El Tomboto, Thursday, 6 September 2007 02:15 (eighteen years ago)

that and the disingenuous thread title (lol taunting teams that have 0 fans) are all the shit talk I will be doing until after my team fires their coach in week 3

brownie, Thursday, 6 September 2007 12:54 (eighteen years ago)

yeah, has anyone seen the America's Game about the Colts? I meant to watch it last night. Peyton seems...yeah, less measured than usual in the teasers.

horseshoe, Thursday, 6 September 2007 14:37 (eighteen years ago)

man I am so fuckin stoked just for watching these bozos go at it on the NFL network again. Marshall Faulk is the only person with a lick of sense in the entire crowd and even he says ridiculous, ridiculous shit. "The Dolphins are going to surprise people this year!"

El Tomboto, Thursday, 6 September 2007 23:59 (eighteen years ago)

Deion: "The Cowboys are going to the Super Bowl. Tony Romo! T.O.! Jason Witten! blah blah" wtf carzy ppl are awesome

"priceless pep talk" Peyton mastercard commercial not up to standard. :(

horseshoe, Friday, 7 September 2007 01:25 (eighteen years ago)

"TB did you watch the america's game about the Colts "

I saw it last night. A good portion of the show is about the background leading up to last season. There is a funny sideline argument between Peyton and Jeff Saturday. Manning's voice goes up about two octaves yipping at Saturday and Tarik Glenn comes up and is like "go sit on the bench" breaking it up. They then cut to Manning and Dallas Clark talking about the side line freakout laughing because NFL films had a microphone on Peyton.

Nothing can top those America's Games about those 70s Raider and Steelers winners. Those things are freakin' gold.

horseshoe, Friday, 7 September 2007 02:02 (eighteen years ago)

I really forgot how much I miss the entire retarded TV spectacle of NFL football. I mean I love the sport and all that but jesus who thought bob costas bookended by tiki barber and keith olbermann could be so invigorating. IT'S HERE!!! FOOTBALL IS HERE!!! BA BUM BUM BUM BA BUM BUM etc

My favorite ad so far is tony romo repeating the dozy OC's play calls like he's a deaf downs baby. Which is exactly how I imagine him doing it in real life lol cheap shots

El Tomboto, Friday, 7 September 2007 02:33 (eighteen years ago)

MIA @ WAS - Oh dear god, this will be unwatchable. Uh the fish!!

ATL @ MIN - No dog jokes allowed. As far as Minnesota goes I have no idea if Jackson can quarterback; however, I do want Harrington to do well, so it's Atlanta.

TEN @ JAC - Replacing Leftwich with Garrard is not a good move, but despite that Jacksonville is still much better than Tennessee. I think Young will regress a bit this year. Jax.

CAR @ STL - Is Delhomme the new Bledsoe? Is DeShawn Foster
a drive-killer? Go Rams!

PIT @ CLE – The countdown to the Brady Quinn era starts this Sunday. I predict he’ll be starting by Halloween. As close to a sure thing as you'll see this week. Steelers!!

NE @ NYJ - Mangenius no longer! Pats!

PHI @ GB - Philly.

DEN @ BUF - The few times I saw Denver in the pre-season they looked shaky. Denver.

KC @ HOU - Herm Edwards used his big running back so much last year that it wouldn't surprise me if Johnson's legs literally fell off by mid-October. When you add Herm's great skills at clock management and his play calling you get a train wreak masquerading as a football team. If everything goes as badly as I think, KC will be the black hole of the NFL this year. Another nearly unwatchable mess. Texans.

TB @ SEA - Who's the quarterback for Tampa? Does it really matter? Hawks.

DET @ OAK - Oakland might be better this year. I also might win the lottery. Detroit.

CHI @ SD - Chi-town should sign Leftwich. The guy played on a freakin' broken leg for Christ-sakes and that's the type of thing Bears fans eat up. Besides, they'll need someone when Rex does the inevitable mid-season self-destruct. Griese, his back-up, hasn't shown much and I don't think they'll send Orton's drunk-ass out there again. SD.

NYG @ DAL – Romo began to regress at the end of last year. My gut feeling tells me he’s more ordinary than Pro Bowl, but at least he can move and has better pocket awareness than Bledsoe. At running back it’s still Jones, but you’ll see a lot of Marion Barber. TO is still good and still insane. Dallas.

BAL @ CIN - Cincy's defense relies too much on fumble recoveries which is fine until the ball starts bouncing your opponent’s way. Baltimore's defense is still ferocious despite Lewis getting old and the loss of Adalius Thomas. McGahee is overrated. The f-----g Ravens.

ARI @ SF - People are drinking the Cardinal Kool Aid again. The Arizona offensive line should be better, but it won't really jells until mid-season. Frisco.

leavethecapital, Saturday, 8 September 2007 16:16 (eighteen years ago)

I'm all AFC all the time this year. When AFC teams play each other, I'll pick the easternmost team, unless it's the Colts, in which case I'll pick the Colts.

El Tomboto, Saturday, 8 September 2007 16:42 (eighteen years ago)

I mean why iterate picks all the time when you can just open source yr heuristics. you do the math

El Tomboto, Saturday, 8 September 2007 16:42 (eighteen years ago)

NO @ IND - I probably would have picked Indy.
MIA @ WAS - Miami gets jiggy
ATL @ MIN - VIKES VIKES VIKES PURPLEPRIDE
TEN @ JAC - Jacksonville
CAR @ STL - St. Louis toodle-loo
PIT @ CLE - Steel Curtain, Mike Tomlin is a cool dude
NE @ NYJ - New England easy
PHI @ GB - PACKERS SUCK PACKERS SUCK PACKERS SUCK
DEN @ BUF - Mile High Club VIPs win
KC @ HOU - Hmm...this is tough. Um...KC I guess?
TB @ SEA - For some reason, I'll go Tampa
DET @ OAK - Hmm...fuck I guess Lions even though they are losers
CHI @ SD - SD all the way, I think Chicago is falling off big this year
NYG @ DAL - Romosexual party
BAL @ CIN - I think Baltimore is a good football team. They win.
ARI @ SF - Jeez...man...I guess San Fran?

M@tt He1ges0n, Saturday, 8 September 2007 16:47 (eighteen years ago)

cankles, Saturday, 8 September 2007 17:06 (eighteen years ago)

I picked Minnesota in a survival league.

Pleasant Plains, Saturday, 8 September 2007 17:10 (eighteen years ago)

everybody picking dallas can eat shit btw

El Tomboto, Saturday, 8 September 2007 17:15 (eighteen years ago)

I'm really getting into this NFC East Official Hatred Of The NFL thing, living in DC and being an adopted Giants fan

El Tomboto, Saturday, 8 September 2007 17:17 (eighteen years ago)

I picked Minnesota in a survival league.

Me too. Could make it a short survival season, but I figure if it works then all the good teams are still on the board.

rogermexico., Saturday, 8 September 2007 18:10 (eighteen years ago)

i have detroit in the ilx league :/

Jordan Sargent, Saturday, 8 September 2007 18:20 (eighteen years ago)

I picked Dallas and don't really feel too scared. (if the Giants win and knock me out, I at least tie my 1-week record from last year)

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 8 September 2007 18:27 (eighteen years ago)

I took Detroit too. Actually I might run with the "whoever is playing the raiders" strat for awhile.

bnw, Saturday, 8 September 2007 18:39 (eighteen years ago)

MIA @ WAS - miami may surprise us all by turning out to be average this year. Skins
ATL @ MIN - The Ewing Theory makes Atlanta a playoff lock. Vikes.
TEN @ JAC - Quick: name the league's top second-year RB2 playing on the Gulf Coast. Hint: he played his college ball in Southern California. Hint 2: he is Maurice Jones-Drew. Wires.
CAR @ STL - Tough one. But the home team has Steven Jackson and unless Jake Delhomme stole Neil O'Donnell's lucky charms this offseason, he'll force the wrong throw before it's over. Rams.
PIT @ CLE - Cleveland upgraded to Jamal Lewis at RB. By Halloween he will be benched for Brady Quinn. Steelers.
NE @ NYJ - Jets now have everything in place except talent. Pats.
PHI @ GB - Philly has no running game. Green Bay has no running backs. I'm going with Green Bay for the mild upset.
DEN @ BUF - Tea Hen loves to stick it to Buffalo, and Buffalo loves to let opposing RBs have big days. Lee Evans will find a way to beat Denver's hotshot QBs; JP Losman won't. Broncos.
KC @ HOU - I've seen Hard Knock. Texans.
TB @ SEA - Deion Branch coming out party. Shawks.
DET @ OAK - Think how good the OAK D could be if the offense didn't go three-and-out on every possession. I love Martz, and I love how many balls Kitna's going to wing up for grabs in the second half. Davises.
CHI @ SD - Oh God this will be good. Bolts.
NYG @ DAL - Glenn out means for balls for TO. Wade Phillips is most loveable head coach since Wayne Fontes. Boys.
BAL @ CIN - I love Ocho Cinco. And Hoosh. And Rudi. And Palmer. And by halftime they might be the only stripes still out of jail. Bulmer.
ARI @ SF - Three-figure over/under for this one. I am starting Frank Gore in two leagues, and if Vernon Davis really did date Serena Williams, I'd start their love child too. Niners.

rogermexico., Saturday, 8 September 2007 18:48 (eighteen years ago)

philly has no running game! that's an interesting concept!

El Tomboto, Saturday, 8 September 2007 18:58 (eighteen years ago)

philly has no running game! that's an interesting concept!

Not for a team that looks to throw on 1st and 10, 2nd and 5, AND 3rd and inches. The only way for Philly to develop a running game would be offically rename the swing pass the "really long forward pitch".

rogermexico., Saturday, 8 September 2007 19:16 (eighteen years ago)

uhh philly has one of the league's best running games. you're high.

cankles, Saturday, 8 September 2007 20:21 (eighteen years ago)

the meme last year about how morninwheg turned the team around by righting the wrongs of pass-happy reid was so fucking ridic - the reason they ran more in the second half is cuz THEY HAD A HEALTHY BRIAN WESTBROOK BACK.

cankles, Saturday, 8 September 2007 20:22 (eighteen years ago)

i almost picked nyg because both teams prob wont be very good this year, but dallas should have a HELLACIOUS defense. giants don't have a hellacious anything. tho i am kind of warming up to coughlin lol (lolghlin), i think he might be one of the better coaches in the league now~~

tom you are hell of wrong with that afc bullsquid btw

cankles, Saturday, 8 September 2007 20:26 (eighteen years ago)

you're the guy that just said coughlin might be one of the better coaches in the league dude

I'd take fuckin' del rio over his ass

El Tomboto, Saturday, 8 September 2007 20:49 (eighteen years ago)

only thing his arcane bitch ass cares about is makin sure his players got their uniform pants under their knees and their shoes tied tight. fundamentals lol

El Tomboto, Saturday, 8 September 2007 20:51 (eighteen years ago)

LOL guys get back to me when Philly starts POUNDIN' WESTBROOK DOWN YOUR THROAT.

rogermexico., Saturday, 8 September 2007 21:01 (eighteen years ago)

I'm glad I wasn't the only one, roger, but man, picking Vikings is rolling some dice.

Pleasant Plains, Saturday, 8 September 2007 21:46 (eighteen years ago)

But if we pull it off we eat like kings! If I just wanted to get out of round one I'd-a taken New England.

rogermexico., Saturday, 8 September 2007 21:51 (eighteen years ago)

Everytime I pick against the Jets, I get bit. I don't know why.

Pleasant Plains, Saturday, 8 September 2007 22:19 (eighteen years ago)

Cleveland upgraded to Jamal Lewis at RB. By Halloween he will be benched for Brady Quinn

If this actually happened I would fellate Crennel.

brownie, Saturday, 8 September 2007 22:59 (eighteen years ago)

Further musings on the Vikes/Dirty Birds matchup. Minnesota didn't improve their run defense last season by doing anything special in terms of scheme or strategy. They just added Pat Williams. For proof, see Beffalo run D, 2006 edition.

If you have a healthy Pat Williams, the other guy is going to have trouble running between the tackles. But since Warrick Dunn can't run between the tackles anyway, the Falcons are uniquely positioned to neutralize Pat Williams' impact on the running game. So PP and I could be in trouble.

Of course, a Warrick Dunn is exactly the right running back to have when the mere presence of your quarterback is tying up a linebacker. Count on Minnesota keeping eight in the box all day and daring Joey Harrington to beat them. I actually think he could, too. I just don't have much faith in the Birds' receivers.

rogermexico., Saturday, 8 September 2007 23:53 (eighteen years ago)

you are wrong about everything ever

cankles, Sunday, 9 September 2007 01:30 (eighteen years ago)

I would seriously pay $1,000 to have the Browns win tomorrow.

Mr. Snrub, Sunday, 9 September 2007 01:41 (eighteen years ago)

You can! Just put $1000 on the Steelers!

rogermexico., Sunday, 9 September 2007 01:43 (eighteen years ago)

thomas i hope you enjoy your AIDS world champion SEAHAWKS next february

rm the vikings had the best run defense since the 2000 ravens, and yeah most of it is due to kevin and pat williams (yr assertion that pat williams is the fulcrum upon which all their run dominance rests is really ¯\(°_o)/¯ to me tho), but i honestly think tomlin had a lot to do with it too. in 05 the vikes defenders couldn't even line up right from snap to snap, and in 06 they were suddenly disciplined tacklers who never missed assignments. i think steven jackson kicked their asses in the last game of the season but that's literally the only above-average rushing performance they gave up all year.

"But since Warrick Dunn can't run between the tackles anyway"

???

i'm pretty sure the vikes were equally adept at shutting down runs in every direction, and anyway atlanta threw out the zone blocking scheme - it's all drive blocks now. that's why they broke the bank for ovie mughelli. tbh i don't even think it's a matchup that will decide much about the game, cuz i expect a lot of passing from atl~~

cankles, Sunday, 9 September 2007 14:50 (eighteen years ago)

game that's gonna sukk 2day: jets/pats, jets are butts and they will wilt like daisies in the sun~

cankles, Sunday, 9 September 2007 14:51 (eighteen years ago)

tbh i don't even think it's a matchup that will decide much about the game, cuz i expect a lot of passing from atl~~

So we're basically in agreement that the game hinges on ATL's average-at-best receivers vs. MIN's average-at-best-except-for-Antoine-Winfield secondary.

rogermexico., Sunday, 9 September 2007 15:21 (eighteen years ago)

oh buffalo who needs a functional offense or defense when you can just rely on kickoff/punt returns for all your yardage.

horseshoe, Sunday, 9 September 2007 18:03 (eighteen years ago)

bold clam - atlanta will not lead the league in rushing this year.

ugh.

Gravel Puzzleworth, Sunday, 9 September 2007 18:24 (eighteen years ago)

4-13-CLE 17 (13:59) 7-P.Ernster punts 15 yards to CLV 32, Center-64-R.Pontbriand, out of bounds. PENALTY on CLV-35-J.Harrison, Defensive Holding, 10 yards, enforced at CLV 32. Penalty on CLV-90-D.McMillan, Defensive Holding, declined. Penalty on CLV-56-A.Peek, Illegal Formation, declined. Penalty on CLV, Ineligible Downfield Kick, declined.

Gravel Puzzleworth, Sunday, 9 September 2007 18:34 (eighteen years ago)

again, i dont think performing poorly against one of the historically greatest rush defenses since 1960 really means a lot. kevin williams has been completely dominant btw. he's pushing justin blalock (rookie left guard, early 2nd round pick) around like he's one of those tackling sleds and he had a pick six (!) in the first quarter.

cankles, Sunday, 9 September 2007 18:36 (eighteen years ago)

i agree with your clams tho, the rushing attack wasn't that great last year and i'm dubious about switching away from zone blocking when your personnel suits it better than the 'pound it in' philosophy

cankles, Sunday, 9 September 2007 18:40 (eighteen years ago)

Here are my picks from the pick 'em site. It is really hard to pick games until a few weeks into the season as most of the time, I cannot tell how good these teams are going to be.

Indy
Denver
Washington
Pittsburgh
J-ville
KC
GBay
St. Lou
Minnesota
NE
Oaktown
Bears
Dallas
'Natti
Niners

So far the Packs defense has looked OK and their offense pretty inept. Green Bay has made some dumb calls on offense. Why the heck on a third and a less than a yard they drop Favre back and go down the field? Run the rock!

earlnash, Sunday, 9 September 2007 18:41 (eighteen years ago)

yeah that first week is pretty killer as far as picks go. i wasnt anticipating getting much right.

GB's offense is their achilles heel at this point, which feels weird to say. the defense just got better and better last year and i'm expecting it to continue doing so, but offensively they are inept all around.

cankles, Sunday, 9 September 2007 18:43 (eighteen years ago)

Take away Vick's yards and ATL was 16th in the league in rushing last season, right between CHI and MIN.

rogermexico., Sunday, 9 September 2007 18:47 (eighteen years ago)

yup. he also made it easier for the RBs in that the DEs and DTs can’t crash down as hard as they ordinarily would because of vick, opening cutback lanes for the backs. the drawback of this is that it also takes away the ability to run screens and reverses.

cankles, Sunday, 9 September 2007 18:51 (eighteen years ago)

RNADY MOSSSSSS LOL I LUV U !!!!!!!!

jhøshea, Sunday, 9 September 2007 18:55 (eighteen years ago)

The Packs D-line is really tough.

When I flip over to the Browns/Steelers games, Cleveland is in the middle of doing something really bad. I think they are getting a flag on every other play on offense.

Where the hell is that hilarious thread that shows the Photoshopped Bryan Dawkins doing the flying squirrel tackle??? I can't find it ANYWHERE!!

Mr. Snrub, Sunday, 9 September 2007 21:14 (eighteen years ago)

The Browns fucking suck. Go Tribe!

Mr. Snrub, Sunday, 9 September 2007 21:15 (eighteen years ago)

I think it was last year's rolling playoffs thread, so it should be crazy-long.

xpost

horseshoe, Sunday, 9 September 2007 21:15 (eighteen years ago)

Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved, Sunday, 9 September 2007 21:22 (eighteen years ago)

living on the eastern seaboard you don't get to see much of the Chargers in action besides the playoffs and highlight reels and I just would like to point out that I would take the NYG "no contact" jerseys over the Charger's white helmets. They look like a twatty cross between imperial stormtroopers and bad ricer decals.

El Tomboto, Sunday, 9 September 2007 21:25 (eighteen years ago)

i was soooooooooooooooooooo pumped during the last few mins of the pats game when belichick was all giddy and skipping around, then he SHOVED THE CAMERA GUYS OUT OF THE WAY TO HUG ERIC MANGINI LOL. he'll probably get a fine, but he's like randy moss - STR8 CASH HOMEY

cankles, Sunday, 9 September 2007 21:30 (eighteen years ago)

The Eagles/Pack game was a comedy of errors by both teams, so be glad you saved yourself the misery.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 9 September 2007 21:34 (eighteen years ago)

Are you watching this Bears Bolts bullshit?!? I mean uh
the only things keeping this game alive are the fuckups

El Tomboto, Sunday, 9 September 2007 21:57 (eighteen years ago)

this gaem is a blow

Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved, Sunday, 9 September 2007 22:03 (eighteen years ago)

I'm stuck with Bucs/Seahawks. Meh.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 9 September 2007 22:05 (eighteen years ago)

I think right now there have been more fumbles than rushing yards

El Tomboto, Sunday, 9 September 2007 22:08 (eighteen years ago)

I mean the SD special teams just caused a fumble on themselves when a blocker ran head on into his own fucking punt returner

El Tomboto, Sunday, 9 September 2007 22:09 (eighteen years ago)

SUPER BOWL PREVIEW?!?!?

El Tomboto, Sunday, 9 September 2007 22:09 (eighteen years ago)

Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved, Sunday, 9 September 2007 22:09 (eighteen years ago)

Ha, Tiki starts out referring to the Giants as "our team" and "we" and finishes by saying "they".

Rock Hardy, Monday, 10 September 2007 03:44 (eighteen years ago)

yup this is basically the worst game ever to have to hear about in postgame between Deion Sanders on the NFLN and Tiki on NBC. For slightly different reasons but basically nothing but pain wherever you turn.

El Tomboto, Monday, 10 September 2007 03:50 (eighteen years ago)

Also do the Giants HAVE a secondary?

Come back Jason Sehorn all is forgiven.

rogermexico., Monday, 10 September 2007 04:31 (eighteen years ago)

Except the hair.

forksclovetofu, Monday, 10 September 2007 05:36 (eighteen years ago)

As usual I'm pretty excited, and especially so when the Steelers go up 24-0 in the third quarter I'll get to see Brady Quinn come in and lead the Browns to a 27-7 loss.

i am nostradamus jr.

Ok, so the Browns looked about as bad they ever looked since their return to the NFL. They will roll however over the Bengals. :'D

Like the Chargers helmets but they don't match the pants -_O

Everytime the Bills score was shown they were winning but they lost.
