I guess Florida State thought since they were playing in Ireland that it was a bowl game and they did not need to go.
I was surprised that Georgia Tech won that one.

ND and A&M could be interesting match up.

― 145 feet up in a Jeffrey Pine (Sufjan Grafton), Monday, 21 October 2024 18:11 (eight months ago)
i think even if they could afford to fire him they wouldn't because after last season the fanbase is too invested in him being the savior. they will have no choice to hit the portal hard again to be competitive bcuz their roster just isn't good, and that might work. but if it doesn't then i'll be very interested to see what happens
― slob wizard (J0rdan S.), Monday, 21 October 2024 18:20 (eight months ago)
in spite of messy officiating, fans throwing bottles on the field, dropped balls, and interceptions, UGA/Texas was a lot of fun to watch
― Brad C., Monday, 21 October 2024 18:34 (eight months ago)
xp They improved each year under Norvell until this season, so he probably is a good coach. Their portal ranking has been fairly consistent, but it seems (at a glance) they took more proven players in '23 compared to '24 - more guys with T ranking > HS ranking.
― 145 feet up in a Jeffrey Pine (Sufjan Grafton), Monday, 21 October 2024 18:43 (eight months ago)
Miami have been extremely entertaining this year. Every close game has at least one controversial late call. This most recent one with Louisville was clearly not a fumble, though. The hit on Fernando Mendoza was the definition of targeting, however. Cal were also screwed by the refs in South Bend two years ago, so I feel quite badly for them.
― 145 feet up in a Jeffrey Pine (Sufjan Grafton), Monday, 21 October 2024 18:51 (eight months ago)
i definitely think norvell is a good coach, but he's at a school where they expect you to be better than just good. there's still a lot of evidence that you need to recruit HS at a really high level to compete for a national title, regardless of how well you portal, and norvell has never recruited high school well at FSU, even last year. recruiting people have been calling this out for years but he was able to paper over it w/ great portal additions covering the last two seasons. this year they struck out and there is no base talent level to fall back on and the result is the worst season in school history basically. i think his issue is that he's at a job that expects consistent excellence, but in order to be consistently excellent you very likely cannot be relying on the portal bringing in half your starting line up every season
― slob wizard (J0rdan S.), Monday, 21 October 2024 18:54 (eight months ago)
This most recent one with Louisville was clearly not a fumble, though.
(as a miami fan) the thing that was annoying about this is that, in reality, a call wasn't even made. that was standard practice in these exact situations now -- the refs "call" it a touchdown bcuz the rules still stipulate that a call has to be made on the field, but in reality the refs are doing nothing and just waiting to consult the video. the call was always the correct one, which was an incomplete pass. nothing was actually "overturned"
― slob wizard (J0rdan S.), Monday, 21 October 2024 18:58 (eight months ago)
yes, I agree they would have ruled it an incomplete pass in the moment if video review weren't an option.

i think georgia and ohio state are still on a different level than anyone else in terms of talent and physical attributes of their players. but their QBs are not that great, or in the case of beck haven't been playing that great. teams like miami and oregon have lesser overall talent but still enough talent to beat them when combined w/ superior QB play. having to beat both ohio state and georgia would be tough for any team though.

acab, of course, but if you put cops in charge of security when dozens of large men in helmets and pads start fighting, them using pepper spray seems inevitable and conceivably even warranted

Oregon completed the flip of five-star Ohio State cornerback pledge Na'eem Offord Wednesday afternoon, gaining a stunning commitment from the nation's top-ranked defender hours into the early signing period.Offord, No. 4 in the ESPN 300, had been the highest-rated prospect in the Buckeyes' 2025 class since Feb. 4. But the defensive back from Birmingham, Alabama, spent the fall flirting with potential moves to Oregon and Auburn all the way into the early signing period before flipping his pledge to the Ducks on Wednesday in a ceremony at Alabama's A.H. Parker High School.Offord is now the second-ranked member of Oregon's 2025 class, trailing only five-star wide receiver Darkorien Moore (No. 3 in the ESPN 300), who signed with the Ducks Wednesday morning, and follows Cal quarterback flip Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele (No. 18 pocket passer) as the program's second signing day addition.Offord visited Oregon early in the regular season and returned to Ohio State in Week 14. But Offord visited no school more frequently in his recruitment than Auburn -- most recently on Nov. 23 -- and the Tigers entered the early signing period appearing to be the most likely flip destination for the 6-foot-2, defensive back before Offord's Wednesday commitment.

I gave up college football a few seasons ago, but I learned from my dad last weekend that the SEC doesn't even have divisions anymore? It's just one giant amorphous blob of schools that play each other whenever.
I was a Tide fan all my life, but it seems perfectly fine to me that they've come back down to earth post-Saban. Most schools don't even get one era like that, and Alabama's had two. That's plenty.

Yeah, I don’t really care who wins but think I'm rooting for the Buckeyes

i think it's cool that players get a cut now but watching the whole thing turn into every single player being on a one-year contract is both incredible to watch and not ultimately sustainable

idk, maybe if they all go to the SEC it will be briefly sustainable

blue chippers are leaving the sec to (they think) get a bigger bag these days

https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2025/06/06/house-ncaa-settlement/“The agreement resolves three antitrust suits against the NCAA — House, Carter and Hubbard — all of which challenged restrictions on athlete compensation. It was hashed out by attorneys for the plaintiffs and six defendants: the NCAA, SEC, Big Ten, ACC, Big 12 and Pac 12. The settlement includes almost $2.8 billion in back damages for former and current athletes (and their lawyers). It also creates a new economic model for top-tier college sports, permitting any Division I school to pay their athletes up to about $20.5 million this coming academic year. That cap will rise incrementally throughout the 10-year life of the settlement.”
