the Pats' running game looked like it might be the one to finally break the postseason Colts D, but then they held them to 93 yards after all. This still isn't making a lot of sense to me! Ours is kind of a garden apt? Like it is not completely basement level. But whatever, it is cold and doesn't get very good light. Virgil Ogletree, onetime high-flying king of the numbers racket in Cleveland, died last week in a Cedar Avenue apartment.

Ogletree, 84, who once wore the finest clothes behind the wheel of his custom Cadillac and jetted off to vacation spots around the world, had lost so much money by his most recent arrest in 2003 that the court declared him indigent and appointed a lawyer for him.

He escaped jail without a trial because of Alzheimer's disease. Relatives cared for him while he lived in an apartment near East 70th Street and Cedar Avenue.

At his height, he was one of a handful of Cleveland powers in the numbers games, the black-market predecessor to the Ohio Lottery.

Typically taking in $20,000 in bets daily with 40 to 50 runners working for him, he was friendly with fellow numbers magnate and later boxing promoter Don King.

"Don King and the others, they had business," said Ogletree's longtime lawyer and friend James Willis, who often represented the other major players, too. "But I don't think it was as large as his. Virgil Ogletree made as much money, if not more money, booking the numbers than anybody ever did in the state of Ohio.

"But he wasted a lot of it, burned it up, loaned it to people, gave it away.

"Any way you can screw up a lot of money, he did it."

Police and FBI and IRS agents have confirmed most of what Willis said, but often in the form of court filings while pursuing charges against him. In addition to contending with gambling charges, Ogletree faced a string of other complaints, ranging from evading taxes to selling drugs to trying to expand his racket into Atlanta.

He went to prison twice - for gambling charges in Atlanta and for drug sales in Cleveland - and was constantly fending off other criminal charges.

I just don't understand that thread at all, between British people not having servers (which is a lie, they do, BUT NOT IN PUBS, no one on that thread seems to understand that pubs are a different thing than traditional US bars, or even US versions of pubs) and tipping (they don't seem to get that they still pay for the person's wages in the end? Because their beers cost more in my experience?) and then jaymc being completely unable to comprehend that one must order from a waitress when sitting at a table is just like ARGH WHO ARE YOU PEOPLE, WHO ARE YOU ALL and I know most of you are lovely people WHY SO CRAZY?

Though jaymc not understanding the concept of waiters is way more tolerable than jaymc suddenly announcing all of his research on alex p on a thread creepy-style yesterday, between him and LJ doing his "thing" on that thread I was like whoa I need to just go home and get away from my terrible, terrible job and it's internet.

I don't like Peyton Manning. I didn't like him at Tennessee. I don't like the way he whines out audibles at the line of scrimmage. I don't like his hissy little pouts.

I'm not crazy about Indianapolis. I don't like Reggie Miller, Jared Fogle, or the Watson's Girl. And it was mighty pussy of the Colts to leave Baltimore in teh dead of night all those years ago.

I'm not a huge Chicago guy, but I hope they win. I admit that there's a small part of me that, like aids, wouldn't mind if the whole WILL PEYTON WIN THE BIG ONE talk was dead after this weekend. And I also would like to see Tony Dungy lifting up the trophy, especially since he deserves a ring from Super Bowl XXXVII and after his tragedy last season. The Super Bowl is always mainly terrible. The Gatorade "surprise", the lack of OMG-I-can't-believe-we-did-it leg-humping excitement on the part of the winning team when the final whistle blows (compared with baseball or basketball or even tennis FFS), the cringeworthy congratulations exchanged between coaches (Emma B: "whaaaat? that's so lame! Why would they want to do that?"). The only good Super Bowl I can remember seeing was that one where ~~the Oilers~~ Tennessee got a half yard from winning it on the last play of the game.

1) against all conventional "wisdom" the rain actually hurts the smashmouth bears more than the "flashy" colts

I think if the coaches really get to challenge they should have to do a little tap-dance and then at the end say "CHALLENGE!" to the ref.

Seriously, the game was, at the very least, pretty hilarious--rain on super bowl is sweet! It was also decently tight before Grossman just completely lost his shit, at which point everything he did was hilarious so win-win!

I lost 4 dollars on the game so the Bears losing wasn't a big deal and the rain was great but there was no mud :-/ that must have been some tough turf.

Grossman winging hail marys down the field was emabarrassing but the KEY TO GAME was the Colts 34 minute drive to start the 3rd quarter. I swear the Colts pull a drive like that every game.
