fascinating vignette from in amongst the various waffling on the news that greg hardy is officially a gigantic asshole now that he shoved a coach (because that's the most fucked up thing he has done recently right):

In the last week of the season, on a Friday, according to a player who witnessed the entire incident, [Jeremiah] Ratliff showed up to practice and was behaving belligerently toward players and coaches. The coaching regime, then led by Marc Trestman, would not allow him to practice.

Ratliff went ballistic, this player said, and was asked to leave practice. He departed but later returned. Practice was stopped and most players went off to the side while a small group of players and coaches tried to calm Ratliff down and get him to leave.

It didn't work initially. Ratliff destroyed the game clock on the practice field, smashing it and kicking it. Later, he shoved an assistant coach to the ground. While all of this went on, Trestman never intervened. He just stood off to the side and watched.

And this is the most incredible part. The uber-enabling part. Not only was Ratliff never punished by Trestman...he was named one of the captains the next day. The entire locker room was incredulous.

Trestman justified making Ratliff a captain by saying he brought intensity, but no player bought that. That move, the player said, led to Trestman officially losing the locker room. Trestman was fired soon after.

NE not looking flamboyantly dominant on offense like most of 2007 but lowest scoring game so far had 4 TDs so even tho it looks kinda rough at times they are really scoring. defense seems to be improving through the season. outside a brady injury, maybe gronk, if the wheels come off it'll most likely be that depleted o-line. they finished the game with 5 standing so the realms of a TE at tackle or a guy starting off the street are certainly possible. would be lame for this season to end with brady getting beaten senseless every week behind some ragtag scrubs.

offense feels kinda unstoppable when dion lewis is in there -- he seems like the perfect patriots back. when it's legarrette running into the line and falling ahead for 4 yards it starts to feel a bit bogged down.

i'll be interested in seeing who can challenge the pats thru the air. still feel like there's not a lot of talent in the secondary and even the LBs i think can be tested. if 2015 regular season andy dalton can play like this in the playoffs i feel like aj green & eifert and those guys could really put some pressure on them.

yeah its weird they just keep scoring constantly w/o seeming quite dominant, like it felt like the dolphins p much held them in check in the first half but they still had 17 offensive points, theyve scored in every quarter this season except the first, they had a game where they scored on every drive

imo the lack of dominance is due to the offensive line sinking drives on a fairly regular basis. with lafell back and amendola having a really strong stretch of play this is as good a group of skill players as they've had since whenever gronk and hernandez were both healthy and available.

jordan makes a good point but it's funny, for a passing league i can think of exactly three passing attacks that give me any level of concern.

regardless of this season luck is and has been great with nothing going on with the rest of the team at all. the prospects of that team getting to the level where they might win something is so remote right now.

the comparison to favre has been made before but he might be more favre than favre. 45 TD / 23 INT seasons are in this guy's future.

I've been saying all week this was the game that was going to make Denver's offense look competent, veteran QBs just shred Green Bay. I have no idea how they were #1 in points allowed.

and on the flipside some really poor offensive football by the packers

they are getting shredded on the ground as well. and very little pressure on manning. looks like a different defense out there than the rest of the season. otoh, denver offense looks significantly better. not sure if it is one or the other, prob both. on the other side, gb offense still a little off but the broncos defense continuing to be p sick.

they're more than a little off, they have nothing quick they can reliably go to that will take some of the pressure away.

yeah I wouldn't see a game vs GB as evidence that their offense is back on track (see: Philip Rivers) but man Denver looks pretty scary if the O becomes about league average

that said - something seems off with Rodgers, maybe the whole year. was surprised to find they were only 22nd in passing offense coming into the game. maybe losing Jordy really is that big of a deal

well not just Rodgers (though he is missing open throws), his receivers (mostly Adams) just don't seem to be where he wants them

when they started this game they were trying to do all this slow-developing downfield shit, it's the wrong type of offense for both the team they have and the team they're playing.

i feel like wrt Luck + Rodgers + Peyton sometimes etc the truth is that no QB (except Brady?) is good enough to be fantastic all the time. they all have down games + down seasons etc. which makes me feel like a lot of the hysteria over unproven qbs not playing well is maybe misplaced? like there's all these complaints about how hs/college does not prepare qbs for pro game but maybe there's just not enough patience?

like i can only imagine if luck or rodgers were qbs in philly (which would be so wonderful) that we'd be calling for their backups already which is pretty dumb and maybe we should give bradford a chance idk philly fans are the worst esp those that call into WIP.

theres def a history of previously mediocre qbs having mid career renaissances on their second or third teams but idk bradford is prob unsalvageable

you can tell a lot in how a qb plays regardless of results. qbs can do all the right things and still have a poor game. rodgers last night is a good example, 77 yard game, but as cad was saying upthread the game planning for the offense was a disaster. you did get to see some of the real value in rodgers' play esp. moving around and extending plays, he just literally had no one to throw to.

for bradford the issue is the short throws. i don't know enough about his play to know why it happens, if he is just reluctant to throw long, can;t complete long, or goes to the dump off too quick and won't let plays devlop. most failing qbs you can see some clear tendencies that hold them back.

another example ryan fitz is sort of the opposite of bradford, he will push downfield and try to make any throw, however ill advised. that's why his career flip flops between him looking amazing and looking hot garbage vs bradford who is consistently lukewarm.

peyton is the best qb of 2000s in terms of pure stand there, find the best guy, hit the mark dead. he hasn't become bad at picking the right throw, he isn't physically executing those throws like he used to and he's running up a lot of ints as a result. one thing that helped him look better last night was he had guys getting really open.

his receivers were so open + he had space to step into throws

his arm strength is so gone that if he cant throw w his whole body he cant throw

week 12 is going to be a blast

just hope both teams remain undefeated, which seems probable given the match ups between then and now

i watched four titans games this year; they are a damaged and flawed team and have been since '09. i'm okay with dropping whisenhunt but the big question is their offensive line. they are getting young qbs killed and no one can run the ball .

the browns sacked Mariota 6 or 7 times when they played each other. the browns have 13 sacks on the year so yeah their o-line is just murder.
