Eh I disagree. Aldridge is entering his prime several years ahead of batum, lillard, and whomever else they might get in exchange for him (picks, young talent, a bad contract probably? Though olshey is said to be dead-set on deandre jordan), and the blazers' ceiling with the current core over the next couple of years (before LA begins to decline) is, what, 5th in the west? That might even be reaching. If you're going to trade him, trade him off a non-competing team when he's 27, rather than a competing team when he's 31. Get the value now and help out someone you're not going to be competing with for a couple years.

Plus he's making noise about wanting out and has possibly requested a trade so, you know.

so, here's what i think. sorry k3v but the c's were only pretenders last year, they were ~10 points away from the finals a year ago, but the wheels were starting to come off fast and it was only going to get worse much, much quicker. with doc gone and kg&pp as old as they are, there was no way to stop the slide basically- no tinkering around the margins was going to get them back up in contention with indiana, miami and probably chicago- so from ainge's perspective it's time to fully dismantle it and get whatever pieces he can to initiate the rebuild.

but with the nets picks, the doc pick and their own picks (and whatever happens with rondo), i don't think ainge is going to be picking 9 rookies or something. he'll package picks to move up in a draft or to get a player to accelerate the rebuild. this was the ultimate trade for assets. even gerald wallace has some bounceback upside imo.

i don't think it's an ideal scenario for them (that was probably a clippers deal that involved deandre, bledsoe and a first) but it's not 35 cents on the dollar like simmons was saying

if you want a SF, i'd rather pay chase budinger 1/3 of what josh smith is gonna get paid

ya i dont think paying josh smith max/near max is really gonna do the pistons much good, it could work for some other team but they need to continue to build more deliberately

singing a maxish free agent is really only worth it if they are super elite or if it puts you in contention imho

villanueva & stuckey are already making $16m this year and are awful. so if you flip them for rudy you're not taking on any extra money in year 1 before he immediately turns into the most valuable expiring in the nba. you're also getting a decent player at a need spot who could maybe sneak you into the playoffs. or if not you could potentially flip him at the deadline if he has a halfway good year.

what i think is hilarious is all the lockouts that have ever existed were ostensibly to stem the wave of bad deals and this summer we have nothing but overinflated deals that are slightly shorter than they used to be
