Start nominating places to host the league this year.

Yahoo is out, I think, unless they provide free live scoring this time. I looked at NFL.com and CBS (basically the same setup for both), but the scoring isn't customizable at all and I kind of liked IDP scoring last year. Anyone know if ESPN scoring is customizable and IDP inclusive?

Any other ideas?

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 4 June 2008 21:55 (seventeen years ago)

Anyone know if ESPN scoring is customizable and IDP inclusive?

yes. i'll be in this year if we can have fewer players. i lost interest when i couldn't even field a full team.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 5 June 2008 16:12 (seventeen years ago)

idp was prob the best thing abt the league last year.

free live scoring isnt that big of a deal. i mean you can easily figure out yourself how someone is doing just from updated box scores

johnny crunch, Thursday, 5 June 2008 16:21 (seventeen years ago)

Next year, I [i]will not be the commissioner...no way, no how! However, yeah...I think the Yahoo! standard for league approved trades is 1/3 disapproval and is probably the same in other fantasy leagues too.

i nominate ROCK HARDY 4 commish if he will do it. i mean, just on the name alone that dude is SOLID

johnny crunch, Thursday, 5 June 2008 16:41 (seventeen years ago)

Next year, I will not be the commissioner...no way, no how!

Oh, don't think I've forgotten. But I am eager to go ahead and start getting excited about it.

Also, to kevin's point, I say we keep the league to 12 teams or less this year.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 5 June 2008 22:18 (seventeen years ago)

not fewer teams, fewer positions on each team. in my other league we had smaller rosters and it made things more competitive.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 5 June 2008 22:22 (seventeen years ago)

1 qb, 1 rb, 2 wr, 1 te, 1 k, 2 idp?

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 5 June 2008 22:27 (seventeen years ago)

plus 1 team DEF and im down

johnny crunch, Thursday, 5 June 2008 22:33 (seventeen years ago)

League is GO!

I know I'm the interim commissioner/manager, but after everyone else signs up we'll have a poll and vote on other nominations. Also, if we've got a live draft date/time of SATURDAY 16 AUGUST 5:00 PM EDT. It can be changed if several people are busy that day and cannot participate. Look it over below and see if all the settings meet approval. :D

i am totally in! especially since my regular league has been torn asunder by a friend war the maturity of which would make grade schoolers ashamed.

Roberto Spiralli, Saturday, 14 June 2008 21:31 (seventeen years ago)

I guess it goes without saying, but since there are only 12 slots this year, it would be nice if everyone commits to sticking it out the whole season if you sign up. Orphaned teams suck.

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 14 June 2008 21:53 (seventeen years ago)

Just saw this thread! I'm in if you haven't hit 12 teams yet.

idp was prob the best thing abt the league last year.

Rock Hardy, Saturday, 14 June 2008 21:59 (seventeen years ago)

I'm in. How do I access this private league?

polyphonic, Saturday, 14 June 2008 23:00 (seventeen years ago)

yahh dudes me 3...check last years thread my team opened like 0-8 and i stuck it out nearly grindin back to .500

although there were obvs some extenuating circumstances w/ at least 1 team last yr that orphaning was understandable

johnny crunch, Saturday, 14 June 2008 23:03 (seventeen years ago)

polyphonic, if you're signed up with ESPN already, this link should take you right to it: http://games.espn.go.com/ffl/leaguesetup/ownerinfo?leagueId=16937

If not, you'll have to create an account and then take it from there.

If that doesn't work, I may have to get everyone's email and do it that way (but surely it's not *that* private).

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 14 June 2008 23:11 (seventeen years ago)

I guess it actually is that private. I just did a test and it looks like the only way I can send invites is by individual email.

SO, if you want to join the league, email pauletc (at) earthlink (dot) net and tell me.

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 14 June 2008 23:17 (seventeen years ago)

OK, the Dobbstown Slackers are in, but OH NOES, I'll be in California during the draft. If we could do it a week or more earlier that would be great, but if not I'll pre-rank or have a laptop with me.

Rock Hardy, Sunday, 15 June 2008 00:11 (seventeen years ago)

I want in but I fear love.

brownie, Sunday, 15 June 2008 02:27 (seventeen years ago)

It'll be okay, brownie!

Johnny Fever, Monday, 16 June 2008 11:22 (seventeen years ago)

i'm in and looking forward to the season.

does starting only one RB in a 12-team league sound weird to anyone else, though?

MikeJonze, Monday, 16 June 2008 18:21 (seventeen years ago)

and no RB/WR/TE flex position?

MikeJonze, Monday, 16 June 2008 18:22 (seventeen years ago)

Chicago Kevin suggested fewer starters, and I figured by keeping the RB pool a little deeper, more people could lay claim to good ones. WRs are a fucking dime a dozen, though.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 16 June 2008 18:26 (seventeen years ago)

does starting only one RB in a 12-team league sound weird to anyone else, though?

no, it levels the field.

chicago kevin, Monday, 16 June 2008 19:53 (seventeen years ago)

I think that was more a result of having 16 teams in the league last year. Fielding only 1 RB is a no-brainer. Two would make it at least a little bit more challenging to match up with your opponent. I mean, isn't every team in the NFL these days using at least 2 RBs, too? It's just weird to me that guys who are good fantasy contributors but don't fall into the top 12 RBs in the NFL wouldn't have a spot on my team – guys like Reggie Bush, Willie Parker, Ronnie Brown, Rudi Johnson, Darren McFadden, etc.

Think about. If everyone started 2 RBs, thats only 24 RBs being played every Sunday. Going by CBS Sportsline's 2008 Player Rankings, that would mean the least valuable RB would be Ronnie Brown. So it's not like any of us would be resorting to starting guys like J.J. Arrington or Maurice Morris on any given week. There's still good talent to be had about 35 RBs deep.

At the very least, a flex position where either a second RB (or a third WR or second TE) could be played would be nice and add some competitiveness to the league. That's just my opinion. If everyone else disagrees, I won't argue it anymore.

MikeJonze, Monday, 16 June 2008 20:18 (seventeen years ago)

no, it levels the field.

yeah, but there should still be some competitive edge, IMO.

MikeJonze, Monday, 16 June 2008 20:19 (seventeen years ago)

I'm open either way, but I kind of like the idea of tighter, closer scoring games with a fewer number of starters.

Last year, kickers and IDPs usually ended up being the x factors anyway.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 16 June 2008 20:47 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, but there should still be some competitive edge, IMO.

i don't care what you guys do, i won't be in the league. all i can tell you is that it makes picking the right match up that much more important, for all positions, but esp. for rb.

chicago kevin, Monday, 16 June 2008 21:28 (seventeen years ago)

but I kind of like the idea of tighter, closer scoring games with a fewer number of starters.

^^ that's what we got in my other league. at first i was kind of "wtf, one rb and one rb/flex???" but as the year went along it proved to be a good system. plus if you lose one of your two stud rb's you're not done for the season. you don't lose ldt and wind up starting kevin faulk in his place.

chicago kevin, Monday, 16 June 2008 21:30 (seventeen years ago)

You're not gonna be in?

Johnny Fever, Monday, 16 June 2008 22:04 (seventeen years ago)

chi kev is FICKLE

plus if you lose one of your two stud rb's you're not done for the season. you don't lose ldt and wind up starting kevin faulk in his place.

not sure abt this tho. people will still stock their rosters w/ the good RBs and it'll all come down to who you start on that sunday

Gonna play with my office folks. My first year putting my wallet into play.

forksclovetofu, Tuesday, 15 July 2008 21:31 (seventeen years ago)

I'm tense enough all season playing for no money. I might kill myself or others if I moved up to that level.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 15 July 2008 22:32 (seventeen years ago)

4 of 12 spots left.

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 19 July 2008 20:16 (seventeen years ago)

Ugh...I may have to drop out. I hate pre-ranking for the draft -- I've always decided on the fly based on the best available at the position I need. But there's no way I can be available for a draft between Aug. 11-24 -- will be on the road and in CA. Can the draft be moved to Aug 25 or later? 1st game is Sept 4...too tight a timeframe?

Rock Hardy, Monday, 21 July 2008 22:19 (seventeen years ago)

No, we can move it easily. I was just waiting to move it until most or all people have joined.

Well, upthread someone mentioned that the current draft date is during Labor Day weekend, so we'll probably have to move it back to a night sometime mid-week (though I have night classes on Weds and Thurs nights). If you want in, put up your email and I'll send an invite. :)

Johnny Fever, Friday, 15 August 2008 02:17 (seventeen years ago)

oh snap that's right, i thought it was still this weekend. i'm at expresso 2222 at gmail dot com, but i will only jump in IFF y'all need me to to round out the league; i'm not v. good at f.football.

Dimension 5ive, Friday, 15 August 2008 02:45 (seventeen years ago)

I think I came in last place (or close to it) my first season in 2006, and then won last year (due in large part to Adrian Peterson and my IDPs). It's slightly educated guesswork, that's all.

Invite sent.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 15 August 2008 03:43 (seventeen years ago)

I'm in but I want to make it clear that if ANYONE wants to take my place he or she is welcome to it. Seriously.

If not, and I stay in, YOUR ASSES ARE ALL GRASSES.

Dimension 5ive, Saturday, 16 August 2008 05:56 (seventeen years ago)

Great! We're full up.

Okay, about the drafting on Labor Day weekend thing. Is moving it back to Tuesday August 26th okay with everyone? Rock Hardy should be back from his trip, I don't have class, Hillary Clinton is speaking at the DNC...so yeah, there's nothing going on. What time on weeknights is everyone available?

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 16 August 2008 09:26 (seventeen years ago)

26th is good for me. I brought an '08 preview magazine with me so I can prep a little bit on the train back home. Any time of day or evening is good.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 25 August 2008 05:44 (seventeen years ago)

i'd be all for a keeper league! but i'd limit it to two and say that anyone picked in the first two rounds can not be kept next season. i was in a league like that before, but you could not protect anyone taken in the first three rounds and then you could only keep them for two seasons after the season you drafted them. it worked out really nicely.

MikeJonze, Monday, 25 August 2008 16:34 (seventeen years ago)

fitzy on wide outs.

chicago kevin, Monday, 25 August 2008 18:27 (seventeen years ago)

Last year it seemed like only D-linemen were available at the draft, and a few days later there were suddenly all the high-scoring LBs and DBs available to grab.

Rock Hardy, Monday, 25 August 2008 20:31 (seventeen years ago)

i think they were available but not really ranked by relevant stats. I've never tried a keeper league... I would vote no only b/c I'm not sure we can keep a solid group together. ilxors are flaky.

bnw, Monday, 25 August 2008 21:27 (seventeen years ago)

Well that's true.

Everybody must've been available in last year's draft IDP-wise, because I grabbed two LBs in the draft that I played the whole season (with another I picked up post-draft to rotate in and out). I've figured out the best way to run up Sunday fantasy scoring with IDPs is to go for LBs or Ends.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 25 August 2008 23:17 (seventeen years ago)

Argh... there is just no way this year. Life has gotten very complicated. Was there anyone else who wanted a team?

rogermexico., Monday, 25 August 2008 23:43 (seventeen years ago)

Could you draft tomorrow and let someone else take over team management?

Rock Hardy, Tuesday, 26 August 2008 00:51 (seventeen years ago)

That's kind of the problem - I'll be at work with no way to get away. I can set up an autodraft, but that never accounts for what-all's been taken off the board already...

rogermexico., Tuesday, 26 August 2008 05:29 (seventeen years ago)

And I'm really sorry about this. I know it's annoying and if I could swing it I would.

rogermexico., Tuesday, 26 August 2008 05:44 (seventeen years ago)

Sorry mang. I figure we can do one of three things.

1. You keep your place on the team, the draft happens, and you can rejoin later in the season and play whoever you get.

2. You drop out and hand the keys over to someone else you can find (though it's pretty short notice). Chicago Kevin? Are you sure you don't want in?

3. I feel shitty for suggesting this last one, but you drop out and Dimension 5ive drops out as well and I change it to a 10-team league (which I think I can do without having to change the league and re-invite everyone else).

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 26 August 2008 07:45 (seventeen years ago)

Wait, ChiKev isn't even in the league? He's the one we went to fewer players for.

he's a colleague of mine who's been wanting to play in a league with me. if rogermexico is going to drop out, send him an invite. he can make the draft tonight.

sorry. didn't realize the e-mail address wouldn't post. it is geojm3 at yahoo dot com. his name's jason.

MikeJonze, Tuesday, 26 August 2008 15:12 (seventeen years ago)

rogermexico out, Jason's invite sent. GAME ON

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 26 August 2008 15:32 (seventeen years ago)

why don't we just do the keepers and then if someone quits next year, we can just find someone to take over their spot and they'll take over that person's keepers, too?

MikeJonze, Tuesday, 26 August 2008 16:00 (seventeen years ago)

MikeJonze, u r my hero. Have fun guys - I'm totally going to miss y'all!

rogermexico., Tuesday, 26 August 2008 18:22 (seventeen years ago)

Wait, ChiKev isn't even in the league? He's the one we went to fewer players for.

i don't care what you guys do, i won't be in the league. all i can tell you is that it makes picking the right match up that much more important, for all positions, but esp. for rb.

Shit, I keep forgetting the draft is today. I suddenly said OMG and ran to find a clock.

Rock Hardy, Tuesday, 26 August 2008 21:35 (seventeen years ago)

Yikes, I just found out I need to take my wife to the hospital in a few minutes for a test. If I'm not there, it'll autodraft for me automatically, right?

Hopefully we'll be done and back in enough time.

Rock Hardy, Tuesday, 26 August 2008 21:47 (seventeen years ago)

Rock Hardy, Tuesday, 26 August 2008 23:10 (seventeen years ago)

Nice! Do we need to draft for anyone? Or has everyone who will miss the draft setup their auto-draft properly?

Upon reflection, I'm not as cool with my draft as I thought. o_O

i like I'm With You, Legedu a lot, and i think Straight Cash Homey looks hott if one of those RBs catches fire. at first look those two seem to be the strongest drafts to me. i think i'm worth a solid B which is more than i would've hoped for.

Roberto Spiralli, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 01:26 (seventeen years ago)

too late now, since we've already drafted, but i'm still not psyched about the single RB format. should've at least had a flex position for RB/WR/TE.

MikeJonze, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 18:13 (seventeen years ago)

Maybe we'll get used to lower pt. totals, maybe not. I'm rating my draft a B- or C+ at best. ;_;

fixed.

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 18:53 (seventeen years ago)

having the smaller starting roster was an interesting challenge though. my other league is at the other extreme, 12 teams with 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 RB/WR flex, so i was thrown by how deep good players were sticking around in our draft last night, and i definitely made a couple of poor choices because of it.

Roberto Spiralli, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 18:58 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, there were several RBs that are their teams' starter that were still hangin' around late in the draft. it's kind of crazy.

MikeJonze, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 19:47 (seventeen years ago)

I'm drafting for a school league ($20 buyin) on Tuesday. I started off with the ESPN cheatsheet (the one that goes to 250 players) and made notes on that. My league is gonna be between 10 and 12 people.

So, what's the strategy this year? #1 pick is LT, #2 is Westbrook? At what point in the first round should I grab a top ranked WR and give-up on getting a top 6 RB? I assume most of you guys have drafted already -- anyone going really cheaply I should I watch out for?

Mordy, Monday, 1 September 2008 04:37 (seventeen years ago)

hey, why have the IDP settings changed? i don't think we should be making any changes to the roster settings after the draft.

Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 1 September 2008 13:33 (seventeen years ago)

yeah wtf can we at least start the season before people fuck up the league this yr?

johnny crunch, Monday, 1 September 2008 13:53 (seventeen years ago)

Two are still active at any given time, but two was the MAX allowed on a roster. I changed it to three for weeks when one of your IDPs happens to be on a bye. Explain to me how that's fucking something up.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 1 September 2008 15:00 (seventeen years ago)

no, you changed it so we can have 3 of any given position. with the new rules, i would've drafted 3 LBs. becuase i couldn't at draft time, i took 2 LBs and a CB. it's not like there's a shortage of LBs for me to choose from now if i wanted to dump Champ Bailey, but that's not the point. i would've drafted differently, and i think we shouldn't be making any change that would've made folks draft differently.

Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 1 September 2008 15:03 (seventeen years ago)

Sorry duders!

Aren't I supposed to be turning LM'ership over to one of you guys?

Johnny Fever, Monday, 1 September 2008 15:11 (seventeen years ago)

Spiralli otm. I'll take the LM job if you want rid of it, and I won't make league-wide changes without running them past everybody. I don't expect to make changes at all.

Rock Hardy, Monday, 1 September 2008 16:06 (seventeen years ago)

^^ You're co-LM now, RH. It wouldn't let me remove myself entirely, but you've got my word I won't touch any settings from now until the end of the season.

Also, apologies for rejigging the settings. I just didn't make the connection between changing that setting and people having had to draft according to the previous setting (I only drafted two IDPs, so I just wasn't thinking about it at all). I was really hoping for a scandal free season, honest!!!

Johnny Fever, Monday, 1 September 2008 16:42 (seventeen years ago)

I need advice!

Mordy, Monday, 1 September 2008 23:25 (seventeen years ago)

Westbrook is better value as #2 pick than Peterson
don't touch Gore or Larry Johnson in the first two rounds
Brady should be pick 5 or 6
don't be afraid to take Randy or TO early if they're the best players on the board
don't draft Rudi Johnson

Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 1 September 2008 23:29 (seventeen years ago)

Also, pick the best DEF one round earlier than you think you should (unless a run starts, and then you grab the best one you can).

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 2 September 2008 00:25 (seventeen years ago)

I just had my draft in a public league I'm doing on the side. Damn, drafting with you guys is hard. But drafting with a bunch of normals gave me a pretty kickass roster. Wish I could do the ol' switcheroo, but whatevs.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 2 September 2008 00:27 (seventeen years ago)

What's the best DEF? Chargers? Then Vikings, Bears?

Mordy, Tuesday, 2 September 2008 00:32 (seventeen years ago)

Chargers, Seahawks, 49ers or Vikings. Bears have unfixable problems this year.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 2 September 2008 00:36 (seventeen years ago)

niners? really?

cankles, Tuesday, 2 September 2008 00:55 (seventeen years ago)

yeah idk about that, + the seahawks, rams and cards all have pretty good defenses

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 2 September 2008 00:56 (seventeen years ago)

um, offenses

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 2 September 2008 00:56 (seventeen years ago)

It's complicated for sure, but O'Sullivan looks to be a more productive QB than Alex Smith which means the DEF won't be on the field for 45 minutes every week. Also, they've got players back they were missing due to injury last season (good ones). With Patrick Willis in the middle and an improved secondary, they'll be pretty active.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 2 September 2008 01:01 (seventeen years ago)

but they have no defensive line! and your theory about the D not being on the field doesn't pan out, bcz martz isn't going to run the ball, EVER.

cankles, Tuesday, 2 September 2008 01:04 (seventeen years ago)

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 2 September 2008 01:08 (seventeen years ago)

i've heard a few people talk up the 49ers D this year, which is baffling to me. i have a feeling that things are going to fall apart even more and 49ers are going to be worse than last year, possibly even worst in the league. YOU READ IT HERE FIRST.

Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 2 September 2008 02:27 (seventeen years ago)

Yahoo completely dropped the ball on my league (draft didn't load) and, since everybody in is busy with other stuff for the next two days, we have to restart our draft tonight at midnight.

forksclovetofu, Tuesday, 2 September 2008 13:45 (seventeen years ago)

Midnight draft! Everyone will be making crazy, gambler picks due to waning consciousness.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 2 September 2008 14:00 (seventeen years ago)

Yahoo was utter dogshit for my other draft. constant drropped connections, including my whole time on the clock in the 2nd round, for which the site drafted Ryan Grant for me despite the fact that he wasn't on my pick list and wasn't even top of the auto draft list. could've been a kicker i suppose, but i was sorely pissed about it all the same.

two big thumbs up for decision to go with ESPN here.

Agreed.

polyphonic, Tuesday, 2 September 2008 17:40 (seventeen years ago)

i've heard a few people talk up the 49ers D this year, which is baffling to me.

I think they'll be quite good, but only insofar as the offense can keep them off the field. So much depends upon JTO and his cadre of old/rookie receivers.

polyphonic, Tuesday, 2 September 2008 17:42 (seventeen years ago)

I see that these points have basically already been made, though.

polyphonic, Tuesday, 2 September 2008 17:42 (seventeen years ago)

i like Grant okay but i think it's a big gamble this year because you have to think a lot of his production last year was down to having Favre behind center. at that point only 9 RBs were off the board so there were much better options available.

Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 2 September 2008 17:50 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, probably not the 10th best guy. But at least it's a good offense with most of the same parts from last year. I am a big believer in Aaron Rodgers though.

Radiant Flowering Crab (Rock Hardy), Wednesday, 10 September 2008 23:21 (seventeen years ago)

So, I started McGahee AND Cooley last week and still won my first game! Also, I seem to have lucked out. I got both Chris Johnson and DeSean Jackson in the draft and if last week was any indication, they are gonna rock it this season.

Mordy, Thursday, 11 September 2008 00:12 (seventeen years ago)

Who should I start this week at TE? Cooley, or Royal?

Mordy, Thursday, 11 September 2008 04:43 (seventeen years ago)

Cooley is a safer pick.

polyphonic, Thursday, 11 September 2008 17:53 (seventeen years ago)

But Cooley only got me 1 fantasy point last week.

Mordy, Thursday, 11 September 2008 19:35 (seventeen years ago)

chicago kevin, Thursday, 11 September 2008 19:37 (seventeen years ago)

All voting to do away with the general waivers system in the league say aye.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 16 September 2008 17:58 (seventeen years ago)

I vote to switch to a normal waiver period for players who have been waived by a team or are newly added to the league. # of days doesn't matter to me.

polyphonic, Tuesday, 16 September 2008 18:15 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, I just assumed when I was setting up the league that the default for waivers worked like it did in the Yahoo leagues so I just left it alone. But as we all know now, ESPN puts every available player into waivers and that's just no good.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 16 September 2008 18:24 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, I would be down with switching it to last year's settings.

Radiant Flowering Crab (Rock Hardy), Tuesday, 16 September 2008 18:28 (seventeen years ago)

Roddy up to 22 points.

forksclovetofu, Wednesday, 1 October 2008 14:15 (seventeen years ago)

fuck, 2 and 3.

forksclovetofu, Monday, 6 October 2008 01:15 (seventeen years ago)

My team isn't runaway crazy either. It's a 12 team league. I've just lucked out on a few matches, and I had a great draft. (Drafted Slaton, Chris Johnson and DeSean Jackson. Drafted Romo AND Aaron Rodgers.)

Mordy, Monday, 6 October 2008 01:49 (seventeen years ago)

Someone might get by me this week. Both of my defenses are on bye and I'm not picking up another.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 19:52 (seventeen years ago)

good call on going with espn over yahoo.... the only thing they are missing are the smack boxes

bnw, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 20:16 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, I like most things about the espn product (except the locking of all players while games are going on).

Unfortunately it's not as much fun this year because I totally screwed it up taking chicago kevin's "small roster" advice (not blaming him, it was my own fault).

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 20:20 (seventeen years ago)

My team was supposed to be good, but I keep losing.

polyphonic, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 20:32 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, I like most things about the espn product (except the locking of all players while games are going on).

?????
I made a couple of drops/adds during the games Sunday -- it let me do it because the ones I dropped were on bye weeks. Also, both my kickers were in late games, and I could have sworn they were switchable up until gametime.

I'm the wire monkey, not the soft monkey (Rock Hardy), Tuesday, 7 October 2008 20:33 (seventeen years ago)

Oh yeah, people on bye are waivable/pickupable during gametime, but the active waiver-wire locks.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 20:37 (seventeen years ago)

So, I've got -
RB: Steve Slaton, Tim Hightower, Brian Westbrook, Willis McGahee, Jonathan Stewart and Chris Johnon.
WR: Bobby Engram, Roddy White, DeSean Jackson, Jerricho Cotchery, and Muhsin Muhammad.

12 Team League. Someone wants to trade me Thomas Jones, Brandon Stokley and Le'Ron McClain for Steve Slaton and Chris Johnson. Johnson I don't mind letting go, but Slaton has become important to my team with Westbrook injured and McGahee underperforming. In fact, this week I have Slaton + Hightower started at RB, Cotchery + Jackson at WR, and Engram at the flex. Also, I'm currently 5-0.

Any advice? Should I take the deal?

Mordy, Sunday, 12 October 2008 04:16 (seventeen years ago)

dude, if you came out of your draft with those players in a 12 team league you must be playing against some chumps. no wonder you are 5-0. unless you have Brodie Croyle at QB don't even think about trading anyone ever. you will probably go undefeated.

street jungle patois (Roberto Spiralli), Sunday, 12 October 2008 11:45 (seventeen years ago)

I am in a dither about ESPN's projected points. I have both Joseph Addai and LeRon McClain, and they're projecting two points for Addai and 20 for McClain. Is Baltimore's defense really all that?

Also, I'm thinking about playing Dante Hall instead of Reggie Wayne.

I'm the wire monkey, not the soft monkey (Rock Hardy), Sunday, 12 October 2008 14:07 (seventeen years ago)

Addai seems undervalued and McClain seems overvalued, but the Colts run D is piss poor.

Dante Hall? Who are the Ramses playing?

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 12 October 2008 15:53 (seventeen years ago)

Redskins. I don't know where to find stats on special teams defense, and I have 2 minutes to figure it out.

This season is such a wash for me at this point, I can try crazy shit just to see if it works.

I'm the wire monkey, not the soft monkey (Rock Hardy), Sunday, 12 October 2008 16:58 (seventeen years ago)

Ugh, with Westbrook injured this week, I might actually lose. Especially sine it doesn't look like Jackson is getting a lot of use this week.

Mordy, Sunday, 12 October 2008 21:15 (seventeen years ago)

Reggie Wayne: 11
Dante Hall: 10

I'm the wire monkey, not the soft monkey (Rock Hardy), Sunday, 12 October 2008 22:56 (seventeen years ago)

I lost. Engram didn't put up a single point. Romo had a below average game. Hightower didn't get a goal line TD...

Bad mojo.

Mordy, Sunday, 12 October 2008 22:58 (seventeen years ago)

This season is really beating down my enthusiasm for fantasy football. :(

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 12 October 2008 23:07 (seventeen years ago)

OMG. I was 107-106, but he still had Giants defense to play. But now it's overtime and I've got ROMO!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mordy, Sunday, 12 October 2008 23:35 (seventeen years ago)

BAH.

Mordy, Sunday, 12 October 2008 23:43 (seventeen years ago)

What's my chance the Giants Defense get 0 or -1 points against the Browns? Not good, I imagine.

Mordy, Sunday, 12 October 2008 23:45 (seventeen years ago)

Giants went -5 in my league. I won my game. I'm 6-0. Jesus.

Mordy, Tuesday, 14 October 2008 18:43 (seventeen years ago)

WAU

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 14 October 2008 18:46 (seventeen years ago)

How crazy? I'm undefeated. And my league spent all Sunday night cheering my first loss. I'm going to rub this is their faces so much.

Mordy, Tuesday, 14 October 2008 18:48 (seventeen years ago)

Need some advice. I've got Rodgers and Romo at QB. Someone wants to trade me O'Sullivan and Lance Moore for Romo. I'd probably drop Engram and grab Moore. O'Sullivan would end up playing during Rodgers' bye week and I'd probably start Moore this week. The question is: Is Romo worth holding onto (considering that he might still be playing, even with the broken finger?)

Mordy, Thursday, 16 October 2008 03:55 (seventeen years ago)

Oh, and I've got an hour to pull the trigger.

Mordy, Thursday, 16 October 2008 03:55 (seventeen years ago)

C'mon peeps. Help me out!

On one hand, AWESOME FOR MY FANTASY TEAM! On the other, this makes me think of Merriman. Will he be on the bench by the half?

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 16 October 2008 08:48 (seventeen years ago)

I'd keep Romo.

forksclovetofu, Thursday, 16 October 2008 15:38 (seventeen years ago)

Oh well. 6-1. I played last week with half my guys on the bench and the guy I played against started LenDale White and SJax. Can't win them all :P

So, Pick 3 (2 RB, 1 Flex):

Brian Westbrook*
Steve Slaton*
Willis McGahee*
Jonathan Stewart
Chris Johnson

* Indicates who I intend to start.

I've really got a monster team at this point. I'm starting Roddy White + DeSean Jackson at WR, tho I could've started Cotchery if he were healthier. I'm shooting to trade Jonathan Stewart to someone for Plaxico, which would basically make me unstoppable at RB + WR. Unfortunately, with Rodgers at a Bye, and Romo injured, I've gotta start Brad Johnson at QB this week.

Mordy, Thursday, 23 October 2008 20:57 (seventeen years ago)

Embarrassment of riches there.

polyphonic, Thursday, 23 October 2008 22:09 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah. I got basically my entire team during the draft, too.

Mordy, Thursday, 23 October 2008 22:42 (seventeen years ago)

Leon Washington! LEON WASHINGTON!!!

Joe the C.R.E.E.P. Operative (Rock Hardy), Sunday, 26 October 2008 23:51 (seventeen years ago)

I started Brian Westbrook and Roddy White :)

Mordy, Sunday, 26 October 2008 23:52 (seventeen years ago)

I need Folk to kick 5 or 6 FGs or I'm screwed. Kyle Orton why hast thy ankle forsaken me!!!

Rock Hardy, Sunday, 2 November 2008 21:39 (seventeen years ago)

You're assuming Dallas will get close to the red zone, RH.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 2 November 2008 21:46 (seventeen years ago)

ha, well, yeah, er, fuck...

Rock Hardy, Sunday, 2 November 2008 21:53 (seventeen years ago)

Someone wants to trade me Lee Evans for Steve Slaton. Should I do it? I've currently got Westbrook, McGahee, Slaton, Chris Johnson and Jonathan Stewart at RB, and Roddy White, DeSean Jackson and Cotchery at WR.

Mordy, Monday, 3 November 2008 02:22 (seventeen years ago)

Free Lee! (by which I mean take him)

Johnny Fever, Monday, 3 November 2008 03:50 (seventeen years ago)

wow, i got 58 points this week.

forksclovetofu, Monday, 3 November 2008 19:51 (seventeen years ago)

If anyone wants TJ Housh, I will literally give him to you for nothing. For some reason, I can't drop him.

polyphonic, Tuesday, 4 November 2008 17:12 (seventeen years ago)

Washington will return to a more limited backup role this Thursday, and he shouldn't be in any fantasy lineups.

hahahaha

Rock Hardy, Friday, 14 November 2008 19:43 (seventeen years ago)

I had a shitty week last week. 95 points. Dropped down to 8-2.

Mordy, Friday, 14 November 2008 19:43 (seventeen years ago)

You know you had a good week when your starting running back puts up 192 yards and a touchdown and yet you wish you'd started someone else.

polyphonic, Friday, 14 November 2008 19:45 (seventeen years ago)

So, is Orton's ankle well enough to start him over Brady Quinn? HMMMMMMM.

a new Rock Hardy screen name because I can't find the old one (Rock Hardy), Sunday, 16 November 2008 00:20 (seventeen years ago)

Shit, I forgot about this until it was too late. I'm not in love with either option, Orton was probably the better play, but it's on The Mighty Quinn now.

a new Rock Hardy screen name because I can't find the old one (Rock Hardy), Sunday, 16 November 2008 18:12 (seventeen years ago)

wau, i was ahead of everyone this week despite not thinking to try and start cassel, who racked up 43 points. but ryan grant + steve slaton worked out pretty good.. strangely, nobody in my league even tried to pick up slaton until a couple weeks in (unless some dumbass actually dropped him?). i drafted brady in the first round and aside from eagles defense and chris cooley, pretty sure i changed up the entire roster.

T-PALIN (daria-g), Monday, 17 November 2008 21:45 (seventeen years ago)

OH CHRIST IM SO GLAD I DONT HAVE TO PLAY TRENT EDWARDS ANYMORE

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 18 November 2008 02:12 (seventeen years ago)

christ wtf do i do...i've got mcnabb and favre as my two qbs. who would you play this week? favre against the titans or mcnabb against the ravens? i am screwed imo.

omar little, Tuesday, 18 November 2008 23:48 (seventeen years ago)

I say pick McNabb because the Titans are better than the Ravens in general. Their defenses are similar, but the Ravens are less likely to eat up a lot of clock imo.

polyphonic, Wednesday, 19 November 2008 00:28 (seventeen years ago)

Man, i'm so fucked.

forksclovetofu, Wednesday, 19 November 2008 19:25 (seventeen years ago)

FFS NOW TRENT EDWARDS HAS A KILLER GAME! I dumped him in the ilx league and benched him in my other one.

Also, MARION BARBER WHATS WRONG WITH U

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 23 November 2008 21:27 (sixteen years ago)

WESTBROOK: 6
JOHNSON: 7
MCGAHEE: 0

WTF??

Mordy, Sunday, 23 November 2008 21:47 (sixteen years ago)

Meanwhile Leon Washington is my season MVP. I may not win most weeks, but it ain't because Leon doesn't deliver.

I really nailed that pick, huh?

polyphonic, Monday, 24 November 2008 19:04 (sixteen years ago)

its been all or nothing w/ westbrook, mostly nothing which killed my $ team

bnw, Monday, 24 November 2008 19:34 (sixteen years ago)

yeah, josh wilson is probably my biggest weapon. a pox on my house for dropping johnnie lee higgins. returners are the secret weapon in this league.

btw, the cbs fantasy game gives you a choice of formation which you can alternate weekly. kind of a neat feature and something to think about for next year, maybe.

j.q higgins, Tuesday, 25 November 2008 14:17 (sixteen years ago)

Up by 36 going into last night's game, lost by 12. I hate this fucking season.

Rock Hardy, Tuesday, 25 November 2008 14:32 (sixteen years ago)

I fell asleep when last night's game was 7-7, and woke up when it was over expecting to have lost.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 25 November 2008 17:26 (sixteen years ago)

Dang, I picked up LenDale off waivers only to forget to use him today.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 27 November 2008 20:35 (sixteen years ago)

Woo! Biggest week ever! I'm already at 114 points and still have Roddy White, Lee Evans, Chris Cooley, Packers D, and Rian Lindell to start! :)

(Started Romo, Westbrook, Johnson + DeSean at flex.)

Mordy, Friday, 28 November 2008 05:45 (sixteen years ago)

I started Barber and his gimpy toe in place of LenDale and his steamrolling beer gut. :(

Johnny Fever, Friday, 28 November 2008 09:51 (sixteen years ago)

Glad I didn't bench McNabb this week!

polyphonic, Friday, 28 November 2008 19:31 (sixteen years ago)

Deangelo Williams might have been nice to have today.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 30 November 2008 21:17 (sixteen years ago)

Second seed in my playoffs. I really hope Westbrook continues to play well.

Mordy, Wednesday, 3 December 2008 07:01 (sixteen years ago)

@JF: he was, my friend!

MikeJonze, Friday, 5 December 2008 05:15 (sixteen years ago)

Do I put Pacman in for Patrick Willis? He's returning kicks for Dallas today.

WmC, Sunday, 7 December 2008 21:00 (sixteen years ago)

...thanks a lot, stupid Tony Romo...

Johnny Fever, Monday, 8 December 2008 00:47 (sixteen years ago)

hah, i was best in my league this week (and cooooooley didn't play yet) thanks to cassel, gostkowski, and welkah.. also steve slaton, and marvin harrison. awesome.

I DON'T MIND THE NFL (daria-g), Monday, 8 December 2008 00:49 (sixteen years ago)

I really really really hope Kurt Warner doesn't fuck me next week.

Mr. Snrub, Monday, 8 December 2008 02:31 (sixteen years ago)

Semi-finals. I am down 4 points. Westbrook still left to play. LOVES IT.

Mordy, Monday, 15 December 2008 06:37 (sixteen years ago)

I need Quintin Demps to get me 15 points tomorrow night to stay alive, which isn't out of reach considering Cleveland's special teams and offensive miscalculations.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 15 December 2008 06:46 (sixteen years ago)

Unfortunately, the guy I am going to play in the finals is likely going to win. He has been scoring between 130 and 140 consistently every week. I will get a 160 game, but then I'll get a 90 point game. And since this is a two-week long finals, he'll undoubtedly do better overall.

Mordy, Monday, 15 December 2008 07:15 (sixteen years ago)

XP, you're in a league where you pick safeties?

Mordy, Monday, 15 December 2008 17:29 (sixteen years ago)

my team tanked completely. i kind of deserve it after trading for braylon edwards lol

bnw, Monday, 15 December 2008 17:31 (sixteen years ago)

I've got McNabb and Akers left, and 10 points to cover if I'm going to make it to the semis.

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Monday, 15 December 2008 17:34 (sixteen years ago)

I think McNabb is gonna cover 10 points. No problem.

Mordy, Monday, 15 December 2008 17:38 (sixteen years ago)

This season is kind of pissing me off, since I'm putting up reasonable points now that it doesn't matter. Valuable info for next year, though

Speaking of next year: how many roster spots did we have last year? My memory says:
QB
RB x 2
WR x 2
WR/RB
K
DP
DP
DEF (team)

This year's scoring stat of 1 pt. for every 10 return yards has been totally crazy, in a good way, and I want to keep that.

WmC, Monday, 15 December 2008 17:58 (sixteen years ago)

I hate FF with DPs. But -- I love ILX and I love Fantasy Football. Can I get in on the league for next year?

Mordy, Monday, 15 December 2008 17:59 (sixteen years ago)

Don't see why not. I'll webmail you with an address to send your credit card details.

WmC, Monday, 15 December 2008 18:02 (sixteen years ago)

(j/k)

WmC, Monday, 15 December 2008 18:02 (sixteen years ago)

i would vote against having return yards counting again because kick returners have had too much impact this year. i do feel like WR should get more points. in another league i'm in we had 1pt for a reception, which i liked. i guess you could also change it to 1pt for 10 receiving yards instead.

i like the suggested breakdown of players though, obv with a TE added. another bench spot wouldn't hurt.

flavors of funyun (Roberto Spiralli), Monday, 15 December 2008 18:05 (sixteen years ago)

Oh yeah, forgot TE. Those bastards never do anything good for me.

WmC, Monday, 15 December 2008 18:06 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, PPR is great. The cash league I was in this year was really a lot of fun. Starting: 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 Flex, 1 TE, 1 D, 1 K. The bench was pretty huge (about 8 slots?), which was probably too large. But I liked the starting roster.

Mordy, Monday, 15 December 2008 18:07 (sixteen years ago)

I vote that next year we go XTREME with the points, just to make everything more fun. I agree now (and pretty much ever since draft day) that we/I sort of fucked it up this year.

Standard roster + 2 IDPs + wicked high scoring.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 15 December 2008 22:50 (sixteen years ago)

Mordy, Tuesday, 16 December 2008 04:47 (sixteen years ago)

i'm sick of how the regular fantasy football playoffs are all about the money now. you only get the true heart and passion of fantasy football in the consolation ladder, and that's why i'm the real winner here.

Roberto Spiralli, Wednesday, 31 December 2008 12:37 (sixteen years ago)

i am the 1st loser. good job capitalizing on the return yds element mikejonze...danielle manning lit me up!

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 31 December 2008 14:01 (sixteen years ago)

the return yardage was a big factor. i finally keyed up on that aspect of our league sometime around week 6.

MikeJonze, Thursday, 1 January 2009 15:14 (sixteen years ago)

I can't be entirely disappointed in my team...7th in PF but 11th in PA...I just ran into buzzsaws some weeks.

WmC, Thursday, 1 January 2009 16:44 (sixteen years ago)

the return yardage was a big factor. i finally keyed up on that aspect of our league sometime around week 6.

Yeah, I regretted the fact that I couldn't drop any of my receivers to pick up a return guy.

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Thursday, 1 January 2009 18:25 (sixteen years ago)

You could bench them, though, couldn't you? I had the same problem with Reggie Wayne, who wound up riding the pine most of the season.

WmC, Thursday, 1 January 2009 19:17 (sixteen years ago)

I'm in favor of kick/punt return yardage next year, but maybe 1 pt. for every 20 yards instead of 10.

WmC, Thursday, 1 January 2009 19:18 (sixteen years ago)

You could bench them, though, couldn't you? I had the same problem with Reggie Wayne, who wound up riding the pine most of the season.

I could, but all three of my receivers were either guys who were undroppable or guys I would never drop, and I didn't have another roster spot I could free up. Actually, the way the rosters work on ESPN is pretty infuriating, imo. Too inflexible.
