What's good for Wall Street (call all destroyer), Tuesday, 21 October 2008 20:09 (seventeen years ago)

i wonder if Belichick can think of a defensive scheme that will stop the Rams' one weapon on offense. COULD BE V INTERESTING.

Alien Mindbender (Roberto Spiralli), Tuesday, 21 October 2008 20:18 (seventeen years ago)

it depends on if he can shift around enough players to put the pats' one weapon on offense on that dude, you know?

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Tuesday, 21 October 2008 20:20 (seventeen years ago)

You can't stop BenJarvus Green-Ellis, you can only hope to contain him.

McFadden is indeed crazy fast. Hopefully some team somewhere is keeping an eye on BenJarvus Green-Ellis at Ole Miss too, though. That dude's a running, cutting, tackleproof machine.

The crazy thing is that he ended up going undrafted and came to the Pats via free agency.

lol yeah at the press conference he was so happy Belichick let him run the slip screen play that they usually give to Welker (or Stallworth last year).

What's good for Wall Street (call all destroyer), Tuesday, 21 October 2008 20:31 (seventeen years ago)

That screen play was a thing of beauty. Great upfield blocking.

I loved the late touchdown after the Broncos had given up. "Heath Evans is looking for someone to hit but nobody's around!"

OAK @ BAL i think i read on ESPN that west coast teams are 0-9 on the east coast his season.
ARI @ CAR on the face of it this looks like a shoot out, but i think Carolina will be able to control it.
TB @ DAL can't quite accept that Dallas is suddenly as terrible as they seem. maybe because i want it so much.
WAS @ DET tho after taking their eye off STL i guess the 'Skins are a contender for the one win Detroit will probably fluke
BUF @ MIA dunno why i am so unconvinced by Buffalo. if they thump Miami maybe that will be enough to bring me over to their side.
STL @ NE great match-up for NE. STL O won't get much and NE won't give them the points the Cowboys did.
SD @ NO Saints can't seem to do it outside New Orleans so this is an unfortunate home game relocation for them.
KC @ NYJ tho after watchind that dreadful game vs Oakland i believe Jets could lose to anyone.
ATL @ PHI have a feeling that this will be one of those games where Falcons go missing
CLE @ JAC sudden death of Browns following sudden rise last year is one of the sadder naratives of this season
CIN @ HOU Texans start to look more respectable after this game. should be a great battle for #2 spot in that division.
NYG @ PIT Giants will expect to get to Roethlisberger. a lot rides on if this means they overdo it or underdo it on blitz.
SEA @ SF what a coin toss of a game. maybe Niners will respond to Singletary.
IND @ TEN Titans should be able to run over Indy all game long. you know Indy will fucking win this somehow tho.

Alien Mindbender (Roberto Spiralli), Thursday, 23 October 2008 14:16 (seventeen years ago)

Alan Mindbender (Roberto Spiralli), Friday, 24 October 2008 00:13 (seventeen years ago)

I remember a great line in Pro Football Prospectus from the year they brought Singletary in. Something along the lines of "his primary responsibility will be being Mike Singletary."

What's good for Wall Street (call all destroyer), Friday, 24 October 2008 03:15 (seventeen years ago)

OAK @ BAL - The Ravens are decent and the Raiders are not, although I could buy this one maybe being close.
ARI @ CAR - Cards have to prove to me they can win something like this on the road, I'll take the Panthers.
TB @ DAL - I'm going Dallas to bounce back, but I don't have any good reason to other than to consistently be inconsistent on picking any game with the Bucs this year.
WAS @ DET I'll take the Redskins, but the Lions are going to win one before the year is out.
BUF @ MIA - I'll go Bills, although I have not seen them play in a few years. I would believe it if Miami won however.
STL @ NE - I'll take the Pats at home, but who knows maybe the Rams might make it interesting. It would figure for this season that St. Lou would win.
SD @ NO - I don't know on this one...neither team is that hot. I'm going that the Saints will win in a track meet, even without Bush. SD defense seems kind of shaky this year.
KC @ NYJ - I'll go Jets, but what a fugly game.
ATL @ PHI - This is a pretty interesting matchup. I'll take Philly, but I am kind of curious how Atlanta will show.
CLE @ JAC - I'll take the Jags, they will ground Cleveland up on the ground.
CIN @ HOU - Carson is gone for the year and Houston is probably a bit better than their record, so the Texans it is.
NYG @ PIT - This is the match up of the week and pretty much a toss up. I'm feeling Giants.
SEA @ SF - The 49ers are probably a touch better than their record. Seattle seems to be completely wrecked.
IND @ TEN - I hope the Colts win, but the Titans are tough as hell. I'm sure Fisher and some of the old school Titans would love to really clock the Colts for the last four seasons seasons or so. A long time back, this was 'the' rivalry game in that division, as the Colts were coming up when the Titans were last a top team. I've got to go with Tennessee.

earlnash, Sunday, 26 October 2008 02:23 (seventeen years ago)

Patriots game was kinda wacky. i always assumed Bulger was just being let down this season and last by the broken O line but now it's patched up and actually playing okay, it's clear that he's not actually very good anymore. the Rams failures covered up a weird run of bad luck for the Pats offense in the second half - two turnovers caused by players tripping on the turf, three drops by the typically reliable hands, two of which would have gone for TDs. weird game in general. generally feel a lot more comfortable about NE than earlier in season.

Alan Mindbender (Roberto Spiralli), Sunday, 26 October 2008 20:15 (seventeen years ago)

Great game Trent Edwards. Thanks for the gift.

And Ted Ginn finally has a breakout game where he made tough catches, took hits, and ran good routes. Are the Four Horsemen outside?

Indeed. It actually appeared to be Cassel's best game so far despite the two INTs--both of which were pretty unlucky. Rams still not very good despite the Haslett miracle. I wonder who is going to get suckered into hiring him.

I know people talk about parity year in and year out but prior to this year at least there were a handful of teams that were consistently winning year in and year out (Colts, Patriots, Seahawks, Steelers, Cowboys). Or at least the top teams had some separation. What the fuck is going on this year. Anytime I think a team has finally become a contender, they lose to some shit team and come down to earth.

So I finally went to my first NFL game in person. Dudes, that shit is weird after having just watched it on tv my whole life.

Anyway, Browns won. Not exciting, except for the last 60 seconds when Jax totally choked. What I thought was MOST weird: the number of Browns jerseys in Jax Municipal Stadium. I'm talking like a ratio of 35-65%, which seemed disproportionately high for an Ohio road team playing in Florida.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 27 October 2008 05:20 (seventeen years ago)

great win, but how many times this year are the browns going to have 1st and goal from the one and not score?

Mr. Snrub, Monday, 27 October 2008 10:43 (seventeen years ago)

I find this picture hilarious

the steelers-giants game was ridiculous. has there been any update on what the hell is wrong with cripples the punter?

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Monday, 27 October 2008 17:06 (seventeen years ago)

man the Steelers are banged up good. I predict Zeus or the young rookie Herc will have to step in and replace Ben sometime in the near future.

brownie, Monday, 27 October 2008 17:09 (seventeen years ago)

oh man we were wondering how zeus was doing yesterday. no real blog updates in a while from the rofflesberger.

omar little, Monday, 27 October 2008 17:32 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, what's up with the rofflesblog? he isn't even trying

claudia schefter (daria-g), Monday, 27 October 2008 17:32 (seventeen years ago)

the steelers o-line is absolutely horrible.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Monday, 27 October 2008 17:33 (seventeen years ago)

after last night's game i am now convinced the giants will repeat or at the very least be the nfc rep in the super bowl because all the other "good" teams suck. remember when the nfc used to be some kind of ridiculously dominant conference, guys?

not that the afc is any better. this season is nuts.

omar little, Monday, 27 October 2008 17:36 (seventeen years ago)

that fourth-down pass from eli to toomer was a thing of beauty. fuckers

why didn't my dad groom me from birth to be a switch-hitting catcher long snapper?

mookieproof, Monday, 27 October 2008 17:42 (seventeen years ago)

The Giants are honestly the only team I have any faith in at this point, and that is weird as hell considering the fact that they lost Strahan AND Osi, AND Burress is being a punk.

polyphonic, Monday, 27 October 2008 17:42 (seventeen years ago)

in other news, mike singletary is not going to take your BULLshit

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/10/26/SP5713OMRG.DTL

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Monday, 27 October 2008 17:50 (seventeen years ago)

I am really going to miss coach Singletary after they fire him and replace him with some shitty veteran coach.

polyphonic, Monday, 27 October 2008 18:04 (seventeen years ago)

the singletary presser was prettt amazing. i say this having not see the titans, but the g-men seem to be the class of the league at this point, even accounting for that howler against the browns.

...but even the giants may be quick to point out that you can't win them all!

j.q higgins, Monday, 27 October 2008 18:10 (seventeen years ago)

When it comes to the Titans' long-term success, I think the their receiving corps concerns me more than Kerry Collins.

polyphonic, Monday, 27 October 2008 18:16 (seventeen years ago)

lol @ 18-1 humor, still

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Monday, 27 October 2008 18:21 (seventeen years ago)

http://blogs.nfl.com/2008/10/26/49ers-interested-in-condoleezza-rice/

ok san francisco are you just trying to outcrazy your brothers on the other side of the bay now?

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Monday, 27 October 2008 19:15 (seventeen years ago)

The Yorks are such idiots, it's really quite incomprehensible.

polyphonic, Monday, 27 October 2008 19:29 (seventeen years ago)

if only W had stuck to running baseball teams & condi had taken over an NFL franchise eight years ago!

claudia schefter (daria-g), Monday, 27 October 2008 19:35 (seventeen years ago)

ugh then baseball and football would be ruined do you see how these people run a country?!?!

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Monday, 27 October 2008 21:09 (seventeen years ago)

nah i don't care if the texas rangers and san fran 49ers are ruined do you?

claudia schefter (daria-g), Monday, 27 October 2008 21:31 (seventeen years ago)

somehow they'd find a way to spread it to everyone else. just like the economy.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Monday, 27 October 2008 21:34 (seventeen years ago)

yeah parity goes both ways

El Tomboto, Monday, 27 October 2008 21:54 (seventeen years ago)

wau, nice job peyton.

claudia schefter (daria-g), Tuesday, 28 October 2008 01:05 (seventeen years ago)

the titans pyrotechnics guy is fired

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Tuesday, 28 October 2008 01:22 (seventeen years ago)

omg what the shit, colts. house qb is really easy to pick off, stop dropping your intercepts.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Tuesday, 28 October 2008 01:31 (seventeen years ago)

yeah dude was looking up the field to run it back & didn't focus on making the catch first!

claudia schefter (daria-g), Tuesday, 28 October 2008 01:40 (seventeen years ago)

OH GOD KORNHEISER SHUT UP

claudia schefter (daria-g), Tuesday, 28 October 2008 01:49 (seventeen years ago)

you read my mind

Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 28 October 2008 01:50 (seventeen years ago)

i'm impressed so far w/indy.

claudia schefter (daria-g), Tuesday, 28 October 2008 01:51 (seventeen years ago)

i would just like to complain, after the fact, about how tony kornheiser will just say any damn thing in order to hear himself talk. like claiming that the Titans need to win this game more than the Colts do, which is so clearly nonsense that Jaworski + Tirico responded with complete silence.

horseshoe, Tuesday, 28 October 2008 02:03 (seventeen years ago)

earlier in the evening, i happened across a program, on the qvc, called "nfl shop." the gentleman who hosted the show would interject his own patter about each team as he introduced products such as pleather nfl jackets, and slippers with browns "logos" on them.

i would rather hear that charming salesman announce a game, than listen to another word out of tony kornheiser.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Tuesday, 28 October 2008 02:21 (seventeen years ago)

also i thought the titans were really good and indy sucked.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Tuesday, 28 October 2008 02:22 (seventeen years ago)

apparently i should stop listening to MSM and their LIES

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Tuesday, 28 October 2008 02:22 (seventeen years ago)

hey, since when did the colts have a running game?nah so far they've had the TN defense on the field how long? haynesworth had to come out a play or two i think, just for being tired

claudia schefter (daria-g), Tuesday, 28 October 2008 02:24 (seventeen years ago)

the colts got their offensive line together, i see.

i kind of want a pleather nfl jacket now.

horseshoe, Tuesday, 28 October 2008 02:26 (seventeen years ago)

yeah I think TN defense is getting pissed. they had some really pointless unsportsmanlike flag on the extra point, wtf

claudia schefter (daria-g), Tuesday, 28 October 2008 02:29 (seventeen years ago)

i was really psyched for basically every item sold on qvc nfl shop. the colts robe was amazing.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Tuesday, 28 October 2008 02:29 (seventeen years ago)

http://www.youtube.com/v/-76TCw-6hK0&hl=en

i'm just gonna look at this for a little bit

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Tuesday, 28 October 2008 02:29 (seventeen years ago)

it's the new rickroll

claudia schefter (daria-g), Tuesday, 28 October 2008 02:30 (seventeen years ago)

KORNHEISER PROVING SOMETHING TO GET RESPECT FROM SPORTSWRITERS DOES NOT COUNT FOR SHIT

claudia schefter (daria-g), Tuesday, 28 October 2008 02:32 (seventeen years ago)

he is making me want to murder people. specifically tony kornheiser.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Tuesday, 28 October 2008 02:36 (seventeen years ago)

the colts need to get their shit together

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Tuesday, 28 October 2008 02:38 (seventeen years ago)

i guess i should admit that the only reason i want the titans to lose is because of kerry collins

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Tuesday, 28 October 2008 02:38 (seventeen years ago)

d'oh!

claudia schefter (daria-g), Tuesday, 28 October 2008 02:41 (seventeen years ago)

GREAT 2pt conversion.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 28 October 2008 02:41 (seventeen years ago)

i can't believe i'm rooting for peyton but i too want to see undefeated teams crash and burn

claudia schefter (daria-g), Tuesday, 28 October 2008 02:41 (seventeen years ago)

ahaha did you guys see that awesome peyton-face as they went to commercial? i think he needs to gain some weight; his face has been looking kind of drawn.

horseshoe, Tuesday, 28 October 2008 02:45 (seventeen years ago)

oh, yeah that was totally hilarious! we need an animated gif of that for sure

claudia schefter (daria-g), Tuesday, 28 October 2008 02:55 (seventeen years ago)

the colts d is wasting a LOT of opportunities here

xpost lol i know what the hell was that face?

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Tuesday, 28 October 2008 02:55 (seventeen years ago)

ok what was THAT face

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Tuesday, 28 October 2008 02:56 (seventeen years ago)

indy defense: they died

that's clearly a, "MOMMY!" face.

j.q higgins, Tuesday, 28 October 2008 12:59 (seventeen years ago)

mike singletary is not going to take your BULLshit

that should be the title of the week 9 thread.
