CIN @ NYJ -- I suppose Jets as the Bengals while seeming to improve on defense, they are still losing.OAK @ NO -- I'm curious to see if Oaktown turns into a wreck and the Saints give up a whole lot of points. I'm going NO.CAR @ TB-- This is a pretty interesting game. Tampa seems to be a club that I can't figure, so I will go Panthers in a squeaker and watch the Bucs make me wrong again.STL @ WAS -- Redskins, but at some point the Rams are probably going to have a good game.BAL @ IND -- Bmore likes to get fired up to play the Colts, but I have a feeling that Indy will pull it out.MIA @ HOU -- After a loss like that one, Houston has to be really shook up. Miami seems like the real deal, so I will take them on the road, even though they are still kind of an unknown quantity.DET @ MIN -- Minnesota is not quite right, but the Lions have only won like 3 games on the road in the last 10 years. CHI @ ATL -- Wow, who would have thought this would be an interesting matchup? I figured the Bears were set for a big slide and have come through pretty well with the offense being much better than expected and the defense being solid. I have not yet seen the Falcons yet, but you cannot argue with the results. I'm going to be a fan boy and go Bears, but this looks like a pickem game probably leaning Atlanta. Going by the stats, Michael Turner is looking like an excellent pickup.JAC @ DEN -- This is another interesting matchup. J-ville is kind of up and down, but I would suppose their game plan is going to be the same as a Colts game to completely control the clock and keep Denver's passing game on the sidelines. Their success is probably tied to controlling the ball and Denver has been giving up 134 yards a game on the ground. I'm going Jags on the road.GB @ SEA -- This used to be a big TV game...not anymore. I think the Packers are the better club, but Seattle is a tough place to win. If Rogers plays the whole game, I'm going Packers. PHI @ SF -- The 49ers are improved, but I figure they have not seen a blitz like the Eagles. I'm going Philly.DAL @ ARI -- This is the biggest game the Cardinals have had in a long time, if they win they move way up the charts to being a 'contenda'. I figure this one will be an old school AFC type score like 41-38. I still have to figure the Cowboys will win, but I would like to see the Cards pull it out.NE @ SD -- This one is definitely not the big game you would have figured before the season started. I figure it will be kind of an ugly game and the Chargers pull it out in the end. NYG @ CLE -- Boy the Browns have slid into the toilet and the Giants are looking like thumpers. I figure this will either be a laugher which in the end starts the Brady Quinn era or Cleveland will play the G.I. Ants like the Bengals did at home and keep it close. Either way, I'm going New York. Browns are not good against the run and the Giants seem to be pounding teams with their running game. I think one of the biggest things for the Giants is keeping players healthy so that they can play this good at the end of the season.

I mean I know they've never beat Houston, but they've only played three times total, one of which came during the Daunte debacle, the other that came in a game that Trent Green was knocked unconscious.
― Life Begins at Death (Bo Jackson Overdrive), Saturday, 11 October 2008 20:45 (sixteen years ago)
You have to figure that Houston is due. I still went Miami, as they have to get something for beating SD and NE, even if that is not the same type of accomplishment now as it would have been at the beginning of the season. Houston has some good parts, but it just doesn't seem to be gelling together and they played really terrible the first couple weeks of the year.
I think the Dolphins getting Pennington right before the season started changed a whole lot about their team. They went from having a black hole at QB, to a guy that while limited is very efficient. Putting him in the back field with that running game really jumps up the quality of play. I think the same thing would have happened to the Vikings if they would have gotten Pennington, as that is an offense that would have worked to what he could do. The Jets on the other hand had little run game, a terrible o-line and their pass receivers seem to be better at a deep attack passing game. The Jets o-line is improved, but they still are living and dying on Favre being able to chuck it up deep and somehow it working out.
― earlnash, Sunday, 12 October 2008 13:46 (sixteen years ago)
I don't know that I really believe in the whole "this team is due" concept. I kept saying that about Miami last year after they had several 'almost wins' and by the time they were 0-13 I had pretty much given up.
Houston needs a true QB, is its problem. Matt Schaub proves that with QBs, transplanted backups don't always turn into studs. Sage Rosenfels can only win in relief.
Despite my snarky comments about him, Pennington completely makes sense for Miami, and s the type of QB they have needed. None of Miami's WRs scare anybody, but they're all competent enough (well, except for Ginn) to get open as possession receivers.
Back in 2005, the beginning of the Saban era, Miami needed a guy like that, and they decide to go out and get Gus Frerotte, a dude that can throw a deep ball but is horribly inaccurate. So I'm sold on Porter. But Sparano and staff in general have done a bangup job using what they have to their strengths. One could argue that Cam Cameron, for about six weeks of last season, may have had a more talented team than Sparano did at this point, and couldn't win with them.

There is no way he was passing the ball, he was going to and was tucking it back down as he was going to get hit. I still cannot believe they reversed that call. Some times a fumble is just a fumble.
I also cannot figure how the Falcons got a 40 yard fly pattern out of bounds in five seconds of clock time. That seems like some bending the laws of time Barry Allen kind of pass pattern or something.

B-more has played the Colts tight at home (BUT LOST) and the Colts have kicked the Raven's ass pretty good the last couple of times in Indy.
I kind of see the Brady play, even though it was lame, but Romo's hand was going into his body to pull the ball back preparing to get hit. The ball was like on his belly when it got knocked out. To me, that was a bad call.

NFL: Browns Stagger Back Into Monday Night Spotlight
CLEVELAND (AP) _ Braylon Edwards left his first Monday night game angry at the world.
He had gone to the Pontiac Silverdome in 1995 as an excitable seventh grader with dreams of playing in the NFL. He sat in the stands with his dad expecting to see a rout.
A huge fan of the San Francisco 49ers, he was sure Steve Young and Jerry Rice would hook up for several touchdown passes and the defending Super Bowl champions would demolish his hometown Detroit Lions.
"I was thinking, no way in heck they lose to the Lions," Cleveland's wide receiver said.
Heck happened.
"What do you know?" Edwards said. "(Detroit's) Herman Moore and Brett Perriman had outstanding games and Barry Sanders went crazy, rushed for about 180 yards. They beat the 49ers up and there I was, mad."
Edwards can only hope his Monday night debut as a player goes better. He and the disappointing Browns (1-3) will take the field as enormous underdogs against the unbeaten New York Giants, who will carry an 11-game road winning streak (12 counting the neutral site Super Bowl) into the matchup and who embarrassed Cleveland during the exhibition season.
"This is a dream for me to play on 'Monday Night Football,' " Edwards said. "Back to when you were a kid, everybody wants to have three or four touchdowns on it and be player of the game. We're going to be so pumped up, the first two series we'll just work on getting rid of the butterflies and try to get everyone going."
Going forward would be preferred. To this point, the Browns are crawling — backward.

Yet, Braylon Edwards, like many other professional athletes, dreams of bigger and better things, inside and outside of football. In a recent article in ESPN The Magazine, writer Carmen Reneé Thompson followed Edwards around for a day of meetings with the higher ups who hold his pass to silver screen stardom. Edwards claimed that “Outside of a Super Bowl ring, my definition of success is making more money after football.”
Of course, Edwards was not alone. His agent, Creative Artists Agency’s Howard Skall (who also represents Brady Quinn), accompanied him throughout the day. Edwards represents a growing percentage of athletes who are getting more and more interested in off-the-field pursuits in the entertainment industry. Along with hoping to make cameo appearances on shows like HBO’s Entourage or being a guest on Oprah, Edwards feels that he is capable of being a lead actor in a film and hopes to lock down a major endorsement deal this summer.

Braylon Edwards offered more than just advice and encouragement to 100 Cleveland Public Schools eighth-graders Wednesday.
He offered $1 million in college scholarship money.
Edwards officially unveiled his Advance 100 Program in an event at Lincoln West High School that was attended by Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson, Cleveland Public Schools CEO Dr. Eugene T.W. Sanders, Browns head coach Romeo Crennel and other key community and Browns leaders.
A banner hanging outside the auditorium stated the Braylon Edwards Foundation's slogan, "Receiving is Giving."
The Advance 100 program, an initiative of the Braylon Edwards Foundation, will challenge the students to excel in and out of the classroom and reward them when they do. Each participant is eligible to receive $10,000 in scholarship money.
