metametadata (n/a), Wednesday, 12 November 2008 18:59 (seventeen years ago)

for some reason i always read these threads even though i don't really care about football. i guess i have a vague interest in how the bears are doing and want to see what people think they will do?

metametadata (n/a), Wednesday, 12 November 2008 19:00 (seventeen years ago)

Kurt Warner has the highest QB rating right now?!

idk (wanko ergo sum), Wednesday, 12 November 2008 19:03 (seventeen years ago)

metametadata (n/a), Wednesday, 12 November 2008 19:04 (seventeen years ago)

yeah i always read these threads too even tho i haven't followed football in at least a dozen years.

is the jets hate on this board because of favre or because the jets are a lol franchise?

velko, Wednesday, 12 November 2008 19:05 (seventeen years ago)

both! i've never really liked the jets very much personally and favre is just bonus vomit icing on a shit cake imho.

of course now they've signed ty law too so i'm wondering if in fact they are just hosting a "player museum"

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Wednesday, 12 November 2008 19:07 (seventeen years ago)

ha, 2 teams i followed back in the day were jets and raiders.

velko, Wednesday, 12 November 2008 19:12 (seventeen years ago)

schef otm re: jets. i wouldn't say i hated them pre-favre but they are boring and off-putting.

xpost sorry velko!

i'm a giants fan so, you know

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Wednesday, 12 November 2008 19:14 (seventeen years ago)

i tried to like them a couple years ago when the whole league was like mangini's a genius! chad pennington is a smart young man! (still like pennington tbh) but then i actually was forced to watch a jets monday night game against the dolphins and was like oh god kill me.

horseshoe, Wednesday, 12 November 2008 19:15 (seventeen years ago)

MIN @ TB adrian peterson
BAL @ NYG GIANTS also will someone txt me important results and lollerplays of this game as i will be in chicago and i don't think this will be on, in chicago?
OAK @ MIA - Miami better win.
NO @ KC - KC seems to be playing better and are at home. I want to take the Saints, but I will go with the Chiefs.
PHI @ CIN - Philly but I could see Cincy making it interesting.
CHI @ GB - I sure hope the Bears win.
HOU @ IND - I'm going Indy. I honestly think they need to start running Rhodes more than Addai, who loses alot of yards with hesitation on those edge runs. I'd go with Dom Rhodes as he might not be better, but he is more of a battering ram type back and it fits their current game better.
STL @ SF - Who knows who wins when the war is lost?
ARI @ SEA - The Cards better win if they are some real deal, but I have an odd feeling they could below it this week.
TEN @ JAC - I'm going Jaguars for the upset with an untimely turnover or two being the stubbed toe for Tennessee. They are good and could win it all, but I can't buy the Titans as undefeated all time great kind of team.
SD @ PIT - I'll go Steelers as Big Ben needs to turn that frown upside down.
DAL @ WAS - Hurmmmm...kind of hard to pick, logic states the Redskins, but if the Cowboys are going to do anything they need to win this one. I'll take Dallas in a squeaker.
CLE @ BUF - I'm pulling for Buffalo as listening to Cleveland sports talk radio driving home from work is so sad. Browns sport talk radio fans are a particular darkly negative group, although I did get a chuckle when the one caller said that the Braylon Edwards commercial for the 5 Hour Energy Drink with him catching the football was not truth in advertising.

NYJ @ NE Jets won't be able to run, Favre will step up to the big occasion by slinging the ball around carelessly, Jets will sack Cassel a few times but not as many times as they did earlier in the season, and the Pats won then too. final score will be closer than the game. i am buoyed by that fact that, of all of the husks of recently great AFC teams, NE is the least pitiable.
DEN @ ATL i'm just going to write HOTLANTA every week as i have no idea of the means by which they keep winning
DET @ CAR Panthers definitely have the quality to be one of the teams another team beats on the way to the NFC Championship game
MIN @ TB Vikes will find scoring difficult
BAL @ NYG Giants pash rush will feast on young flesh
OAK @ MIA i kinda wish Miami would just fuck off already this season
NO @ KC there is good cause to favor KC to take this, which is why they will fail hilariously
PHI @ CIN Philly likes beating up on the shitty teams
CHI @ GB this is a hunch
HOU @ IND can't talk myself out of Indy for this one. i really hope they don't make the playoffs.
STL @ SF that last Rams performance was a real farce. they have checked out for the season.
ARI @ SEA this is also a hunch, kind of reliant on the Hass playing
TEN @ JAC what has happened to this division?
SD @ PIT pitiable husks
DAL @ WAS i don't know why Washington aren't more consistent on offense. it is curious to me. i am curious about it. curious.
CLE @ BUF i don't think you do so you and me are through

ಥ﹏ಥ (cankles), Friday, 14 November 2008 04:43 (seventeen years ago)

that was kind of a bummer! guys it feels so weird to root for the pats i don't even know who i am anymore.

horseshoe, Friday, 14 November 2008 04:45 (seventeen years ago)

awww, patsies! :( they should've won. racked up more yards all round. special teams were bad. bad last week too, AFAIK, this time it killed them - gave the jets excellent field position early on and let a kickoff return go for a TD. I didn't see the very end. couple plays go the other way and we beat indy and win this one. fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck.

T-PALIN (daria-g), Friday, 14 November 2008 04:49 (seventeen years ago)

adalius thomas is missed! and jerod mayo is the bomb.

T-PALIN (daria-g), Friday, 14 November 2008 04:50 (seventeen years ago)

seriously, a couple plays! a fourth down in the first half when they went for it & came up short rather than send on gostkowski..

T-PALIN (daria-g), Friday, 14 November 2008 04:51 (seventeen years ago)

lol u lost to the jets

TOMBOT, Friday, 14 November 2008 04:52 (seventeen years ago)

the jets aren't THAT bad right now? but yeah. too many guys out from injuries

T-PALIN (daria-g), Friday, 14 November 2008 04:54 (seventeen years ago)

cassel apparently racked up 400+ passing yards and 3 td though. christ, that game. i have to say though, i thought they were screwed just before halftime & this offense wasn't really able to make up a 3-score deficit. not true.

T-PALIN (daria-g), Friday, 14 November 2008 04:59 (seventeen years ago)

i guess i was hoping that Billy boy could just keep making adjustments on D and holding everything together, but the Pats have just lost one too many players now. Adalius was definitely the last straw. the Jets let them back into the game because they came out in the second half trying not to lose the game, instead of trying to win it. every time they started a drive with purpose they put some kind of points on the board. i didn't think special teams was all that much of a problem, except for two plays, one where they got scorched by a talented return guy, and one where Gostowski seemed to kick it to a different side of the field than the team was set up for.

Cassel is a good QB and he will start for some team next season, i am pretty sure of that. of his incompletions, only a couple were really terrible throws - the rest were a matter of experience/confidence, putting the ball too far away to avoid the chance of picks. i think those qualities are all he is missing though. but those too-safe throws were all to open men, so it is safe to say that Brady would have shredded this Jets team. they are actually a decent side, and Favre played an irritatingly tight and controlled game, but their downfall will be on the sidelines, not on the pitch.

I am currently out of the office (Roberto Spiralli), Friday, 14 November 2008 11:49 (seventeen years ago)

i actually thought NE would at least make a decent dent in the playoffs before that game. one injury too many. i am sad now.

I am currently out of the office (Roberto Spiralli), Friday, 14 November 2008 11:53 (seventeen years ago)

jets could not adjust to the no-huddle & were way rattled & pats needed to score more in the 3Q where they DOMINATED but only scored the one TD at the very end.

jets had to win this game abt 4 diff times. kris jenkins in RIDICULOUS. the pressure before the sack late 4thQ he just lifted and drove the pats lineman(mankins ?) into cassel

im weirdly happy for the jets. mostly for leon washington

johnny crunch, Friday, 14 November 2008 12:24 (seventeen years ago)

in is

johnny crunch, Friday, 14 November 2008 12:24 (seventeen years ago)

yeah I still am holding out hope they make the playoffs but can't see them making a run. recall reading a story or two yesterday suggesting that thomas may not be done for the season, who knows. morris is back. but prob one injury too many. cosign that brady would've shredded them.

T-PALIN (daria-g), Friday, 14 November 2008 19:08 (seventeen years ago)

I tuned in with about 3 minutes to go last night. Cassel looked real smooth and in control running the 2 minute drill, not much difference in style than how Brady seems to run it by using quick organized short passes running to the line and spiking the ball. I see a backup QB run it that smooth and in control, I remember watching McNabb run another bad 2 minute drill last week and again wonder why the heck can he and the Eagles not get it done like that. The Eagles run a bunch of ball control passing, so it seems like it would be something they could do.

earlnash, Friday, 14 November 2008 23:03 (seventeen years ago)

is there any chance that the pats will cut brady loose and turn the keys over to cassel?

j.q higgins, Friday, 14 November 2008 23:14 (seventeen years ago)

Only if he simply can't play anymore. Otherwise, if brady embraced nazi philosophy and started obsessively licking Matt Light on the field, that still wouldn't happen.

forksclovetofu, Friday, 14 November 2008 23:34 (seventeen years ago)

well, if he comes back and can't play b/c his knee is still fucked up, it's the pats - i think they would.

T-PALIN (daria-g), Friday, 14 November 2008 23:34 (seventeen years ago)

don't know what they'll do b/c cassel is a free agent after this season..

After it was apparent that the Bears were going nowhere, I just watched the Colts and Texans. Colts offense played a lot more like they have in the past, even with a half dozen drops. I did notice that they ran a whole lot more between the tackles with both Addai and Rhodes than they have in the last few times I saw them play. That stretch play which was a staple of their running game with Edge up until this year just doesn't work with the current offensive line.

I watched the OT of the Bagles and Eengals today, what a snoozer. I had to laugh at Cinci running the ball at 3 and 6 at about the 50 yard line in OT, way to go for the win. Andy Reid must be bored with play calling or something and has to play games with himself like seeing if he can beat a club without ever letting Westbrook touch the ball. The Eagles need a kick in the ass, as I think talent wise they have been much better than their record for now a season and a half. They lose way too many games like the one today that should be done. I will say this however, while their record obviously does not indicate it, I do think Cinci's defense is improving.

A nation will hold it's breath as two NFL titans battle it out on the shores of the largest freshwater fishery in the world!

brownie, Monday, 17 November 2008 17:16 (seventeen years ago)

More fish are produced each year for human consumption from Lake Erie than from the other four Great Lakes combined -- Lakes Huron, Michigan Ontario and Superior.

The famous quotation "We have met the enemy and they are ours," was made by Oliver Hazzard Perry during the Battle of Lake Erie in the War of 1812, which secured the south shore of the lake for the U.S.

Lake Erie is the 12th-largest (area) lake in the world, and its border includes four states (NY, PA, OH, MI) and one Canadian Province (Ontario).

Lake Erie and its shoreline are a major source of many minerals. The largest sandstone quarry in the world is located in Amherst, Lorain County, Ohio. Salt mines in Cuyahoga and Lake Counties extend out under Lake Erie and are an important source of revenue to the State. Sand, gypsum, and limestone used for construction purposes are found in abundance. Large reserves of natural gas, over 3 trillion cubic feet, are located under Lake Erie.

What is that drive like from Cleveland to Buffalo? Is it pretty?

polyphonic, Monday, 17 November 2008 18:47 (seventeen years ago)

not really. you don't get any sense of being close to the lake on the 90, for one thing. driving west from Buffalo it's kind of exciting to get to Cleveland because there are buildings and the expressway gets all crazy, but in between there's not much. parts of western New York are pretty--driving east from Buffalo involves some prettiness.

driving through Ohio takes forfuckingever.

horseshoe, Monday, 17 November 2008 18:55 (seventeen years ago)

like, not to Cleveland, but if you're driving from Chicago to Buffalo, say. or back. ohio is a way bigger state than you probably imagine.

MUST WING

brownie, Monday, 17 November 2008 20:27 (seventeen years ago)

i think about 40% of the telecast will be devoted to kornheiser questioning the wisdom of teams scoring touchdowns instead of field goals, employing players with strong arms at quarterback, teams having "coaches", teams having different colored uniforms than the team they are playing, and so on.

omar little, Monday, 17 November 2008 20:27 (seventeen years ago)

Passenger 57 (rogermexico.), Tuesday, 18 November 2008 05:05 (seventeen years ago)

yeah i thought the bad coaching was on jauron + schonert. they needed to call more aggressive offensive plays all through the game but especially at the end. i know trent edwards is terrified but it's not like he's going to wake up tomorrow and not be an NFL quarterback. he needs to throw the ball down the field.

horseshoe, Tuesday, 18 November 2008 05:05 (seventeen years ago)

^^yaah dudes squib was questionable but bills had 32432423 of special teams yds so romeo might be boned either way. i thought romeo's worst strategery was not calling his first t.o. right after the seam pass to royal at abt 1:20 left and buff already in FG range. fortunately he got bailed out by WORSE playcalling by buffalol

johnny crunch, Tuesday, 18 November 2008 12:24 (seventeen years ago)

True about special teams yards to that point but [analyst mode]at some point you have to trust your players to make a play[/analyst mode]. They were kicking with the wind (that had just aided a 56-yard FG) and were taking the possibility of a touchback out of play entirely. So they leave the Bills with 26 yards to kick a FG for the lead and then start calling timeouts. The whole thing is essentially "we don't trust our defense so we're basically going to concede a FG and try to get the ball back" which is an awful conservative play-not-to-lose strategy.

funky president (call all destroyer), Tuesday, 18 November 2008 14:49 (seventeen years ago)
