as someone w/o cable or any sort of satellite tv i've never seen the real adam schefter (sans ha ha's) until tonight.

also- plax burress against ellis hobbs will give me the shits before this night is over if something doesn't change.

horseshoe, Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:00 (seventeen years ago)

this has probably got to be the most entertaining meaningless* week 17 game in the last 20 years.

(*Meaningless refers just to the fact that it does not affect playoff seeding.)

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:01 (seventeen years ago)

for some reason listening to bryant gumble makes me nostalgic for the days when beasley reese used to call games on nbc. he was the worst announcer ever and only tolerable when i started to wake and bake post-high school.

chicago kevin, Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:01 (seventeen years ago)

something about that kickoff return made me want to jump through the tv and hug the dude

i hope all of the people who never have seen nfl network are all googling adam schefter right now

if there is a just god in heaven they are.

chicago kevin, Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:07 (seventeen years ago)

the ref dancing was the funniest thing I've ever seen

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:08 (seventeen years ago)

so so far this is turning into an Arena Football game. Giants have no defensive stops (as defined as a stop resulting in no points on the drive).

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:09 (seventeen years ago)

dude holding the pats to field goals is basically the equivalent of creating safeties every drive on other teams.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:10 (seventeen years ago)

chicago kevin, Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:13 (seventeen years ago)

horseshoe, Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:14 (seventeen years ago)

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:15 (seventeen years ago)

someone tell Ellis Hobbs that he shouldn't be getting in a shoving match with anybody that's...well...male. watching him fall over was entertaining.

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:15 (seventeen years ago)

this will probably end up like the eagles game including a boneheaded interception from eli manning

J0rdan S., Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:16 (seventeen years ago)

watching schefter interview godell 3 inches from his face was one of the most uncomfortable moments i can remember in a while

J0rdan S., Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:17 (seventeen years ago)

don't say things like that the football Gods are listening

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:17 (seventeen years ago)

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:21 (seventeen years ago)

Jesus christ doesn't anything come hard to the Patriots. goddammit.

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:21 (seventeen years ago)

Jesus christ doesn't anything come hard to the Patriots.

yes, it was called 1960 through 1994.

chicago kevin, Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:23 (seventeen years ago)

I was obviously speaking about the club on the field right now

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:24 (seventeen years ago)

oh, in that case no, they're too well coached to fuck themselves.

chicago kevin, Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:25 (seventeen years ago)

to fuck them elves. 'tis the season.

chicago kevin, Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:26 (seventeen years ago)

it does amuse me a little all the people who complain that the media talks too much about the Patriots.

I mean, I do not buy into the whole "The Patriots don't get enough respect" bullshit whatsoever, but at the same token, they're 15-0! why shouldn't the media be talking about them? If some other team was 15-0, they'd be doing the same thing.

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:27 (seventeen years ago)

it does amuse me a little all the people who complain that the media talks too much about the Patriots.

i read that as "it does amuse me when all the little people complain..." and i thought it was another elf reference.

now would be a good time for the aforementioned bonehead eli interception.

chicago kevin, Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:29 (seventeen years ago)

could cris collinsworth be any more of smug asshole? tell me more about the function of this "offensive line," Cris.

horseshoe, Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:30 (seventeen years ago)

it's gonna be tough to replace him, horseshoe

J0rdan S., Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:31 (seventeen years ago)

jic u didnt kno

J0rdan S., Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:31 (seventeen years ago)

no shit. Thanks for enlightening us on the o-line, Cris! I normally like CC tho.

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:32 (seventeen years ago)

how big is coughlin's stupid challenge early in the half looking now?

chicago kevin, Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:33 (seventeen years ago)

Wilfork should have been flagged

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:33 (seventeen years ago)

i love wilfork

J0rdan S., Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:34 (seventeen years ago)

wilfork is a fucking rock.

chicago kevin, Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:35 (seventeen years ago)

yeah collinsworth was making a huge deal abt how obvious it was that it was a drop (wasn't that obv) but failed to mention that it was a 12 yd pass on first down in the redzone 90 sec in to the game

J0rdan S., Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:35 (seventeen years ago)

oh my fucking god i hate the patriots. EYE POKING? SERIOUSLY?

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:36 (seventeen years ago)

lol colinsworth needs to stfu like wilfork tried to stomp on the back of the guy's knee

J0rdan S., Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:36 (seventeen years ago)

also oh my fucking god eli where have you been

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:36 (seventeen years ago)

"intent to annoy" otm

J0rdan S., Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:37 (seventeen years ago)

i haven't seen many giants games this year, how does eli usually fuck these situations up?

chicago kevin, Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:38 (seventeen years ago)

yea it wasn't an intent to injure but it still should have been a flag. At least to be consistent.

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:39 (seventeen years ago)

great suit on gumble

J0rdan S., Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:39 (seventeen years ago)

Ok, did everyone just see how relaxed Eli looked when he threw that?

I've never seen him look like that in his career. If he could control his nerves like that more often he'd be like his brother.

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:40 (seventeen years ago)

fucking arena football game.

final score Giants 69 Patriots 68

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:41 (seventeen years ago)

guys they know how to come from behind

J0rdan S., Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:42 (seventeen years ago)

yea it wasn't an intent to injure but it still should have been a flag. At least to be consistent.

uh, dude, calls are missed every game. that IS the one constant.

chicago kevin, Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:42 (seventeen years ago)

i don't know, i think eli's good at staying calm in general. but yeah, he looked all grown up on that drive. /cap'n save a manning

horseshoe, Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:43 (seventeen years ago)

these pleading nfl network commercials are obnoxious

J0rdan S., Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:45 (seventeen years ago)

uh, dude, calls are missed every game. that IS the one constant.

I know that--I was just stating he should have been flagged, not stating it's a complete outrage that they missed the call.

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:46 (seventeen years ago)

I'm really wondering whether it's better for Patriot haters if the Patriots go 16-0 rather than 15-1.

Being 16-0 would carry a lot of pressure into the postseason, since you pretty much have to win a Super Bowl for an undefeated season to be anything more than a cute factoid. Granted, the Patriots have never been a team to crumble under pressure, but being 15-1 makes them ordinary. Not ordinary in the sense that they aren't an amazing team, but that other teams have been 15-1 before and they won't have to worry about a media circus in the postseason and can just focus on playing.

I'm probably overanalyzing it though. If the Patriots play the way they've been playing, whoever they play will have to play a near-perfect game to beat them anyway.

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:49 (seventeen years ago)

eli never looks nervous. he looks like he doesn't give a shit. there's a huge difference between the two. the comments made about how he generally appears like he forgets he's even playing football were OTM on collinsworth's part, even though it created a really bizarre outrage from gumbel.

and the way eli "fucks things up" is that his receivers drop the ball an average of 73,872 times per game.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:50 (seventeen years ago)

His team does drop an abnormal amount of balls, but you have to admit that Eli makes a lot of boneheaded plays. I see more of them than I used to since there are Giant fans in my household.

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:52 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, but the point is he never seems stressed out. that's peyton.

horseshoe, Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:52 (seventeen years ago)

no, he definitely does throw some WTFy balls, but claiming that he makes a lot of them, or is somehow the problem with the giants' offense is like some kind of other level of WTFy. he makes 80% less boneheaded plays than, say, favre does but favre is having fun out there and eli is apparently a nitwit. it just can get infuriating.

of course, it's a lot more infuriating to watch him just consistently not give a shit.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:54 (seventeen years ago)

haha i still love the barton finky manningsmind.com commerical. what IS that about.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:55 (seventeen years ago)

No, Eli does make a lot of dumb decisions. I've seen him throw back across the field way too many times.

You are right OTM about Favre. Favre benefits from being a celebrity and holding many coveted NFL records--broadcasters have been felating him for years but he does sometimes just fling the ball up for grabs.

I actually believe that had he not been hurt and Aaron Rodgers not come in against the Cowboys, that the Packers may have been blown out badly in that game. Rodgers was taking what the defense gave him whereas Favre was just forcing it into heavy traffic.

I believe it was Dr. Z of Sports Illustrated that said Hell was a Brett Favre football game being broadcast by ESPN for all eternity.

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:57 (seventeen years ago)

there are like 3 qbs in the league who dont throw some WTFy balls

J0rdan S., Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:57 (seventeen years ago)

that should have said back across the middle of the field.

No doubt that Eli is talented, he's always had the potential to be in the upper echelon of QBs but he always falls short. I keep wondering if it's Coughlin.

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Sunday, 30 December 2007 02:59 (seventeen years ago)

THAT WAS A SICK PLAY

horseshoe, Sunday, 30 December 2007 03:07 (seventeen years ago)

^^^^agreed.

I was just kidding with my comment above, I'm actually really enjoying this game, but was remarking at how I'm tired of seeing teams blow leads against the Patsies.

That throw from Eli was...just wow. To have that pinpoint control.

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Sunday, 30 December 2007 03:08 (seventeen years ago)

how much you wanna bet if the Giants stretch the lead any further Belichick cops out and pulls his starters? (actually that isn't really a bad decision when you've clinched homefield).

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Sunday, 30 December 2007 03:09 (seventeen years ago)

Brady better not break Manning's record

i would like to take this opportunity to thank the oakland raiders for trading randy moss to the patriots. i hope that 4th round pick works out for you.

chicago kevin, Sunday, 30 December 2007 04:27 (seventeen years ago)

because i'm sure there are 240 or so college players in the upcoming draft who will be better than moss.

chicago kevin, Sunday, 30 December 2007 04:28 (seventeen years ago)

Well, I feel sick to my stomach now. Still, congratulations to the Patriots. As much as I hate their guts, it's an amazing feat to go 16-0 in a regular season. It won't mean much if they don't win the Super Bowl, but at this stage I'm wondering who is going to beat them.

What kills me is just how you see it coming all the time. The Patriots are composed and they wind up making the other team break down mentally. It's almost as if the teams start to get nervous when they have a lead in the third quarter because they know what's going to happen. Even I started to feel that dread and I'm not even on the team!

Seriously...I mean a 12 point lead in the third quarter is hardly an insurmountable lead but I thought maybe just this once someone would finish a game against the Patriots.

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Sunday, 30 December 2007 04:29 (seventeen years ago)

yah, im a giant fan and htey had no chance, cmon..who really thought they'd hang on to that lead?

johnny crunch, Sunday, 30 December 2007 04:34 (seventeen years ago)

In the back of my mind I saw the train coming but I was hoping the stars were aligned right for just once.

Really though my hat is off to the Giants. They played a very tough game against the Patriots, much tougher than I expected.

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Sunday, 30 December 2007 04:40 (seventeen years ago)

I just think it's funny that they seem to win their division by default each year since nobody else can typically be bothered to get to .500.

daria-g, Sunday, 30 December 2007 05:12 (seventeen years ago)

can't blame ya, although the Giants dashed any hopes of that with their lovely clock management.

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Sunday, 30 December 2007 05:13 (seventeen years ago)

I don't think breaking Jerry Rice's record was special, I think shutting you guys up was special.

Stormy Davis, Sunday, 30 December 2007 05:40 (seventeen years ago)

Clock management issue wasn't really on Eli to "speed it up", but it was on that garbage play to the middle of the field when the receiver was tackled and they had to burn their second time-out.

Take that away, and they would have put themselves in position to get the ball back regardless of whether they recovered the onside kick or not. Hell, they would have been better off kicking a field goal right then and there, over calling that play.

my favorite quotey thing this year was trent green on spygate back in september:

“I’m surprised this analogy hasn’t come up yet. Can’t you see Bill Belichick and Roger Goodell in the office having the conversation, and you picture Roger Goodell as Tom Cruise, and you picture Bill Belichick as Jack Nicholson. And they’re sitting in the courtroom, and they’re having this discussion, and all of a sudden Goodell is like, ‘Did you order a code red?!?!’”

– Dolphins quarterback Trent Green, sharing his cinematic vision of how it all went down

“And Belichick is sitting there. And you know he’s getting peeved because he’s even in there, that (Goodell/Cruise) has the audacity to bring him in and question it.”

– Green

“That’s the analogy and kind of the visual that I have, is that eventually Belichick just kinda snapped and went, ‘You’re darn right I ordered a code red!’”

– Green

“I don’t know, maybe I’m the only one that has that warped perception.”

– Green (Palm Beach Post)

Definitely the back-to-back bombz to Moss was the most LOL moment of the game ... like they just basically threw out any semblance of a normal drive, and just showed that they desperately wanted to SMASH the rekkerds.

So, no one's gonna give up the props to me for predicting this perfect Pats season on the Official 2007 NFL Thread about three months ago?

That's OK, your silence is props enough, I guess.

If Assholes Could Fly This Place Would Be An Airport, Sunday, 30 December 2007 08:05 (seventeen years ago)

ok props!

debating whether or not it is bad karma to predict the playoffs this time around.

Sun Feb 01, 2004 at 04:44:50 PM EST

daria-g, Sunday, 30 December 2007 08:25 (seventeen years ago)

Great game!! Now I know why Giants fans cry themselves to sleep every Sunday night. Eli is just good enough (giving you some glimmer of hope that this time it will be different) then ooops, fucked again...

The Pats defense is good, not great like the Ravens in 2001 or those mid-eighties Bears teams.
T
The Pats can be beat, but playing a perfect game in the only way to do it. The Giants' dropped passes, the blown coverages (truly one of the "what the fuck" moments in the game, and they did it twice!), Jacobs not running out of bounds stopping the clock, and Eli's killer interception were enough, giving the Pats the win.

Only the Colts have enough firepower and defense to stop them. The Jags don't have the offense or run defense. The Chargers? Only two words... Norv Turner, plus everyone overrates their talent anyways.

leavethecapital, Sunday, 30 December 2007 14:17 (seventeen years ago)

not to cast aspersions upon yr amaze accomplishment but this was def the most predicted perfect season ever - not to mention that its not complete yet xp

same thing this year v ravens but the neighbor woke me up yelling TOUCHDOWN :)

not going out on a limb yet for afc but i think dallas will lose nfc title game *if* they get there.

if y'all hadn't all acted like a bunch of mercury morrises 'cept minus both the actual finished perfect season and the ring (and the, uh, actually playing for the team in question i guess) it wouldn't be as hilarious.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Wednesday, 6 February 2008 17:02 (seventeen years ago)

well, when the Giants go undefeated through the reguar season - we can, of course, only pray that this happens in our lifetime - let's see how close your feet are to the ground. anyone who claims they wouldn't get over-excited watching their team play like the Pats did for most of this season can simultaneously stfu and gtfo 'cos they're playing themselves.

Roberto Spiralli, Wednesday, 6 February 2008 17:29 (seventeen years ago)

who was mercury morrising? the only time i crossed the line into stereotypical insane sports ranting was when dealing with bjo or when i was talking about peyton manning. and i talked a lot less shit about manning than anyone else here said about brady.
