The last time ABC broadcast the Super Bowl was in February 2006 for Super Bowl XL, when the Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Seattle Seahawks.

College Week 0 starts Friday Night! Decided to combine the NFL with NCAA as there isn't enough activity for two threads.
― Bee OK, Thursday, 27 August 2026 02:10 (two months ago)
The Rams preseason TV games have always jumped around. Started on Fox but has been on KABC these last few years. Because David Ellison now own KCBS they're broadcasting them this year, makes sense as he's from LA. The strange thing is the Chargers have been on KCBS since the move and still are. So this year both are on KCBS but tonight they played each other. To get around this they broadcast the Rams on KCAL, their sister station.
― Bee OK, Friday, 28 August 2026 05:45 (two months ago)
They still play the Raiders in LA for the preseason on KTLA and tonight it's on vs the 49ers. Ironically, they hardly show up on Sundays on LA TV.

It’s profoundly annoying that the Browns are so bad and dumb that half my NFL content feeds are just guys going holy fuck, how stupid are the browns, this is gonna be terrible for them, guess this is what tanking looks like, etc

similar issues with the Falcons, they’re probably gonna be Not Great, Bob this year but people can’t shut up about them? I suppose in both cases this comes down to poorly run organizations providing more preseason drama. But damn

ok this is pretty diabolical, seems to have worked too as the Pats during the Brady/Belichick years made 9.4% more of their FGs than their opponents which is the best in that span by a wide margin

― Bee OK, Saturday, 5 September 2026 19:35 (two months ago)
Niners enjoying Melbourne and vice versa is adorable. Seems like a missed opportunity for the Rams to also show up early and engage with the locals before the game, but the Rams are lame
Also show up 24 hours before the game? Not sure how that is at all going to be beneficial for the players' health. I suppose whoever wins will be able to say "we told you so" but still, injuries in week 2/3 may tell the real story
― octobeard, Saturday, 5 September 2026 21:41 (two months ago)
The Rams have been doing this tho, they did it last year for London for example.
https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/rams-australia-travel-plans-49ers-week-1/
― Bee OK, Saturday, 5 September 2026 22:06 (two months ago)
The only thing I can see working in the Rams favor with the "rhythm" they intend to follow is the fact the game is at 10:30am, which could favor their travel schedule. Curious if they keep the team on a very strict sleep cycle and make sure they crash at like 5pm the day before and make sure all rooms have light sealed window blinds or something. Maybe?
I could see the Niners having issues adapting to the 10:30am start time once they've acclimated - normally the earliest they'd play is 1pm local time. Which really irks me about when they chose to play this game. It really should have been in November with only a 5 hour time difference and a bye week after since everyone is forgetting how shit the jet lag is going to be upon returning (way worse then going there)
― octobeard, Saturday, 5 September 2026 22:15 (two months ago)
Though if both teams leave at say 3-4pm in Melbourne, they should be back by 9am Friday (same day!) to the west coast, allowing them all weekend + Monday to get over the jetlag.
― octobeard, Saturday, 5 September 2026 22:17 (two months ago)
Regardless of the competitive logistics here, it still sucks the Rams are basically telling Melbourne and Australia "nah" and avoiding building the brand and fan base there.
― octobeard, Saturday, 5 September 2026 22:19 (two months ago)
That's true but the Rams are Super Bowl or bust this year. They have one goal and need to be selfish to accomplish that goal.
― Bee OK, Saturday, 5 September 2026 22:24 (two months ago)
Not saying that is not the goal of the 49ers but the Rams are this year's favorites and it probably isn't close to whoever is second.
― Bee OK, Saturday, 5 September 2026 22:30 (two months ago)
This Boise State v Oregon game is crazy
― Bee OK, Saturday, 5 September 2026 22:39 (two months ago)
It shouldn't have been that close but Oregon does pulls it off.
― Bee OK, Saturday, 5 September 2026 23:06 (two months ago)
Totally - but I do feel their travel arrangement could possibly uptick injuries, though having an extra day (even if on the road) the following week will help. But who knows, maybe they are on to something.
― octobeard, Saturday, 5 September 2026 23:24 (two months ago)
the rams trying to flying in and out of literally fucking australia on a day's notice is sending me
a) it's completely absurd that the league asks this of teams, and the players union should demand massive compensation
b) the rams are good but i guess roster rules won't let them just send a b-team
c) kudos to the 49ers; australia is wonderful and i hope they enjoyed their week there
― mookieproof, Wednesday, 9 September 2026 05:30 (one month ago)
i mean fine you gave everyone beds and maybe you even tried to deal with the dehydration but the whole thing is absurd! they're playing at 10:35am local time!
ginger turd morelike
― mookieproof, Wednesday, 9 September 2026 05:42 (one month ago)
Yes they should have played this game in November after DST flipped for both countries, granting a 5 hour window and then offer both a bye week after. You could then play the game at noon local time instead of bloody 10:35
Part of the Rams strategy is to keep everyone on PDT so the game time is 5pm for the players, which is supposedly the time of day for peak physical preference.
I get the theory (and they supposedly sent players in the spring to trial it) but it's such a weird and kind rude look

i am not a professional athlete and have never enjoyed the advantages the rams did, but flying cross-country is in itself awfully exhausting
(what is the record of west-coast teams playing on the east coast at 1pm local?)
spending 16 hours on a plane, no matter how very comfortably, is rough!
(presumably they didn't have a middle-of-the-night several-hour stop-over in a non-airconditioned landing strip in tahiti as i did 20 years ago, but nevertheless)
anyway i go back to the fact that the league asking this of players is absurd both financially and competitively

Oh boo hoo...Kenny Stabler won a superbowl drinking jack and smokin' Marlboro's at half time and you complain about having to take a plane ride? Jack Youngblood played a Superbowl with a broken leg.
Got to figure the RAMs still should be decent, but losing those early season division games can come to haunt. I think the real thing is what happens if the old QB gets beat up.
And wow, Rodgers is just on a napalm run on the way out the door...what an axxhole. I got to think this dude might show up in a decade looking haggard and really f'ked as any new ager with their own smoke lodge will tell you spewing that much negative energy ends up coming back on ya.

me neither I mean he seems to be pretty smart drawing up plays on offense and I think he's fine making in-game decisions I just don't think he plays to the teams strengths, like yeah maybe accepting the penalty and going for it was the right play but you can't just run QB sneak, this team has never been good at sneaks and they've blown some big games recently by thinking otherwise. he also looks pissed off all the time like everyone is letting him down, maybe because they play unusually sloppy under him. I would've been fine showing him the door after the way last season ended, was kinda a big debate around here the whole offseason, so its kinda funny to see the Packers do it again but even worse
― frogbs, Monday, 14 September 2026 02:34 (one month ago)

Watched some of the Eagles Commanders game simply because it was on after Bills Texans and I was too lazy to turn the TV off, and even being severely inattentive this jumped out to me
Can someone explain this to me
Commentator (audio): The thing about Jalen Hurts is he has a new offensive coordinator every single seasonCommentator 2 (audio, earnestly): and you cannot do that, you just cannot do thatMe (thinking): Is that bad? Didn’t they just win the superbowl last year?(They did. Five minutes passes)Commentator (video, past player): The thing about Jalen Hurts is he’s had a new offensive coordinator every seasonCommentator 2 (video, an entirely different person, earnestly): You cannot do that, you CANNOT do that
Setting aside that it took me a year to work out the point of what they were actually making here was, is this repetition typical for nfl commentary? Like it got repeated several more times within about ten minutes to the point I genuinely wondered if I was having some sort of memory problem. Maybe it’s because I’m used to baseball commentary but do they really treat their audiences as that stupid and in need of repeating the same points over and over again? It was so fucking weird. I watched most of the Bills games last year and can’t recall a single instance like this.
― bruich, a stór (gyac), Monday, 14 September 2026 08:14 (one month ago)
is this repetition typical for nfl commentary?
yes
i mean it *is* somewhat important that he's had a new coordinator that often, and also that i can barely recognize a recent super bowl mvp without his clownish face paint
but mostly american football commentary is bad (which is why romo was so immediately fresh before he aged out of knowing anything about the current league without doing work)

Devers: What I do is I remember what he got me out with last time and I wait for it. He threw a high fastball, I wait high fastball.
Devers vs Cole:
Regular Season: 46 PA , .350/.435/.975, 8 HR, 15 KPlayoffs: 5 PA , .500/.800/.500, 0 HR, 0 K

― (•̪●) (carne asada), Tuesday, 15 September 2026 19:23 (one month ago)
Week 1 is always a bit weird, but this one seemed a bit more so than others.
Only game I watched this weekend pretty much all of it was Michigan/Oklahoma - which was a pretty good game. I don't think either team is excellent or anything but it was pretty even matchup. That TE Beers for OK is going to play in the NFL. Michigan's corner backs are really good.
― The Artist formerly known as Earlnash, Wednesday, 16 September 2026 05:39 (one month ago)
Oh yeah, Alabama's defense looks to be a bit better this year, they took UK apart in the second half. Bama still cannot run the ball worth a crud.
Colts made a boodle of dumb mistakes in the part I watched. Derrick Henry is still a beast and the dude if he wants and can stay healthy might have an outside shot at going after Emmit Smith if you look at the numbers. He's starting to creep up on the all time rushing yards list.
― The Artist formerly known as Earlnash, Wednesday, 16 September 2026 05:42 (one month ago)
i like joe buck more than most people do, but i don't understand why he gets nearly $1m per game
people watch for the football; no one cares if it's buck or nantz or michaels or tirico or kenny albert as long as the game is good
― mookieproof, Wednesday, 16 September 2026 21:43 (one month ago)
i thought ppl watch for the fastest info about their fantasy stats and prop bets
― viking voyages were all inclusive: leg irons, murdered children (Hunt3r), Wednesday, 16 September 2026 22:43 (one month ago)
i guess there’s probly faster ways
Tom Brady gets even more than that and unlike Buck he's not even all that good at it. Though I admit he's better now than he was in the first year. But yeah I'm baffled by the whole thing, you're not selling the announcers, nobody's watching because of who's calling the game
― frogbs, Wednesday, 16 September 2026 23:03 (one month ago)
Noticed they gave Romo's spot to J.J. Watt. What do you all think of him? I personally rate him with Olsen. Sometimes says inane stuff, but his voice doesn't bug me and he's not as, uh, idiosyncratic as Romo or Brady.
― beard papa, Thursday, 17 September 2026 01:39 (one month ago)
he seems fine but post-romo there's always the question of whether they fall apart the further they get from their playing days
however much brady improves i'll still find his voice annoying
troy aikman is mid at best and constantly utters meaningless shit about 'make(ing) a play' but i still like him because he will absolutely bury a team that fucks up its fundamentals. you can tell that it personally offends him
collinsworth too smug for me, but, again -- if you want to watch a good matchup, you have no choice but to listen to these assholes, so why are they so well-compensated?
― mookieproof, Thursday, 17 September 2026 02:36 (one month ago)
JJ Watt is pretty good. Not as good as Olsen who I think is maybe my favorite but he's fine. I wouldn't mind him replacing Romo. Don't get me wrong I really enjoyed him those first two years when he knew stuff. The obnoxious guy in your living room shtick actually works when you know stuff. Lately I've wondered if he's drunk on air half the time.

My honest to god dream is to have regular ass play by play announcers doing their usual dry ass shit and then fire all the former players and replace them with lottery winners from foreign lands who are genuinely enthusiastic about NFL fubaw and just get excited about things

Do you love touchdowns and interceptions and sacks and 10+ YAC runs? Bring your thick accent to the booth and inundate me with your enthusiasm for this, the worst and yet also the best game
― trm (tombotomod), Thursday, 17 September 2026 06:08 (one month ago)
Absolutely insane quote from Deshaun Watson: "The media expects me to throw 400 yards and 5 TDs every week"
So I looked him up on PFR - he had exactly one game in his career when he accomplished this: 7 years ago against the Falcons. With Cleveland he has yet to have a 300 yard game and only threw for 3 TDs once. Suffice to say he did not come particularly close to either mark in Week 1.
It is absolutely insane that this man was a Week 1 starter. His last good season was in 2020. Since then he has thrown 20 touchdowns total. Not only that but he is coming off a major injury. Even if he was a fan favorite it would be crazy to start the guy. But he's not, in fact everybody hates him for some pretty obvious reasons. I really can't wrap my head around it.

I actually like the Buck/Aikman booth, it’s the best #1 booth in the game. Buck just wore out his welcome on the baseball side of things. Cris Collinsworth drives me the most crazy with "that's the greatest thing" he has ever seen every game.
18 million per is a nice package but hey its Disney.
― Bee OK, Friday, 18 September 2026 05:08 (one month ago)
no one wants to hear it, but buck was good at baseball too
also jim nantz is the smarmiest motherfucker alive. 'hello friends!'
― mookieproof, Friday, 18 September 2026 05:18 (one month ago)
He got better over the years. He was bad at both football and baseball.
Exhibit A: His call of the Red Sox Yankees NLCS from 2004.Exhibit B: His call of the helmet catch and 2007 Super Bowl
By the time he called the Travis Ishikawa home run that sent the Giants to the World Series in 2014 he was good. And he's the best NFL play by play guy out there right now, which 2005 me would be like ... WTF?!
― octobeard, Friday, 18 September 2026 05:27 (one month ago)
I agree, he has some of the best calls in the history of the game but he was jaded towards the end. Joe Davis was a breath of fresh air compared to the last few years of Buck.
― Bee OK, Friday, 18 September 2026 05:39 (one month ago)
I think I was more pissed that he would do a regular season football game over the DLCS, Davis is there throughout and you can tell, he would never give up that for a regular season football game.

rodgers plays like a man scared shitless of getting hit
but then you see what happens when he *does* get hit and it's totally understandable
dude should long ago have retired, but then mcafee wouldn't have him on his show
― mookieproof, Thursday, 24 September 2026 02:35 (one month ago)
that humanizes him a bit for me. he knows he can't take much more. he wasn't exactly afraid of getting hit with GB, in fact one of his issues was that he would never just throw the ball away. maybe because he wanted to keep that completion percentage up but either way he got pancaked quite a bit. fumbled a lot too in the process. but now he looks like his life is flashing before his eyes during every dropback, he wants to get the ball out as quickly as possible which puts so much pressure on his receivers which in turn makes him pissier and pissier. maybe if the line holds up they can quick pass their way to 7-8 wins or it could be a total disaster. McCarthy sure as shit ain't gonna bench him but he might bench himself which would be hilarious
― frogbs, Thursday, 24 September 2026 03:28 (one month ago)
between twilight roffles and darkness rodgers (with a brief spell of kenny pickett lol) it's been a good while since the steelers had a QB whose go-to move wasn't 'instant checkdown'

― mookieproof, Thursday, 24 September 2026 03:51 (one month ago)
idgi either, sure his overall W-L is impressive but he's also had stacked rosters his entire career. when Rodgers or Dak were hurt he had basically zero game plan. he's not exactly the guy you want to rebuild a franchise.
― frogbs, Thursday, 24 September 2026 04:12 (one month ago)
one thing I've pondered lately is, what if Jay Cutler hadn't gotten hurt in the 2010 NFC Championship game? right before the end of the half he got crushed on a deep pass play which took him out for the game. in the second half they brought out Todd Collins who was so bad they replaced him with Caleb Hanie, who wasn't exactly any better. Packers only won by 3, I think if Cutler stayed in the game they probably would've lost. which would mean that Aaron Rodgers would never have made the Super Bowl even once. that might be his whole legacy, I mean even Marino at least made it the one time, and Rodgers is better than Marino. though I think it's pretty likely in that case McCarthy gets canned and who knows what would happen after that.

Looking at the score, I would think that Saints and Raiders game was probably pretty entertaining. Silver vs. gold on the unform color scheme is ace when these teams rarely face.
Mike Golic was doing some radio play by play tonight driving into work, he's pretty good at the color on the game, surprising really. I always kinda dig listening to football on the radio. Kevin Harlan was always the big guy on CBS/Westwood One games and they would have John Riggins doing sideline/3rd announcer. It was boisterous and pretty entertaining.

my dad always turned the TV audio down for steelers games and listened to the radio feed (jack fleming/myron cope), but he particularly hated bob trumpy for his presumed Bengal bias

Bob Trumpy - my dad liked to call him Bob Grumpy. That was a pretty good diss in the 80s.
Note for the non-midwesterners - Chris Collinsworth's first media gig after retirement was with WLW as a replacement for Trumpy's radio show - which I listened to all the time. I always had an opinion on Jim Breech and the Bengals kicking game. I got on the show once when I was like 13 or 14.
― The Artist formerly known as Earlnash, Monday, 28 September 2026 04:11 (one month ago)
Trumpy definitely did not like the Steelers. That dude's playing career pretty much timed with the Steel Curtain rise to power. Trumpy was a pretty good TE as I understood and really one of the first good Bengals players as he started either first or second year of the franchise.
― The Artist formerly known as Earlnash, Monday, 28 September 2026 04:13 (one month ago)
4x ALL PRO - did not remember that Trumpy was 6-6. He was a big dude for his time.
― The Artist formerly known as Earlnash, Monday, 28 September 2026 04:16 (one month ago)
Dave Lapham still going strong on the Bengals radio broadcasts, he has been on there forever.
― The Artist formerly known as Earlnash, Monday, 28 September 2026 04:17 (one month ago)
i was told that trumpy got some important body part broken in a game vs. the steelers?
but i can find no evidence of that
― mookieproof, Monday, 28 September 2026 04:19 (one month ago)
Lapham has been doing radio for the Bengals since 86. I knew he was there in the Icky Shuffle days and was still playing for Cincy when they rocked the stripes and went to the Superbowl the first time.
Bengals were the little brothers that got the crap beat out of them by the Steelers forever. It was a big deal I know back in 81 when they went to the Superbowl as I think that was the first time EVER they swept Pittsburgh in a season (if I remembering right...I watched them and the Bears every week).
― The Artist formerly known as Earlnash, Monday, 28 September 2026 04:21 (one month ago)
There was ALOT of Bengals fans that were pi$$ed in the 80s when the Colts moved to Indy as when that happened - Cincy games disappeared on TV and they were popular in those days and the Colts sucked.
― The Artist formerly known as Earlnash, Monday, 28 September 2026 04:23 (one month ago)
Sam Wyche Bengals vs. Jerry Glanville Oilers was must watch TV back in the day.
As much as the Bengals don't like the Steelers, they really hate the Browns and those are some of the wackiest games ever. THere is always some weird crazy sh1t that would happen in those games back in the day.

I had a magnet set similar, but they were molded rubberish football helmets and they had sheet that you put on the fridge where you could put them in order each division.
There was a baseball one we had too and I found a couple of the magnets with the old Texas Rangers and Pirates logo in a toolbox of my dads.

Browns got the Jets, so this might continue. Their schedule looks workable for a shot at .500 for the year with already 3 wins in hand.
Their D is good enough, if Cleveland does not turn over the ball, they could hang around in some games and keep winning ugly.
Browns fans are pretty long suffering, but having Watson around is just a drag.
Steelers are in need of a real rebuild. They really have not been this shaky since the last couple of years before Cowher took over the team, which was a long time ago at this point.
― The Artist formerly known as Earlnash, Friday, 2 October 2026 04:03 (one month ago)
Cleveland is actually pretty good at basically every position but QB
I know Watson's put up decent stats the last few games but if you actually watch him, he still sucks. misses wide open throws, takes sacks when he really shouldn't, often careless with the ball, I think this redemption arc is not gonna last long

Tony Romo done at CBS
https://www.sportsmediawatch.com/2026/10/tony-romo-leaving-cbs-mutually-parts-ways/
The Tony Romo era at CBS is over.
CBS announced Friday that it has agreed to “mutually part ways” with its lead NFL analyst Tony Romo, ending a nine-year tenure that began with widespread acclaim and a record contract, but ultimately collapsed under the weight of his shortcomings in and outside of the broadcast booth. Romo had been on a leave of absence after being arrested for OWI in Wisconsin over the summer.
― Bee OK, Friday, 2 October 2026 17:20 (one month ago)
xp yeah the McCarthy hire is a real head scratcher. Rodgers is done this year and unlikely making the post season. Yet they'll likely be picking 8-10 in the draft.
They're going to be pretty bad for a long time unless they really clean house and take a risk on a younger coach. Seattle and Chicago are showing you how to do it right.

― mookieproof, Monday, 5 October 2026 02:20 (one month ago)
I have no particular interest in either team, but I did watch it up until a few minutes ago. To my eyes, the whole difference in the game was Bryce Young consistently throwing pinpoint passes in the last couple tenths of a second before the Lions defense was able to touch him. It was his night to shine. He seemed jubilant whenever the camera showed him after yet another completion. When QB is on fire like that, what can you do?

Bryce Young at times was crazy accurate at Alabama. Those teams he was on was not the earlier juggernaut Crimson Tide teams, Young would often seem to be running for his life and then make some crazy throw or play.

Niners losing two more dudes to injury on offense ... Deebo's hammy is probably going to have him out for a couple months, Cowing with an ankle injury, yet somehow without either they drive 75 yards for a TD on the only drive of the game to go the distance for a TD. My goodness

I could see them losing to the Raiders and Commanders. They seem mentally off and McVay is not coaching a great season so far, his play calling is atrocious.
And who is going to be their kicker now? Moody?
― octobeard, Monday, 19 October 2026 05:28 (two weeks ago)
I will admit that the Raiders are not pushovers this year, that was gut reaction.
― Bee OK, Monday, 19 October 2026 05:33 (two weeks ago)
I don't know if its McVay or Stafford, as the QB looks old. They are barley losing but losing nonetheless. Kickers are easy to replace but will be the third one in as many weeks.
― Bee OK, Monday, 19 October 2026 05:37 (two weeks ago)
They should have beaten the Broncos, Bills and Cardinals. The only game they had no chance in was the 49ers in Australia
Should have, could have, would have ect

I can’t stress enough how much telling someone with a blood clot not to sleep is not a real thing doctors do
― k3vin k., Monday, 19 October 2026 16:30 (two weeks ago)
so what do you think is happening here?
― frogbs, Monday, 19 October 2026 16:56 (two weeks ago)
I think the narrative that we’ve finally been given seems plausible. superficial thrombosis -> DVT -> PE. unless someone is symptomatic, we generally don’t investigate for PE in patients with DVT since the treatment is the same, though VIPs often get extra diagnostics like this
in terms of staying awake all night, I can only assume something is being lost in translation here, like he was just up all night because he was undergoing tests
― k3vin k., Monday, 19 October 2026 17:02 (two weeks ago)
is this similar to what forced Chris Bosh into early retirement?
― frogbs, Monday, 19 October 2026 20:41 (two weeks ago)
he had a pulmonary embolism too yeah. I don’t recall his exact circumstances off the top of my head, but I assume his were recurrent. generally the treatment for a first time event when the cause is known is blood thinners for 3-6 months. if it’s recurrent you often need to be on them lifelong
― k3vin k., Monday, 19 October 2026 21:05 (two weeks ago)
His agent has since said that that wasn’t true.
The coach was then deliberately asked why Hurts was allowed to fly home despite being diagnosed with a superficial blood clot. A testy exchange with a Philadelphia Inquirer reporter ensued."We've put out a statement – we've put out multiple statements – for you guys to hear," said Sirianni, adding that he would not address the topic further.Forthrightness evaded Sirianni again when he was asked who, specifically on the medical staff, was part of the pregame conversations regarding Hurts' availability."I understand that you want this information on this," Sirianni said. "I fully trust the people that are involved in helping us all make these decisions. And we have great people here."He pointed out that the medical and training staff include the same individuals that helped the Eagles stay healthy in 2024, which included 21 of 22 Week 1 starters playing in the Super Bowl en route to the organization's Super Bowl 59 victory. Once again, Sirianni said players' health at forefront of the organization's mind. He said his relationships with the players are special because of the care they all have for each other.

I mean I get that he’s not a doctor and he might not feel comfortable commenting but a horrific health scare and avoidable risk for one of the best players in the game probably deserves better than “I don’t want to address it further”.
― bruich, a stór (gyac), Monday, 19 October 2026 21:35 (two weeks ago)
if that’s the case, as someone who has treated hundreds of patients a year in the hospital with blood clots in the legs, lungs, and elsewhere, there is no rational explanation for this. and at the time, the clot was in a superficial vein!
― k3vin k., Monday, 19 October 2026 22:32 (two weeks ago)
Wemby recently experienced this and came back to reach the finals with no issues. Hope that's the case with Hurts.
But damn if there doesn't seem to be more here with regards to communication, this is a mess
― octobeard, Monday, 19 October 2026 22:39 (two weeks ago)
To the degree I’d give anybody any sympathy here, and I really couldn’t give a shit less about Sirianni’s rep, but the guy probably has absolutely no idea what he’s talking about wrt how a body works, and doesn’t even know what questions to ask of the staff. He might be familiar with a handful of bones, ligaments, and tendons in a few spots, and he should absolutely know concussions from a hole in the ground, but I can kinda understand him sounding like an ignoramus about this
― trm (tombotomod), Monday, 19 October 2026 23:55 (two weeks ago)
yeah sirianni deserves little blame for the medical side of things. starting a QB who hadn’t slept in 36 hours, might be something there. anyway he sucks as a HC and should be fired anyway
― k3vin k., Tuesday, 20 October 2026 00:11 (two weeks ago)
“This guy who hasn’t slept in a day and a half is still our best chance to win” is indeed mind blowing but Sirianni, like a lot of his peers, probably operates on a frightening sleep deficit throughout the season and might be like whatevs dude that’s not such a stretch
― trm (tombotomod), Tuesday, 20 October 2026 00:28 (two weeks ago)
I think the main challenge that comes with deciding to fire an HC is the incredibly shallow pool of twisted obsessives who want the job and are qualified in any way
― trm (tombotomod), Tuesday, 20 October 2026 00:30 (two weeks ago)
As k3vin said, from a medical point of view it's obvious that Hurts should never have been allowed to play that game.
For however long he needs to stay on anticoagulants he cannot play in the future.
― Dan S, Tuesday, 20 October 2026 00:47 (two weeks ago)
i know much less than k3vin but having had a PE (in one lung, not both) this is all incredible
i finally called 911 when simply rolling over in bed left me out of breath. absolutely no way someone could play football in that situation. nor did anyone ever (thank god) tell me to stay awake. i still take blood thinners six years later.
― mookieproof, Tuesday, 20 October 2026 02:37 (two weeks ago)
the thing is that once this was a DVT or PE, the management is clear — he can’t play
what I still need to understand is the management of the superficial thrombosis (can’t sleep?), allowing him to play on no sleep, and then the decision to let him fly to the states with all this going on. none of it makes sense
― k3vin k., Tuesday, 20 October 2026 02:48 (two weeks ago)
patients have a right to choose their outcomes I guess
― trm (tombotomod), Tuesday, 20 October 2026 02:54 (two weeks ago)
nfl concussion spotters, however feeble their powers are, suggest otherwise
― mookieproof, Tuesday, 20 October 2026 03:14 (two weeks ago)
dont think you can fire Sirianni midseason because the division is still in play, even without Hurts they may be the best team in the East. but yea after that they gotta cut him loose, that team needs to be shaken up
― frogbs, Tuesday, 20 October 2026 04:50 (two weeks ago)
i trust howie is going to see reason. there’s nothing to fight for this season, supposedly a very strong draft next year, time to sell
― k3vin k., Tuesday, 20 October 2026 04:53 (two weeks ago)
the division may or may not still be in play but c'mon
they have no quarterback and no offensive line; they're going nowhere
― mookieproof, Tuesday, 20 October 2026 04:56 (two weeks ago)
as has been noted elsewhere this is a team that's won two super bowls in the last decade and been largely competitive
yet they are setting records for the most rancid vibes possible
i'm more than happy to shit on philly and its fans but there seems to be something else going on
― mookieproof, Tuesday, 20 October 2026 05:02 (two weeks ago)
yeah there is no semblance of hope, no silver lining to anything this year. the injuries have obv been biblical but there’s been nothing to suggest the coaching has been putting them in the best position either. clean house, sell anything that’s not nailed down, and reload
― k3vin k., Tuesday, 20 October 2026 05:05 (two weeks ago)
tbf at least they didn't hire a terrible coach in an effort to re-sign a 42yo has-been quarterback

― symsymsym, Monday, 26 October 2026 00:52 (one week ago)
yeah deeply frustrating, so many dropped passes by GB (interceptions and a TD), two missed chip shot field goals, a neutral zone infraction which iced the game for Detroit, numerous insane, inexplicable calls completely changing the flow of the game...even Brady was calling them out. Detroit didn't exactly play a tight game either

Why did the Panthers go for 2 as now they're down 8.
― Bee OK, Friday, 30 October 2026 03:10 (one week ago)
you're supposed to do that.
assuming it's a 50/50 shot, if you get it the next possession you score a TD and kick an XP to win. if not you go for 2 again, a 50/50 shot at tying, then a 50/50 shot of winning in OT. its a longshot but anything on top of the original 50/50 is a bonus. that is assuming things go as planned...you get the stop and then score a TD with 0 on the clock

with QBs getting injured left and right you might think that smart teams would be better off putting more $$ into a great defense and a strong running game than unbalancing their payroll by paying sky high salaries to QBs and WRs.

The Chargers are a mess and do wonder how long Jim Harbaugh will have his job. That was unthinkable at the beginning of this season.
― Bee OK, Monday, 2 November 2026 21:04 (six days ago)
It's their worst start since 2000 when they went 1-15. Expectations were high for a team that went 11-6 in consecutive seasons without winning a playoff game who just "upgraded" their offensive coordinator. It's an unmitigated disaster that often is something you can't come back from without cleaning house.
It's wildly uncharacteristic of Harbaugh too, but perhaps he's finally cooked. His unhinged support and complements of Herbert to the point of weird obsession always had a weird look. Can't go back to college. He might be done. However he's expensive, he's owed over $30MM after this season in total if my calculations are correct. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they try and keep him for one more season, but if they end up winning fewer than 4 games, maybe not?
I'll also die on the hill that Herbert is a very "mid" qb too, someone who slots slightly below Kirk Cousins. He has great physical tools and can make most throws, but dude can't read defenses for shit and isn't super clutch at all. He's part of the problem and no one wants to admit it

― omar little, Tuesday, 3 November 2026 17:27 (five days ago)
its looking quite a bit like the 2009-2011 Packers, incredible offense + superstar quarterback + a couple key pickups on defense. funny how everyone was like, whoa, the Bears may be insane this year after they scored 59 in Week 1, only to see them score 3 in Week 2 and go, "ahh, it was a fluke"...apparently Week 2 was the fluke
― frogbs, Tuesday, 3 November 2026 17:54 (five days ago)
considering that the best Bears QB season of my lifetime is possibly Erik Kramer's 1995 season, i'm not used to even the possibility of having a long-term excellent starter at that position. we're a fanbase that got excited about Kyle Orton ffs.
― omar little, Tuesday, 3 November 2026 18:13 (five days ago)
Yeah if they keep this up it's a Niners Bears NFC Championship
― octobeard, Tuesday, 3 November 2026 19:33 (five days ago)
And yeah Caleb is that dude. He's up there with Purdy and Burrow as next gen upper echelon, but not quite top top qbs (I still put them behind the Allen/Lamar/Mahomes trifecta, but not by much). True franchise guy and Ben Johnson is that coach. Hope he stays in Chicago for a long time - fans deserve some success

― Never mind the tulips, here come the sex pistils (Neanderthal), Tuesday, 3 November 2026 19:40 (five days ago)
i'm genuinely not sure who I even believe in this year as a 'good' team.
the Bears are one. with Caleb they are hard to stop, and their defense isn't a classic Bears D but it's improved since Week 1.
still think the 9ers are another, just are terribly depleted with injuries.
Bills have a really banged up defense and were fortunate to play a practically QB-less Ravens team, but their offense is probably the best it's ever been in the Allen era, so they're still fairly scary.
Vikings would have been a SB contender in that 2000-2001 NFL where few teams had competent offenses, but their limitations showed up against Detroit.
Chiefs have their offensive swagger back this year and looked dangerous and then dropped 2 straight, despite getting to the goal line against the Broncos and looking like victory imminent.
Broncos, well....Bo Nix has to have more games like the Chiefs performance to be considered any kind of scary.
Jaguars might be that dark horse team that surprises people.
other than that, every other team ranges from 'above average but flawed' to 'abject shit' (like my Dolphins).
― Never mind the tulips, here come the sex pistils (Neanderthal), Tuesday, 3 November 2026 19:49 (five days ago)
I love how everyone is underestimating the Rams. As long as Stafford elbow is fine then they will be a hard out. They're getting over their easy part of the schedule but they will be a force with these high profile games coming up.
― Bee OK, Tuesday, 3 November 2026 20:05 (five days ago)
Nix is a game manager type QB, more efficient than scary. But that was Joe Montana's MO, too. The question needs to be how well does Nix/Sean Payton measure up to Montana/Bill Walsh?
― more difficult than I look (Aimless), Tuesday, 3 November 2026 20:06 (five days ago)
The only stupid loss was against the Cardinals but they played against their old coach from last year, it won't happen again.
― Bee OK, Tuesday, 3 November 2026 20:07 (five days ago)
Rams are upper mid but mid and old, and still flawed.
And some of this is on McVay but when your coach is part of the problem that makes it worse.
There's a real chance they miss the playoffs given Seattle and the top 3 NFC North teams talent
― octobeard, Tuesday, 3 November 2026 20:11 (five days ago)

Chris Gallant is a handsome firefighter and helicopter pilot who came out of nowhere to run for the NY-1 congressional district on the Eastern end of Long Island. He's a hot gay guy and had a 'sex scandal' by posing for X-rated photos for Mr. S. Leather in SF years ago. He didn’t apologize for it but celebrated it. It was a sex scandal where nobody was harmed. He drew more people to his campaign because of it and came close to winning in Nassau County and the Hamptons, a super-rich Republican stronghold represented by Nick LaLota! I think he has a future in politics
