i really like the bills! my dad is from buffalo! it's a fun city! it's in my blood! i actually want the bills to win (since the dolphins season is lost and all), but i think the fins have a chance.
you should know that i don't predict the outcomes of games very well.

the "rivalry" doesn't really resonate for me because it basically died before i was even concious of what football wass. along the lines of what you are implying, in no situation would i ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever root for the jets, who for the past, idk, 8 or so years have been the dolphins true hated rival.

Dolphins have a chance! Lemon can throw it up there!
JPL has not come along like I thought he would but Lynch is right there as a rookie. Their line is letting them down somewhat with JPL getting the happy feet in the pocket. He's beginning to look Boller-esque.
I visited West Seneca this year so my Buffalo credentials are secure. I hope.

Steelers - Cleveland has improved but I am not yet to the point where I will pick them to upset Pittsburgh.
Packers - Minnesota cannot throw the ball, if Green Bay gets up two scores it will most likely be over as it is not in the dome.
Washington - The Eagles are a mess, but I would not be surprised if they bounced back and won, as the Skins are not all there.
Titans - This one won't be a pretty game to watch.
Carolina - I want to pick the Falcons to upset, but even with the Panthers QB problems, I cannot quite pull the trigger.
KC - Wow the Broncos are terrible! Knowing my luck this season picking games they will bounce back and knock off the Chiefs.
Bills - Logic says that the Dolphins are going to win at some point, but I still like Buffalo.
Saints - NO seems to have righted the ship, so this might be a trap game for them (see above for the Rams).
Ravens - Baltimore's offense is pathetic, but Cincy is a mess.
Bears - I have not seen Oakland play this year, but I get the feeling Chicago is not really that much better.
Giants - This is just emotion, as I really want to see the Cowboys lose.
Lions - OK I get it, I will finally pick Detroit, but knowing my luck Warner will get hot or the Lions will do something stupid and Arizona will win. It still does not feel right picking the Lions on the road.
Indy - I cannot quite figure SD out. Indy is pretty banged up, but I cannot pick the Chargers to upset them although they won the last time they played.
Seattle - The NFC West doesn't really deserve to have a team get into the playoffs.

― horseshoe, Sunday, 11 November 2007 21:17 (eighteen years ago)
also what a heartbreaker that Browns game was.
What a game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cleveland's defense played better than I expected. Willie Parker's stats may show over 100 yards, but most of those came on one long run. For most of the game he was held to 2-3 yards a carry. Pittsburgh's lucky their last series didn't kill them with two consecutive, and very predictable, running plays, followed by a Roffle’s sack. It would have been smarter to concentrate on the short, horizontal passing game. Cleveland never really came up with a way to stop it. Derek Anderson completely fell apart in the second half. Yes, Pitt's defense played a part in that, but there were open men down field.
After watching this, there's not really much separating the two teams. It's good to have a November Cleveland/Pittsburgh game mean something again.
― leavethecapital, Sunday, 11 November 2007 21:28 (eighteen years ago)

The Ravens offense is really bad. I think their play calls are off, but I think a big part is their offensive line is pretty bad. McNair's skills have eroded, but I am not as convinced as Randy Cross seems to be that he is the problem.
Like they have been doing all year, Cinci is moving the ball but they are just not getting TDs to go with all of those yards. They seem to have a knack for false starts and bad plays at inopportune times.

I'm actually not disappointed in the Browns loss, which is the first time I can say that since 1992. WE WILL OVERCOME
― brownie, Monday, 12 November 2007 00:06 (eighteen years ago)
I listened to a little of the Baltimore/Cincinnati game. McNair just can't do it with that awful line. Billick must have zero confidence in Boller or think his line's so bad that it doesn't matter whose behind center.
― leavethecapital, Monday, 12 November 2007 00:17 (eighteen years ago)
I live in central Kentucky, so the Bengals are the home team and on every week. I grew up in Indiana watching the Bears and Bengals. I hated the Colts for years as once they showed up, Cinci games were never on TV anymore. I got interested in the Colts during Manning's rookie year, as the Bears were so terrible in those days and I thought Mora might turn them around.
My hunches were pretty good, too bad my picks were pretty conservative. It is also a good thing I don't bet money on this stuff.
I knew the freakin' Lions would screw me picking them on the road.
Cincy losing to the Bills last week was pretty big in a way, as that was a team they could and should have beaten. Their schedule is pretty good down the stretch and I could see them putting up some wins. They are now 3 and 6, but I would not be surprised if they finish around 8 and 8 if things go right considering who they play.
― earlnash, Monday, 12 November 2007 00:18 (eighteen years ago)
wtf with Boller. He's been horrible since day one. The Boller/Billick relationship is like the Belichick/Testaverde one. I would love to see Troy Smith playing... but the Ravens can't throw the towel in ju\st yet.
xpost, thanks earl

every time he drops back he's trying to go through his reads and realizes he has no idea wtf these people are. not having dallas clark really hurts the colts on offense, possibly worse than missing bob sanders on defense
― El Tomboto, Monday, 12 November 2007 03:43 (eighteen years ago)
holy shit this game
― horseshoe, Monday, 12 November 2007 03:48 (eighteen years ago)
this game is ludacrisp

― jhøshea, Monday, 12 November 2007 04:17 (eighteen years ago)
I don't know, I listened to Buffalo v. Miami today. This game is better. Really bad teams just play boring games.

yah i guess this is just plain crazy
― jhøshea, Monday, 12 November 2007 04:18 (eighteen years ago)
vinateri missing the game winning fg would be perfect
― jhøshea, Monday, 12 November 2007 04:20 (eighteen years ago)
I feel like Madden and Michaels are on crack. They keep kissing Peyton's ass and this was like his worst game ever.
― horseshoe, Monday, 12 November 2007 04:21 (eighteen years ago)
yah the if manning wins this game it proves his greatness trope makes no fucking sense - like guys it might have something to do w/sd sucking

That game nearly killed me. Jesus.
― polyphonic, Monday, 12 November 2007 07:31 (eighteen years ago)
i was in and out of consciousness for most of this game, i saw the beginning and then from about the middle of the third quarter until for a while then woke up on indy's drive where vinatieri missed it. then i missed the last pick.
i approve of this game.
― chicago kevin, Monday, 12 November 2007 14:53 (eighteen years ago)
it was good
this seems to be the season where people begin to realize that brady is better than manning not just in a "winning" way but altogether
― jhøshea, Monday, 12 November 2007 14:57 (eighteen years ago)
...when his whole team is better.
― bnw, Monday, 12 November 2007 16:07 (eighteen years ago)
lol pats fans think this shit means something
― El Tomboto, Monday, 12 November 2007 16:09 (eighteen years ago)
granted I don't ever really remember seeing brady fall apart. going to college with manning I have to say he's got an amazing ability to self-destruct.

i could say the same about the raiders/bears game. by the 3rd quarter i was hoping for an apartment fire or a home invasion or a drive by shooting... something. anything.
― chicago kevin, Monday, 12 November 2007 16:48 (eighteen years ago)
uh not sure if yr just talking abt the one game - but as far as the season no one can really argue that it hasnt tipped the scales toward brady.
― jhøshea, Monday, 12 November 2007 16:55 (eighteen years ago)
I thought Manning played pretty well, all things considered. The Chargers' defense made some spectacular plays to get s few of those picks (especially the last by Cromartie and the one by Phillips). And yeah, maybe Brady played better with bad receivers last year, but his bad receivers were a lot better than Craphonso Thorpe and Aaron Moorehead. Those dudes are terrible.
Meanwhile, Philip Rivers looked like Rex Grossman out there. He has been completely terrible all year.
― polyphonic, Monday, 12 November 2007 17:48 (eighteen years ago)
I thought Manning played pretty well, all things considered.
wtf, on what level is 6 interceptions considered "pretty well"? pop warner if you're under 11 years of age?
― chicago kevin, Monday, 12 November 2007 17:49 (eighteen years ago)
Craphonso Thorpe and Aaron Moorehead. Those dudes are terrible.
well, brady's top receiver from last year couldn't even make the squad this year. maybe craphonso and aaron would look like they were better players with a different qb.
― chicago kevin, Monday, 12 November 2007 17:50 (eighteen years ago)
well, brady's top receiver from last year couldn't even make the squad this year.
That's partly because the team acquired three star wide receivers and another good one in Kelly Washington. But yeah, Brady had a great season last year with a very mediocre corps, there's no getting around that.
― polyphonic, Monday, 12 November 2007 17:56 (eighteen years ago)
yeah, i'd watch some more of that Championship game before claiming that Reche Caldwell is a better receiver than anyone else.
but OTM about Philip Rivers. why isn't the media coming down on this dude like a million pounds of coal slurry on a small Welsh town?
― Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 12 November 2007 18:00 (eighteen years ago)
That's partly because the team acquired three star wide receivers and another good one in Kelly Washington.
i suppose. i guess it would have been more to the point to note that despite being brady's #1 option last year he's barely hung on with washington (zero catches in two games w/8 dnp's).
― chicago kevin, Monday, 12 November 2007 18:01 (eighteen years ago)
uh you may have forgotten abt reggie wayne who played last night and is obv better than anyone the pats had last year
and nooooooo one was called dante stallworth or wes welker "star receivers" before they played w/manning. not to mention the consensus on moss was "washed up"
― jhøshea, Monday, 12 November 2007 18:05 (eighteen years ago)
Trust me, I know all about Reche Caldwell. He was pretty mediocre with the Chargers too.
― polyphonic, Monday, 12 November 2007 18:06 (eighteen years ago)
uh before they played w/brady + "calling"
― jhøshea, Monday, 12 November 2007 18:06 (eighteen years ago)
I guess we're not reading the same articles. Everything I read said that the Patriots had massively upgraded their receivers. Tom Walsh said Moss was washed up (maybe from his B&B) but that's about it.
Stallworth was a first round pick who was never healthy. When he's been on the field, he's always been spectacular. And people were calling the Welker trade a steal from the beginning, especially white east-coast sportswriters.
― polyphonic, Monday, 12 November 2007 18:09 (eighteen years ago)
Yeah, as soon as I heard the Pats got Welker, I thought "oh boy, here we go." I could NEVER figure out why the Dolphins failed to really integrate him into the game in any way other than a returner.
― Johnny Fever, Monday, 12 November 2007 18:16 (eighteen years ago)
the thing that impresses me most about brady, and I think it comes from practicing with his receivers against belichick's brand of defense, is his timing. this year he's had little trouble in the pocket, probably the best pass rush he's faced was the colts, but he & his targets obviously put in serious reps on the routes and manage to put everything where it needs to be time and time again. you barely see any pats receiver having to juggle on a catch except for moss on deep routes where he's well covered.
manning's got excellent timing with his regular guys as well but not having clark or harrison has obviously hurt him, which speaks to either a lack of proper reps with his 2nd teamers or some other mystery factor about the way they practice or who knows what. for all I know the way the colts first team plays against the cover two is actually some really intense alchemical stuff and gonzales et al. just haven't picked up the routes yet. but as pointed out, welcome to brady's career.
last but not least, I would take the pats' D over the colts' in practically any season from the past decade. it was wholly appropriate that the SI cover after they beat Indy featured all five starting linebackers (all over 30, all producing like mad, again).
― El Tomboto, Monday, 12 November 2007 18:17 (eighteen years ago)
Everything I read said that the Patriots had massively upgraded their receivers.
the two aren't mutually exclusive. it gives you some insight into how terrible the pats receivers were last year. bam morris, richochet caldwell, 88 year old troy brown, etc.
― chicago kevin, Monday, 12 November 2007 18:23 (eighteen years ago)
wait, bam childress, sorry. i'm flashing back.
― chicago kevin, Monday, 12 November 2007 18:24 (eighteen years ago)
was that even his name? fuck, i'm toast today.
bam childress, kelvin kight, chad jackson, and jabar gaffney rounded out the receiving corps(e).
― chicago kevin, Monday, 12 November 2007 18:25 (eighteen years ago)
yeah welker and stallworth have zero 1k yard seasons between them and only 1 800+ one. theyre good, but obv not stars.
its funny to hear the descriptions of welker as the season goes on from, fiesty to chrebet-lite to omg best 3rd down hot read dude evar!!!
― jhøshea, Monday, 12 November 2007 18:28 (eighteen years ago)
fiesty to chrebet-lite to omg best 3rd down hot read dude evar!!!
he is having some kind of weird "troy brown crossed with tim dwight" kind of year though.
― chicago kevin, Monday, 12 November 2007 18:53 (eighteen years ago)
how much is the brady factor?
― jhøshea, Monday, 12 November 2007 18:54 (eighteen years ago)
it really helps to be constantly hit in stride, and especially when you operate in the middle of the field, to have yr qb never leave you in a fucked up situation
― jhøshea, Monday, 12 November 2007 18:56 (eighteen years ago)
you can't leave out the fact that this year he's playing with all kinds of time. as some other folks pointed out, can't remember if it was on NFLN or FO.com or both or here or what but a BIG difference in the 2nd half against the colts was that they gave the o-line a little more help against the pass rush and boom, production. an extra unhurried 450 milliseconds to reverse momentum from the drop and step into your throw is some important shit. the o-line, receivers and brady are all just functioning like clockwork. run blocking appears to have suffered as a result but hey who gives a fuck?
― El Tomboto, Monday, 12 November 2007 19:55 (eighteen years ago)
anyway brady=v.good, but I think I'm more impressedawed by the way the whole team is just a machine this year. it's like watching a bugatti on a test track.
― El Tomboto, Monday, 12 November 2007 19:57 (eighteen years ago)
yeah the o line has been nuts in protection (and the whole team is just scary dialed in)
― jhøshea, Monday, 12 November 2007 19:59 (eighteen years ago)
even in the pats-free week the thread becomes alll pats talk!!
― johnny crunch, Monday, 12 November 2007 20:37 (eighteen years ago)
are the receivers being scary good this year causing more teams to drop more defenders into coverage vs. sending them on blitzes? last year you could say "fuck it, i'll send the house and let my borderline cornerbacks match up against jabar gaffney and ricochet calldwell. this year you have to keep one safety doubling moss, one playing centerfield, a fith db for welker and one lb for the watson. that leaves you with one corner on stallworth, one lb on the running back and the four rushers.
i think that's why he's had more time, not so much improved play by the o-line, the o-line has more blockers than there are pass rushers this year.
― chicago kevin, Monday, 12 November 2007 22:20 (eighteen years ago)
hey good point kevin
― jhøshea, Monday, 12 November 2007 22:24 (eighteen years ago)

we're gonna be ulcer bros by the time we're 40.
― chicago kevin, Monday, 12 November 2007 22:37 (eighteen years ago)
one lb for the watson
what does this even mean? "the watson"?
― chicago kevin, Monday, 12 November 2007 22:49 (eighteen years ago)
haha all patriots tight ends to now be referred to as the watson
― El Tomboto, Monday, 12 November 2007 22:51 (eighteen years ago)
I knew what you meant
i say when ever a pats te outruns a slower linebacker or overpowers a smaller db it should be dubbed "giving him the watson".
― chicago kevin, Monday, 12 November 2007 22:54 (eighteen years ago)
IT'S ELEMENTARY!

― chicago kevin, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 14:49 (eighteen years ago)
at this pint i think we can reasonably shoot for #2
― jhøshea, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 14:57 (eighteen years ago)
they. i don't wear a uniform and the kraft family doesn't sign my paycheck.
― chicago kevin, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 15:01 (eighteen years ago)
assuming the pats have a top, say 8 pick, what position do they draft? i'm assuming no one will want to trade with them out of fear of making goliath stronger or for not wanting to look like fools by coming out on the short end of the stick. kind of like how no one would trade with the celtics by the mid 80s after the robert parish & kevin mchale for joe barry carrol heist.
― chicago kevin, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 15:03 (eighteen years ago)
ok well im going to go ahead and shoot for #2 you can do as you like. eh linebackers are old maybe one of those. or maybe some sort of hotshot rb. i dont really follow the college football so i couldnt say whos good.
― jhøshea, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 15:14 (eighteen years ago)
i was assuming linebacker as everyone is aged back there (the kid from penn state or maybe laurinaitis if he comes out would look good). or maybe a corner given the problems with assante samuel this past offseason.
― chicago kevin, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 15:17 (eighteen years ago)
ha!
WHICH kid from penn state? connor's a senior and lee's a junior. both are pretty beastly.
― j.q higgins, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 15:44 (eighteen years ago)
connor. i get a lot of big ten football here in the midwest, he's impressive.
