i think the pats have a pretty good shot at running the table this year. they haven't allowed more than 17 points in any of their games and are something like 4th in the league in points allowed. check out their schedule for the rest of the year:

there's only one game that i wouldn't consider a gimme (the bears), and that still shouldn't be too hard @ home around thanksgiving. minn's defense is pretty good but that's about it; jax was a punching bag to them last year and that's when they were a playoff team, nevermind now that half their best defensive players are on IR; as for indy... lol. pats are gonna be 14-2 unless tom brady contracts GRIDS before the end of the season. their only concern rn is whether or not they have to face denver in the playoffs, which leads me toooooo...

i honestly like the pats chances. their schedule is a cake walk the rest of the way so if they could play the colts or chargers at home in january i'd take them in a heartbeat. peyton's track record being what it is in big games and marty schottenheimer being the tactical equivelant of an ice cream headache make me feel pretty good about the chances for the p-men.

Their schedule might be a cake walk but they've already got one more loss than the Colts do so I wouldn't necessarily assume this status will not remain exactly the same throughout the rest of the season, especially since they're going to win their division without even trying--tends to make a team a teensy bit sloppy towards end of season cf Colts last year. So, I'm saying I wouldn't assume they would be playing at home versus either of those teams.

pats d is better, they're only allowing 13.3 ppg, a td and extra point less per game than indy. indy also seems to have problems stopping the run as evidenced by the 948 yards they've surrendered on the ground. that's almost twice the 503 yards the pats have given up. if it comes down to a big game i'll always take the brady/bruschi/belicheck triumverate over manning and his hang-dog, "what the heck just happened did i blow another big game?" face.

The NFL is so even steven these days, I don't have a clue. If it ends up being the Colts, Bengals or Bears, I'm fine with it. The rest of the league can go huff glue.

I just cannot believe my hatred of the rest of the NFC East has me pulling for the Giants in games. I respected the LT, but I freakin' hated the NYG back in the Parcells days. Other than L.T., they were about the most boring good team ever in the NFL. Run the ball left, run the ball right, punt... over and freakin over.

I also like the Viks a bit this year.

I just want the Eagles, Cowboys, Steelers and Skins to all miss the playoffs and I will be happy.

I'm also kind of liking old boy in Miami get his comeuppance with the Dolphins being completely crap. I don't like when tv commentators start calling a coach a "genius" before his team has won diddley crap. LSU is fine, but you know that is the SEC, that is only "kind of like" pro football.

It must be tough being a die hard Cleveland Brown fan these days. The owner steals the team and for joy they come back as the worse team in football.

The Giants are exciting to watch because of all the times Eli throws to Toomer in triple coverage for no good reason. Eli is kind of cinematic with the sheer number of powerfully telegraphed mistakes he makes and gets away with in the end. the pats are switching over from natural grass to field turf as they couldn't keep the grass alive in their state of the art stadium. apparently it came as a shock that it sometimes gets cold in new england between september and january and grass goes dormant.

SO NOW WHAT. I am actually feeling good at NEW YORK JETS making a run for division. Baltimore, Indy, Hippies are the pix to win their division, either NYJ or NE obviously (loser of that battle is wildcard) with SD as wildcard. And yes, I am openly predicting that SD will find a way to fuck up the fact that they and Denver are tied right now.

NFC is much easier, Giants, New Orleans, Seattle, Chicago barring teams dying in a horrible plane accident or something. Philly & Atlanta as tentative wildcards though I am wondering if GB will make some kind of last ditch run and make it on the basis of Philly & Atlanta sucking so badly.

Well, for one thing, San Diego plays Denver twice, and their defense is in shambles right now. That would be a solid way to fuck things up. But if Denver is going to keep playing down to their competition, I don't think it will matter much.

That's what I meant though, Denver is kind of playing like sloppy douches right now, and SD COULD beat them despite the unlikelihood on paper. I just think SD will figure out a way to lose, even if Denver plays shitty.
