Thanks. I couldn't think of a title lol

if this site were a food it would have NO nutritional value!!!!!!! (Neanderthal), Tuesday, 13 August 2024 17:27 (eight months ago)

The preseason is so boring.

Mr. Snrub, Sunday, 25 August 2024 01:36 (eight months ago)

I did get a ILNFL chuckle out of the fact that book that just came out on Rodgers was called "Out of the Darkness"...we may have a lurker.

earlnash, Sunday, 25 August 2024 01:41 (eight months ago)

well, I let my son draft my fantasy team this year. he was super excited about it. he's now running around the house yelling about how amazing his fantasy team is. it is in fact one of the worst fucking fantasy teams I've ever seen. turns out he only knows players from the highlights videos he watches on YouTube. fuck me

frogbs, Friday, 30 August 2024 03:07 (eight months ago)

this is awesome and i want a thread dedicated to it and him

mookieproof, Friday, 30 August 2024 03:38 (eight months ago)

i wanted to supervise him but my wife was out so i had to put my daughter to bed. knew shit was gonna be bad when he came into the room to tell me he took Justin Tucker in the 3rd. I was like wtf I told you not to do that! and he says "hes the best kicker ever Dad! did you know he made a 66 yard field goal! the longest in NFL history!! did you?! I had to take him someone else was gonna get him!!"

frogbs, Friday, 30 August 2024 03:48 (eight months ago)

game recognizing game

mookieproof, Friday, 30 August 2024 03:56 (eight months ago)

my first fantasy football experience was literally 40 years ago, when i spent three seasons finishing a distant second to my little league baseball coach, better known as steelers tattoo guy. dude was insane -- we drafted individual defensive players (andre tippett!) and he knew *everything*

i just bought street & smiths. nabbed jerry rice early. had joe morris and his 20 TD for the NYFG in 1986.

no offense but it sucks deeply if your kid can't translate his excitement into something rewarding that's not essentially gambling. and if he starts rooting against the packers because he's got some TE playing against them, that is the worst

mookieproof, Friday, 30 August 2024 04:16 (eight months ago)

the whole idea is just really appealing to him, I kinda knew once I explained the concept that it was something he could get obsessed with. just watching his eyes light up when I explained like "each player gets his own score, then you add them together and go against the other player", he was way into it. I knew I had to let him do it. he plays this baseball game on the Switch a lot which lets you draft a team and he spends more time doing that now than playing the actual game. its funny too since its one of those games where most of the players are fake but there are some real life HOFers in there. so when I'm doing it with him he's like "you look Robin Yount over Mighty Goat?? what is wrong with you!??"

the idea that he might have to root for one of his players against the Packers has not yet occurred to him, lol

mookieproof, Friday, 30 August 2024 04:38 (eight months ago)

frogbs, you need to get him into ttrpgs instead. Fantasy sports is the worst.

il lavoro mi rovina la giornata (PBKR), Friday, 30 August 2024 12:10 (eight months ago)

I never did much fantasy sports. I some how did not get in the one my circle of college ‘bros’ did until last season and they have had it going since 96. Last season was the first league turnover they had had since 99. Nerds.

I did play fantasy baseball for a couple years on ILB. It’s way more work.

My thing that I did a ton back in the 80s was playing Statis Pro football that was put out by Sports Illustrated. I had the baseball game for a couple seasons too. I still have two of the football games both of which still had the Street and Smiths NFL previews for like 86, 87 & 88. Those are real fun to look at.

We did actual gambling some when I was a teenager. Those old school football cards where you would have the spread for the weeks games in ncaa and nfl. You e we would like pay $2 Bucks and pick 4 games off the card. Did ok on those. I grew up a bunch of pro sports following knuckleheads as a kid. Funny thing was my buddies dad was a cop that would take in the cards.

They were printed in Red Key In - A little dot in the map outside Muncie and as I understood these betting cards went to Detroit, Chicago etc in the area.

Fuck. Pearsall shot in Union Square as a victim of an armed robbery over his Rolex. Supposedly fought back and perp was injured with his own gun. Heard Ricky walked himself to the ambulance (what a G), but is now in the hospital. Absolutely sucks

Per SFPD: 49ers Ricky Pearsall was shot through the chest in a robbery attempt over a Rolex. He was headed to a signing event on Geary & Market. There was a struggle for the gun. Both Ricky & the suspect were shot. Both parties stable at SF General Hospital.

where is the lie

some background on what exactly the o'keefe media group is might have been useful, tho

ASHBURN, Va. -- The Washington Commanders have suspended an employee who made comments about the team's players being anti-gay, accused Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones of being racist and anti-gay and called NFL commissioner Roger Goodell a "$50 million puppet."

The team said it has suspended its vice president of content, Rael Enteen, who has been with the organization for four years, for comments he made to an undercover reporter for the O'Keefe Media Group.

According to a social media video from the media group, Enteen had met the reporter on the dating app Hinge and met with her twice at local restaurants.

Snap

trm (tombotomod), Wednesday, 4 September 2024 20:52 (eight months ago)

Enteen told the undercover reporter that "most of the fans are high-school-educated alcoholics" and called them "mouth breathers."

Enteen also told the reporter, whose name was not revealed and who can only be heard on the video, that his job is to sell hope. Three years ago, there were videos of pipes leaking. Fans said it smelled like sewage, but Enteen said he tweeted out that it was just water.

"That," he said, "is state-run media."

Damn, he ended up getting fired. What a unbelievable dick move. You really can’t trust anyone.

Mr. Snrub, Thursday, 5 September 2024 22:07 (eight months ago)

Bengals 8.5 over NE caught my eye. Vegas must think the PATs are really going to suck.

Cincy has not played well to start the season, so I got to wonder.

Not a fan of this new kick off format, plus starting on the 30 seems wrong as well. It used to be on the 20, 25 was okay.

Bee OK, Saturday, 7 September 2024 02:43 (seven months ago)

yeah it just looks silly

frogbs, Saturday, 7 September 2024 03:46 (seven months ago)

oh geez Jordan Love looks like he suffered a real bad injury with 5 seconds left, god damn

frogbs, Saturday, 7 September 2024 03:48 (seven months ago)

As my starting QB in fantasy, I'm heartbroken.

octobeard, Saturday, 7 September 2024 04:35 (seven months ago)

Enteen sounds like he had a date in a 1 party state? There's no way he consented to being recorded, and I'm fairly certain it's illegal to use these types of recordings in 2 party states for reporting purposes? Or is that just as submitted evidence in a court of law? Either way, an absolute slimeball tactic.

For the record, everything he said is pretty on point haha

octobeard, Saturday, 7 September 2024 04:36 (seven months ago)

god the whole thing is just so irritating, for one losing your season in the last few seconds of garbage time, for two because the turf was clearly not great, Packers blew like 7 plays because someone slipped

frogbs, Saturday, 7 September 2024 04:54 (seven months ago)

I mean fine it maybe wasn't garbage time still just when you were about to say "at least no one got hurt"

frogbs, Sunday, 8 September 2024 21:59 (seven months ago)

Raiders dominated the first half, it's like Jim Harbaugh was unprepared for the NFL.

Bee OK, Sunday, 8 September 2024 22:14 (seven months ago)

Two first downs in the first half and like 17 off-side penalties. Justin Herbert can help you right a lot of wrongs.

Who am I kidding, it was the Raiders being the Raiders.

octobeard, Monday, 9 September 2024 22:14 (seven months ago)

Genuinely might be the worst move I’ve ever seen a pro sports franchise make:

1) they gave away the picks that turned the Texans from the worst team in the league to a playoff team in one year

2) it also made them get rid of the closest thing they’ve had to a franchise quarterback in 30 years, only to see him become a franchise QB for a different team

3) he’s been legitimately awful, not only has he missed a ton of time (in part due to the suspension they knew was coming) but even when healthy he’s been Mark Sanchez-level, can’t throw deep, can’t really run either like he used to, seems destined for a bunch of 25-40 for 120 yards type games

4) it’s not like the Browns are hopeless, their defense is incredible, if the offense was league average they’d be a contender, as evidenced by the fact that Joe Flacco (who was retired!) took em to the playoffs last year

5) they blew decades of goodwill, their franchise has been so cursed and hapless people started rooting for them on principle, now they’re known as the team willing to blow up everything and pay big money for a serial sex offender

Just a total fucking disaster from every angle, really sorry for anyone who chooses to root for this team

frogbs, Monday, 9 September 2024 22:29 (seven months ago)

Jimmy Haslam is a real one. Takes a truly special owner and player to make a Niner fan root for the Cowboys on the road against a perennial underdog.

octobeard, Monday, 9 September 2024 22:54 (seven months ago)

i don't bet but a reigning conference champion, at home, against a 7-10 team with an old guy coming off achilles surgery being only 3-point favorites seems odd

mookieproof, Tuesday, 10 September 2024 00:26 (seven months ago)

Rodgers looked good on that one drive though the Niners refusal to cover Wilson may have helped

frogbs, Tuesday, 10 September 2024 01:21 (seven months ago)

mookieproof, Tuesday, 10 September 2024 03:00 (seven months ago)

hilarious this was billed as THE RETURN OF AARON RODGERS and the Jets got like 15 minutes of possession

Rodgers' arm still has zip but he looks slow. also visibly frustrated already. he's got something with Wilson. Lazard might be washed though

frogbs, Tuesday, 10 September 2024 03:03 (seven months ago)

granted the offense wasn't really the problem here

frogbs, Tuesday, 10 September 2024 03:03 (seven months ago)

what’s the right opinion to have on the tyreek situation

brony james (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 10 September 2024 18:22 (seven months ago)

Driving way too fast in a sports car is silly and dangerous. Cops putting people in cuffs and on the ground is stupid and dangerous. The cops are being investigated for their behavior. Tyreek plays on as he should. Hopefully in the future he doesn’t take his car up to track speed on a public road?

trm (tombotomod), Tuesday, 10 September 2024 18:25 (seven months ago)

NB, I have a bias against people with too-fast cars blazing down the highway way above the limit.

Vikings kicker Rich Karlis hit seven field goals in regulation, while the Rams scored three touchdowns and three extra points to make it 21-21 at the end of the fourth quarter. In overtime the Vikings scored a safety to win 23-21.

also guessing there haven't been too many games won in overtime on a safety

i had always assumed that the NFL didn't play on fridays/saturdays (until late december) because it didn't want to compete with/cannibalize its free feeder system (high school/college football). which is lol naive; the league might have cared about that 50 years ago but i can't imagine it does now

anyway i turns out that they are prevented by law (for antitrust purposes) from doing so!

the 1961 Sports Broadcasting Act effectively bars the NFL from airing a major part of its schedule Friday evenings or on Saturdays between the second Friday in September and the second Saturday in December.

Caleb Williams may not actually be a bust

frogbs, Monday, 7 October 2024 02:31 (six months ago)

this is from the new book by Ta-Nehisi Coates Rules, The Thread which . . . i actually had nightmares about darryl stingley back then. and yet i still follow football

When I was seven years old, my mother purchased a copy of Sports Illustrated for me. She taught me to read before I entered school, and encouraged the practice however she could. And what more encouragement could there be than this issue of Sports Illustrated, which featured my hero, Tony Dorsett, running back for the Dallas Cowboys. This was 1983, an era of American football when running backs seemed as large as champions pulled out of Greek myth. How could a man of Earl Campbell's might move so fast, racing past one defender and then staving in the chest of another? How could Eric Dickerson run so high, against all convention, bounding through holes in the defense, an obvious target that was never caught? These days I will occasionally watch an old clip of Roger Craig, through will alone, breaking off a forty-six-yard run against the Rams, or Marcus Allen reversing field in the Super Bowl. But back then, in an unwired world, stories, words, histories—none of it could be gotten on demand. If you bore witness to such a feat—as I did with Allen—it lived in memory until the broadcast gods decided you could see it again. And so a magazine featuring the exploits of one of these heroes was not just, to me, an assembly of words and stories. It was a treasure.

Because I really did believe that Tony Dorsett was magic. He was five foot eight, built ordinary as one of my uncles. But when he slid the lone-starred helmet over his head, he transformed into something untouchable. I remember him darting through the defense, shifting direction at full speed, dancing, sprinting the length of the field, and outrunning an entire team. But whatever my affinity for Dorsett, this is not what I remember about that issue. In fact, until a few months ago, I'd forgotten that Dorsett was even on the cover at all, because deeper in the magazine, I found a story so unsettling, so horrific even, that it blotted out every adjacent detail.

The story was titled "Where Am I? It Has to Be a Bad Dream." Its subject was Darryl Stingley, who'd once been a wide receiver. I thought of wide receivers as mythical too—contortionists like Wes Chandler, extending back to snag a ball bouncing off into the ether, or acrobats like Lynn Swann, dancing in the air. I absorbed these exploits on Sunday mornings through highlights curated by the NFL itself. But a magazine like Sports Illustrated existed beyond the garden, out in the street where journalism and literature collided. And out there was neither magic nor myth—only the realest of monsters.

And so I read the true story of Stingley, who back in 1978 took a hit on a slant route and woke up in a hospital. The story began there, in the hospital—with Stingley unable to move a single limb, unable to call to his mother or wipe the tears running down his face. In an instant, the contortionist had been rendered quadriplegic. Only a few paragraphs in, I wanted to put the magazine down forever, to escape the story, but I was held fast by forces I could not then understand. I knew that there was something different in the storytelling, something in its style, that pulled me toward it with the gravity of a star, until I was there, I was on the field, yelling, pleading with Stingley to watch out for the incoming hit, and then in the hospital, right next to him, helpless to relieve the horror blooming in his eyes as he realized his fate. And then the star became a black hole, and I crossed an event horizon where I was no longer imagining myself there with Stingley, but was Stingley himself, and it was my body pinned to the bed, and the spokes were drilled into my skull, and it was I crying out to a heedless god.

mookieproof, Monday, 7 October 2024 02:42 (six months ago)

No way

Bee OK, Monday, 7 October 2024 04:54 (six months ago)

Wow. What a writer.

His referencing that Sports Illustrated in the pre-internet days reminds me how much my early sports fandom and knowledge is founded in the sports books my parents got for me from the Scholastic Books catalog in probably first through third grades (78-80). These were thin paperbacks recounting famous sports stories of the previous generations: Willis Reed in Game 7, Hank Aaron's 715, Pete Rose's 44, Jim Thorpe, etc. etc. I read these books repeatedly as a kid and the heroes in them sounded like mythology.

Football media loves Tomlin as he is good copy. Lots of Steelers fans out there seem to think less of him, but hey no great Qb- you don’t win big.

The Artist formerly known as Earlnash, Monday, 21 October 2024 01:40 (six months ago)

Ouch Sauce…

I kinda would not changed QB but I think the fact that Fields did not throw for 150 yards the last 2 games is probably why they made change.

It’s a risk but Wilson has not played great but he is already up to 145 yards.

Either way this is going to be the game on line, radio and tv being discussed. And thank god the Cowboys are not involved.

The Artist formerly known as Earlnash, Monday, 21 October 2024 01:52 (six months ago)

Lmao at this thing with the challenge flag, funniest Jets play since the buttfumble

frogbs, Monday, 21 October 2024 02:04 (six months ago)

Rodgers is never throwing to Wilson again after that is he

frogbs, Monday, 21 October 2024 02:28 (six months ago)

enjoy ESPN claiming 'Browns fear QB Watson suffered torn Achilles' as if they weren't praying for it (and conceivably getting paid for it by insurance?)

mookieproof, Monday, 21 October 2024 02:57 (six months ago)

Wilson seemed pretty clueless the later seasons in Seattle and Denver. How it all went down even with all that money hurt the ego.

Dudes got to know he has to have a second act if he wants a gold jacket. If it just turns to crud and he does not get that other chapter, he is basically McNabb with a ring.

McNabbs flame out after he left Philly and his post football kinda left his rep in tatters. Wilson was a better stats guy and got the ring, but how many QBs get in?

The Artist formerly known as Earlnash, Monday, 21 October 2024 03:04 (six months ago)

wilson was actually fine with the broncos last year, despite his coach actively hating him/using him as an excuse for losses

neither fields nor russell have too many options apart from pickens, who has become insane in the way that elite receivers become insane -- every single passing play should target me! -- without actually being an elite receiver

mookieproof, Monday, 21 October 2024 03:16 (six months ago)

Russell Wilson bullshit definitely still in effect though

Jets struggles have been legitimately funny, like as far as "suddenly unlikeable superstar attempts to create superteam for a cursed franchise" stories go you can't really draw it up better than this. three of their last four have been extremely winnable games and the other they nearly came back and won anyway. not only are they losing but Rodgers is getting his ass beat out there

frogbs, Monday, 21 October 2024 03:17 (six months ago)

hott ogo (voodoo chili), Monday, 21 October 2024 03:29 (six months ago)

definitely doesn't feel like Peyton's Broncos or the Tompa Bay Bucs at all it feels more like whatever team James Harden is currently playing on

frogbs, Monday, 21 October 2024 03:32 (six months ago)

but he's so tuned-in with devante adams (three catches, nine targets, 30 yards)

mookieproof, Monday, 21 October 2024 03:42 (six months ago)

James Harden line is so true.

I got a chuckle out of that one.

The Artist formerly known as Earlnash, Monday, 21 October 2024 10:34 (six months ago)

I tend to root for downtrodden franchises like the Jets, but I am so happy that bringing in Rodgers and giving him everything he wanted nuked whatever it was they thought they were building.

Browns and Jets story lines are just *chef's kiss* this year.

octobeard, Monday, 21 October 2024 13:15 (six months ago)

curious if we've seen the last of Deshaun Watson, he hasn't had a single 300 yard game with the Browns, he hasn't even thrown for 200 this season. they are 1-6. they were a playoff team last year with Joe Flacco.

patritos went 12 plays, 70 yards in 2:35, scored on 4th-and-goal from the one with 22 seconds left, *also* made the two-point conversion for a three-point lead

jets on their own 30, no timeouts, 22 seconds left. rodgers throws for about 25 yards but receiver can't hang on. rodgers throws for another 25 yards, complete, can't get to the line in time to stop the clock, game ends, both teams 2-6

Winston got really lucky that one that hit his lineman was not picked off, he obviously just chucked it to avoid the sack.

he's a real Jesus-take-the-wheel kind of QB

I think ‘Fxxk it Chuck it’ is more of a life creedo for Winston.

truly amazing season in the meadowlands

mookieproof, Friday, 22 November 2024 21:14 (five months ago)

Rodgers has thrown for 2,442 yards, 17 touchdowns and seven interceptions in 11 starts. His 50.9 QBR ranks 25th out of 32 qualified quarterbacks. He isn't playing terribly, but he isn't elevating the offense, either.

It does speak to the state of the Jets' offensive ineptitude that their 18.5 points per game this season is their highest since they averaged 20.8 points per game in 2018.

Anthony Richardson is an NFL athlete but he is about as accurate as fellow Gator Tim Tebow. Colts need to start over on the QB front.

Much maligned, but I think Daniel Jones might be worth for some club to buy low as a backup.

lol - not sure why you'd think this with all the injuries and cromulent coaching of late. My pregame score prediction was 31-17 Packers and it's looking like a good call. Pack are going to run away with this.

Thomas, however, never should have tried to score. He is coached to go down immediately.

Thomas: Man, all I seen was end zone. I ain't going to lie. 'Man, I'm going to score.' ... Listen, it's so funny. I would've [gone down] if they crowded a little bit more. But I just got it and said, 'Six points.'

McCarthy: That's a 'no mas,' situation, so I think those types of things we just got to learn from.

Rush: Pretty exciting. Happy for Juanyeh scoring a touchdown, but at the same time, I'm like, 'Get down.' Good job recovering it, I guess.

Thomas: Next time I'm going to go down.

frogbs, Monday, 25 November 2024 22:32 (five months ago)

lmao at the Ravens doing the typical "try to draw offside" on 4th and 1 from their own 19 and it not working and the players and fanbase roaring with excitement about how they couldn't be drawn off, only for the Ravens to actually go for it on 4th, pick it up, and march down the field for a TD in quick succession

her pal Santa falls to the floor (Neanderthal), Friday, 29 November 2024 03:27 (five months ago)

"I like what we did there," Eberflus said. "Again, once it's under seven seconds, you're going to call a timeout there -- actually under 12 and then really you don't have an option because it's third to fourth, you have to throw it into the end zone then.

"To me it's -- I think we handled it the right way, I do believe that you just rerack the play, get it in bounds and call timeout, and that's why we held it and didn't work out the way we wanted it to."

dogg what

her pal Santa falls to the floor (Neanderthal), Friday, 29 November 2024 04:12 (five months ago)

mookieproof, Friday, 29 November 2024 04:20 (five months ago)

Well it’s not his problem anymore

frogbs, Friday, 29 November 2024 17:48 (five months ago)

I think what happened against the Packers was a situation where you would fire him at the end of the season, what happened yesterday was the situation where you fire him immediately so it’s good that they didn’t hesitate.

omar little, Friday, 29 November 2024 20:33 (five months ago)

otm, not only what happened yesterday but his terrible press conference this morning too. I could see him surviving the season if he had taken accountability, said the loss was on him, etc. But he did the absolute opposite of that.

octobeard, Friday, 29 November 2024 22:06 (five months ago)

right I mean tbh its kind of understandable, the gameplan changed several times within that last minute. they went from thinking touchdown to lets just get a few more yards for the FG, maybe they can even run 3 plays if they do it right, then Williams gets sacked, they're out of FG range, and the clock is ticking and he just doesn't know what to do. I think he's actually right that you probably don't wanna call timeout right away, you wanna run your best 10 yard play and then call it, but you got a rookie QB out there and a coach who isn't really good at thinking on his feet, they just let a few too many seconds tick off, hell they snap it at :09 they're probably fine. so many moving parts and so little experience, it's kind of natural they might screw it up, might've been refreshing to hear Eberfluss say "yeah we biffed it" instead of offering an explanation which makes no sense

frogbs, Friday, 29 November 2024 22:36 (five months ago)

All for the sake of turkey day entertainment to distract us from y’know

trm (tombotomod), Friday, 29 November 2024 22:58 (five months ago)

Yeah obv Caleb didn't do what he expected, but the Captain Save-an-Eberflus I talked to yesterday (a surprising number!) who basically said his hands were tied, like...your rookie QB just got sacked, there has to be a set point on the clock that Eberflu decides in advance "if the ball isn't snapped by this time, I call timeout and we regroup".

Even if you fuck up and there's too little time to do two plays, wouldn't you want your hail mary to be drawn up and discussed on the sideline rather than haphazardly run?

her pal Santa falls to the floor (Neanderthal), Friday, 29 November 2024 23:27 (five months ago)

Lions & Chiefs both escaped with wins by opponent blunders. Raiders center just blew it worse than the bears QB by snapping early when they were in FG range & down by two.

There are scores of football fans trying to seriously argue all over the net that Goff should have been down cos his knee hit the ground.

it is the college rule, but under NFL rules Goff was not down by contact

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Down_(gridiron_football)

"In the NFL, if the offensive player is touching the ground with some part of his body other than his hands or feet, then he is down if any defensive player touches him. In the NCAA, an offensive player touching the ground in the same manner is down, regardless of whether a defensive player touches him."

For those moments when you think Madden's cultural prominence has receded a bit

Riposte Malone (Neanderthal), Thursday, 19 December 2024 18:14 (four months ago)

The Athletic article:

The New York Jets were nearing the finish line on a deal to acquire wide receiver Jerry Jeudy from the Denver Broncos last offseason, but the trade fell apart when Jets owner Woody Johnson nixed the idea over Jeudy’s player rating in the “Madden NFL” video game, according to multiple team and league sources.

Jeudy was eventually traded to the Cleveland Browns instead and became a 1,000-yard receiver there. The Jets, meanwhile, have slumped to 4-10 amid a disappointing season.

Those disappointments have resulted in Johnson orchestrating the firings of head coach Robert Saleh five games into the season and general manager Joe Douglas after Week 12.

In September, Johnson suggested to a room full of Jets coaches and officials that the team bench future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers, according to multiple team sources. Instead, a week later Johnson helped pull the strings to land All-Pro wideout Davante Adams to serve as Rodgers’ top receiver, a role that could have been held by Jeudy.

The proposed Jeudy trade wasn’t the only time Johnson cited “Madden” ratings when evaluating players, according to the source. The owner pushed back on signing free-agent guard John Simpson in the offseason due to his “awareness” rating in the video game. The Jets signed Simpson anyway, and he has had a solid season.

To some, the reference to the video game ratings is a sign of Johnson allowing his teenage sons, Brick and Jack, to influence the franchise.

“When we’re discussing things, you’ll hear Woody cite something that Brick or Jack read online that’s being weighed equally against whatever opinion someone else in the department has,” said one Jets executive.

Current and former players and coaches have also said Brick and Jack have brought friends — male and female — into the locker room, where Woody Johnson, his wife, Suzanne Ircha Johnson, and his sons have criticized players.

In another instance, on Halloween night this season, Rodgers entered the locker room with a game ball prepared to be given to interim coach Jeff Ulbrich, who just recorded his first win. Instead, Brick Johnson took it upon himself to award a game ball to wide receiver Garrett Wilson.

Woody Johnson then gave Ulbrich the ball Rodgers had been holding. Multiple players said the energy felt drained out of the room. “It was the most awkward, cringe-worthy, brutal experience,” one player said.

symsymsym, Thursday, 19 December 2024 18:51 (four months ago)

And really who knows if they’ll even start him, might as well see what Tyrod can do over a full game right?

frogbs, Monday, 30 December 2024 17:03 (four months ago)

i can understand why he'd do it -- it must be pretty frustrating working for an organization like the jets! -- but lol at rodgers taking public shots about 'being released by a teenager' and 'ask woody' if he'll be back next season as if it were the team's dysfunction at fault for his performance rather than the fact that he is utterly cooked

also seems like the kind of thing that might get you spitefully benched when you still need one TD pass to reach 500!

mookieproof, Monday, 30 December 2024 21:46 (four months ago)

at the beginning of the season I kinda agreed, he looked immobile but his arm at least still had some zip, but now he seems to be underthrowing a lot and also appears as mentally checked out as I've ever seen a player be in this league, you'd have to be a truly horrible and cursed franchise to even consider it, so yeah he'll be in Cleveland next year

frogbs, Sunday, 5 January 2025 22:00 (four months ago)

The Chargers moved from San Diego to Los Angeles.

well congrats to the Lions, hope they go far. they have that "us vs. the world" vibe to them. I usually find that attitude annoying because either they don't really have haters or they do for good reasons. with the Lions it's different though because it's the world that's beating them down. every single year they did something no other NFL team had done before. and never in a good way. its like the world conspires for them to always lose in the end. and I expect that to happen again this year. but maybe it wont

he was pretty bad vs. the Lions but this game it just looks like he always has a half second less than he expects to because the D-line keeps busting through, no QB performs particularly well when that's the case

frogbs, Tuesday, 14 January 2025 03:56 (three months ago)

8 sacks!

Bee OK, Tuesday, 14 January 2025 04:07 (three months ago)

or maybe he's just pretty bad playing from behind, which the Vikings generally have not been but the Jets always were

frogbs, Tuesday, 14 January 2025 04:07 (three months ago)

9 sacks. As many as points scored.

Glam conspiracist (Dan Peterson), Tuesday, 14 January 2025 04:19 (three months ago)

Rams do feel like kind of a dark horse right now

frogbs, Tuesday, 14 January 2025 04:21 (three months ago)

it just looks like he always has a half second less than he expects to

that's fair but you can't take nine sacks (and while a *lot* of the blame for that has to fall on the play-calling, i suspect it will still hamper him in the free-agent market)

mookieproof, Tuesday, 14 January 2025 04:26 (three months ago)

Jim Harbaugh couldn't get his players to focus on the game. Sean McVay was able to do the impossible. Two days difference did matter but you can see how good McVay is.

Bee OK, Tuesday, 14 January 2025 04:50 (three months ago)

Vikings lose four games this year, twice to the Lions and twice to the Rams.

Bee OK, Tuesday, 14 January 2025 06:09 (three months ago)

I think the Rams could knock off the Lions but the Eagles scare me to death. When they played the Eagles in Los Angeles late November, they were badly dominated.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 15 January 2025 03:41 (three months ago)

Eagles offense is a bit off. I think LA has a decent chance this week, but the west coast going to 3pm east coast game seems to be a drag sometimes.

Thing with the Lions is that you expect them to not win. Hatcats seem to be playing with a whole lot going their way, so they got a shot.

The Artist formerly known as Earlnash, Wednesday, 15 January 2025 20:20 (three months ago)

As a lifetime lions fan, I'm cautiously optimistic about their chances. I can't help but expect that they will breakdown at some point, especially with all the defensive injuries, but with anzalone back and guys stepping up off the bench, they just keep on rolling. Not surprised that they beat the cupcake vikings to get the 1 seed, but I was surprised that they stuck with the Bills in week 15 with like 8 starters down. I do think that they will make it to the Superbowl, but believing that they will win all it requires a hope beyond thought.

BrianB, Thursday, 16 January 2025 14:23 (three months ago)

it would have been one thing if they'd won it with Stafford, who everyone agreed was a HoF caliber QB who just never had a great team around him, but Goff, who'd been declared a bust and given to Detroit basically for free? that would be almost *too* good to actually happen. maybe they make the Super Bowl, but it would be against Kansas City who will almost certainly engineer a game winning field goal drive with 45 seconds left

frogbs, Thursday, 16 January 2025 14:31 (three months ago)

If this is the end of his Browns career, his three-year tenure in Cleveland will conclude with a 61 percent completion rate, 3,365 passing yards, 19 touchdowns, 12 interceptions and more settled lawsuits than games played. Watson’s EPA (expected points added) per dropback with the Browns was -0.19, according to TruMedia, which ranks 197th out of 201 NFL quarterbacks since 2000 (minimum 15 starts). The only quarterbacks who were worse: Zach Wilson (2021-24 New York Jets), John Skelton (2010-12 Arizona Cardinals), Blaine Gabbert (2011-13 Jacksonville Jaguars) and JaMarcus Russell (2007-09 Raiders). Watson is the only name on that list who wasn’t on a rookie deal.

My enduring memory of the game is going to be the Lions mascot standing on the field in the aftermath, Hatcats celebrating behind him on the way back through the tunnel, his hands on his hips, and you can just tell from his body language he’s got a thousand-yard stare on underneath the mask

trm (tombotomod), Sunday, 19 January 2025 18:09 (three months ago)

they showed an old dude in lions gear in the stands toward the end and you could tell from his expression he was calculating how many more lions season he would be around for

call all destroyer, Sunday, 19 January 2025 18:46 (three months ago)

yeah that's the cruelty of professional sports, idk if any fanbase deserves it more than Detroit's, I mean even during the Matt Millen years they still packed the stands and went crazy for these laughably bad teams, they still had their 5-year plans worked out in their heads, they're not overly cynical the way fans of say the Jets or Cowboys are. the storyline they've got going now, with Goff and Campbell and 3 of the most exciting offensive players in the league, is just so good, I mean even as a fan of a rival NFC North team I still have no choice but to pull for them. and yet it just all fell apart in such a cruel way. last year Campbell's tendency to take chances finally bit him; this year the Commanders, no doubt inspired by Campbell, beat him by being fearless in big spots. they had perhaps the worst injury luck in the league, outside of maybe the 49ers. it just isn't fair. but that's pro sports for ya.

Bee OK, Sunday, 19 January 2025 22:33 (three months ago)

Huge stop

Bee OK, Sunday, 19 January 2025 22:38 (three months ago)

Welp

frogbs, Sunday, 19 January 2025 22:47 (three months ago)

It was a fun year for the Rams. I'm surprised they got this far as I didn’t expect to even make the playoffs. Especially without Aaron Donald this year.

frogbs, Monday, 20 January 2025 02:50 (three months ago)

That Allen and Jackson matchup was a no win situation, as the loser is going to have to have the sports media talking about the playoff failure.

Allen might have same fate losing next week to Kc if it comes to that.

The Artist formerly known as Earlnash, Tuesday, 21 January 2025 01:16 (three months ago)

never really had anything against mahomes -- apart from being such a wooden spokesman that they had to bring in snoop to narrate his appearances -- but that play where he slowed up at the sideline was bullshit. it's one thing to try to draw a penalty, but a different thing when that rule is specifically designed to protect him personally

if i were a bills rusher i would be all like 'they're gonna give me 15 anyway and straight-up trying to injure him is totally worth that' i.e. jack tatum rules

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/43538463/snyder-hates-commanders-success

mookieproof, Sunday, 26 January 2025 00:16 (three months ago)

One of Snyder's post-Commanders' investments backfired in a high-profile way. Snyder invested $6 million in a film titled "The Apprentice" through Kinematics, an upstart production company run by his 29-year-old son-in-law, Mark Rapaport. The film tells the story of Trump's early years under the mentorship of lawyer and fixer Roy Cohn. When he made the investment, Snyder assumed the film would depict Trump positively, a source with firsthand knowledge told ESPN. But last February, Snyder screened the film with Rapaport at an island home and, the source said, became enraged by the decidedly negative portrait. The film was shelved until Kinematics finally sold off its stake last summer, and the filmmakers searched months for a U.S. distributor. In October, "The Apprentice" was released in the United States to box-office failure but critical acclaim and, this week, Academy Award nominations for actors Sebastian Stan and Jeremy Strong.

i resent being compelled to root for the eagles

mookieproof, Monday, 27 January 2025 05:17 (three months ago)

kincaid was close, but that was a difficult catch. not really comparable to andrews' brain fart.

also, buffalo could've maybe tried a diffeent play besides the "smash allen into the line" play that had already failed numerous times before that fateful fourth down. don't have much sympathy for them. i feel for their fans though. maybe one day the elite josh allen will win a road playoff game

what angers me about the smurfs these days (voodoo chili), Monday, 27 January 2025 14:36 (three months ago)

have the eagles just broken every oc's brain (head coach, more likely) into believing that the most predictable play in football will work every time?

what angers me about the smurfs these days (voodoo chili), Monday, 27 January 2025 14:38 (three months ago)

yeah if he'd gotten it it would've been an all time playoff catch, Josh was just chucking it up there

it did seem like Buffalo adjusted a little too late, yeah they had that one drive where every run was working but the Chiefs stopped it pretty well the next drive.

either way I do feel pretty bad for them, gotta be frustrating to have a great team like this and just lose to the same guys year in and year out, especially knowing everyone in the country was rooting for you. its not like they're getting destroyed either, they're always just one play away from winning. also frustrating that 4th down spot went against them, personally I thought he got it by like an inch, probably too close to call, alas all these pivotal late-game calls just do always seem to go the Chiefs' way, much as they did for the Patriots

frogbs, Monday, 27 January 2025 14:43 (three months ago)

the bills also recovered 4 of their own fumbles

what angers me about the smurfs these days (voodoo chili), Monday, 27 January 2025 14:54 (three months ago)

I might not actually watch the Super Bowl for the first time in a while. Would love to see the Chiefs lose, but really don't want the Eagles to win. Maybe the Superdome will just sink into the earth or something Feb 9th

octobeard, Monday, 27 January 2025 20:40 (three months ago)

It's probably going to be a shocking repeat of what happened two years ago, with the Eagles choking a lead or failing a comeback with the help of the refs.

octobeard, Monday, 27 January 2025 20:41 (three months ago)

sure seems inevitable that Harrison Butker will be the hero with a last second field goal. that's just how shit goes in 2025.

frogbs, Monday, 27 January 2025 22:02 (three months ago)

The SB will be on TV at the annual SB party I attend, but I doubt I'll be watching very closely. Don't care about either of these teams, but even more so dislike their style of play - for different reasons, but both coming down to just being boring to watch.

beard papa, Tuesday, 28 January 2025 00:11 (three months ago)

OK OK how on earth is Saquon boring to watch

trm (tombotomod), Tuesday, 28 January 2025 00:58 (three months ago)

I can see how Philly taking all the drama out of short yardage situations might irritate people. that said I don't think it "ruins the game" nor should it be outlawed like some people are suggesting. the reason why the Eagles are so good at it is because both their QB and RB1 can deadlift 500 pounds. not all teams can do this. the Bills arguably lost their trip to the Super Bowl by assuming they could.

frogbs, Tuesday, 28 January 2025 01:22 (three months ago)

there are two kickers in the hall of fame

despite being the NFL's all-time leader in points scored, field goal attempts, and field goals made -- and ranking second in games played -- adam vinatieri did not become the third in his first year of eligibility

if kicking is so little respected and kickers are considered basically fungible, maybe it should be made a less important part of the game

mookieproof, Friday, 7 February 2025 21:52 (two months ago)

Good thing the NFL doesn't care about player behavior off the field when considering hall eligibility, I'm sure Justin Tucker might have a chance at being the third kicker, but who knows

octobeard, Saturday, 8 February 2025 19:22 (two months ago)

Wait Vinatieri is not in yet? Damn

octobeard, Saturday, 8 February 2025 19:23 (two months ago)

pro football hall of fame enforces a “small hall” mindset, it might be a while before vinatieri gets in because only
five people get in per year, brees and larry fitz hit the ballot this year, and lots of deserving candidates have been waiting their turn

gestures broadly at...everything (voodoo chili), Saturday, 8 February 2025 19:34 (two months ago)

I'm surprised Vinatieri isn't in, if I had to guess which 2 kickers were in (assuming Blanda doesn't count?) I'd say him and Morten Andersen

frogbs, Saturday, 8 February 2025 20:16 (two months ago)

he's pretty clearly no worse than the second-greatest kicker of all time, and they only inducted four this week (the smallest such class in 20 years)

https://www.pro-football-reference.com/hof/hofm_K.htm

i mean i'm happy for sterling sharpe, but he only played seven seasons (due to a neck injury) and was not the second-greatest player ever at his position

mookieproof, Saturday, 8 February 2025 20:59 (two months ago)

He’s having a better day than Aaron Rodgers at least

frogbs, Monday, 10 February 2025 01:27 (two months ago)

I had strong misgivings about this halftime show but I’m totally into it now

trm (tombotomod), Monday, 10 February 2025 01:36 (two months ago)

My partner: “I really like that he’s just wearing regular jeans”

trm (tombotomod), Monday, 10 February 2025 01:37 (two months ago)

It was okay but he looked cute as fuck in those jeans.

the talented mr pimply (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 10 February 2025 01:41 (two months ago)

I miss wearing boot cut / flared jeans before I got fat.

Bee OK, Monday, 10 February 2025 02:57 (two months ago)

i want the neilsen ratings to tell me exactly how many people were *not* going to watch the super bowl until they learned that tom brady was in the booth. because

My wife's theory is that all these lame ads with celebrities or semi celebrities is mostly because the CMOs want an excuse to hang with famous people.

mine is that because they can just record their bit in front of a green screen and someone will just composite everything together, they don't really have to do anything but collect the money.

this whole belichick thing is wild

mookieproof, Wednesday, 30 April 2025 20:58 (six days ago)

The interview drama or the fact he's dating a woman more than 50 years younger?

octobeard, Thursday, 1 May 2025 01:44 (five days ago)

it's odd that he's dating a woman 1/3 his age, but whatever, they're adults

it's bizarre that he's ceded control of his public image to her tho

mookieproof, Thursday, 1 May 2025 02:11 (five days ago)

Eh, it's a pretty timeless human desire, and I'm sure he knows "the deal" with her. Hope she gets what she can out of the it too.

octobeard, Thursday, 1 May 2025 02:45 (five days ago)

look I find that kind of extreme age gap unsettling too but I think what makes it much creepier is that it's Bill Belichick a man who barely codes as human

frogbs, Thursday, 1 May 2025 02:51 (five days ago)

it's nice to have a hot gf!

it's kind of embarrassing to pose for instagram pics where she is a mermaid and he is reeling her in onto the beach tho

mookieproof, Thursday, 1 May 2025 03:04 (five days ago)
