Josh Allen got ok to wear his college number #41 at DE in the pros. A few are already picking him as a potential rookie of the year candidate.

lmao Tramon

Full Tramon Williams quote on Mitch Trubisky:

"We wanted to make Mitch play quarterback. We knew they had a lot of weapons, we knew they were dangerous, we knew all of those things. But we knew if we could make Mitch play quarterback, that we’d have a chance."

frogbs, Friday, 6 September 2019 14:31 (five years ago)

I'm guessing the ball hat is MT branding himself, not exactly the best game for the ole' personal brand. That said, I don't think he played horrible, all he would have had to do was hit on that big one that was called back on the knick knack offensive pass interference. That was a heck of a throw and most of the game, he took what he could. The interception was the killer throw, but he's still seems to have some f'it chuckit in him.

I didn't know that Howard had left the Bears, still haven't looked yet to see who he signed with as a free agent.

earlnash, Friday, 6 September 2019 21:02 (five years ago)

Ah nice deal for Howard getting to go to the Eagles, that seems like it could be a pretty good place for his talents.

earlnash, Friday, 6 September 2019 21:03 (five years ago)

both Rodgers & Trubisky were scrambling a lot, the difference was Rodgers is always looking downfield while Mitch seems to panic and defaults to just rushing. he made a lot of bad throws. Rodgers did too but that was mostly in the 1st q. hard to really know much until we see a few more games - the Packers defense has been really easy to put up big passing numbers against the last 5-6 years and I'm kinda doubtful they solved all that in one offseason

That is some weird wild stuff there. It looks good, pretty slick production.

We have said it before on the board, the NFL is totally turning into pro wrestling. It always kinda was but now it's pronounced.

mookieproof, Sunday, 8 September 2019 02:48 (five years ago)

TO pretty much did the same thing. Favre took a detour season to get to Minnesota.

This seems to happen in the NBA from time to time.

It is a good wrestling manager heel move to make, especially if it takes off. Brown could definitely make up for the loss of Gronk. By what I was reading, some people think the Pats might be using more running game.

earlnash, Sunday, 8 September 2019 16:05 (five years ago)

Antonio Brown sought advice from professional social media consultants for ideas on how to accelerate his release from the Oakland Raiders, sources tell ESPN.

At least one consultant couldn't tell whether Brown was serious or not, according to sources. Brown's tumultuous tenure with the Raiders officially ended Saturday, when the Pro Bowl receiver was released by Oakland and signed with the New England Patriots.

Denver now decides to go for 1, MISSES the XP, but a Bears OL flinched right before the snap

frogbs, Sunday, 15 September 2019 23:36 (five years ago)

frogbs, Sunday, 15 September 2019 23:50 (five years ago)

I mean "inertia" and all, it's frustrating but the NFL is going to continue to call it that way to keep the facade of them giving a shit about player's health.

except for when players re-enter games with concussions despite wobbling around cross-eyed

When I am afraid, I put my toast in you (Neanderthal), Sunday, 15 September 2019 23:52 (five years ago)

which is not to say I don't think roughing should be a thing, but if the dude leaves his feet before the ball gets thrown, he ain't gonna realistically be able to stop, it's physics yo.

tbf the Saints routinely getting blatantly screwed over by refs is pretty funny

almost wonder if they're gonna make roughing reviewable next year if they feel the changes to PI were a positive thing. its one of the more frustrating reffing things since it gets called in situations where the defender really had no way to stop themselves & its just another thing for the defense to have on their mind all the time. like 7-8 years ago you used to see a lot of drives extended by 15 yard "roughing the kicker" penalties that are basically the same, punter gets it off with 0.1 sec to spare, rusher dives for it and misses, winds up clipping the punter's knee, then boom drive extended. I feel like teams only half-try to block punts now because of that.

frogbs, Monday, 16 September 2019 13:44 (five years ago)

I got to wonder how long until one talking head starts takes a shot about Baker Mayfield's on field body language. That stuff is totally moronic, but it is red meat for the sportsline/radio crowd and Mayfield both at times looked a bit lost playing last night. They definitely need to figure some stuff out, they were muffing hand offs and the O-line was jumping around left and right.

I'd like to see the Colts play. They have been in tight games each week. They seem like a club that could hang around with anyone, but if they fall behind, got to see it to believe that Brissett can pull that off.

It would be pretty cool if Jacoby Brissett takes that next step and becomes a good starter. It would be hilarious for him to be the guy to lead them into NE and beat them and win a Superbowl. Long long way from that going down, but it seems like for 3 weeks - so far, so good.

leave it to the NFL to make an even bigger mess of this. it's understandable to sometimes miss this sort of thing in real time, but when you implement a review system specifically to get these sorts of calls right, then spend 3 minutes reviewing a play and get it wrong anyway, what's the point? why even have this system?

the guy cueing the music for the stadium had to have been trolling in the second half. i heard 'crazy train' at one point (which they play at gillette when the team runs onto the field) and i thought, that's weird, like i've been to a half dozen washington games and that's not their usual type of music. then josh gordon gets a first down and they played the theme from Flash Gordon & we're all looking around like ??? & toward the end "your love" by the outfield which.. they play every 4th quarter in foxboro

i thought this was going to be sad but it was too much fun. eli has reached enlightenment but he isn't going to tell anyone

https://www.si.com/nfl/2019/10/10/eli-manning-future-after-benching-according-to-friends-family

At Ole Miss, Manning’s karaoke machine had been his most prized possession. Nights out often ended back at his apartment, with the quarterback in jean shorts and a tank top screeching out Elton John, Def Leppard and Johnny Cash to a packed room.

When people tell him to start a Twitter account, he truly doesn’t understand why anyone would care what he has to say.

Years ago, on a flight home from London with friends, a loud explosion shortly before takeoff caused panic and forced everyone to deplane. In the terminal afterward, friends realized they didn’t know where Eli was, so they notified a flight attendant. Manning was soon found, fast asleep in his seat.

Eli didn’t speak until he was three, not because he couldn’t but because he didn’t want to.

It all reminds one friend of something Manning told him back in high school, that his ideal career was to be a 15-year NFL backup.

At one point, of course, Jack Handey is mentioned, and Manning’s eyes light up. He lifts himself off the couch and dashes to his study. When he returns he’s holding two books of Deep Thoughts, and as friends gather around he flips through the pages, reading his favorite quotes aloud.

I don't think Lamar Jackson is as fast as Michael Vick but he is really, really fast. Jackson is pretty good in the short passing game, he's got some touch. I'd say he's already better than Vick was at that part. Vick had a howitzer of an arm, no comparison there.

I dunno if it's like this for a lot of teams but it really does seem like the Packers have played a lot of games that are directly decided by bad reffing decisions - the Fail Mary, the "Dez caught it" game, the phantom face mask vs. Detroit that led to that insane last minute Hail Mary, all those 'roughing' calls on Clay Matthews last year, the Week 4 Eagles game where they missed two blatant crucial PI calls, now this

NFL players are also vested after three seasons. They earn $470 a month for each year they played. So according to The Street, Brett Favre, who played 20 years, will get about $112,000 a year once he turns 55. The NFL's optional 401(k) plan matches player contributions at 200%. Players that participate in four or more seasons can also get a $65,000 annuity bonus.

Of course, you probably will die young unless you play QB...

https://www.businessinsider.com/nfl-nhl-nba-mlb-retirement-pension-plans-lockout-2011-1

The NBA and MLB plans are crazy good though, not as many total players and much more games though.

if I was a 49ers fan I'd be worried about Jimmy G in the playoffs, that final 4th quarter drive and all of OT he looked awful. funny how the announcers were saying "this is what everyone's been waiting for, a chance to see Jimmy Garroppolo in a pressure situation"...and he immediately hurls the ball right into a defender's arms, who miraculously dropped it. then proceeds to do that three more times, when he wasn't tossing the ball 20 feet over everyone's head

steve harvey oswald (brownie), Friday, 15 November 2019 18:34 (five years ago)

yeah sounds about right. finally beating your longtime rival but getting one of your best players needlessly suspended for the year seems like a very Browns thing to do.

season long suspension was a given, I wonder if it'll go beyond that. I was always curious if a player could possibly be criminally charged for something they did on the field, I'm guessing the answer is not, but this is as close to "dude probably should be arrested for that" as I've ever seen. outside of Burfict I guess

frogbs, Friday, 15 November 2019 19:23 (five years ago)

Head coach was trying to be the defensive coordinator

Heez, Monday, 18 November 2019 01:34 (five years ago)

Ryan got hurt for a couple of games and Julio Jones I think just came back a couple weeks ago too from injury.

So many clubs come out of the gate so poor, you really cannot tell how good they might be for a while.

B-more took apart Houston. They were not in the game. As long as Jackson keeps healthy and not turning over the ball, they are going to be really tough to beat. He makes it look so easy on these seemingly busted plays. The ball control angle of their offense makes their defense even better. Ravens are looking as good as ever on that side of the ball. Atlanta was good on D a couple of years with Vick, but they were never top of the league and Baltimore is definitely in the top tier. Being best team in the NFL in November is often not the same one in January...

lag∞n, Friday, 22 November 2019 05:19 (five years ago)

That was a really close game, one that it really did come down to just a couple plays either way being the difference. I hope the best for Brissett but the Colts could not get very many passes down field at all. Joseph made a heck of a play on the one throw to Hilton that was on the money.

Texans have gotten run over on the ground, as Indy could pretty much run the ball most of the night coming after the Ravens left tire tracks on them the week before.

earlnash, Friday, 22 November 2019 06:21 (five years ago)

legit have no clue how good either of those teams are. Texans are a lot of fun but yet again their ceiling seems to be a first-round elimination. Colts are just all over the map - they could be 8-3 if Vinatieri makes the kicks he usually does, but at the same time they have a ridiculously soft schedule. I'm glad the dropoff from Luck to Brisett hasn't been so steep...not convinced he's gonna stick around long but he's pretty decent

Niners v Ravens gonna be good

de-mamba mentality (Spottie), Tuesday, 26 November 2019 03:38 (five years ago)

I really cannot compare how much the 'boys get the press compared to their now two decades of mediocrity.

Is there another team in pro sports that inspires such press compared to success on the field?

I suppose the English national football club could be considered one. Yanks have not won the big one in a while, but they have been better than Dallas in the regular season. Knicks obviously get a lot of press being in NYC and mostly for being absolutely terrible year after year. There are some people more than you probably would think that IU basketball is something of note, but not many don't have gray hair or if they do, they have been indoctrinated into the cult. (Probably could say the same about Nebraska football...moving to the Big 10 was so stupid for them.)

Niners v. Ravens is good possibility of Superbowl preview.

Ball control is going to be the big buzzword coming up, as people are starting to figure out it is a way to beat the big QB teams. I like it, running the ball is football. I am so sick of the spread and short passing game.

earlnash, Tuesday, 26 November 2019 03:43 (five years ago)

Got to laugh at Gruden and the Raiders for puffing out their feathers after their win a couple weeks ago and declaring themselves victor of the big trade with the Bears turning around and getting destroyed by the JETS this week.

earlnash, Tuesday, 26 November 2019 03:45 (five years ago)

The team that could be king if things were different is Indy. Not hard to see that club if Luck was healthy would be really tough. Brissett has been limiting his mistakes, but man he could not get the ball down field at ALL in the last game. The ground and pound game is good, but a bit more passing and they would be hard to stop.

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/28227397/49ers-suspend-radio-analyst-tim-ryan-lamar-jackson-comments

BRADENTON, Fla. -- The San Francisco 49ers suspended radio analyst Tim Ryan on Wednesday after he said on a Bay Area radio station that Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson's dark skin helps him disguise a dark football when running fake handoffs in Baltimore's zone-read heavy offense.

Ryan will not broadcast Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints while serving the suspension. The Niners released a statement on the matter Wednesday evening from Florida, where they are practicing at IMG Academy in preparation to play at the Saints after losing 20-17 to the Ravens last week.

"He's really good at that fake, Lamar Jackson, but when you consider his dark skin color with a dark football with a dark uniform, you could not see that thing," Ryan said on air. "I mean you literally could not see when he was in and out of the mesh point."

Is Jackson top scorer in fantasy leagues? I'd have to think with the number of TDs, it would be pretty good.

earlnash, Friday, 13 December 2019 17:20 (five years ago)

He must be — he’s also throwing a ton of TDS and not putting up huge passing yardage numbers, he’s first in TDs by a wide margin and 17th and passing yards.

Also he’s got a realistic shot at leading the league in rushing. He’s 5th, only 178 yds behind Nick Chubb for the lead.

omar little, Friday, 13 December 2019 17:24 (five years ago)

the only way he's not #1 is if it's McCaffrey, who has 2k yards combined. but yeah without looking it up it pretty much has to be Lamar, I can't imagine there's another QB that's even close although I think Dak has a pretty crazy # of yards

Patriots not only have never won a Super Bowl when they didn't have a bye, but have only even played in one in that same scenario - 1985.

fourth down: barely not a touchdown
first down: could've run it in, spiked it instead
second down: couldn't run it in, took a penalty instead
third down: pass interference not called or even reviewed
fourth down: barely not a touchdown

btw lmao at that obvious no-call on PI at the end there, the rule was changed this year to prevent THIS EXACT THING from happening and instead it happens in another huge game and screws over the Saints again lol

If we're bitching about calls, that call on the late hit for the niners was pretty bogus. Should have at least been offset by the helmet shove into the turf.

NFL released a statement that that wasn’t a pi anyway. Seattle should have scored on their 8 tries

seemed like a pretty egregious PI to me, and Seattle's other myriad failures don't matter in that decision anyway.

xxp yeah Collinsworth was pretty livid about that one and rightfully so. I hate when teams wind up getting punished because someone made an unexpectedly great play.

but yeah Seattle had so many chances there, I think Barnwell pointed out that they basically could have scored on any of the last 5 or so final plays had Russell made the right decisions. hell if Hollister was holding the ball in his other hand it probably would've been a TD. still hell of a play by Greenlaw in the end to stuff him like that, feel like that winds up being a TD like 90% of the time

Taking that delay of game on the 1 was indeed inexcusable especially since it denied us a potential Beast Mode game winning TD that would’ve have provided proof that god is real and loves us
