucking baseball and i don't get to see any games :(

seriously last night i was in a bar and asked them to put on basketball bc they were showing WRESTLING and SOCCER and still no luck. there is no appreciation for hoops in this city ;_;

tehresa, Friday, 4 May 2007 12:14 (eighteen years ago)

Knicks lol.

Leee, Friday, 4 May 2007 16:23 (eighteen years ago)

well, yeah, that certainly explains it!

though my sis is in michigan and she said everyone there is already all about tigers baseball and they actually have a good basketball team to watch and get excited about!? WHERE IS THE LOVE?!

tehresa, Friday, 4 May 2007 22:38 (eighteen years ago)

As a resident of Portland, Oregon, home of the playoff-destitute Trailblazers, my interest in the playoffs is somewhat more theoretical than impassioned.

It also doesn't help that I am a simple man with simple pleasures, and I do not recieve either TNT or ESPN on my simple-man's 20-year old television set. I can (and do) read about the games in the Oregonian newspaper, but this tends to make them rather more abstract than immediate. I don't, for instance, pump my fist much while reading the sports section.

Aimless, Saturday, 5 May 2007 00:16 (eighteen years ago)

What is really a WTFer is that meanwhile over on ILE the "Study shows bias in Refs calls" or whatever thread that was got like 300 responses.

Granny Dainger, Monday, 7 May 2007 23:44 (eighteen years ago)

hmmmph. well, let me just say, i am really starting to reconsider my decision not to have cable because how the hell did pistons win by 21 tonight!? wish i'd seen that!

think i may have to stop in every bar i see thursday until i find one that will let me watch game 3.

utah up by 10 halfway through the 1st, however, not very surprising...

tehresa, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 03:00 (eighteen years ago)

tehresa, I'm going to have to have words with you... WITH MY FISTS.

Leee, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 17:56 (eighteen years ago)

lol @ Warier fans :D

David R., Tuesday, 8 May 2007 18:26 (eighteen years ago)

I thought the Bulls were going to give the Pistons all they could handle. This is turning out not to be the case.

brownie, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 21:07 (eighteen years ago)

looks like they won't shed the "baby bulls" tag just yet, eh?

Granny Dainger, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 23:35 (eighteen years ago)

Golden State is officially over; that was one o' those HEARTBREAKING LOSSES

forksclovetofu, Thursday, 10 May 2007 04:38 (eighteen years ago)

can we rename this board JESUS CHRIST FUCK THE JAZZ, FUCKKK WHY COULDNT THE ROCKETS HAVE WON GAME 7 GOLDEN STATE IS FUCKED

cankles, Thursday, 10 May 2007 04:46 (eighteen years ago)

omg that last bit of 4th quarter was crazy!

i totally skipped friends' band playing to watch 2nd half of 4th quarter + ot bc i was so excited to be at a bar that had basketball on not one but two tvs!

tehresa, Thursday, 10 May 2007 04:59 (eighteen years ago)

you picked a great game to stick around and watch! that was unbelievable. Golden State had that game won, damn

Stormy Davis, Thursday, 10 May 2007 05:17 (eighteen years ago)

i know!!! i was really rooting for them! i don't know why, because i don't see them winning the championship or even the finals, but the way they pulled through at the end of that 4th, man!!!!

tehresa, Thursday, 10 May 2007 05:25 (eighteen years ago)

tehresa, you're rooting for them because the Dubs are jazz. (But not the Jazz, grr grr.) I don't feel the series is over, esp. since we're all coming back to Oakland, and if the Warriors can stop forcing up so many set 3s and start attacking the rim and then kicking out, they can still pull it out. As it stands, I'm calling this in 6 games.

Leee, Thursday, 10 May 2007 16:37 (eighteen years ago)

yeah, but the GS offense is basically just baron davis doing all the scoring while everyone else jacks threes. the rockets would've been a much better matchup for them :((((

cankles, Thursday, 10 May 2007 21:09 (eighteen years ago)

woah so i checked score and it was halftime and chicago was uppppp and then i went to a bar and detroit came BACK! yeahhhh! last night's game + tonight's game clearly mean i should go to the bar to watch games more often.

tehresa, Friday, 11 May 2007 03:47 (eighteen years ago)

Bulls castrated, now sing in a higher pitch.

woah did not go to bar for game tonight but currently 70-49 @ halftime. damn.

Phoenix blew this game (how many missed free throws and layups, jeez) but that had to be one of the worst (and most unfairly) refed games I've seen since whatever the last game I complained about was.

Alex in SF, Sunday, 13 May 2007 02:59 (eighteen years ago)

so any bets on which game a fight will break out in? ginobili's poked eye was pretty gross.

seemed like nash lost his mojo for a while there. i luv dat guy. does he still turn his back to the flag during the national anthem LOL

David R., Monday, 14 May 2007 13:08 (eighteen years ago)

[url=[Removed Illegal Link]
It's a loose bunch. After Mickael Pietrus missed two free throws that probably would have won Game 2, he refused to shoot free throws the next day at practice.

"If I practice free throws today, I will think about it tomorrow,' he explained. 'I'm going to go home, play with my puppy, take him to Golden Gate Park and make him happy."

Leee, Monday, 14 May 2007 19:58 (eighteen years ago)

So who's getting suspended for Game 5?

Alex in SF, Tuesday, 15 May 2007 04:58 (eighteen years ago)

I think the Spurs would take a Horry / Amare trade-off, w/ Diaw as a nice chaser. I hope that happens, & the Suns beat the living shit out of the Spurs.

David R., Tuesday, 15 May 2007 05:00 (eighteen years ago)

I used to love Robert Horry when he played for the Lakers and the Rockets, but jeez are the Spurs jerks.

Alex in SF, Tuesday, 15 May 2007 05:00 (eighteen years ago)

And then I hope Ginobli gets punched in the balls repeatedly by a bunch of kids.

David R., Tuesday, 15 May 2007 05:03 (eighteen years ago)

I'd like Bowen to be torn apart by wild dogs.

Alex in SF, Tuesday, 15 May 2007 05:06 (eighteen years ago)

The spurs basically disgust me.

Clay, Tuesday, 15 May 2007 05:06 (eighteen years ago)

Sew Tony Parker's asshole closed and just keep feedin' him and feedin' him and feedin' him.

Clay, Tuesday, 15 May 2007 05:07 (eighteen years ago)

So are you serious about Amare and Diaw being suspended? Did they both actually leave the bench?

Alex in SF, Tuesday, 15 May 2007 05:09 (eighteen years ago)

And God forgive me I know Tim Duncan is a great all-time player superbro, but if I see that hangdog DROOPY SAD look on his face one more fucking time, I'll sick a horny Mark Cuban up his sad ass.

Also, that other European fuck w/ the stubble & floppy hair & hustle to make up for his lack of actual skill - fuck that shit, son. There is only one Eduardo Najera-type in the league, & it sure ain't you.

David R., Tuesday, 15 May 2007 05:11 (eighteen years ago)

According to the replays I saw on the TNT postgame show, Alex, Amare was well off the bench, & Diaw was far enough from the bench to possibly qualify as a rule breaker as well. Supposedly, the coaching staff is claiming Amare was just reporting to check back in, but that ain't gonna fly unless league officials spend too much time with Sir Charles.

David R., Tuesday, 15 May 2007 05:13 (eighteen years ago)

David otm and in line with girlfriend quote: "The Spurs are the team that look most like puppies."

Diaw and Amare should be hit with fines and that rule should be changed into something more malleable... say, stepping onto the court "with malevolent intent" or some such. That way you can avoid fucking over whole series because Bobbert "Big Shot, Big Asshole" Horry got his widdle feelings hurt.

forksclovetofu, Tuesday, 15 May 2007 05:16 (eighteen years ago)

tofu OTM re: stuff - hit dudes that step off the bench w/ fines, hit dudes that involve themselves w/ the fracas w/ suspensions. And Robert Horry should be slapped in the head w/ a 2x4 that has a nail sticking out of it.

David R., Tuesday, 15 May 2007 05:25 (eighteen years ago)

In conclusion, I would like someone to do to most of the Spurs what that psycho girl does to everyone in High Tension. Barry & Finley can get off scott free, but EVERYONE ELSE DIES OR GETS THEIR NUTS CRACKED.

man i saw this but i really wish i had been drinking less and paying attention more!

still, i don't at all like the spurs so i ain't really complaining!

tehresa, Tuesday, 15 May 2007 06:37 (eighteen years ago)

I like Steve Kerr, despite being a former Spur and a big booster of theirs, is like actually not crazy and able to sensible and evenhanded in his assessment of the game last night:

Alex in SF, Tuesday, 15 May 2007 23:13 (eighteen years ago)

Cavs/Nets game three was hands down one of the worst playoff games I have ever seen. My God the East is horrible.

Mr. Snrub, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 00:05 (eighteen years ago)

Mr. Snrub, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 00:07 (eighteen years ago)

tehresa, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 02:21 (eighteen years ago)

Some ESPN Radio meatflap said there was an 8-minute montage of Bruce Bowen being a defensive dick, but there isn't! SHENANIGANS!

Also: this Jazz / Warrior series is pretty keen, but fuck half of the haircuts these guys are sporting (ESPECIALLY FAUXHAWKS).

David R., Wednesday, 16 May 2007 04:32 (eighteen years ago)

Also: that horseshit bench rule is horseshit. And it blows. It blows horseshit.

Clay, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 21:07 (eighteen years ago)

Guys, I am so pissed.

Clay, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 21:07 (eighteen years ago)

LeBron's great. Too bad he's a major tool. Really hope he never wins a title, but the lil fucker probably will.
Bulls go from posting a near-record low team FG % in the first 3 games, to near-record high in the 5th (until 4th qtr garbage time lowered it to a measly 57% for the game). Nice to see the Detroit faithful streaming out with more than 6 minutes left to play. Tehresa, sorry your guys are sometimes too cocky for their own good. (I have NO idea who's gonna win the series now though).
The automatic suspension rule is lame, but hopefully this case will prompt them to write some wiggle room into it.

Granny Dainger, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 23:24 (eighteen years ago)

I feel like the only way the Spurs can win this series without being total heels is if they lose tonight and then win game 6 & 7.

That Amare and Diaw shouldn't have been suspended or that Robert Horry was being a dick aside, I'm finally glad the Spurs can stop pulling this pillars of the community shit. Shit gets ollld around here.

m bison, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 23:32 (eighteen years ago)

i am really starting to feel like detroit has that whole buffalo bills curse or something. not counting anyone out yet, but last year was rly frustrating and it takes me back to childhood superbowl trauma!

if this ends up a nets-chicago eastern final i really just don't know what to think.

tehresa, Thursday, 17 May 2007 12:16 (eighteen years ago)

I think David Stern needs to freeze-dry the Celtics' lottery envelope ASAP!

The ONLY bad thing about last night's game is the amount of minutes most of the Suns had to play due to Robert Horry being a bitch. That they were in control for most of the game speaks volumes about heart & gumption & tenacity & that intangible shit most folks get hard and/or wet for, & also shows how awesome Mike D / Steve Nash / SHAWN MARION are. They can totally take the Spurs in San Antonio (tho it won't be fair to the Spurs w/out Big Shot Bob OH NO), and if it gets back to Phoenix, it's going to be a drubbing.

David R., Thursday, 17 May 2007 13:08 (eighteen years ago)

man, the Cavs/Nets series just keeps geting uglier and uglier. How do Cavs shot basketball.

Nets score 6 points in the 4th Quarter the Cavs still get a drubbing.

brownie, Thursday, 17 May 2007 14:57 (eighteen years ago)

How do Cavs shot basketball:

1) Get the ball
2) Give LeBron the ball (if LeBron doesn't have the ball)
3) Watch LeBron score 1-on-4 OR run back on defense

David R., Thursday, 17 May 2007 15:54 (eighteen years ago)

forksclovetofu, Monday, 21 May 2007 04:35 (eighteen years ago)

So now we have our choice of Spurs or Jazz out of the western conference. This is a choice? And Detroit is just fugly and the Cavs are essentially four guys and LeBron. What's a fan to do? I just can't work up enthusiasm for any of this at this stage.

Aimless, Monday, 21 May 2007 17:01 (eighteen years ago)

MIKE BROWN MUST GO

brownie, Friday, 25 May 2007 16:50 (eighteen years ago)

i'd be happy with a spurs-pistons finals as long as it means the spurs are defeated in a most humiliating fashion. idk what you guys would get stoked about, besides golden state there's nobody in the west worth rooting for, and besides detroit there's nobody in the east worth rooting for!!!!!!!!!!!!

cankles, Friday, 25 May 2007 17:32 (eighteen years ago)

All the exclamation points in the world won't make that statement right. But yeah, eff the Spurs.

Dimension 5ive, Friday, 25 May 2007 18:20 (eighteen years ago)

well who were you hoping to see go all the way, dogg? especially in the east - i'd rather watch detroit than pretty much any other team in the conference.

cankles, Friday, 25 May 2007 18:27 (eighteen years ago)

I didn't realize you were talking about the playoffs only. My team didnt make the playoffs in the West, but they were fun to root for all year, and they improved a lot. Not to mention WINNING THE DRAFT LOTTERY. As for the Bucks, well, they had bad luck all year, plus their plan was pretty bad to begin with.

I am rooting for Detroit as well.

Dimension 5ive, Friday, 25 May 2007 19:20 (eighteen years ago)

Then Detroit in six.

forksclovetofu, Sunday, 27 May 2007 17:46 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah. I was around back when Maravich played for LSU, so I know why the Jazz are named the Jazz. But it still doesn't make any sense and never will. Rather like the LA Lakers, who moved there from Minnesota. People are so used to it they forget what an idiotic name it is for LA.

Heck, I was around back when Kareem was named Lew Alcindor and was a superstar on the UCLA all-freshman team... because frosh couldn't play on the varsity teams back then.

Aimless, Thursday, 31 May 2007 01:48 (eighteen years ago)

brownie, Friday, 1 June 2007 13:07 (eighteen years ago)

Lebron was so great I had chills

speechless at that GODlike performance

Stormy Davis, Friday, 1 June 2007 13:18 (eighteen years ago)

That was amazing. Instant classic. Lebron finally realizing he is unstoppable. A few days ago, someone on the ESPN radio was wondering aloud if maybe this would be James' version of Jordan's series against the Cavs, a moment you can look back on after a player's been canonized and point to and say "there. that's the beginning of the Legend."

Granny Dainger, Friday, 1 June 2007 21:47 (eighteen years ago)

all of bron bron's 29 of 30 on this nice clip:

Stormy Davis, Saturday, 2 June 2007 04:06 (eighteen years ago)

Man, it sad to watch Tayshaun run away from Bron at 00:30 of that clip. yikes. look at that fear, i've never seen that from Prince. crazy.

on the other hand, my guy is playing amazing D at 01:30 of the clip ... and James just hits a fantastic shot. (Chauncey gets right in his face on the very next clip ... and James once again just goes inhuman)

Stormy Davis, Saturday, 2 June 2007 04:09 (eighteen years ago)

no prince always looks frightened, even when he delivers!

tehresa, Saturday, 2 June 2007 09:25 (eighteen years ago)

Well, I'm good and surprised by this turn of events. From 0-2 to four in a row and a CLEVELAND finals? So weird.
But can they win more than one against San Antonio? I think i have to keep hating.

forksclovetofu, Sunday, 3 June 2007 05:16 (eighteen years ago)

What the hell, the Pistons looked horrible last night.

Cavs swept the season series against the Spurs so I'm confident they can win at least one game.

brownie, Sunday, 3 June 2007 15:30 (eighteen years ago)

i was just about to say... they managed to win 2 during the regular season, though most people will completely ignore this because the cavs always take a drubbing in the court of public opinion.

anyway.

if i were a pistons fan, i would be irate. wallace showed his true colors, the trademark billups smirk didn't make up for uneven play, and saunders seemed to have abandoned the ship. hamilton and weber were in there fighting, and i ended up feeling quite bad for them by the end.

lauren, Sunday, 3 June 2007 15:41 (eighteen years ago)

i only got to see bits and pieces as i was bar hopping and watching a show, but i did see the end and was very upset, but i was already upset with them as soon as they let cleveland win their first game. that just should not be happening and i really hope someday (ideally next season?) they will get it together and stop losing so stupidly in the playoffs every year.

tehresa, Sunday, 3 June 2007 15:57 (eighteen years ago)

huge mistake to think that this was going to be a rout/sweep. pistons won the first two by the skin of their teeth, and they didn't quite seem to realize that.

lauren, Sunday, 3 June 2007 16:14 (eighteen years ago)

Coming off four in a row will give the Cavs a tremendous push into the Finals. On the strength of this alone I think they will pick up two wins and could conceivably win the title, depending on the psychological ebb and flow of the series. The Spurs are a tough nut to crack, but when you have a player playing like Superman, you have a pretty good hammer to crack nuts with.

Aimless, Sunday, 3 June 2007 16:18 (eighteen years ago)

i can't see the cav's winning a single game. spur's fans, get out the brooms. blech

6335, Monday, 4 June 2007 04:09 (eighteen years ago)

The Cav kiss of death: Dickie V picked the Cavs in 7.

David R., Monday, 4 June 2007 14:00 (eighteen years ago)

6335, the Jazz took one from the Spurs, so don't be too quick to yell sweep just yet.

Aimless, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 00:15 (eighteen years ago)

imo the pistons are one of those teams, like the Rockets, that could go pretty far if they had a real coach~

cankles, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 00:39 (eighteen years ago)

Rockets just got a real coach: Rick Adelman.

Aimless, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 00:41 (eighteen years ago)

Cavs getting humiliated

Mr. Snrub, Friday, 8 June 2007 03:13 (eighteen years ago)

As expected, of course.

Mr. Snrub, Friday, 8 June 2007 03:13 (eighteen years ago)

:-\

so torn! i hate spurs! i hate cavs! who to hate more!??

tehresa, Friday, 8 June 2007 03:17 (eighteen years ago)

That was almost like NOT watching a basketball game.
Not with a bang, but a whimper.

forksclovetofu, Friday, 8 June 2007 04:56 (eighteen years ago)

Can the Cavs sign Tie Domi or Mike Tyson or Chuck Lidell to a 10-day contract so Bowen & Ginobli exit this series shitting through a twisty straw?

David R., Friday, 8 June 2007 15:30 (eighteen years ago)

David I've been researching your question and the answer appears to be "no".

brownie, Friday, 8 June 2007 17:46 (eighteen years ago)

Anyway, the Cavs have been denied a sweep but they'll still win in 5.

brownie, Friday, 8 June 2007 17:47 (eighteen years ago)

more time for gibson, please.

lauren, Friday, 8 June 2007 18:52 (eighteen years ago)

if last nites game doesnt answer the question posed in this thread title then nothing will

DEATH TO TIM DUNCAN * DEATH TO DAVID STERN

jhøshea, Friday, 8 June 2007 18:57 (eighteen years ago)

Whatever the question, Gibson is the answer. Also, put Snow on Parker.

brownie, Friday, 8 June 2007 19:16 (eighteen years ago)

no there is no answer to that - also snow is so so awful

jhøshea, Friday, 8 June 2007 19:19 (eighteen years ago)

Who's this Gibson? I only know of BOOBIE.

Leee, Friday, 8 June 2007 19:44 (eighteen years ago)

you know too well, young leee

brownie, Friday, 8 June 2007 19:50 (eighteen years ago)

"Young"?

brownie, Friday, 8 June 2007 20:19 (eighteen years ago)

This Finals will at the very least give Lebron a good excuse for quoting from Shakespeare's Anthony and Cleopatra. For example: "I have immortal longings in me" or perhaps, "I am dying, Egypt! Dying!"

Aimless, Monday, 11 June 2007 17:31 (eighteen years ago)

Cavs have got to win one for christ's sake. I think Snow did a good job on Parker last night when he was in but apparently Hughes is playing no matter what.

brownie, Monday, 11 June 2007 19:33 (eighteen years ago)

I thought the Cavs were going to get swept; guess I just had the wrong series.
