I want him to be good at this very badly.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Friday, 11 August 2006 19:49 (nineteen years ago)

same here. PTI is the only show worth watching on ESPN anymore... even LeBatard grew on me as ne'er-do-well substitute.

he will be good at it, i have no doubts.

i would pay cash money to hear kornheiser + jamie foxx and NOBODY ELSE call all football games from now on

FUCK BABY SURI I HOPE IT CHOKES TO DEATH ON HUBBARD WAFERS (Adrian Langston), Monday, 11 September 2006 23:27 (nineteen years ago)

Kornheiser has been great so far tonight.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Monday, 11 September 2006 23:32 (nineteen years ago)

From Sports Guy Bill Simmmons,

"An e-mail from famed Hollywood producer Bob Ryan:

'Hey, Bill, I have a movie pitch for you, I want you to write it. Let's say there's this new football announcing team, and one of the guys has been allowed to contradict himself and make dumb proclamations for far too long, to the point that it's hard to take him seriously anymore, and then his network decided to team him up with someone who's conditioned from years and years of radio and TV work to challenge every dumb sports-related argument he hears. And these guys were forced to announce games together for the next 17 weeks. Is that something you might be interested in?'"

Jimmy Mod: THE HANDLESS ORGANIST (The Famous Jimmy Mod), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 01:30 (nineteen years ago)

DO YOU THINK SEAN TAYLOR HAS A REP

mookieproof (mookieproof), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 02:22 (nineteen years ago)

i am loving the hell out of the jaws/vermeil combo

FUCK BABY SURI I HOPE IT CHOKES TO DEATH ON HUBBARD WAFERS (Adrian Langston), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 02:54 (nineteen years ago)

me too ... outstanding.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 03:10 (nineteen years ago)

I've always liked Brad Nessler too.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 03:11 (nineteen years ago)

Awesome - tease us with the better team doing the 2nd game, then stick us with the dipshits for another 16 weeks. THANKS ESPN THE SPORTS ENTERTAINMENT NETWORK!

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 04:17 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, the second team was better than the first. Jaws and Vermeil make for an awesome pairing.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 04:23 (nineteen years ago)

Maybe it was just cuz my team was playing and I actually wanted to hear what was going on instead of, say, why Oliver Stone's vision of football was so groundbreaking but I kinda wanted Jaimie Foxx to get the fuck out of the booth.

Tom Cruise is a fuxxstixx.

Kornheiser I generally like, if only for his barely concealed (actually not concealed at all) contempt for Theisman who I hate almost as much as Chris Collinsworth.

M@tt He1geson: Real Name, No Gimmicks (Matt Helgeson), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 23:08 (nineteen years ago)

Kornheiser went out of his way to praise Theisman last night. It was if he was trying to say, "See, I don't hate the guy!" But Tony is going to make a Don Meredith out of Joe real quick, I think.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 23:17 (nineteen years ago)

awesome when s. taylor got the spearing/whatever penalty and kornheiser mused aloud, 'is that because of his rep?' theismann says OF COURSE NOT, and you can sense tony pondering his options before calling bullshit

mookieproof (mookieproof), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 00:44 (nineteen years ago)

"is it within the realm of possibility?" "it's within the realm of possibility"

Stormy Davis (diamond), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 01:59 (nineteen years ago)

Tirico was great on ESPN's second team the past couple of seasons, which is why he is now calling the game. Mike Patrick was not the problem in their former booth. He is solid in calling a game, but Theismann and that fat kicker sucked. I couldn't stand McGuire when he worked for NBC.

The best dudes doing games are always the ones working some odd KC vs. Detroit matchup (or the Bengals). Solomon Wilcots and Steve Tasker have done a bunch of Bengals games in the past couple of years and they are way better on bringing out parts of the game than most of the marquee guys working the big games. Troy Aikman is better than most, but I don't think he paid much attention to details in a punt return.

If ESPN had some vision, they would give Suzy Kolber a shot at calling games. She hosted an NFL show with Jaws and Merrill Hoge (to balence things out) and was always really good. If even for a one shot deal, it would be a big deal having a woman doing play by play on an NFL game and I think she would do a good job.

Earl Nash (earlnash), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 02:59 (nineteen years ago)

ALSO I WOULD LIKE TO KISS HER

mookieproof (mookieproof), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 03:03 (nineteen years ago)

I agree about Kolber, Wilcots and Tasker!

polyphonic (polyphonic), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 04:54 (nineteen years ago)

wilcots is great. another guy i always liked was curt menafee who was doing in-studio work on fox this weekend. i hope he was just filling in for joe buck or something.

worst ever- beasley reece. when the pats were perpetually leading the league in putrid during the late 80s/early 90s everyweek the pats were on was a beasley reece game. it was torture.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 12:37 (nineteen years ago)

Beasley! He was the sports dude on one of the local CT newscasts! He was cooooool! And kinda bushleague as an announcer-dude.

MARV ALBERT on the radio for Sunday night games is godlike.

Suzy Kolber looks like she went on a Nicole Kidmanesque Botox binge. Also, her neck is ridiculously wrinkly.

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 13:18 (nineteen years ago)

my favorite radio voice ever is gil santos. i always muted the tv and listened to gil & gino cappelletti when they moved from the am dial to 50,000 watt superstation WBCN on the FM dial. so clear, plus with all the parabolic mikes at field level the sound of the game was AMAZING.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 13:26 (nineteen years ago)

fixed:

"is it within the realm of possibility?" [weird silence] "it's within the realm of possibility"

FUCK BABY SURI I HOPE IT CHOKES TO DEATH ON HUBBARD WAFERS (Adrian Langston), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 16:03 (nineteen years ago)

my fav thing about jawsdick was how completely apeshit they went whenever someone kicked a good punt. also, one thing i liked abt the preceeding game was that all the "ohhhhh shit son, check this!" slow-mo replays were of hutch laying down VICIOUS MOTHAFUCKIN BLOCKS. i'm starting to feel borderline pity for theismann, he's such a... simple soul. i think kornheiser was walking on eggshells because he didn't wanna pick on the dude excessively and come off all gore/bush debate.

FUCK BABY SURI I HOPE IT CHOKES TO DEATH ON HUBBARD WAFERS (Adrian Langston), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 16:10 (nineteen years ago)

I predict a punchup in da booth between Tony and Jeoy Sunshine before the season's end.

Most announcers leave me indifferent. Theisman is the only one I've ever actively hated.

Ice Cream Electric (Ice Cream Electric), Saturday, 16 September 2006 13:39 (nineteen years ago)

early fourth quarter, jax trying to down a punt inside the five, steeler returner blocks him away from it--as they go to commercial, you can hear kornheiser blurt "that's legal?"

mookieproof (mookieproof), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 02:09 (nineteen years ago)

mortensen spoke in athens tonight - had nothing but great things to say about berman and tom jackson, said steve young is lazy, irvin's a great guy and a born-again now, and made it very clear theismann is an idiot and an asshole.

j blount (papa la bas), Wednesday, 20 September 2006 02:03 (nineteen years ago)

i didn't even realize how much i liked berman & jackson until nfl primetime was taken away *wipes away a lone, manful tear*

harbl (Adrian Langston), Wednesday, 20 September 2006 02:19 (nineteen years ago)

jackson is awesome, berman needs to be dialed way back

mookieproof (mookieproof), Wednesday, 20 September 2006 02:31 (nineteen years ago)

steve young needs to learn how to read! kornheiser's been good about not slamming theismann. during the jags/steelers game, theismann said "that [roethlisberger] may or may not finish the game."

dead silence.

I haven't paid much attention lately re: TK's fear of flying. Is he taking the bus or fortifying himself with scotch and taking the plane?

Danny Aioli (Rock Hardy), Thursday, 21 September 2006 15:47 (nineteen years ago)

bus, which means he's always on pti via satellite.

blackmail (blackmail.is.my.life), Thursday, 21 September 2006 23:07 (nineteen years ago)

?

1st down: theismann: 'ben roethlisberger is all the way back'
3rd down: theismann: 'he just looks uncomfortable out there'
kornheiser: 'TWO PLAYS AGO YOU SAID HE WAS ALL THE WAY BACK?!?!?'

prompting my friend to email me asking 'does kornheiser hate theismann?' and me to respond 'probably. don't you?'

mookieproof (mookieproof), Friday, 22 September 2006 03:45 (nineteen years ago)

Theismann is like possibly the stupidest man who ever lived, I mean he makes Joe Montana's commentator stint look like Edward R. Murrow.

Allyzay is a town of people, people who DIED (allyzay), Friday, 22 September 2006 13:37 (nineteen years ago)

-shanahan's face is literally purple, wtf

-d00dz ralphing on the line of scrimmage

The Bearnaise-Stain Bears (Rock Hardy), Monday, 25 September 2006 02:18 (nineteen years ago)

Can I just say that the best thing so far about this young NFL season is the Coors Light commercials with Dick Vermeil and Bill Walsh?

Brilliant. Not just good: brilliant.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Monday, 25 September 2006 02:31 (nineteen years ago)

ok why did the pats roll over and die at the end of the game? one minute left, field goal range, they don't try for 3 and then the onside?

they should've had greg kinnear recreate one of his press conferences. btw while i'm thinking about it, biggest reason INVINCIBLE sukked: no vermeil crying scene ;_;

harbl (Adrian Langston), Monday, 25 September 2006 03:06 (nineteen years ago)

Anyone who bans a Denver fan, especially if they are NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS FANS doing the banning, will be instantly de-modded and then banned themselves, FYI!!!!!!!!! I've tolerated the Brady love thus far but banning Plummer fans is a step too far!

ok why did the pats roll over and die at the end of the game? one minute left, field goal range, they don't try for 3 and then the onside?

i may have mentioned my theory elsewhere but given the trouble the pats were having moving the ball coupled with the fact that they have a strong legged kicker and the field was torn to hell close to the endzone i think they figured they weren't getting close again and needed the 7 immediately. if they got the ball back and still couldn't move the ball at least they have said strong-legged yet block-prone kicker to try to boot the baby 50+ yards.

what was it theismann said about ppl needing to keep their legs under their bodies?

mookieproof (mookieproof), Tuesday, 26 September 2006 17:20 (nineteen years ago)

Fuck a neutered aughties Spike Lee, I was more taken by the one close up of the fan they did who was very clearly screaming at the camera "I LOST MY HOME"

Theismann repeatedly said that with the turf the way it was, players needed to make sure they were running with their bodies over their legs.
Seconds after my girlfriend said WTF, Kornheiser followed her almost word for word.

I was very impressed by Allen's defensive TD, but Irma's clutch FG block blew my mind.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 26 September 2006 18:11 (nineteen years ago)

Oh! that reminds me of a classic Theismannism from last night: talking about the new turf, and how it was sort of bouncy and not packed down yet, he said: "it's like a muddy field under normal conditions". a muddy field. under normal conditions.

bela fregosi (brownie), Friday, 27 March 2009 17:40 (sixteen years ago)

i dont think schefter was murdered--pretty sure he killed himself when he hear blender folded

@SI_RossTucker Evidently a fear of flying is a prerequisite for tv stardom like Madden/Kornheiser. I hereby renounce the convenience of airplanes

WOW, I'm so happy to hear about this.

The very first thing that crossed my mind when I saw this on the news was that Ally was going to be quite pleased.

I don't want to be a TK stan here, but I'm not convinced Chucky's going to be an improvement. Tirico/Jaws 2-man booth would be so great.

I agree that Tirico/Jaws would be the best, but if there has to be a third guy, Gruden is about as good of a choice as I can think of. Charismatic oddball coach with a ring.

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Monday, 18 May 2009 19:13 (sixteen years ago)

I wonder if anybody on the NFL scheduling committee said "lol let's really fukk with Kornheiser this year."

resistance is feudal (WmC), Monday, 18 May 2009 19:37 (sixteen years ago)

I think I'm oddly going to miss Korny's love notes to Tom Brady every week (even when the Pats aren't playing), so I hope Gruden picks up the ball.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 19 May 2009 12:38 (sixteen years ago)

I hope Gruden starts every game with a long diatribe about how gay Jeff Garcia is.
"Jon, he's not even playing in this game -"
"I DON'T CARE"
"I don't even think he's in the league anymore."
"GAYLORD"
"He married a playmate, you know"
"SO GAY, SO VERY GAY"

im drunk so no forks (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 19 May 2009 13:41 (sixteen years ago)

ok, that's a better idea.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 19 May 2009 14:24 (sixteen years ago)

I hope either Tirico or Jaws calls him Chucky every once in awhile.

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Tuesday, 19 May 2009 15:55 (sixteen years ago)

I don't really care if there's a Monday night Bucs game this year, but I hope against hope for a Raiders game. Gruden will have three hours to fill, and there's no way he won't say something about Al Davis.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 19 May 2009 16:39 (sixteen years ago)

That's my dream trainwreck announcing crew, Al Davis, Shannie, and Chucky.
