rashard choice 4 heisman imo

cankles, Monday, 20 August 2007 12:13 (eighteen years ago)

um, that's disturbing.

w/o doing more reading on the upcoming season, all i have to say is jasper and casper brinkley.

j.q higgins, Monday, 20 August 2007 15:13 (eighteen years ago)

The thing is McFadden's to lose, I think.

polyphonic, Monday, 20 August 2007 18:36 (eighteen years ago)

do people use this thread w/ regular frequency during the season?

if so, i will be drumming up much conversation about my beloved miami hurricanes.

plz do jordan there is not enuff ncaa talk on here! not that i am helping lol~

cankles, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 18:41 (eighteen years ago)

i am somehow in a pick'em pool even though the team i follow most closely(read: can name more than one player on) is the uconn football huskies...in other words, tell me whose gonna cover them spreads this week!--or, insert joek about phil fullmer being fat.

johnny crunch, Thursday, 30 August 2007 02:41 (eighteen years ago)

ok real talk time.

am i the only one wholly unsold on usc being a unanimous, runaway number 1? i have no logic (as of right now) to back this up, just a gut feeling that this may be the year something srsly funky goes down w/r/t the national title.

i mean lsu has managed to blow national title predictions every year since they last won it, and something about john david booty seems... off to me.

basically i'm saying, i'd bet my right foot that the national title won't be usc-lsu, which seems to be the general consensus of about 85% of college football writers/prognosticators.

Jordan Sargent, Thursday, 30 August 2007 06:20 (eighteen years ago)

Longhorns are a sleeping giant. Just wait. And I'm not even a Texas fan or anything.

Likewise, I think the strengths of West VA outnumber the weaknesses by a great deal.

This year, it's gonna be Big 12 vs. Big East for the trophy.

Florida won't repeat a national title win, but they might beat LSU in the SEC title game. Iffy defense (and loose cannon QB) will be the x-factor. There won't be an undefeated SEC team this year, though. The field's levelling off all over the conference.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 30 August 2007 06:46 (eighteen years ago)

The result of Saturday's Cal/Tennessee game will determine whether or not I pay attention to college football this year. I am a shameless "I only care about college football when my team is good" asshole.

polyphonic, Thursday, 30 August 2007 17:57 (eighteen years ago)

LSU had some problems in last night's game. Probably nothing they can't overcome as the season progresses, but MSU (MSU!!!) held them to 3 points for almost all of the first half.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 31 August 2007 17:13 (eighteen years ago)

i was stoked about tech last year and, well, we know how that turned out. i just wanna see them beat GA :[

cankles, Friday, 31 August 2007 19:20 (eighteen years ago)

A bunch of analysis hacks have boners for GA this year, but I won't be convinced until I see proof.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 31 August 2007 21:09 (eighteen years ago)

yeah i think stafford's development is prob the most interesting thing happening there. i still root for GA against other teams, but i always liked tech more cuz they're actually in atlanta, uga always felt so distant 2 me~ (cooler unis tho)

(polyphonic i am exactly the same btw)

cankles, Friday, 31 August 2007 22:09 (eighteen years ago)

i mean LSU isn't typically an offensive juggernaut.

Jordan Sargent, Friday, 31 August 2007 23:16 (eighteen years ago)

and tho it was against a DII team (or whatever), louisville looked mildly terrifying last night.

Jordan Sargent, Friday, 31 August 2007 23:17 (eighteen years ago)

T-30 minutes til another terrible UW Huskies season. The line says +3 versus Syracuse tonight but I don't believe it.

jergïns, Friday, 31 August 2007 23:22 (eighteen years ago)

Just so everyone's aware, I'm the annoying Tide fan that pisses in everyone's punch every year. Brace yourselves for a lot of "Saban is God" and "the countdown to a 2009 national title starts now" stuff.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 31 August 2007 23:39 (eighteen years ago)

nick saban is a v. wanted man in my hometown.

Jordan Sargent, Friday, 31 August 2007 23:56 (eighteen years ago)

Fuck the Big Ten Network. So the only way to see Ohio State's non-conference schedule is to subscribe to Direct TV? unbelievable

brownie, Saturday, 1 September 2007 15:42 (eighteen years ago)

oh, it's also available on AT&T's U-verse(?) . Why not just show it on Space Shuttle flights?

brownie, Saturday, 1 September 2007 16:01 (eighteen years ago)

Jordan Sargent, Saturday, 1 September 2007 16:01 (eighteen years ago)

Jordan Sargent, Saturday, 1 September 2007 16:01 (eighteen years ago)

also huge lolz @ espnu for putting larry coker on the miami/marshall game.

Jordan Sargent, Saturday, 1 September 2007 16:08 (eighteen years ago)

this is almost unlistenable.

Jordan Sargent, Saturday, 1 September 2007 16:08 (eighteen years ago)

like, a miami drive just stalled in the redzone and coker goes "this is miami's problem. when they get into the redzone, they just have trouble scoring."

THAT'S BECAUSE YOU WERE THE FUCKING COACH.

Jordan Sargent, Saturday, 1 September 2007 16:12 (eighteen years ago)

Whoa what if Appalachian State beats Michigan.

polyphonic, Saturday, 1 September 2007 18:37 (eighteen years ago)

polyphonic, Sunday, 2 September 2007 07:04 (eighteen years ago)

After watching the games on Saturday, I think Call has a shot at beating SC. Their offense is scary good.

leavethecapital, Sunday, 2 September 2007 16:13 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah but the defense isn't that great. Tennessee didn't even try to throw it down the field. I'm happy about the win and feeling pretty optimistic, but USC is a much better team than Tennessee.

polyphonic, Sunday, 2 September 2007 16:49 (eighteen years ago)

My guess is that the "Draft Gruden" signs are coming out again on campus today at Notre Dame.

cankles, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 13:16 (eighteen years ago)

That last blocked kick in that Appalachian State/Michigan game is a thing of beauty. Next time you watch that clip, check out the vertical lift on the entire left side of the line. Even beyond the guy that got the kick, those guys were throwing everything to get up on that ball.

Appalachian State's last two games against DIV I games were both competitive. I think the last game they lost was to Maryland and it was only by either 10 or 13 points. Their QB definitely can fly and will be someone that I think the pros will check out, at least to play at another position.

earlnash, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 23:19 (eighteen years ago)

Will somebody please tell me why the FUCK did Appalachian State kick the field goal on first down with 36 seconds left??? Nobody is talking about this!!

Mr. Snrub, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 02:40 (eighteen years ago)

i know they were out of TOs...don't know how many mich had, could app have run plays, forced UM to blow some, whatever...yeah, if that had cost them the game it wouldve sucked..

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 02:49 (eighteen years ago)

i'm going to oklahoma this weekend to see miami v. oklahoma.
no one is talking about this game. FUCK PENN ST. AND NOTRE DAME. FUCK TCU AND TEXAS.
anyway, i'm getting v. fearful of oklahoma steamrolling us. 79 points against north texas is still 79 points.

Jordan Sargent, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 05:55 (eighteen years ago)

how sweet? either michoakan or notre dame will be 0-3 next week! wonderful.

j.q higgins, Monday, 10 September 2007 14:55 (eighteen years ago)

ok so notre dame is the worst team I've ever seen play football. they are Indiana bad. Touchdown jesus cries bitter tears ;_:

thing is, I like Notre Dame.

brownie, Sunday, 16 September 2007 02:10 (eighteen years ago)

My dad tells the story of the time that Notre Dame and Michigan were playing on TV, back in the late '40's or early '50's. My grandfather didn't own a TV at the time so he decided to buy one, simply to watch them play. It cost something like $500, which is 5,000,000,000.00 in todays money.

Back to the present, looking at the spread for today's game it was the LOCK OF THE WEEK.

brownie, Sunday, 16 September 2007 02:18 (eighteen years ago)

omg, anyone here remember the Sunday playback of the Notre Dame football game back in the 70's, where they only showed ND's scoring drives? It was a post church viewing experience along with Laurel & Hardy and Wrestling (Bobo Brazil vs. the Sheik). RIP

brownie, Sunday, 16 September 2007 02:30 (eighteen years ago)

louisville vs. syracuse tomorrow! first college game i've been to in who knows how long!

hstencil, Friday, 21 September 2007 20:26 (eighteen years ago)

bc has army this week, total trap game. bc's run game is suspect and army's 7th in the nation in pass defense (something like 116 ypg?). hope matt ryan can stay healthy.

chicago kevin, Friday, 21 September 2007 23:07 (eighteen years ago)

ok, for the second time in two weeks i've seen the same kid on the high school football highlights. i still didn't catch his name but he plays for mount carmel high in chicago and both times i've seen him he's been by far the fastest player on the field, it's not even close. when you see linebackers and dbacks taking what should be the correct angle but just getting beaten to the spot by the running back it's kind of fun to watch. i've got to find out who this kid is and where he's going next year.

hopefully not stateville or joliet.

chicago kevin, Saturday, 22 September 2007 03:31 (eighteen years ago)

hi, louisville is the worst college football team in the entire fucking country.

hstencil, Saturday, 22 September 2007 20:31 (eighteen years ago)

What happened to them? Jeezus!

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 22 September 2007 20:46 (eighteen years ago)

chicago kevin, Saturday, 22 September 2007 20:48 (eighteen years ago)

hstencil, Saturday, 22 September 2007 21:13 (eighteen years ago)

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 22 September 2007 21:30 (eighteen years ago)

i think that was a wince.

matt ryan was over 350 yeards for the third time in four games.

chicago kevin, Sunday, 23 September 2007 01:37 (eighteen years ago)

D'OH! The Saban honeymoon is over (but the marriage is still amiable).

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 23 September 2007 03:31 (eighteen years ago)

can't blame saban for a pretty great play. it wasn't a matter of the dude not being defended, either.

but yeah anyway lol @ tide.

hstencil, Sunday, 23 September 2007 03:52 (eighteen years ago)

Oh yeah, it's not Saban's fault. I'm just saying the citizens of T-Town might now realize he's a man and not a god.

lol @ cards.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 23 September 2007 04:01 (eighteen years ago)

hstencil, Sunday, 23 September 2007 04:29 (eighteen years ago)

Notre Dame are losing AGAIN, this time to Purdue. Will they win a game this year?

polyphonic, Saturday, 29 September 2007 17:05 (eighteen years ago)

I'm not sure they will.

Maybe they should play Div. II schools next year?

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 29 September 2007 17:16 (eighteen years ago)

I think they should probably beat Duke, Navy and Stanford, but the rest of the schedule looks pretty tough.

polyphonic, Saturday, 29 September 2007 17:24 (eighteen years ago)

they should beat duke. navy might be tough for them (seriously), are they playing stanford in south bend?

chicago kevin, Saturday, 29 September 2007 17:26 (eighteen years ago)

chicago kevin, Sunday, 30 September 2007 01:00 (eighteen years ago)

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 30 September 2007 01:01 (eighteen years ago)

Why KU is getting more votes in the coaches' poll than Kansas State is beyond me. I guess we'll settle this next week the old-fashioned way.

Euler, Monday, 1 October 2007 01:52 (eighteen years ago)

the turnover in the top 10 this week pretty much shows exactly why the championship should be decided via playoff. the voters don't know shit.

chicago kevin, Monday, 1 October 2007 02:19 (eighteen years ago)

If every conference just had a playoff like some of them do, national playoffs wouldn't take very long and polls wouldn't even be necessary.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 1 October 2007 02:27 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, after #1 and #2 the rankings are complete guesswork.

brownie, Sunday, 7 October 2007 02:49 (eighteen years ago)

I guess KU proved the coaches poll right. Bleh.

The LSU game was pretty awesome, though. In the first half, Tebow looked godlike. In the second, he looked like a college qb.

Euler, Sunday, 7 October 2007 16:07 (eighteen years ago)

chicago kevin, Saturday, 13 October 2007 19:37 (eighteen years ago)

Two years from now every NFL team would be smart to pass on Tebow. How many big name Florida quarterbacks get drafted in the early rounds and then proceed to suck royally? Love to watch Tebow now though. He plays quarterback like an insane linebacker.

leavethecapital, Saturday, 13 October 2007 21:45 (eighteen years ago)

wow, bc is doing their best to keep notre dame in the game. ill-timed penalties then ryan throws a pick deep in his own territory that's returned for a td.

chicago kevin, Saturday, 13 October 2007 22:12 (eighteen years ago)

look at rocket isamil!!! he's fucking baked!!!!!

chicago kevin, Saturday, 13 October 2007 22:29 (eighteen years ago)

chicago kevin, Saturday, 13 October 2007 22:29 (eighteen years ago)

notre dame is apparently operating under the assumption that the running back is an ineligible receiver. with 13 and a half minutes to go he's got 10 catches for over 90 yards.

chicago kevin, Saturday, 13 October 2007 22:53 (eighteen years ago)

that is, if bc is your team, i have no idea.

hstencil, Saturday, 13 October 2007 23:48 (eighteen years ago)

UK/LSU...wot a game.

UK's reward for beating LSU is that they get Florida next weekend. The SEC is definitely deep this year.

earlnash, Sunday, 14 October 2007 03:18 (eighteen years ago)

louisville beat cincinnati! top 25 here we come! er...

hstencil, Sunday, 14 October 2007 04:06 (eighteen years ago)

holy crap, cal lost. 1 & 2 both lost. bc at #2 behind ohio st.?

chicago kevin, Sunday, 14 October 2007 04:31 (eighteen years ago)

Cal lost?! I cut the football watching after the UK/LSU game, but damn...does the Top 25 even have any worth this year? The championship might be ACC and Big East this year, ffs.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 14 October 2007 05:02 (eighteen years ago)

i think it's been so long since bc faced a GOOD football team they're gonna get shanked by virginia tech. tech's a good team and bc hasn't played anyone decent since week 3.

chicago kevin, Sunday, 14 October 2007 05:03 (eighteen years ago)

the top 25 poll looks like something from the 7th year of a dynasty on NCAA Football 2005. where do we stand on this season? is the hyper-parity good or bad?

Jordan Sargent, Sunday, 14 October 2007 19:39 (eighteen years ago)

i'm all for some real topsy turvy shit this year, and this year only. i'll be ;_; if this is a trend and not an anomaly.

Jordan Sargent, Sunday, 14 October 2007 19:40 (eighteen years ago)

it's funny tho that the national championship is just going to end up being lsu-ohio st.
1 loss is the new undefeated.

Jordan Sargent, Sunday, 14 October 2007 19:40 (eighteen years ago)

no way usf-bc, ohio state will lose.

hstencil, Sunday, 14 October 2007 19:42 (eighteen years ago)

i think it's good, there have ALWAYS been over rated teams in the top 25 who were there solely because of their reputation or conference affiliation. i mean, look at bc, they've won something like 7 straight bowl games and always finish the year in the top 20 but they're never in it at the beginning of the season because they don't have the tradition of a team like michigan. teams like usf or rutgers get penalized when they lose, dropping lower in the polls than a team like texas or usc for reasons that usually have nothing to do with the talent of their rosters.

chicago kevin, Sunday, 14 October 2007 19:43 (eighteen years ago)

yeah idk i was just saying that w/ how much is being made of parody, the nat'l title is just gonna end up being the best one loss teams, someone from the group of like oklahoma, ohio st, lsu, cal/usc i.e. teams we would have guessed all along.

if i had to wager right now, i'd put my money on oklahoma-ohio st. (oklahoma's remaining sched= October @ Iowa State, Texas A&M, Baylor , @ No. 22 Texas Tech, Oklahoma State + Big XII title. they should navigate all those games, stoops usuallly rules texas tech.) i'm kinda in the boat that bc hasn't played anyone and will eventually lose and usf won't make it undefeated thru their last 4 games (cincy, @ cuse, louisville, @ pitt)

Jordan Sargent, Sunday, 14 October 2007 19:48 (eighteen years ago)

xpost to hstencil.

Jordan Sargent, Sunday, 14 October 2007 19:49 (eighteen years ago)

if bc wins on thursday they're not going to lose all year.

chicago kevin, Sunday, 14 October 2007 19:51 (eighteen years ago)

ohio state hasn't played anyone except purdue, who aren't that good. i could see them losing twice, maybe. michigan should beat them.

hstencil, Sunday, 14 October 2007 19:56 (eighteen years ago)

oh man that would be sweet. the bar manager at my local is from columbus and is the biggest osu appologist. the only decent teams bc has played have been wake forest (killed them) and ga. tech (beat them soundly). they'll be tested every week from here out though facing va. tech, fsu, miami, maryland but not in that order.

chicago kevin, Sunday, 14 October 2007 19:59 (eighteen years ago)

out of the top 5 right now, oklahoma has the easiest remaining sched (tho the big 12 champ. game is a wild card) then probably usf (but they're the worst team in the top 5).

ok i didn't realize ohio st has such a tough schde coming up. @ penn st (night game), wisco, illinois, @ mich. if they make it tru penn st, they'll walk over wisco/ill. michigan beating an undefeated ohio st in the big house in the last game of the season would be some really crazy upset full circle shit.

Jordan Sargent, Sunday, 14 October 2007 20:07 (eighteen years ago)

and w/r/t to what was said upthread: poll bias can be seen w/ the fact that ohio st is #1 over usf even tho they've beat 0 currently ranked teams compared to usf's 2.

that of course brings up the question of do you rank based on who you think the best teams are or what is 'objective.'

Jordan Sargent, Sunday, 14 October 2007 20:09 (eighteen years ago)

exciting usf/rutgers game so far...

hstencil, Friday, 19 October 2007 00:44 (eighteen years ago)

rutgers winz MORE BCS CHAOS

hstencil, Friday, 19 October 2007 03:37 (eighteen years ago)

wheeeee! bc moves to #2 by not playing!!

chicago kevin, Friday, 19 October 2007 03:51 (eighteen years ago)

usf...ha!

i like their qb and i like mike ford, but the big east is kind of a fraud. i mean, there are some good teams in the big east, but in lower half of the top 25 kind of way.

j.q higgins, Friday, 19 October 2007 13:43 (eighteen years ago)

best thing about usf is their d-backs.

chicago kevin, Friday, 19 October 2007 15:09 (eighteen years ago)

i'm gonna be seeing (lol) bc vs. umd in 3 weeks

am0n, Friday, 19 October 2007 17:54 (eighteen years ago)

I'm one of the few people here that will speak up for the Big East, but I'll admit Syracuse and Pitt blow. Dave Wannstedt has recruited some good freshman talent, but if the wins don't come soon he won't be around much longer.

chicago kevin, Saturday, 20 October 2007 19:45 (eighteen years ago)

there are few teams i dislike more than florida. but wow, tebow...

J0rdan S., Saturday, 20 October 2007 22:37 (eighteen years ago)

UCLA completely dominated on run offense AND run defense. Cal is spiraling out of the Top 25. :/

chicago kevin, Sunday, 21 October 2007 18:19 (eighteen years ago)

When I was in high school, we actually pulled off a fumblerooski

we had a few slang terms for it but "fumblerooski" was not one of them.

leavethecapital, Saturday, 10 November 2007 23:43 (eighteen years ago)

The SEC is really stacked this year with so many of the middle of the pack schools having good seasons. They are most likely going to put ten clubs into bowl games. That is crazy.

LSU
Florida
Auburn
Alabama
Kentucky
Mississippi State
Tennessee
South Carolina (This has to be the best 6-5 club in NCAA football.)
Georgia
Arkansas

earlnash, Sunday, 11 November 2007 15:04 (eighteen years ago)

Johnny Fever, Monday, 19 November 2007 03:24 (eighteen years ago)

they have the illinois state playoff championships on tv all day today and tonight, there's a kid playing qb for tuscola who's going to michigan next year who is so much better than everyone else on the field. these are two small schools (the o-line for galena averages 6-0 183 lbs) but this lefty qb looks like he's about 6-4 220 lbs. the other qb can barely throw the ball 20 yeards but this kid flicks his wrist and throws lasers 35 yards down the field.

kickoff returned for a td by the other qb, about to be a tie game.

chicago kevin, Friday, 23 November 2007 16:51 (seventeen years ago)

close, 6-5 220.

Led by 6-5, 220-pound, Michigan University-bound quarterback John Wienke, Tuscola (10-1) rolled to touchdowns on its first eight possessions. The Warriors scored in three plays or fewer on five of those drives. And Wienke? Believe the hype! The Big Ten recruit completed 13-of-13 passes for 265 yards and five touchdowns to four different receivers.

chicago kevin, Friday, 23 November 2007 16:53 (seventeen years ago)

I'm wary of qbs with the name Wienke.

Does anyone here really believe that Missouri and West Virginia are the two best teams in the NCAA?

earlnash, Wednesday, 28 November 2007 23:44 (seventeen years ago)

ok the problem is that trying to prognosticate this season is obv pointless, so it really doesn't matter what you think. if you don't think that mizzou or wvu could beat any team in the country right now you're kind of crazy, especially w/ regards to missouri who's only loss is to oklahoma in norman by 10 points in a game in which they were leading in the 4th quarter.

J0rdan S., Thursday, 29 November 2007 00:01 (seventeen years ago)

ok btw when i said "it doesn't matter what you think" i mean that both in the proverbial universal you and you, earlnash. just as it really doesn't matter who i think the best teams are. my point is, i don't think anyone who has watched missouri play could honestly say that they couldn't beat any team in the country in the national title game.

J0rdan S., Thursday, 29 November 2007 00:03 (seventeen years ago)

I can believe that Mizzou is the best team in the country, yes ... especially after watching them Saturday night... West Virginia, not so much..

Stormy Davis, Thursday, 29 November 2007 00:29 (seventeen years ago)

west virginia is unstoppable.

i believe their offense can't be stopped.

defense... shakey at times.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 29 November 2007 02:16 (seventeen years ago)

does anyone in the US besides college presidents not want a playoff system? I realize this is rehashed every year ad nausem but c'mon was it really necessary for Ohio State to add an extra game to their schedule so they can play another MAC team? There's one playoff game right there!

Anyway, both Mizzou and WVU looked good last weekend. I hope excluding the SEC from the National Championship will rile up their fans enough to demand a playoff.

brownie, Thursday, 29 November 2007 02:48 (seventeen years ago)

get better, cankles ;_;

omar little, Thursday, 29 November 2007 02:54 (seventeen years ago)

The weird thing about the SEC and the BCS this year? Georgia's #4, yet they're not playing in the conference championship game. Fucked, dudes.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 29 November 2007 03:01 (seventeen years ago)

clearly the real lesson of this college football season is always wear a rubber

max, Thursday, 29 November 2007 03:05 (seventeen years ago)

Georgia's #4, yet they're not playing in the conference championship game. Fucked, dudes.

that tells you how arbitrary the poll system is. settle it on the field, LIKE EVERY OTHER LEVEL OF COLLEGE FOOTBALL.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 29 November 2007 03:06 (seventeen years ago)

I do not want a playoff system. I love the Bowls. I will watch any random bowl, i don't care. BUT, what I think they should do is just add one extra game for the top two teams that come out of the bowl games. AND, they're basically ALREADY did that, time-wise, when they added that "extra" Bowl game -- the BCS championship game -- which plays a week after Jan 1. But of course they fucked it up by having the teams pre-scheduled and not making it like a playoff type thing. Which in my scenario would really just amount to a 4-team playoff system. But Anything more than that would be ridiculous anyway. You really just want to avoid situations like Auburn a couple years back or whatever.

Stormy Davis, Thursday, 29 November 2007 04:56 (seventeen years ago)

re: wvu

did anyone see that promo package of noel devine a couple years ago when he was being marketed to recruiters? holy smokes. when slaton is gone, you will see what a phenomenal talent this dude is. in the interim, i sincerely hope you look it up on youtube or somesuch. it is quite a thing to behold.

j.q higgins, Thursday, 29 November 2007 14:12 (seventeen years ago)

so keep the bowls and name the playoff games "bowls". who cares? already more than half the teams playing 1A ball play in bowls at the end of the year. divisions 1AA, II, and III all have playoff systems, if the ncaa is so concerned about the well balance of "scholar" and "athlete" why is the playoff system allowable for everyone but 1A?

chicago kevin, Thursday, 29 November 2007 15:21 (seventeen years ago)

The NCAA basketball season runs almost 6 months so apparently they're not too concerned with their academics.

brownie, Thursday, 29 November 2007 15:25 (seventeen years ago)

hell, baseball season goes past the end of the academic year at a lot of places.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 29 November 2007 15:48 (seventeen years ago)

Soo...OSU and LSU. Hmmm...

This is the craziest season EVAR!

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 20:57 (seventeen years ago)

it's funny tho that the national championship is just going to end up being lsu-ohio st.
1 loss is the new undefeated.

Hey P. Plains, what was the reaction in your area when the Tuberville-to-Arkansas rumor hit? (I haven't heard anything since T.T.'s denial, so I assume it isn't happening.)

Rock Hardy, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 22:08 (seventeen years ago)

Actually, Tuberville's denial is worthless. I just haven't heard anything else about it in several days.

it's weird that the nfl network commentators are focusing so much on who's a pro prospect and the combine in the texas bowl game. its also weird that the tcu kicker is missing like half an arm. i did a major double take.

johnny crunch, Saturday, 29 December 2007 03:52 (seventeen years ago)

I think they the NCAA can keep the bowls and have a playoff. I don't see the problem with having the BCS Bowls be the tournament itself, they could have four of the bowls be the round of eight, two of the big ones be the round of four, then have a championship game on the off week before the Superbowl.

It would be worth a gazillion dollars. However much college football's new year orgy makes, a national championship tournament would be even bigger. Football multiplied by March Madness would be insane for making cash, especially if they got buck wild and made it a 16 team bracket free for all.

However in another way, the NCAA and the media are already earning enough fatback cash off of college football and basketball athletes, so it would just be another screw job to the players. College football players, especially the un-heralded masses that fill up squads sometimes get screwed by their schools if they get hurt. People working at fast food joints have better coverage if they get hurt "on the job".

earlnash, Saturday, 29 December 2007 05:54 (seventeen years ago)

I'm a little tired of the excuse that a playoff would mean the athletes would miss more class and that it could force them to have to reschedule exams.

didn't seem to stop them from extending the length of the regular season.

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Sunday, 30 December 2007 05:06 (seventeen years ago)

it's weird that the nfl network commentators are focusing so much on who's a pro prospect and the combine in the texas bowl game.

mike mayock was one of the commentators iirc, and his big 'thing' is as a draft analyst/scout... his combine coverage on NFLN is pretty intense~

cankles, Sunday, 30 December 2007 05:12 (seventeen years ago)

^^oh i know mayock is a bro, i didnt actually mind...there wasnt a lot going on in that game drama-wise until the last drive actually.

anyone hear in the uconn-wake game when the commentator (think it was the other dude not andre ware, im blankin on his name) said "you keep pounding that meat long enough and it'll soon become tender?" after a wake td run...? o_O!!!!!

johnny crunch, Sunday, 30 December 2007 16:50 (seventeen years ago)

i didn't catch that. i hadn't previously noticed wake's skip prosser pacthes, though. those were kind of cool.

Mich-Fla barn burner in progress...

brownie, Tuesday, 1 January 2008 21:09 (seventeen years ago)

Mich/Fla was a good game. I hope Hawaii can pull off an upset or at least make it more interesting than the Illini in the Rose Bowl.

earlnash, Tuesday, 1 January 2008 22:57 (seventeen years ago)

lol hawaii will be KRUSHED

cankles, Tuesday, 1 January 2008 23:16 (seventeen years ago)

USC favored by 14. I would've thought more, Illinois is one of the worst Rose Bowl teams in recent memory.

brownie, Tuesday, 1 January 2008 23:22 (seventeen years ago)

jesus, did anyone in the goddamn world really want to see this illi-sc game? a ga-sc rosebowl would've been TYTE, better than the national championship imo~~~

cankles, Tuesday, 1 January 2008 23:36 (seventeen years ago)

also, rainbow warriors get off my mainland and my tv.

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 2 January 2008 03:05 (seventeen years ago)

The only good that can come from this game is if Fox decides the whole Boise State thing was an aberration, and decides not to renew its BCS contract.

And Georgia's halftime salute to Journey.

C-L, Wednesday, 2 January 2008 04:24 (seventeen years ago)

florida v. michigan was the best bowl game i've watched. there've been a lot of snoozers this year, though i missed navy!

j.q higgins, Wednesday, 2 January 2008 21:03 (seventeen years ago)

If they would have matched it up Georgia vs. USC and Hawaii vs. Illinois, we would have had some games.

I think Georgia and USC could have been an excellent matchup.

earlnash, Wednesday, 2 January 2008 21:44 (seventeen years ago)

Hawaii vs. Illinois would've made a nice Holiday Bowl, I guess.

polyphonic, Wednesday, 2 January 2008 21:51 (seventeen years ago)

GA vs USC, Missouri, OK, or OSU in any bowl game would've been nice

Can't say I'm excited about this WV/OK game tonight.

brownie, Wednesday, 2 January 2008 21:54 (seventeen years ago)

oh but u get KU/VT tomorrow to be fired up abt!

johnny crunch, Thursday, 3 January 2008 01:22 (seventeen years ago)

it took me a minute to figure out who kansas was playing because i knew my initial reaction of "vermont" wasn't correct. for starters, last time i checked they don't even have a football team at uvm.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 3 January 2008 01:39 (seventeen years ago)

even w/o slaton wvu is kicking oklahoma's ass. this is only gonna get worse for the sooners.

NOEL DEVINE!

j.q higgins, Thursday, 3 January 2008 16:44 (seventeen years ago)

seeing those hawaii kids get humiliated like that kinda made me mad. who comes up with these match-ups? georgia should've been matched against a more competetive team like missou, who also got screwed, and hawaii should be playing a team closer to its own level. the players AND fans had their time wasted by dickbags hoping for boise state magic and going for the storylines, instead of putting together appropriate matchups.

cankles, Thursday, 3 January 2008 19:56 (seventeen years ago)

Do you really not know how the matchups work? Basically, the BCS creates a pool of eligible teams (anyone in the top 16 of the final BCS rankings, I think); the championship game gets the first two picks, and then the rest of the teams are basically drafted between the various bowls. So that means you'll never see the 3rd best team vs. the 4th best team in a game. The third, fourth, and fifth best teams each get their own bowls, and each get their own inferior competition (unless it's Oklahoma, haha).

polyphonic, Thursday, 3 January 2008 20:13 (seventeen years ago)

a playoff would've allowed water to find it's own level so to speak.

lol i just realized phil fulmer is giving birth to a donut up there

J0rdan S., Saturday, 5 January 2008 02:25 (seventeen years ago)

chris myers just said that jim tressle told his squad at halftime "we had the lead, we're capable, let's get back to basics."

if you're team needs to be reminded that they conceivably could win the game while you're playing for a national championship then that team is not going to win.

chicago kevin, Tuesday, 8 January 2008 03:23 (seventeen years ago)

this game is, for 48 combined points, has been pretty unsensational
