serious question: anyone know what the scheduling rules are in the nfl? more specifically, why have the dolphins played in pittsburgh two years in a row? you would think the dolphins would have gotten them at home this year.

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 20 November 2007 21:15 (eighteen years ago)

packers + lions= finally a good and meaningful thxgiving game.

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 20 November 2007 21:16 (eighteen years ago)

schedules are based on a formula based on where teams finish. they didn't play pittsburgh, per se, two times in a row, they played the team that finished in pittsburgh's slot two years in a row.

chicago kevin, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 21:39 (eighteen years ago)

here's more accurate information.

chicago kevin, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 21:43 (eighteen years ago)

Well that made my head throb.

Pleasant Plains, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 21:52 (eighteen years ago)

no, it's handy! you know who your team is going to play next year at the end of week 17! learn to love math!!

chicago kevin, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 22:39 (eighteen years ago)

I don't like interconference weirdness.Tampa should never have any reason to go to Buffalo.

Pleasant Plains, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 22:57 (eighteen years ago)

My new football scheduling rule would be that the team with the best record should host the Super Bowl. Since the Super Bowl is an economic shot in the arm for the host city there's no reason the same 6 cities should get the benefit all the damn time. Plus adding a hint of weather to the Super Bowl would be make the game more interesting. The rain last year in Miami was awesome and the clouds should be seeded in the skies of every host city a week before the game.

Plus adding a hint of weather to the Super Bowl would be make the game more interesting.

remember the year (82?) when it was in detroit and there was a snowstorm and the team bus for one of the teams almost didn't make it in time for the game?

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 01:04 (eighteen years ago)

After 15 years in warm weather venues, the Super Bowl moved to the Pontiac Silverdome in January of 1982. And on a day that saw the wind chill dip below zero, 81,270 football fans settled into the warmth of the spacious dome to enjoy Super Bowl XVI between the Cincinnati Bengals and the San Francisco 49ers.

omg I fogot about that

brownie, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 02:28 (eighteen years ago)

and I lived in MI at the time

brownie, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 02:29 (eighteen years ago)

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 04:52 (eighteen years ago)

yeah how bad are this weeks games? when det v. gb is the only remotely good matchup i dont need to be drunk to tell you wk 12 should be aborted

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 04:53 (eighteen years ago)

my dad was still a season ticket holder in '79. he said the '78 team was probably the best one he saw, better than the '76 team that *should* have beat the raiders in the playoffs if not for the phantom roughing the passer call against sugar bear hamilton. it was weird seeing ron erhart's name when i clicked on that link, he was the coach that eventually drove the pats into the ground. and also the guy who first brought bill parcells to new england.

check out the stats back then, totally different game. '79 was the last year before grogan's knees totally went out on him. probably his best year statistically, 3200 yards passing, 28 tds, and he could still run. in '78 the pats had three running backs rush for at least 675 yards and then had grogan run for 539. those are stats that some southwest conference team from the early '80s would put up when running the wishbone offense.

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 05:03 (eighteen years ago)

o idk, phi @ ne is gonna be da hottness imho

hou @ cle could be entertaining too

cankles, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 05:06 (eighteen years ago)

ok yeah the clev is entertaining every week.

phi/ne will be over after like half a quarter. line is insanely TWENTY-TWO AND A HALF and that is prob too little

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 14:20 (eighteen years ago)

Miami@Pitt might be interesting if the Steelers continue to play down to the competition. You have to beat the bad teams. This is why all the blather about NE running up the score makes no sense. I've watched several games this year alone where teams who are behind 10 to 20 points come back to either win or make it close. This is is the pros, if you don't want the score run up on you, stop the offense.

leavethecapital, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 14:59 (eighteen years ago)

what's the over/under in the pats game? because westbrook is exactly the kind of back who gives their d fits. plus the pats are gonna score like 90 points so.... take the over.

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 15:16 (eighteen years ago)

they lost and all, but remember how the skins shredded the eagles d w/ james thrash a couple weeks back?

que barbaro.

j.q higgins, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 16:55 (eighteen years ago)

scoresandodds.com says Patriots' o/u is currently at 50. Cleveland and Houston are at 52.

Pleasant Plains, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 17:12 (eighteen years ago)

pats could put that up themselves. SMART MONEY'S ON THE OVER!

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 18:02 (eighteen years ago)

i predict belichick punts on 1st and goal five times in the 1st half just so he can be all what'd want me to do go for the td? in the presser

What if the ball goes through the uprights??

Leee, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 22:30 (eighteen years ago)

touchback, unless it was a dropkick.

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 22:53 (eighteen years ago)

Packers - Detroit can't stop the pass and has a terrible running game, so unless Favre has one of his particularly bad dome games and throws a bunch of interceptions or the Lions get a TD off of a return, I don't see how the Lions can win.

Dallas - I'd like to see the Jets win two in a row, I don't think it will happen.

Indy - The Colts have some injury problems, but so does Atlanta. I can't see the Falcons winning.

Texans - Houston has got Andre Johnson and Schaub healthy and are quietly back to .500 at 5-5. I could see taking that over bet for this game as both teams D is in the lower parts of the NFL.

Seahawks - I want to take the Rams to win their third in a row, but I just cannot pull the trigger.

Giants - The Giant's offense has been sputtering and their defense is getting nicked up. NYG's are pretty decent stopping the run, so even if Petersen plays, I think they should have enough to beat the Vikings.

Tampa - I'm picking the Bucs, but I don't feel good on the pick as I think they are not any better than Washington. Campbell looked pretty sharp against the Cowboys and they were a play or two away in that game.

Carolina - If you could take the Panthers D and put them with the Saints offense you might have one good club. NO could win, especially if they get up a couple of scores.

Tennesee - The Titans' D has been giving up some yards in the past few weeks after being tough early in the year. Cinci's offense is just not in step, they make stupid plays at the wrong time. They move the ball all over the place but drop passes in the endzone or get penalties that lead to field goals instead of TDs.

KC - This will be a fugly game, but that is the Chiefs' kind of game.

Arizona - SF might be a playoff team if they had an offense, especially with their defense. Arizona has some impressive athletes. I had not seen Larry Fitzgerald play outside of highlights, that guy can catch some passes.

Chargers - SD is not going anywhere, but the Ravens are not getting it done.

Bears- Denver has been up and down all year, I figure this is their down week.

NE - I'd love to see Jim Johnson's defense create some serious pain for NE, but more likely those blitzes will get turned into completed bombs for big yards.

Steelers - After last week, I think Pittsburgh is totally suspect. They have a bunch of wins and the talking heads are hot on them, but criminy they have lost now to the Jets, Arizona and Denver. They are not terrible or anything, but they are getting the benefit of a easy schedule like this week with Miami.

earlnash, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 23:37 (eighteen years ago)

The wheels are coming off slowly, but surely, for Pittsburgh. They'll win this weekend (probably) and have a easy schedule the rest of the way for the most part but Big Ben is taking hits like he's never before. Pitt gave up four sacks to Clevo who couldn't rush a Who concert before that game. Roffles was limping around the Jets last Sunday as well. Parker and Davenport haven't been the ambiguously 1000 yard duo like I thought. Troy P still blitz's but can't get to the QB like he should be- have teams figured out how to block that blitz? DA for the Browns was never sacked in their heartbreaker which is mind blowing.

Their D is still good and they'll win the division by one game but I don't think Roffles is going last the season.

brownie, Thursday, 22 November 2007 00:35 (eighteen years ago)

is aikman starting to sound a little like madden? i mean, still way more coherent & tolerable but something tells me he isnt going to age well.

johnny crunch, Thursday, 22 November 2007 18:27 (eighteen years ago)

it's just the tone of his voice, thankfully not what he says.

hstencil, Thursday, 22 November 2007 18:40 (eighteen years ago)

spread in pats/eagles game = 22 points.
ppg eagles are giving up this year = 18.7.

i don't think i've ever seen a game where the spread was more than what the underdog gives up per game.

chicago kevin, Friday, 23 November 2007 17:31 (seventeen years ago)

There are currently 18 teams in the NFL who are 4-6, 5-5, or 6-4 (I'm including the 6-5 Lions here).

polyphonic, Sunday, 25 November 2007 18:41 (seventeen years ago)

the bills look just brutal so far.

rogermexico., Sunday, 25 November 2007 19:02 (seventeen years ago)

meanwhile, Tarvaris Jackson seems to be coming along nicely! 5-7 for 101 and a td and only sacked twice so far by that Giants line

Not the most exciting Browns game ever, but they got the job done.

Of all the games on the schedule this week, I'd have never pegged the Broncos/Bears one to be even in the top 10 of most watchable. But it sure is.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 26 November 2007 00:13 (seventeen years ago)

hah this game is awesome kick returns bombs blocked punt rb pushed into endzone by o line !!!!

jhøshea, Monday, 26 November 2007 00:14 (seventeen years ago)

The Bears should just try to play special teams and forget about this whole offense and defense thing.

the team that wins the coin toss wins over 60% of nfl overtimes.

Hunt3r, Monday, 26 November 2007 00:54 (seventeen years ago)

Wow that was really a cool game to watch...rain, mud, kick returns, punt returns, blocked punts, big field goals & bomb passes.

Some Denver fans are probably having to hide the razor after this one. Losing this game and getting completely demolished a couple of times earlier this year, this has to be the most trying season for some Bronco fans in quite a few season.

earlnash, Monday, 26 November 2007 00:56 (seventeen years ago)

The data appear to support the notion that the football team scoring first in sudden-death overtime is usually the one that had won the coin toss and received the ball.

Interestingly, the cumulative data hide the effect of a rule change that occurred in 1994, when kickoffs were moved back 5 yards to the 30-yard line. Since 1994, nearly one-third of overtime games have been won on the first possession by the team that received the ball first. In the first 20 seasons, under the old rule, slightly more than one-quarter of the games were won in this fashion.

A recent analysis by economist Richard E. Hawkins of Pennsylvania State University in DuBois confirms that these differences are statistically significant.

"The analysis finds with 99.99 % certainty that the coin flip has made a difference in the outcome of the game over the last 10 years," he concludes. "But for the period prior to those 10 years, the coin flip cannot be shown to be important."

Would a first-to-six overtime rule do any better?

In the current issue of the College Mathematics Journal, Michael A. Jones of Montclair State University in New Jersey uses a probability model and data from the 2002 NFL regular season to compare the current overtime rule with the suggested first-to-six rule. His analysis looks at the impact of the coin toss on both the outcome of the game and the efficiency of eliminating ties.

Using a so-called Markov chain model, Jones examines the consequences of sudden-death overtime on two fairly matched teams, assuming that both teams have equal probabilities of scoring a touchdown and kicking a field goal. He does the same for the first-to-six proposal.

"The first-to-six proposal does decrease the probabilities that the receiving team wins the game on the first possession and that they win the game eventually," Jones concludes. However, "although the first-to-six rule reduces the impact of the coin toss on the outcome of the game, it is less efficient at eliminating ties."

Applied to 2002 data, the model developed by Jones suggests that the team winning the coin toss and receiving the ball would win with a probability of 49 percent under the first-to-six rule (versus 60 percent for sudden-death overtime). The probability of games ending in a tie would rise to 12 percent (versus 9 percent).

Is the suggested rule worth implementing?

"This reduction in the impact of the coin toss on the outcome of the game is a trade-off because of the increase in the number of tie games," Jones writes. "Although fans would be happy that the outcome of the game is decided less by luck and more by play on the field, coaches may regret Monday morning quarterbacks second-guessing their decisions of whether or not to attempt field goals in overtime. Scoring three points still gives the other team an opportunity to score a touchdown and win the game."

"One thing is certain," he adds. "The first-to-six proposal increases the probability that fans will discuss the National Football League in the off-season."

Wow that was really a cool game to watch...rain, mud, kick returns, punt returns, blocked punts, big field goals & bomb passes.

it was freezing rain, i got caught in it on my way home and stopped at a bar to watch the first half because my face isn't used to being pelted by ice yet. i fucking hate chicago winters.

small price to pay to avoid 3 1/2 months of bone rattling cold followed by 4 1/2 months of oppressive heat and humidity.

chicago kevin, Monday, 26 November 2007 01:15 (seventeen years ago)

wait, that's wrong, that would mean there are 4 months where it's livable here and that's patently false. it's closer to 6 weeks.

chicago kevin, Monday, 26 November 2007 01:16 (seventeen years ago)

is it worse than boston/nyc?

jhøshea, Monday, 26 November 2007 01:17 (seventeen years ago)

i spent my first 25 years in new england and it's so much worse. not nearly as much snow but it gets so much colder and stays really cold longer. there's not much spring, maybe two weeks a year before it gets unbearably hot and humid. you know how boston in july is a sweat box? that starts in mid june and doesn't let up until september here. this is the longest fall we've had since i moved here and it was sprinkled with one week where it went from 35 to 74 in two days. once the wind starts blowing across the prairie forget it.

chicago kevin, Monday, 26 November 2007 01:22 (seventeen years ago)

that does sound pretty bad

jhøshea, Monday, 26 November 2007 01:24 (seventeen years ago)

this game has the largest point spread for an nfl game not involving an expansion team

jhøshea, Monday, 26 November 2007 01:46 (seventeen years ago)

23 1/2 points fyi

jhøshea, Monday, 26 November 2007 01:47 (seventeen years ago)

and thats only .5 lower than when the champ steelers played the expansion bucs in 76

jhøshea, Monday, 26 November 2007 01:48 (seventeen years ago)

the steelers covered

jhøshea, Monday, 26 November 2007 01:49 (seventeen years ago)

i wonder what the biggest spread was when the underdog won outright

jhøshea, Monday, 26 November 2007 01:50 (seventeen years ago)

someone was trying to tell me they took it off the board in vegas, like in every sportsbook you can no longer bet on pats games...i nodded along, oh hmm you dont say, and all, but there is just no way thats true.

johnny crunch, Monday, 26 November 2007 01:52 (seventeen years ago)

the only way they'd take it off the board is if someone laid some heavy cake on the eagles.

chicago kevin, Monday, 26 November 2007 01:53 (seventeen years ago)

like, real heavy.

chicago kevin, Monday, 26 November 2007 01:53 (seventeen years ago)

johnny crunch, Monday, 26 November 2007 01:57 (seventeen years ago)

covered? was the the Mich./ App St on the board?

BROWNS ETC

hellava thing, that game. Rookie CB replaces a rookie CB and the Browns win it...

Figured it for a shoot out.

Eagles O looking good so far.

brownie, Monday, 26 November 2007 01:59 (seventeen years ago)

i dont think there are generally lines on I-A vs I-AA games.

ive read that stanford-usc this year was the largest spread ever in cfb where the underdog won outright...it was like USC -39 or something.

im more wondering about bullshit games when its like UF vs. Fla International...i mean, there have to have been games w/ lines in the 50s.

johnny crunch, Monday, 26 November 2007 02:21 (seventeen years ago)

um... this pats game is actually pretty good. mcnabb-less eagles puttin' up a fight

Mr. Snrub, Monday, 26 November 2007 03:07 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, interesting to see what the pats do in a game. they haven't been in one since they played the cowboys.

chicago kevin, Monday, 26 November 2007 03:08 (seventeen years ago)

since mauroney apparently isn't playing it looks like my other fantasy team will collect a grand total of -1 points from my rb & rb/wr positions today. i will lose that game.

chicago kevin, Monday, 26 November 2007 03:10 (seventeen years ago)

really, tom brady shoulda been in a Kubrick movie.

Pleasant Plains, Monday, 26 November 2007 03:16 (seventeen years ago)

I FOR ONE AM ENJOYING FOOTBALL AGAIN.

!!!!

horseshoe, Monday, 26 November 2007 03:42 (seventeen years ago)

go Eagles. I am SICK of hearing this undefeated talk. There is usually at least one team a decade that is head and shoulders above the rest of the pack, but why is it that only one has gone undefeated?

Besides...with the expansion to 16 games, it all but guarantees wrapping up home field by the 14th game if you wind up starting 14-0, and do you play your starters in both meaningless games?

Law of averages means they'll find a way to lose. Hopefully TONIGHT. doesn't mean they still won't win the SB, but I sure hope they don't cuz I fucking hate the Pats and always have

J0rdan S., Monday, 26 November 2007 03:57 (seventeen years ago)

and do you play your starters in both meaningless games?

why not, they've already got multiple superbowl rings. why not do something no one else has done?

chicago kevin, Monday, 26 November 2007 03:58 (seventeen years ago)

Yea, but the only reason anybody talks about Miami's undefeated season in 1973 is because it continued through the playoffs. Absolutely NOBODY would have given a crap about it if they had lost in the playoffs or Super Bowl, because it would have been trivia, nothing more.

I'm not saying it would happen, but if you played starters in games that meant nothing, and one or more of them got cheap shotted and missed the playoffs, and you lost as a result....you'd be second guessing that one forever.

A lot of people blasted Dungy for not playing his starters in 05 but I don't think that's why Indy lost. Pittsburgh just flat out out played them. They were a little flat, but Pittsburgh looked inspired in that game

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Monday, 26 November 2007 04:01 (seventeen years ago)

they should and would play their starters.

J0rdan S., Monday, 26 November 2007 04:02 (seventeen years ago)

Yea, but the only reason anybody talks about Miami's undefeated season in 1973 is because it continued through the playoffs.

who's saying the pat's wouldn't win in the playoffs? i'm saying they wouldn't rest their starters and take their chances with injuries just like everyone else.

chicago kevin, Monday, 26 November 2007 04:03 (seventeen years ago)

pat's? one singular patriot?

chicago kevin, Monday, 26 November 2007 04:04 (seventeen years ago)

ehh, I will disagree. It's basically saying "a championship not our top priority, the record books are".

nor do I believe you need to play starters for the entirety of a game that means nothing to keep them "fresh" for the playoffs. It sure hasn't been the case for prior super bowl winners! Bummer for the paying fans, sure, but it happens in all sports.

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Monday, 26 November 2007 04:04 (seventeen years ago)

again I'm not saying they WOULD lose in the playoffs, but I'm saying merely going 16-0 in the Regular season isn't impressive at all without the championship to go with it

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Monday, 26 November 2007 04:05 (seventeen years ago)

"It's basically saying "a championship not our top priority, the record books are"."

no, it's saying "we treat every game equally and take nothing for granted".

chicago kevin, Monday, 26 November 2007 04:05 (seventeen years ago)

the way the pats play (at least offensively) is very conducive to not getting hurt. brady rarely gets hit and their wrs rarely take direct hits. unless it was a fluke knee buckle or something...

J0rdan S., Monday, 26 November 2007 04:06 (seventeen years ago)

why would you take your starters out for three straight weeks? that makes no sense at all. in fact, it sounds like a recipe for losing in their first playoff game.

chicago kevin, Monday, 26 November 2007 04:06 (seventeen years ago)

well I've been saying that all year--nobody can lay a hand on Brady due to his o-line. but you can't ever predict injuries. Dan Marino was lost for the season in the early 90s merely hopping while looking for an open receiver against the Browns.

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Monday, 26 November 2007 04:07 (seventeen years ago)

but you can't ever predict injuries.

well then again, why wouldn't you start your starters if that's true?

chicago kevin, Monday, 26 November 2007 04:08 (seventeen years ago)

why would you take your starters out for three straight weeks? that makes no sense at all. in fact, it sounds like a recipe for losing in their first playoff game.

Show me where I said three straight weeks. I said two, and never said sit them for both games, I questioned playing them in both games.

no, it's saying "we treat every game equally and take nothing for granted".

If you've wrapped up home field advantage, there's nothing to take for granted--you already locked it up.

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Monday, 26 November 2007 04:10 (seventeen years ago)

well then again, why wouldn't you start your starters if that's true?

Because the game means nothing but keeping your starters healthy is?

I'm not sure I subscribe to the adage that the moment you clinch home field throughout, you bench everybody, but I don't believe in the polar opposite in continuing to play the starters for 4 quarters.

Plus, you know this year is different--the Pats have agitated many around the league with their supposed "running up the score", and someone may take it personally and commit a cheap shot. So far we haven't seen it and I think most of the players have too much class for that, but you never know.

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Monday, 26 November 2007 04:11 (seventeen years ago)

ugh wtf please don't turn this into every other football board ever

El Tomboto, Monday, 26 November 2007 04:11 (seventeen years ago)

I said two

which would be the last two weeks of the regular season then the first week of the playoffs.

chicago kevin, Monday, 26 November 2007 04:12 (seventeen years ago)

seriously if they said it on espn.com in september you probably don't need to repeat it here with a straight face

El Tomboto, Monday, 26 November 2007 04:12 (seventeen years ago)

Because the game means nothing but keeping your starters healthy is?

i don't think this team thinks ANY game is "worth nothing".

except maybe the two they play against the dolphins. zing!

chicago kevin, Monday, 26 November 2007 04:13 (seventeen years ago)

see BJO, that is how we discuss things here. fuck you and your paper bag hat

horseshoe, Monday, 26 November 2007 04:16 (seventeen years ago)

hey, if the players were all machines, I'd be all for that. and if there's one coach who will do it, it will be Belichick this year. but I wouldn't do it--not that it matters since I'm not a coach, but hey...back to the game

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Monday, 26 November 2007 04:18 (seventeen years ago)

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Monday, 26 November 2007 04:22 (seventeen years ago)

what was up w/the last play call by philly, wtf

http://planetwebdesign.com/americacries1agc.jpg

max, Monday, 26 November 2007 05:23 (seventeen years ago)

"the last play called by philly" would be another song, this one devoted to Andy "I manage the clock like I manage my kids" Reid's entire career as HC. Dude is right up there with Gibbs and Coughlin. I think I like the NFC East so much because it reminds me of the SEC, everybody could be a contender, but year after year they're so tired from killing each other they forget to show up for the championship

El Tomboto, Monday, 26 November 2007 05:30 (seventeen years ago)

WOWO THAT GAME WTF EAGLES WHERE DID THAT COME FROM

jhøshea, Monday, 26 November 2007 05:31 (seventeen years ago)

At any rate I thank the Eagles organization very much for making Packers-Cowboys seem like it could be very important e.g. an NFC team could actually beat the bastards holy shit

El Tomboto, Monday, 26 November 2007 05:31 (seventeen years ago)

feely played the game of his life bookened by two awful ints - were it not for those holy shit

jhøshea, Monday, 26 November 2007 05:36 (seventeen years ago)

i mean the pats only won this game cause they won turnovers

jhøshea, Monday, 26 November 2007 05:37 (seventeen years ago)

I honestly think they won just because the iggles didn't have as good an answer for WW as they had in Lito Sheppard vs. Moss

El Tomboto, Monday, 26 November 2007 05:38 (seventeen years ago)

yah that too ww came up huuuuge

jhøshea, Monday, 26 November 2007 05:39 (seventeen years ago)

this game is going to be getting heavy replay in the film rooms belonging to teams whose HC's names end in "-lin"

El Tomboto, Monday, 26 November 2007 05:59 (seventeen years ago)

it tells you everything you need to know about how to bring a working D to the pats; they basically dared belichick to beat them with the run, but didn't cover the short inside routes that welker runs close enough. he had like three tacklers on him every time he got the ball, but they were all like five yards too late

El Tomboto, Monday, 26 November 2007 06:01 (seventeen years ago)

i mean the pats only won this game cause they won turnovers

i dunno, given that my other team is Redskins, half the season it's been "they only lost this game because of [insert stupid mistake here]"..

daria-g, Monday, 26 November 2007 06:13 (seventeen years ago)

i mean the pats only won this game cause they won turnovers

yeah, luckily defense isn't a major part of the game.

chicago kevin, Monday, 26 November 2007 15:23 (seventeen years ago)

yah yah im just sayin two awful passes amid a bunch of great ones - pats played bad

jhøshea, Monday, 26 November 2007 15:25 (seventeen years ago)

but whatever bullet dodged - i doubt teams will have much success replicating this game - just one of those things

jhøshea, Monday, 26 November 2007 15:27 (seventeen years ago)

pats played terribly on defense, didn't play their best on offense (but wtf, still scored 31 on an off night) and still came out on top.

they are truly the worst undefeated team in the league right now.

chicago kevin, Monday, 26 November 2007 16:19 (seventeen years ago)

wher are the "lol at Eli" posts?????????

Sean Taylor shot and critically wounded at home during possible robbery:

omar little, Monday, 26 November 2007 17:03 (seventeen years ago)

not just shot...shot in the groin!

(which as a fellow skins and simpsons fan noted is not nearly as funny as being hit in the groin w/ a football)

oh hey, shoulda seen this before posting my other dealie. tom plz to delete that, thank you.

sean t "clinging to life"

http://blog.washingtonpost.com/redskinsinsider/

J0rdan S., Monday, 26 November 2007 20:20 (seventeen years ago)

this is obviously really awful. it seems like he might have been at home because someone had been trying to break into his house a lot last week. hopefully this has nothing to do with the stuff he was involved in last year. i mean i hope if he or his house was being targeted it was because people wanted his jewelry or his cars or his money not his life or that of his girlfriend or child. this happened about 5 minutes from my house. very scary. really hope dude pulls through.

J0rdan S., Monday, 26 November 2007 20:24 (seventeen years ago)

sad, scary

jhøshea, Monday, 26 November 2007 20:33 (seventeen years ago)

guy who writes for the miami herald says his playing career is possibly over due to damage to brain from blood loss and lack of oxygen.

J0rdan S., Monday, 26 November 2007 21:06 (seventeen years ago)

yeah. i actually recall in high school that one of the maintenance guys died when sawing some lumber w/ a table saw. a small piece of wood apparently hit him in the leg and w/o even breaking the skin, severed the femoral artery and the guy died pretty quickly.

from the sound of things w/ sean taylor, i would be very surprised if he plays again if he even survives. this is very sad.

j.q higgins, Monday, 26 November 2007 22:10 (seventeen years ago)

I'd just be worried about his survival at this point
