Anyone know if ESPN scoring is customizable and IDP inclusive?

yes. i'll be in this year if we can have fewer players. i lost interest when i couldn't even field a full team.

idp was prob the best thing abt the league last year.

free live scoring isnt that big of a deal. i mean you can easily figure out yourself how someone is doing just from updated box scores

Next year, I [i]will not be the commissioner...no way, no how! However, yeah...I think the Yahoo! standard for league approved trades is 1/3 disapproval and is probably the same in other fantasy leagues too.

Chicago Kevin suggested fewer starters, and I figured by keeping the RB pool a little deeper, more people could lay claim to good ones. WRs are a fucking dime a dozen, though.

I think that was more a result of having 16 teams in the league last year. Fielding only 1 RB is a no-brainer. Two would make it at least a little bit more challenging to match up with your opponent. I mean, isn't every team in the NFL these days using at least 2 RBs, too? It's just weird to me that guys who are good fantasy contributors but don't fall into the top 12 RBs in the NFL wouldn't have a spot on my team – guys like Reggie Bush, Willie Parker, Ronnie Brown, Rudi Johnson, Darren McFadden, etc.

Think about. If everyone started 2 RBs, thats only 24 RBs being played every Sunday. Going by CBS Sportsline's 2008 Player Rankings, that would mean the least valuable RB would be Ronnie Brown. So it's not like any of us would be resorting to starting guys like J.J. Arrington or Maurice Morris on any given week. There's still good talent to be had about 35 RBs deep.

At the very least, a flex position where either a second RB (or a third WR or second TE) could be played would be nice and add some competitiveness to the league. That's just my opinion. If everyone else disagrees, I won't argue it anymore.

^^ that's what we got in my other league. at first i was kind of "wtf, one rb and one rb/flex???" but as the year went along it proved to be a good system. plus if you lose one of your two stud rb's you're not done for the season. you don't lose ldt and wind up starting kevin faulk in his place.

Ugh...I may have to drop out. I hate pre-ranking for the draft -- I've always decided on the fly based on the best available at the position I need. But there's no way I can be available for a draft between Aug. 11-24 -- will be on the road and in CA. Can the draft be moved to Aug 25 or later? 1st game is Sept 4...too tight a timeframe?

i'd be all for a keeper league! but i'd limit it to two and say that anyone picked in the first two rounds can not be kept next season. i was in a league like that before, but you could not protect anyone taken in the first three rounds and then you could only keep them for two seasons after the season you drafted them. it worked out really nicely.

Last year it seemed like only D-linemen were available at the draft, and a few days later there were suddenly all the high-scoring LBs and DBs available to grab.

i think they were available but not really ranked by relevant stats. I've never tried a keeper league... I would vote no only b/c I'm not sure we can keep a solid group together. ilxors are flaky.

Everybody must've been available in last year's draft IDP-wise, because I grabbed two LBs in the draft that I played the whole season (with another I picked up post-draft to rotate in and out). I've figured out the best way to run up Sunday fantasy scoring with IDPs is to go for LBs or Ends.

Argh... there is just no way this year. Life has gotten very complicated. Was there anyone else who wanted a team?

That's kind of the problem - I'll be at work with no way to get away. I can set up an autodraft, but that never accounts for what-all's been taken off the board already...

i like I'm With You, Legedu a lot, and i think Straight Cash Homey looks hott if one of those RBs catches fire. at first look those two seem to be the strongest drafts to me. i think i'm worth a solid B which is more than i would've hoped for.

having the smaller starting roster was an interesting challenge though. my other league is at the other extreme, 12 teams with 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 RB/WR flex, so i was thrown by how deep good players were sticking around in our draft last night, and i definitely made a couple of poor choices because of it.

yeah, there were several RBs that are their teams' starter that were still hangin' around late in the draft. it's kind of crazy.

I'm drafting for a school league ($20 buyin) on Tuesday. I started off with the ESPN cheatsheet (the one that goes to 250 players) and made notes on that. My league is gonna be between 10 and 12 people.

So, what's the strategy this year? #1 pick is LT, #2 is Westbrook? At what point in the first round should I grab a top ranked WR and give-up on getting a top 6 RB? I assume most of you guys have drafted already -- anyone going really cheaply I should I watch out for?

Two are still active at any given time, but two was the MAX allowed on a roster. I changed it to three for weeks when one of your IDPs happens to be on a bye. Explain to me how that's fucking something up.

no, you changed it so we can have 3 of any given position. with the new rules, i would've drafted 3 LBs. becuase i couldn't at draft time, i took 2 LBs and a CB. it's not like there's a shortage of LBs for me to choose from now if i wanted to dump Champ Bailey, but that's not the point. i would've drafted differently, and i think we shouldn't be making any change that would've made folks draft differently.

^^ You're co-LM now, RH. It wouldn't let me remove myself entirely, but you've got my word I won't touch any settings from now until the end of the season.

Also, apologies for rejigging the settings. I just didn't make the connection between changing that setting and people having had to draft according to the previous setting (I only drafted two IDPs, so I just wasn't thinking about it at all). I was really hoping for a scandal free season, honest!!!

don't touch Gore or Larry Johnson in the first two rounds
Brady should be pick 5 or 6
don't be afraid to take Randy or TO early if they're the best players on the board
don't draft Rudi Johnson

Also, pick the best DEF one round earlier than you think you should (unless a run starts, and then you grab the best one you can).

I just had my draft in a public league I'm doing on the side. Damn, drafting with you guys is hard. But drafting with a bunch of normals gave me a pretty kickass roster. Wish I could do the ol' switcheroo, but whatevs.

It's complicated for sure, but O'Sullivan looks to be a more productive QB than Alex Smith which means the DEF won't be on the field for 45 minutes every week. Also, they've got players back they were missing due to injury last season (good ones). With Patrick Willis in the middle and an improved secondary, they'll be pretty active.

but they have no defensive line! and your theory about the D not being on the field doesn't pan out, bcz martz isn't going to run the ball, EVER.

i've heard a few people talk up the 49ers D this year, which is baffling to me. i have a feeling that things are going to fall apart even more and 49ers are going to be worse than last year, possibly even worst in the league. YOU READ IT HERE FIRST.

Yahoo completely dropped the ball on my league (draft didn't load) and, since everybody in is busy with other stuff for the next two days, we have to restart our draft tonight at midnight.

Midnight draft! Everyone will be making crazy, gambler picks due to waning consciousness.

Yahoo was utter dogshit for my other draft. constant drropped connections, including my whole time on the clock in the 2nd round, for which the site drafted Ryan Grant for me despite the fact that he wasn't on my pick list and wasn't even top of the auto draft list. could've been a kicker i suppose, but i was sorely pissed about it all the same.

I think they'll be quite good, but only insofar as the offense can keep them off the field. So much depends upon JTO and his cadre of old/rookie receivers.

I see that these points have basically already been made, though.

i like Grant okay but i think it's a big gamble this year because you have to think a lot of his production last year was down to having Favre behind center. at that point only 9 RBs were off the board so there were much better options available.

Yeah, I just assumed when I was setting up the league that the default for waivers worked like it did in the Yahoo leagues so I just left it alone. But as we all know now, ESPN puts every available player into waivers and that's just no good.

I made a couple of drops/adds during the games Sunday -- it let me do it because the ones I dropped were on bye weeks. Also, both my kickers were in late games, and I could have sworn they were switchable up until gametime.

Oh yeah, people on bye are waivable/pickupable during gametime, but the active waiver-wire locks.

I am in a dither about ESPN's projected points. I have both Joseph Addai and LeRon McClain, and they're projecting two points for Addai and 20 for McClain. Is Baltimore's defense really all that?

Also, I'm thinking about playing Dante Hall instead of Reggie Wayne.

Addai seems undervalued and McClain seems overvalued, but the Colts run D is piss poor.

i would vote against having return yards counting again because kick returners have had too much impact this year. i do feel like WR should get more points. in another league i'm in we had 1pt for a reception, which i liked. i guess you could also change it to 1pt for 10 receiving yards instead.

i like the suggested breakdown of players though, obv with a TE added. another bench spot wouldn't hurt.

Yeah, PPR is great. The cash league I was in this year was really a lot of fun. Starting: 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 Flex, 1 TE, 1 D, 1 K. The bench was pretty huge (about 8 slots?), which was probably too large. But I liked the starting roster.

I vote that next year we go XTREME with the points, just to make everything more fun. I agree now (and pretty much ever since draft day) that we/I sort of fucked it up this year.
