Several sources have told The Dispatch today that Ohio State senior quarterback Braxton Miller will miss the 2014 season because of the injury he suffered to his right shoulder in practice on yesterday afternoon, the same shoulder that was surgically repaired six months ago.

Ohio State has yet to confirm the prognosis, though a spokesman said that a news release on the situation will be coming this afternoon.

Look at that thing. That's not a haircut; that's the 1984 CMA Awards. You see hair like that and you wonder if there's a Fiero parked nearby. If that hair could talk, it would say: "Get back in the house, Lurleen. I'm handling this."

2013?

Ha oops. I'm apparently so high on cough syrup I blew it on the year. Mod to fix title plz?

This year, BYU starts the season without leading rusher Jamaal Williams (1,233 yards) and receiver Devon Blackmon, who were suspended for violating team rules. It has been reported that they violated the school's honor code — Williams was arrested for suspicion of underage drinking, and Blackmon's alleged offense was wearing an earring.

johnny crunch, Thursday, 28 August 2014 12:13 (ten years ago)

Williams' "drinking" was probably caffeinated soda.

Everyone's a closet ned. (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 28 August 2014 17:42 (ten years ago)

South Carolina got straight up pantsed tonight. Oof.

Kenny football

johnny crunch, Friday, 29 August 2014 02:06 (ten years ago)

I heard a guy on the radio yesterday going home picking South Carolina to go to the final 4. Guess not.

Prince Kajuku (Bill Magill), Friday, 29 August 2014 13:59 (ten years ago)

I still think it would be relatively easy for them to win the East and go to the SEC championship unless Florida or Georgia are a total surprise.

Everyone's a closet ned. (Johnny Fever), Friday, 29 August 2014 15:44 (ten years ago)

That's fine but under the new system the politburo they've selected better remember the ass kicking they took last nite. Even if they win the east , they are headed for chik fil a or outback.

Prince Kajuku (Bill Magill), Saturday, 30 August 2014 04:23 (ten years ago)

And when they lose to bama or auburn or a and m in the championship game it could even be more dire. Let's reconnect after the dawgs play Clemson, should clarify things.

Prince Kajuku (Bill Magill), Saturday, 30 August 2014 04:26 (ten years ago)

Jesus. Strike chik fil a from that post. Apparently it's a semifinal this year. Fucking confusing.

Prince Kajuku (Bill Magill), Saturday, 30 August 2014 04:33 (ten years ago)

looking very forward to this year.

I was going to echo a similar sentiment about Melvin Gordon until LSU made him disappear in the second half.

Everyone's a closet ned. (Johnny Fever), Sunday, 31 August 2014 05:28 (ten years ago)

I would say the Wisconsin coaching staff helped in disappearing Gordon

Not on the national radar screen but I went to the Georgia state New Mexico State game today and it ruled. NMS came back from 17 point deficit and won with a touchdown with 15'seconds left.

Jameis Winston now suspended for the entire Clemson game instead of just the first half. I'm sure the dude's suspension is well-deserved for some other shit he did somewhere, but standing on a table and yelling out a tired internet meme at a college is common as fuck.

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 20 September 2014 03:55 (ten years ago)

LSU got flat whooped, though.

surprised that this Ducks game is this close,

Bee OK, Sunday, 21 September 2014 05:01 (ten years ago)

Pac-12 is getting pretty comparable to SEC in terms of overall strength, but the style of football has more variety so its hard to compare.

Aimless, Sunday, 21 September 2014 16:55 (ten years ago)

It's weird to think that my favorite day of college ball in years includes a Bama loss, but yesterday was amazing in just about every way.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 5 October 2014 14:50 (ten years ago)

yes there were so many good finishes. Sorry about bama. I was watching with my friend from Huntsville, and I kinda hate ole miss

GhostTunes on my Pono (Sufjan Grafton), Sunday, 5 October 2014 14:59 (ten years ago)

While growing up I lived for decades with mediocre-to-awful teams. I considered any Pac-8 season record above .500 to be a triumph. Consequently, I reflexively root for the underdog, with few exceptions and I feel happiest when the traditional powerhouse programs, like Alabama, USC or Oklahoma, get the rug pulled out from under them.

Aimless, Sunday, 5 October 2014 19:03 (ten years ago)

Mentally add Ohio State to that list of most-hated teams, plz.

ATHENS ----- University of Georgia tailback Todd Gurley has been indefinitely suspended from competition by the UGA Athletic Association during an ongoing investigation into an alleged violation of NCAA rules.

"I'm obviously very disappointed," said UGA head football coach Mark Richt. "The important thing for our team is to turn all our attention toward preparation for Missouri."

The point shaving allegations was the thing that made me chuckle. Thing is that the newspaper and web media, especially in a local and regional sense kind of blows things up. Is it real, who knows, but the word is out there. Southern college football was always a bit nuts, but I think the bigger money and attention is cranking up the crazy volume.

Rooting for LSU against 'Bama tonight, but realize that LSU would need to play over their heads a bit and 'Bama make some uncharacteristic turnovers for this to happen. I love that Auburn lost already.

Now Mississippi State needs to drop one, too. If there were any justice, they'd be penalized in the polls for playing such a patsy today.

The line in Las Vegas for the TCU/Kansas game was 28 points -- the was largest of day in FBS. ESPN's Football Power Index gave Kansas a 4.6% chance to win. This would be the most "unlikely" win by an FBS team since Middle Tennessee State beat Georgia Tech in 2012.

There were plenty of games this year that warranted a mid-season firing, but the one yesterday really wasn't one of them. Gators played well, just got outplayed in overtime. But now or last week or next week, didn't really matter. Muschamp was getting canned. (I was secretly hoping the Gators would knock of FSU in a couple weeks, but who knows what happens now.)

Daniel, Esq 2, Sunday, 16 November 2014 17:57 (ten years ago)

Why, oh, why must the only remaining unbeaten major conference team be FSU (other than the fact that they play in a relatively weak major conference)? The only saving grace is that they won't survive the new playoff format. That takes a bit of the sting out of it.

so can Purdue but I will always remember Tony Driver picking off Drew Brees twice near the end of a game a decade or so ago, and so even though Brees has had a great NFL career I always think of him in that moment, because I was there that day & one of the picks was right in front of the student section, haha it was so great

Yes, be thankful that you missed it. Kelly really mismanaged the game. I guess the low upside-to-downside ratio applies to every Big 10 team and Navy. Sorry to hear that you suffered through the Bob Davie era. I was in the student section for the 41-16 blowout by Purdue in South Bend. Dark days.

it wasn't a "bullshit penalty". The end of that otherwise excellent game just left some people disappointed because 1) It's a penalty that's not always called 2) the coverage was blown anyway and 3) the refs missed an FSU player's helmet removal penalty on the same play.

Yeah, I mean it's technically a legit penalty, but the number of times it's actually called vs. the number of times it actually happens is miniscule. And in this situation, it reversed the final score. Also, fuck FSU.

In addition, McElwain has agreed to pay $2 million to Colorado State over time, sources told McMurphy.

The $5 million being paid from Florida to Colorado State marks the largest school-to-school buyout ever.

Pat Riley, head coach of Oregon State, jumps ship to Nebraska. I did not see that coming at all! I suspect that a bunch of shithead alumni for asking far more than it would be possible to deliver are to blame here.

Riley did great things in Corvallis, considering he was recruiting players to Corvallis, OR, to an obscure cow college in a tiny, boring town in a damp depressing climate. He consistently did better than WSU, a similar cow college with similar problems in Pullman, WA.

oh no! must be the season of the rich (Aimless), Friday, 5 December 2014 04:04 (ten years ago)

Riley was under contract with Oregon State, which finished 5-7 this season, through 2021. His contract stipulated that he would gain one additional year every time he went to a bowl game.

Riley is 93-80 as a college coach.

I GUARANTEE a considered reason Ohio State got picked over Baylor and TCU is that they got one of the largest traveling fan bases in college football. They can sell thousands of tickets and fill bunches of hotel rooms wherever the game is played. There is not that many university's that have more living alumni than Ohio State, the place is huge and has been for 50 years.

Looking it up quick, OSU has TWICE the amount of current students than Baylor or TCU combined.

Ohio State- 56867
Baylor- 15616
TCU- 10333

Tell me you don't think that is a reason if all teams are 'equal'.

Research Notes
According to ESPN's win probability model, Oklahoma State had a 0.9% chance to win before Tyreek Hill's 92-yard punt return touchdown to tie the game with 45 second remaining. It was the fifth-lowest in-game win probability for a winning team this season.

After losing five straight games by 26.6 PPG, ESPN's Football Power Index projected that Oklahoma State had a 8.2% chance of winning, making it the most unlikely win by a Power 5 team this season.

According to Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook, Oklahoma State closed as a 19.5-point underdog today against Oklahoma.... It's the Cowboys' largest spread overcome in an outright win since 2005 when Oklahoma State upset Texas Tech as a 23-point underdog in Stillwater.

Since the start of Week 8, Oklahoma State is 0-5 and has been outscored by an average of 26.6 points, second-worst in the FBS behind Georgia State (26.7). [+]

NCAA was smart they would get rid of that extra sally game all teams have added go back to a 11 game schedule and make this tournament 8 teams. I think the TV revenue for the 4 first round games would be worth a crap ton of cash. It could end up the biggest sporting event in the US if done right.

earlnash, Tuesday, 9 December 2014 04:12 (ten years ago)

NCAA was smarter they would get the thing to a 16 team tournament and have the first round games be played on top seeds as a home game. I think the TV revenue for those 12 first and second rounds would be worth a few metric tons of cash. It would be the biggest sporting event in the US if done right. A month long football bacchanalia...

earlnash, Tuesday, 9 December 2014 04:14 (ten years ago)

If the ncaa went to a 16 team single-elimination playoff they'd def have to shorten the regular season by a couple of games or else increase the players' paychecks.

Watching the Eagles play quite a few times, you still see that same offense pretty much on this Oregon club. Mariotta seems to be a QB that tries to minimize mistakes, which could hold well for him moving as a running QB to the NFL. It's the dumb turnovers that kill all of those running QBs when you get down to it, that and they get clobbered and hurt a bunch.

It was pretty impressive.

I don't think this year's Alabama is one of Saban's better clubs. They could still win it all, but they don't seem as physically overwhelming as some of his other clubs. I can't get with Ohio State as their fans always suck, an obvious group. I'd like to see the Big 10 get back to being great, but not of those bozos are at the top of the hill. As an Indiana fan with little hope of ever having any real NCAA football success, I always leaned a bit more to liking Michigan or Michigan St. on the big stage. Michigan fans are a lot more fun, but I thought that old "Muck Fishigan" billboard OSU fans put up in Colombus back in the 90s was hilarious.
