i bought the 2007 fiesta bowl on itunes yesterday so i could be guaranteed a good bowl game.

i got stuck in stupid sugar bowl traffic which was about as close as i came to watching a bowl game. i only saw the "bowl" itself, with dumb red utah shirts and dumb "crimson" shirts for alablama pouring in like rivers of blood. Utah people were clutching their purses tight in N.O. streets.

Well I officially have no clubs left that I can say I am a fan left in the tournament. I obviously knew not who would win last week other than the Eagles, who I figured for the playoffs a few weeks back. I was kind of fighting a cold all weekend so I was in and out of consciousness during both the games except the Bolt/Colt game, which was one of those tense games that are more torture to a fan than joyous.

I'm still not sure how Atlanta lost. I know they did, but I never even really saw any highlights or any big plays in the game except the one long pass play that Boldin broke loose and that Edge was playing quite a bit in a couple of series.

Miami was turning the ball over a ton. Ed Reed is a freak, the guy has to be the greatest on a run backed interception of all time. B-more's offense is as fugly as usual, except they are now even more no name.

I watched a bit more of the Eagles & Viks. Minnesota gave it pretty much everything they had, they really only got burned a couple of times. Tavaris Jackson might stay in the league another half dozen years, but I don't think he will ever be much better than he is now. I dunno I have felt that Philly has been one of the more underachieving clubs over the past couple of years. I don't get why they didn't run Buckholder more, as the guy had two really nice runs early, then the dude was not even in the game again (unless he was hurt or something). Philly is still pretty solid, except they are not good in short yardage and they call some odd plays.

SD could have won that game by more. The Colts had a bunch of chances, I don't know how many painful 3rd and long that SD would get a pass or run and get just enough to keep the drive going. Indy's midget defenders would even sometimes hit a Charger and then get drug for a first down. It was really painful to watch, more like your usual Bears kind of game. The punter for SD really was the MVP, to pin a club that many times that deep, especially one with no running game was the key thing. I think a big play was Rivers running for the first down.

As for this week...

It seems like big thug football is back big time, so much for the razzle and dazzle w/B-more, Carolina, NY Giants & Tennessee.

Tennessee over B-more, but I'm not real confident on it or anything. Both of these clubs are kind of fugly to watch play. If the Titans put the ball on the ground, I could see the Ravens making it interesting.

Carolina over Arizona, but I wouldn't mind the road tripping Cards to win as the Panthers are just freaking boring to me. I haven't seen them play much at all, so maybe they are the second coming, but John Fox's clubs are not exactly excitement personified. Its the Cards, they won their second playoff game since the Nixon administration, they can go home to ticker tape parades and front court seats at Sun games. I just don't know enough about either club.

Eagles over Giants, it probably won't happen but I guess I am pulling for Philly this year. I don't really hate on the Giants and they will probably just use Brandon Jacobs as a battering ram and pummel them.

Pittsburg over SD but I have no faith at all in this one. There is just something not right with the Steelers. Their defense is stout, but Big Ben often times will play his way out of games and then gets fantastically lucky in the end. Pitts run game is also not as strong as in the past I don't think, because of injuries. I could see Rivers going in and pulling off a big upset and coming out again like the walking wounded in the AFC final.

Maybe McNabb didn't know the rule? Because the replay showed him reacting to the flag with surprise, which suggests he either:

a) Doesn't know about intentional grounding
b) Didn't think he was in the pocket still, somehow
c) Thought that there was someone in the area, even though there was nobody on that entire side of the field
d) Was not aware that end zone grounding is a safety.

It is a mystery...
