TS: Ben Roethlisberger's Blog vs Peyton Manning's Blog

Roethlisberger (http://benroethlisberger.typepad.com/) goes the traditional "Here are my friends! This is my dog! LOL!" LJ route, while Manning (http://peytonmanning.com/fan/diaries/) kind of goes the "Too busy to actually do this, wtf is wrong with my agent" route. Why does Roethlisberger have this much time on his hands? And why doesn't Manning? Please link to more highly entertaining things like this, and discuss Roethlisberger's dog, Zeus.

Now for the Quarterback Challenge. I had a lot of fun. I got to hang out with a bunch of great guys. The other QB's were Byron Leftwich, Carson Palmer, Matt Hasselback, Drew Brees, Joey Harrington and Jake Delhomme. We did a bunch of different challenges and had a lot of fun. I can't tell you how I did bc it is going to be on tv and I don't want to ruin the whole show, so I hope that you all watch and see what happens. Anyway, while we were down there we had a lot of fun. We all went jet skiing in the ocean, played ping pong, had a golf outing, and ate a lot of great food.
When I got back I had to run out to the kennel and pick up zeus. He was so excited to see me the lady said when she went to put his leash on he starting going crazy like he knew I was there. It looks like he got bigger in just 3 days that I was gone. He now weighs 60 lbs.

Zeus and I am now in the process of painting my living room and my kitchen will be next, so that is keeping me busy while I am here at the house.

And not only do I have paint on my hands Zeus is now a multi-colored dog. He brushed up against a wet wall so he has a big patch of paint on him. It's kind of funny so he is going to get a bath tonight to get the paint off, even though he looks funny. He also has a few spots on his nose. Speaking of Zeus, I am going to have some pictures of him on here very soon maybe even later this week so keep your eyes open for that.

Well, I'd better get back to my painting so everyone have a great day. Oh, I guess I better comment real quick on our draft picks: All I have to say is I am very excited. Not only do I think we got great players, I think they are great men.

Oh, and one last thing I am looking for a new masseuse for the season so if anyone out there has ideas I am open for them and remember this is to make my body feel better so I can play better so make sure they are good at what they do.

Thanks everyone and have a great day.

P.S. Question of the day: What is my favorite type of pie?

I just don't understand your "thing" for like pointing out how people's jokes are like sooooooo not reality, as if any of us actually thought that Roethlisberger is sitting around crying into his Smiths records, writin' a blog and playing Final Fantasy??? Also, leave Daver alone, dude's alright I say as if he ain't here and there are far higher sins on that basebally board than anything the three of us could even conspire to commit if we put all our powers together, so come on man, be nice.

Allyzay must fight Zolton herself. (allyzay), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 18:45 (nineteen years ago)

I dunno why, Manning doesn't really seem like a hateable dude to me. D-CAF! D-CAF! D-CAF! Did you see the "your favorites" little mini-interview with him at the game last night? Dude says the song that describes his inner mind is "Footloose" by Kenny Loggins. Why would you hate that guy?

Allyzay must fight Zolton herself. (allyzay), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 18:46 (nineteen years ago)

Hugglez.

I don't know if folks are necessariliy hating on the Colts so much as they're hating on Peyton, & hating on the Colts by proxy. Hating on Peyton = hating on a successful superstar, possibly the best player in the game (@ least @ his position) that hasn't proven he can win "the big game" or come through in the clutch WHEN IT MATTERS, with some IS HEY GHEY horseshit on the side. Meaning that hating on Peyton = hating on a likeable A-Rod.

Also, unless I'm cross-eyed & stupid, I've only seen one poster make one post about the Colts being overrated so far, and that was prior to Monday's whupping, after which said poster seemingly acquiesed (albeit w/ a "fnar Colts D is lame against one of the best NFL O" caveat). Unless there's a COLTS SUXXXXXXXXXX faction I'm not hep to, this ILNFL anti-Colt hoohah is overrated.

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 19:17 (nineteen years ago)

If there's any White Sox analog in the NFL this year, it's probably the Giants. (If only Tom Coughlin was Ozzie.)

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 19:20 (nineteen years ago)

tom coughlin is the anti-ozzie!

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 19:40 (nineteen years ago)

i would like peyton a lot more if he didn't do all that wild gesticulating and fake audible-izing before running plays. it's just annoying. also there's the story about him harrassing a female trainer at tennessee, which might or might not be true.

mookieproof (mookieproof), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 20:46 (nineteen years ago)

I don't think it's necessarily the posters per se that is kind of like "OK wtf do the Colts gotta do here," it's a lot of different things. I mean I was just reading a recap of last nights game on ESPN today and they're all like, "Yeah whatever, no one cares, let's see who wins in the playoffs." Which of course before yesterday it was like, "Haha like they canbeat the Pats." I dunno, it is odd.

Allyzay must fight Zolton herself. (allyzay), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 21:56 (nineteen years ago)

Ally, I think that in the national media the Colts were the overwhelming favorite to beat the Pats.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 00:00 (nineteen years ago)

I dunno, I agree with Ally. It always felt like whatever lipservice they gave to Petyon, it was just a way of getting to talk about that delightful young quarterback Tom Brady.

Anyway,I found this buried in the Kids section on Peyton's blog:

Kids Only > Puttin' Up with Peyton
Cooper Manning (older brother)

#2 - "Karate Career Cut Short"

When I was about six years old, I decided to take karate. After about two months, it was time for me to graduate from a white belt to a yellow belt. It was a big day! Two months of work, and the whole class was moving up. This was huge for a six year old!

The big day came, and Peyton and dad were in the crowd. There were fifteen students, and we had to pair off and fight each other. A friend of mine ended up without a partner after everyone paired up. You have to keep in mind that at age four, Peyton was what you may call a "chubby kid." He was over 12 pounds when he was born, and his baby fat hadn't worn away! Then again, Peyton didn't do a whole lot to lose it either! I'm sure he was scarfing down a Moon Pie or something while he was watching the match.

Finally, with a mouth-full of food, he gestures to my dad, "I'll fight him," talking about the kid who didn't have a partner. Of course my dad says ok, and Peyton, wobbles down to the mat in a pair of jeans, cowboy boots, and a country accent - looking and acting like a redneck. For some unknown reason, the karate instructor decided to let this completely random stranger out of the crowd go toe to toe with this six-year-old boy who's been taking karate for two months. Everybody just knew that Peyton didn't have a chance!

Well, the fight started and within six seconds, Peyton grabbed the kid and body-slammed him! No fancy karate moves, just plain body slammed him. The kid immediately started crying because he knew he had just gotten beat by some random kid who didn't know a thing about karate!

That day alone probably ended that kid's karate career. It also ended mineÑknowing I had been doing all this practicing for two months, and my "little" brother could probably still pick me up and body slam me! The best part was that Peyton didn't even think anything of what he had done--he just turned around and walked off the mat! He was just looking forward to getting back to the ice cream sandwich he was sucking down on the sideline!

Spoken like a true older brother...

VegemiteGrrl (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 05:25 (nineteen years ago)

Vegemite OTM - check out this recap of the Tuesday morning press on the MNF game.

Of course, Peyton's going to lose to Brady until he gets some rings:

Manning: thee great QB, drafted #1 (aka YOU MUST WIN NOW PRIMADONNA BOY), franchise savior, son of hard-luck NFL great (aka YOU MUST AVENGE ME PEYTON), kinda spazzy, stuck w/ shitty defenses for way too long but gets the blame for the team's one-dimensionality

Brady: 6th round pick, farting around in the background, OH NO PUNCTURED LUNG, lemme win some Superbowls for y'all, aren't I swell?, and so handsome too!, a True Team Player (Nice hair part, Chachi.)

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 06:27 (nineteen years ago)

You wouldn't know that the national media didn't think this was, at least, a totally evenly matched game from the way they were blabbering on ESPN/MNF pregame about it. Even in that segment where they list their five best teams, they ALL said, "My #1 is the Colts...well, probably not after tonight, but we'll see I guess." WTF?

Allyzay must fight Zolton herself. (allyzay), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 14:47 (nineteen years ago)

wtf is that the team hasn't been able to beat them for years and also that they're desperately trying to up the ratings on what was most likely going to be a blowout anyway, so we get "THE GAME OF THE YEAR" on a pair of somewhat mismatched teams with crazy history.
What's the flava, flava? DON'T BELIEVE TH' HYPE

After hearing his BBQ ads ("there is another 'q' that I am passionate about") and reading his somewhat inimitable "can-i-feed-the-rabbits-george" recaps ("Well, I thought it went very well, our new tight end is going to be good he was a little nervous which is to be expected, but he will be very good I do believe"), I can't help but imagine him having to make sure that he's throwing to the right team when he steps onto the field.

Allyzay must fight Zolton herself. (allyzay), Thursday, 19 January 2006 03:15 (nineteen years ago)

the tricky part about Roethlisbertor is the fact that if you listen to him recap CERTAIN plays postgame at the press conferences he sounds like he's about 100x as smart as Manning or Brady or whoever. He's like "wellWhenYouputoutHines Wardontheplayactionthey'reallgonnagotoHines Ward asthegotoguybut wejust droppeditouttheretoMillerand Got the Touchdown"

It's like he's not even afraid to just basically read from the playbook week by week 'cause he knows Spitmaster Cowher is just gonna rewrite the package every Tuesday until the super Bowl.

Also, for Peyton, I think what he needs to do is just do something really out of sorts, he needs to go in front of the whole team and make them watch as he shaves his head, or lets his center shave his head, and they tell everyone he ain't cuttin' that shit again until he gets a ring.

TOMBOT, Thursday, 19 January 2006 03:53 (nineteen years ago)

Maybe Peyton just needs to go have a lot fun sometimes and then it'd all be sorted. I mean, who doesn't like fun? Everyone needs to have a lot of fun. Just go out, stop being such a field general, and have a lot of fun. Seriously. I'm sure Eli has a lot of fun. I've seen pictures of Eli having a lot of fun. Peyton's hair isn't really a lot of fun but really it's gotta be his personality that's not a lot of fun when he keeps freaking out like so. Just have a lot of fun, it's a game, you know?

Allyzay must fight Zolton herself. (allyzay), Thursday, 19 January 2006 03:57 (nineteen years ago)

TOM, I agree with you, but it would be better if instead of his head, they went for the pubes.

And now, a glimpse into the private life of Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger: Saying, "I have no personal life," he admitted that it's now so difficult to go out in public it's easier to meet women on the Internet than in person. And the worst part about being at the Super Bowl? Leaving his Rottweiler, Zeus, at home. "If I could have my dog here it would be perfect, but Coach Cowher wouldn't let me bring him," he said.

do you think Ben eagerly talked about bringing Zeus along to the Super Bowl in front of the guys and they all regarded him with quiet sympathy as Cowher had to gently take him into the office, where he told Ben the news. of course the others couldn't hear the news, but when Ben lowered his head and bit his quivering lower lip, they knew all too well: the dog stayed home.

Finding My Way in Philly
05/03/04

I think I am having a little problem finding my way around the building. Other than that, once I step on the field, it is something that is natural to me. Obviously, I have to get my timing down with the offense and develop some chemistry with Donovan McNabb. Once I step on the field, I just go play. It is different playing with a new team. It was definitely refreshing. I have a new start. I feel I will be able to accomplish some things personally and as a team, we have all the people to make some things happen. We have to take it one practice at a time, one day at a time, and one week at a time. This is just the beginning, the start of mini-camp. I am looking forward to bigger and better things for me. This is a first-class organization all the way across the board. This is the standpoint for which a lot of teams are trying to get to. I remember when I first went to the 49ers, they kind of held the ball in those regards, but now this is what the Eagles are all about. The offense here is very similar. I looked over everything last night. There are some new wrinkles here and there in the verbiage. Other than that I am comfortable. There is nothing that I see that is different. The offense is pretty wide open. For the West Coast offense, for a receiver, I don't have to go in and say I have to catch 100 balls or have a 1,000 receiving yards. If you are doing what you are supposed to be doing in the West Coast offense and you are the primary guy, then those numbers will come. My ability after I catch the ball, that is the icing on the cake.

THURSDAY

As the game gets closer, our focus narrows. Thursday's practice was a good one. We were able to accomplish what we needed to, as our coaches have done a great job preparing. The media requirements were a little less today (but always some), and most of the team is choosing to relax at night. Not much to report on my end unfortunately... just trying to soak it all in and do what I need to do to be ready for Sunday. It's a fun atmosphere in Detroit. You can really sense an excitement in everyone, just being here. I am looking forward to seeing my family soon. Tomorrow will be a lighter practice, and Saturday is a walkthrough. Okay, enough for today. I know, not terribly insightful, but I guess I'm daydreaming about some big game or something... ha ha. I hope you all are getting ready for Sunday. If your having a party, stock up on some of my BBQ sauce or Beef Jerky. You can buy them both from my site, and their the best you'll find. At least I think so. Gotta go. Your friend, Ben

Big Ben in serious condition after motorcycle accident

PITTSBURGH -- Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was badly hurt in a motorcycle crash Monday and undergoing surgery. The extent of his injuries was not known.

Roethlisberger was in serious but stable condition, said Dr. Larry Jones, chief of trauma at Mercy Hospital.

"He was talking to me before he left for the operating room," Jones said before the operation. "He's coherent. He's making sense. He knows what happened. He knows where he is. From that standpoint, he's very stable."

One Steelers source told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that Roethlisberger was in surgery for a broken jaw, an injury that can take approximately seven weeks to heal. The Steelers season starts in 12 weeks.

The 24-year-old Roethlisberger likes to ride without a helmet, a habit that once prompted coach Bill Cowher to lecture him on the dangers.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported that Roethlisberger wasn't wearing a helmet. The Associated Press reported it wasn't clear whether he was wearing a helmet or not.

The crash happened at an intersection at the edge of downtown at about 11:30 a.m. A pool of blood was still visible there by early afternoon.

Police spokesman Lt. Kevin Kraus said police and homicide units were investigating the crash, something standard when there is an accident with critical injuries. Kraus would give no details on the extent of Roethlisberger's injuries or if anyone else was injured.

The accident occurred on Second Avenue near the intersection of 10th Street in Pittsburgh, around 11:30 a.m. The route is one often taken in traveling to the Steelers' facility in the Southside section of the city.

Steelers backup quarterback Charlie Batch was at the emergency room. He had no comment.

A silver Chrysler New Yorker with damage to the front passenger fender was removed and Roethlisberger's bike was loaded onto a flatbed truck. Police were detouring traffic around the crash scene as onlookers and media gathered.

One of his agents, Ryan Tollner, is in route to Pittsburgh for what was supposed to be a pre-planned trip and will arrive later Monday.

In only his second year in the NFL, Roethlisberger became the youngest quarterback to lead a team to the Super Bowl championship. He was 23 when he did it last February.

Roethlisberger has said in the past that he prefers not to wear a helmet. He has pointed out Pennsylvania's 35-year-old state law requiring helmets to be worn was amended to make helmets optional.

In May 2005, Cowher warned him about safe riding after Cleveland tight end Kellen Winslow Jr. was injured in a motorcycle accident. Winslow tore knee ligaments and was lost for the season.

"He talked about being a risk-taker and I'm not really a risk-taker. I'm pretty conservative and laid back, but the big thing is to just be careful," Roethlisberger said at the time. "I'll just continue to be careful. I told him we don't ever ride alone, we always ride in a group of people, and I think it makes it even more safe."

Roethlisberger continued to ride after Winslow's accident and that angered Terry Bradshaw, who quarterbacked the Steelers to four Super Bowl victories during the 1970s.

Visiting the Steelers' training camp last summer, Bradshaw remarked: "Ride it when you retire."

Bike Crash Leaves Roethlisberger In Serious Condition

POSTED: 11:50 am EDT June 12, 2006

PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is undergoing surgery after a motorcycle accident on Monday morning, doctors at Mercy Hospital said.

Roethlisberger is in serious but stable condition, according to Dr. Larry Jones.

According to a police source, Roethlisberger suffered a broken jaw, broke his left sinus cavity, suffered a 9-inch laceration to the back of his head, lost many teeth and has severe injuries to his knees from hitting the pavement.

A plastic surgeon has been called in, the source said.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review said the accident happened on Second Avenue near the 10th Street Bridge. Police have shut down the bridge, Second Avenue and the Armstrong Tunnel.

A witness told Channel 4 Action News that Roethlisberger went over his handlebars, hit the windshield of a car and then fell to the ground.

The witness said she saw the accident and went over to help but did not recognize Roethlisberger. When she asked him what his name was, she said he replied, "Ben."

The woman added that Roethlisberger asked her a series of questions, including where he was and what state he was in. He attempted to stand up but the woman said she encouraged him not to move until paramedics arrived.

The bike and the car, a silver Chrysler New Yorker, have been towed to a police facility in Troy Hill for investigation.

The driver of the New Yorker is not believed to have been seriously injured.

Roethlisberger was not wearing a helmet, according to the Tribune-Review. In the past, he has publicly said he prefers to ride helmetless, which is legal in Pennsylvania.

Former Steelers quarterback Terry Bradshaw has been an outspoken critic of Roethlisberger's motorcycle activity, saying Roethlisberger should stay off bikes until his playing career ends.

I hope Big Ben recovers, but anyone that rides a motorcyle without a helmet or especially those bozos that ride in shorts are complete morons. Criminy, it is dangerous enough with a helmet, gloves and wearing some leather. You would figure after Winslow threw away his career some of these guys would get smart.

I bet Peyton Manning doesn't ride a motorcyle in the off season. I bet he is more of a Lincoln Town Car kind of guy.

The car that Ben struck has a Maine license plate.... Could this be a conspiracy???

"According to a police source, Roethlisberger suffered a broken jaw, broke his left sinus cavity, suffered a 9-inch laceration to the back of his head, lost many teeth and has severe injuries to his knees from hitting the pavement."

Apparently Ben did NOT injure his knees though! He just Mark Hamilled his face. A tragedy definitely but he will play again!

Oh and priceless psuedo-drunk interview with Eli Manning regarding this on NFL network. By interview I mean 10 second soundbite. He needs to perhaps go to the Tom Brady school of talking in public.

Dude I feel sorry for the guy at this point. I mean, yeah, total douche behavior (and I'm really not sure how he's gotten away this long without even having a bike licence being so public about being a biker and all), but I mean come on, the guy no longer has a face, and will be able to play regular season according to the doctors so lighten up a bit on him with the "u ass" comments. Every single parent in Pburgh is already using dude as an example of a jerkface to their kids to remind them, safety first and all that. Plus I'd be $100 Pennsylvania will wise the fuck up and put that helmet law back into effect ASAP, so hey.

Srsly dude has no face anymore, I think he regrets being an ass, that kinda shit ain't cool, even if it was Tom Brady we're talking about.

2006 OFFSEASON
02/25/06

Well just to let all the NEW YORK GIANTs fans know, I'm back to 100%. Just recently the doctors offically cleared me 100% to begin getting ready for the up coming offseason. The injury really put things in reality for me. One year I don't miss no plays, than the next I get knocked out the last month of the season when we were making a serious run for the playoffs. But I'm excited and ready to begin this offseason and build off of what people thought we could not do last year. This team, with a couple of pieces can be a SUPERBOWL CHAMPION. I believe that and I'm sure my teammates do as well. We start working MARCH 20, so the clock is ticking and best believe that this year NY GIANTS wont come up short. The defense will improve for one. This is the first year, in my 6 yrs that I will have the same coaching staff coming back. That alone speaks for its self. Also our offense will be one of thee best next year, so I hope everyone is getting pumped up like me and ready to turn GIANTS STADIUM into a nightmare for the upcoming year.

Tragic:
"But while Roethlisberger won't have to be on a soup-only diet, he missed out on a $2 million Campbell's Chunky Soup commercial that began filming Wednesday at Heinz Field with other Steelers players. Roethlisberger and his stepmother, Brenda, were to have been the stars of the commercial."

PITTSBURGH -- Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will be cited for failure to wear a helmet and not having a motorcycle license after an accident last week left him with a concussion, broken jaw and nose.

Roethlisberger and the driver of the car he crashed into on June 12 both had the green light, but the driver of the vehicle will be cited for failing to yield, police said Monday.

Only licensed cyclists can ride without a helmet in Pennsylvania.

Roethlisberger was traveling 35 mph in a posted 35 mph zone, said officer Dan Connolly. There were no mechanical problems with either vehicle, he said.

Police Chief Dominic Costa said the woman driving the car had received some threatening phone calls, which police were investigating.

Allyzay will never stop making pancakes (allyzay), Monday, 19 June 2006 14:04 (nineteen years ago)

Bolded sentence highlighted because it implies that, in Pennsylvania, YOU DON'T NEED A LICENSE TO RIDE A MOTORCYCLE AS LONG AS YOU WEAR A HELMET??? OK Pennsylvania, get in on safety for once in yr life.

Allyzay will never stop making pancakes (allyzay), Monday, 19 June 2006 14:04 (nineteen years ago)

Also, if you are licensed then you get the privilege of riding without a helmet???? WTF PENNSYLVANIA

Allyzay will never stop making pancakes (allyzay), Monday, 19 June 2006 16:36 (nineteen years ago)

I think the deal is you have to wait a year before you can get a license- during that time you have a permit and have to wear a helmet. Also, you can't beer in less than case quantity outside of a bar.

PITTSBURGH — Ben Roethlisberger said he doesn't plan on doing public safety announcements for motorcycle or helmet safety following his accident last month.

"I don't think that's my place," the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback said in a taped interview aired Friday on ABC's "Good Morning America."

"Some people feel that, you know, I probably should be doing that and being a big advocate for that," Roethlisberger said from Los Angeles. "But for me, I'm going to let people make their own decisions ... So I don't think you'll see me doing any kind of billboards or advertisements."

Another take on the QB Challenged referenced all those eons ago by Big Ben:

QB Challenge is Competitive
05/12/05

Last year was my first year competing in the Quarterback Challenge and I think I was more nervous than anything. But it's a laid back atmosphere and I've had the chance to visit with some of the other guys that are here. Usually I only get to see these guys for 5 or 10 minutes and it's after a game when you don't really have time for more than a little chat. Out here it's more relaxed and you can get to know them a little bit more and see what they are like off the football field. It's been a lot of fun. I can't really say I have too much strategy or gameplan for the drills but there is one - the two minute drill - that I have some ideas for. I did OK with it last year but Matt Hasselbeck had the advantage of having done it before. But this year I know what to expect and I found out what to do. There are some great Hall of Fame quarterbacks out here like John Elway and Dan Marino. I haven't had a chance to talk to them too much yet. I spoke with Dan and Bernie Kosar a little bit yesterday but I hope to speak with those guys more as the week goes on. It's great to be around those guys. When I was growing up were my idols and those guys are legends. I look at them in a different light.

wtf was Bernie Kosar doing there and why didn't security do something about this?

Two days after Tara met him, she spent a few very awkward, if memorable, hours on a date with "Big Ben"; hours she'd like to undo. Their activities included traveling to the Steelers' training facility, where the security guard who never stops anyone waved at the faux quarterback, letting him through to attend to "some business" while Tara sat in the car; signing a Steelers jersey for Tara's giddy neighbor and posing for a photo; telling her about his dog, Zeus, over a dinner she ended up paying for because he left his wallet somewhere; and an uncomfortable encounter in which he tried to touch her hand and lean in for a kiss, which freaked her out, because she wasn't attracted to him anyway.

Matt Stover & Ravens Wide Receivers
08/20/07

I find myself thinking in the huddle, "We're on the 30-yard line. All we have to do is not screw up because we've got three points in our pocket." He's so automatic.

I see Demetrius Williams and Mark Clayton flying around, and I know how that is going to open up the middle for me. You have to respect our passing attack for the first time in--well, forever. Then you sprinkle in Willis McGahee. You genuinely have multiple weapons to account for.

Brian Billick and Teasing Matt Stover
11/15/06

If you come into our meeting rooms and see how we prepared and how we practiced, you can't attribute it to one guy calling plays. Although, it is a different style and it is Coach Billick calling his offense which he had a big part in creating. You can tell he is comfortable in that element, and you can tell on the sideline that guys have a different feel for things.

I'm thankful for Matt Stover--"Mr. Automatic." Anytime we're at the 30-yard line or inside it, we're assured three points. I'm definitely happy we have Matt back there. I have a lot of confidence in him. I never want him to kick the ball except for PATs.

I don't think there is anything a kicker doesn't get teased about, whether he is oldest, youngest, it doesn't matter. He gets teased about everything, because kickers in general are going to get teased; that's just a given. All you young kids watching: If you want to be a kicker when you get older, expect that.

Red Zone and Ed Reed
09/08/06

The red zone is where you really need to focus and convert. A huge focus for us is to get into the red zone and score points. If we can get that going, we'll have the confidence that we're going to get it in.

There are a lot of good safeties that we play against. But I haven't seen any like Ed Reed. When I get to see that everyday in practice, it builds a lot of confidence carrying over to the games.

After dinner I had to go to a QB meeting to talk about any last minute plays I like or don't like. After the QB meeting, we have an offensive meeting and then a team meeting. Once the team meeting was over I went up to my room and watched the end of the crazy college game day. I made some phone calls and then went to bed. Today I got up, packed up my bag, took a shower, got dressed and now I'm sitting on the bus headed to the stadium. "

"You'll never hear me say 'I' anything, but I lost this game," said Roethlisberger, who appeared to be crying into a towel when reporters entered the locker room. "I take it on myself. I let the guys down on offense and defense. It hurts, but we'll learn from it."

When the Steelers quarterback resumed practicing this week, he realized his helmet didn't fit right. He sustained a concussion Dec. 28 against Cleveland, and spent last week getting over headaches associated with the hit. "I had a little headache after putting the helmet on because it was so tight,'' Roethlisberger said Wednesday. "But we'll deal with it and move on.''

Profootballtalk.com passes along "rumors" that suspended Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger was recently caught urinating on a Columbus (OH) golf course by a woman who supposedly now intends to press charges.

PFT's Mike Florio acknowledges that this is all rumor for now, and that the main source of the story is "multiple emails over the past two days." However, Florio does have a legitimate source who's confirmed Roethlisberger indeed was golfing in Columbus. The same source claims Big Ben was not the person urinating -- it was another member of Roethlisberger's foursome.
