I went 14-2 last week in a completely guess-driven pick'em style.

IND @ TEN - I <3 Joseph Addai. IND GB @ NYG - Brett Favre Victory Lap continues, Favre still having fun. GB CIN @ CLE - Browns cite obscure sandlot rule forcing CPalmer to play "all-time QB," lose by 17. CIN HOU @ CAR - Houston win streak was fun while it lasted. CAR NO @ TB - Garcia-to-Galloway not bad, but not Manning-to-Harrison. NO BUF @ PIT - Three Rivers or whatever they call it now has always been a house of horrors for Buffalo. BUF ATL @ JAC - So much for Ewing Theory. JAC SF @ STL - SF let ARI run... could be a big day for SJackson. STL MIN @ DET - KitnaKats goen wild! DAL KC @ CHI - You play. To win. The game. CHI NYJ @ BAL - In the battle of the backups, always bet on Boller. BAL OAK @ DEN - DEN secondary actually records more catches than OAK receivers as Shanahan proves once again that no one holds a grudge better. DEN SD @ NE - YES YES YES. A gift to fans from the scheduling gods. Norv Turner proves that no one but no one wants it more than Belichick. NE WAS @ PHI - Memo to WAS - edging MIA at home does not make you a contender. Unless you're in the NFC East. PHI

my lock is denver. i don't know how frequently oakland beats them @ denver, but i'm guessing not that often.

This season, we get both.
― rogermexico., Friday, 14 September 2007 22:30 (eighteen years ago)
11-5 last week...
Carolina J-Ville Indy Rams Green Bay Blitzburgh Bengals Tampa Vikings Dolphins - UPSET SPECIAL Seattle B-More Bears Denver NE Philly
What I saw from the games I watched:
Cincy - defense looked pretty good, but like usual their special teams blew and they seem to make mistakes at bad times. They got jobbed on a couple of calls last year, especially that one in the Tampa game, so they were due to get a bad call go their way. The refs gave B-more a make up call that gave them first down and goal to go, so I don't think they have much to cry about.
B-more - Their offensive line looked pretty bad. I don't think McNair is that great anymore, but they seemed to be getting to him pretty quick. Ed Reed is a freak and I don't figure why the Ravens don't try to somehow use him some on offense. Same goes with BJ Sams, that guy can flat out fly. I don't get on such a lame offensive club they don't try and get those guys the ball at least once or twice a game.
Green Bay - I think this is the best defense they have had since back when they had Reggie White. Their d-line is really good. The offense doesn't seem to be that hot, but their o-line is young, so maybe they will improve.
Philly - They look OK on both sides of the ball. I can't tell quite how good their D will be until they play a team that can light it up. The Eagles need to not be afraid of running the ball a bit more.
Indy - They looked pretty good. I will have to see the defense keep it up. The Titans are going to try and run the ball a bunch, so this could be a good test.
Saints - I somehow don't think their defense is quite as bad as it looked. Bree's should also be able to get the ball down field a bit more going forward. I still figure they will slide back.
Cowboys- Their D was making the same mistakes that they did down the stretch, good for them that the Giants were even making more. I will have to see them play a couple more times before thinking that offense is that good.
Giants - Their offense looked OK, even with the injuries. Their pass defense was total crap. I don't see them as much of a factor.
SD/Bears - This game put me to sleep. I watched the kickoff, first series and the last minute or two.
Arizona/49ers - I didn't watch much of this one, but both teams seemed to get a penalty about every other play. 49ers defense looks like it might be decent. The Cards o-line is sub-standard.

It's possible, but Tennessee ALWAYS plays the Colts really hard.
― Johnny Fever, Sunday, 16 September 2007 17:58 (eighteen years ago)
if this game ends up 41-17 like it looks like it might, i think it might be closer than it appears. if that's possible.
― Jordan Sargent, Sunday, 16 September 2007 17:58 (eighteen years ago)
being able to pound the ball w/ two backs+ vince young being able to convert 3rds with his feet + consistently completing 6-8 yard passes= a recipe for 10-6, jets-esque beat everyone who you're supposed to playoff run, i think.
― Jordan Sargent, Sunday, 16 September 2007 18:01 (eighteen years ago)
jordan, do you get more than one game at a time? that is the disadvantage of a two-team market, if they're not playing at the same time, that's all we get (plus whatever's on nbc at night).

This is the second week I'm not seeing the Jags game here in FL. Previous years, they've owned the east-central tv market, which makes me wonder if their coverage deal with the NFL and CBS got restructured. Of course, I've still got a shitty Bucs game to watch every week.

I don't even think of Buffalo as being a NY team. I mean, I understand that they are and all, but it never even occurs to me. Teh Giants and teh Jets are teh suck; this is gonna be a LONG year.

omg mccareins - not often you see one guy lose a game twice
― jhøshea, Sunday, 16 September 2007 23:25 (eighteen years ago)
At no time did the Bills look good on offense
Not entirely fair - the lynch kid can BALL. He really deserves better.
was watching the game at a Bills bar and there were actually fans there wearing the PUNTER'S JERSEY!!! Moorman is awesome, but that is just sad
It's in a great Buffalo tradition though...

okay I don't like the Raiders or anything, but that sucks. I hate Mike Shanahan's smug face.
― horseshoe, Sunday, 16 September 2007 23:38 (eighteen years ago)
yeah i was kind of EXPECTING THANGZ from the bills this year! it's cool tho i replaced them with the texans in my predictions
ahaha moorman is my favorite bill btw!!!!! they should have him kick and ~*return*~ punts imo
― cankles, Sunday, 16 September 2007 23:41 (eighteen years ago)
they should have him block defensive linemen for fuck's sake. the other hallowed Bills' tradition: totally fucking up pass protection since 1991.
― horseshoe, Sunday, 16 September 2007 23:42 (eighteen years ago)
yeah shanahan is a shanadick :(
xpost how is marshawn in pass pro?

btw can we all make a pact to only refer to the Raiders' HC as MONTE'S BOY?
― cankles, Sunday, 16 September 2007 23:45 (eighteen years ago)
I know the bills spent like a kazillion dollars on the offensive line in the off-season! maybe it's the coaching. maybe I'm just grasping at straws and it's all Losman's fault, but he had a good season last year!
― horseshoe, Sunday, 16 September 2007 23:46 (eighteen years ago)
I can't say I've really noticed Lynch one way or another as a pass protector. I tend to only notice pass protection when it breaks down...
― horseshoe, Sunday, 16 September 2007 23:48 (eighteen years ago)
It's not all Losman's fault. It's been like this ever since free agency destroyed the Super Bowl line. It's like the Todd Collins Era all over again ;-;
― rogermexico., Sunday, 16 September 2007 23:48 (eighteen years ago)
hah i really have to admire shanahan's douchebaggery there - classic

― Mr. Snrub, Sunday, 16 September 2007 23:52 (eighteen years ago)
yeah same re pass protection, also more and more lately if a guy is sacked too much i assume it is probably the QB's fault, unless he plays for mike martz
losman looked really good last year! and lee evans, dannnng. i saw a clip of losman this week talking about everett and he seemed in a daze about it, all questioning his mortality and whatnot :[

Frankly the whole thing's just bizarre. Like, stealing signals is a time-honored and rule-protected tradition if you do it binocularly from teh booth, but BY NO MEANS may any team use teh cameraz THAT WOULD BE WRONG.
I liked the signal-jammer sensors more. The visitor-headset-transmission-blocking-in-critical-situations strikes me as much more scandalous.

Cincy - defense looked pretty good, but like usual their special teams blew and they seem to make mistakes at bad times. They got jobbed on a couple of calls last year, especially that one in the Tampa game, so they were due to get a bad call go their way. The refs gave B-more a make up call that gave them first down and goal to go, so I don't think they have much to cry about.B-more - Their offensive line looked pretty bad. I don't think McNair is that great anymore, but they seemed to be getting to him pretty quick. Ed Reed is a freak and I don't figure why the Ravens don't try to somehow use him some on offense. Same goes with BJ Sams, that guy can flat out fly. I don't get on such a lame offensive club they don't try and get those guys the ball at least once or twice a game.Green Bay - I think this is the best defense they have had since back when they had Reggie White. Their d-line is really good. The offense doesn't seem to be that hot, but their o-line is young, so maybe they will improve.Philly - They look OK on both sides of the ball. I can't tell quite how good their D will be until they play a team that can light it up. The Eagles need to not be afraid of running the ball a bit more.Indy - They looked pretty good. I will have to see the defense keep it up. The Titans are going to try and run the ball a bunch, so this could be a good test.Saints - I somehow don't think their defense is quite as bad as it looked. Bree's should also be able to get the ball down field a bit more going forward. I still figure they will slide back.Cowboys- Their D was making the same mistakes that they did down the stretch, good for them that the Giants were even making more. I will have to see them play a couple more times before thinking that offense is that good.Giants - Their offense looked OK, even with the injuries. Their pass defense was total crap. I don't see them as much of a factor.SD/Bears - This game put me to sleep. I watched the kickoff, first series and the last minute or two.Arizona/49ers - I didn't watch much of this one, but both teams seemed to get a penalty about every other play. 49ers defense looks like it might be decent. The Cards o-line is sub-standard.
^this is all pretty otm btw, i wrote a bunch of shit about TEAMZ but my browser crashed and it is forever lost in the mists of stupidity.
i only saw 2 games today (falcz&patz) plus the 4th quarter of the CLEEEEVELAND MIRACLE. not that many really good looking teams at this point - NE, Indy, Pitt and Green Bay (by NFC standards, obv) the GB defense is nasty as hell, but i could see the offense being a liability down the stretch, tho not as much as it is for Chicago, shd make for an interesting matchup. also i love that detroit is undefeated right now, nfc north is like last year's nfc east (nfc south = last year's nfc west)
cinci is like the golden state of football, they can only beat you one way and it depends on how hot they're shooting on any given night. that d-line was getting WRECKED by cleveland's line, which is prob why the jamal lewis of 4 years ago decided to make an appearance~
i feel realllllly bad for LT. i felt bad for him in january too. it's pretty easy to root against the chargers (norv, aj smith, merriman all pretty obnoxious) but it is kinda heartbreaking to see LT humiliated like that.
― cankles, Monday, 17 September 2007 07:49 (eighteen years ago)

― jhøshea, Monday, 17 September 2007 15:14 (eighteen years ago)
lmbo that chargers front 7 looked pretty buttsy, idk if jamal williams gettin gimped up is the main reason for that or what. also that's two weeks in a row that brady's had flawless protection, he had enough time back there to make a medicine ball out of rubber bands. this isnt a big deal against the shitass jets, but the chargers are supposed to have a decent passrush~~
― cankles, Monday, 17 September 2007 15:56 (eighteen years ago)
Browns/Bengals --- WTF???????? Marvin, what the hell happened to that D that played against the Ravens? I was not feeling that hot, so I fell asleep and missed the game and didn't see the score until the fourth quarter. I swear I thought I had come out the other side of the Twilight Zone. I have to wonder if Marino is the last QB to throw 6 TDs and lose?
I swear Jamal Lewis has about 10000 yards rushing against the Bengals. He lit Cinci up a few of times in B-more for some sick yardage including that one crazy game where Lewis and Corey Dillon combined for about 500 yards rushing.
I kind of like Detroit, but there is no way in hell I could pick them on the road unless they were playing Notre Dame. I don't think they have won but like a half dozen road games on the road in the past twelve years. I can live with myself missing that pick.
Same goes true for the Texans. They have not won squat and they were on the road.
The Rams have been disappointing. I figured they would do a bit better, as they played well in the first half of last year and then got hurt. The Rams are just not putting the ball in the end zone.
― earlnash, Monday, 17 September 2007 21:52 (eighteen years ago)
the BEARS are in trouble, yo! they will make the playoffs and rexy will have enough security for there to be some sort of qb controversy next year when everyone in the 312/773/630/815 knows they need to grab someone better, like jim miller or something.
