Houston in a minor upset.
Philadelphia defense does what Detroit couldn't in Week 1. Stop Brees.
Jacksonville squeaks by Arizona in a game that could really go either way.
Kansas City almost took it to Baltimore in Week 1, will go all the way against Oakland.
Green Bay with home field advantage over a cursed Cincinnati team.
Minnesota, because Detroit is still Detroit even with a hot shit qb.
Washington was a mess at the Meadowlands, but should easily whoop on St. Louis.
New York Jets take advantage of the weakness in the New England defense that Buffalo could not.
Atlanta spots Carolina 14 and still wins big.
Buffalo will either make this no-huddle thing work or they won't, but Tampa will be a good test.
San Francisco surprised in Week 1, and will squeak by again over Seattle.
San Diego plays poor one week, plays awesome the next. Sorry, Baltimore.
Pittsburgh should prevail over Chicago, even w/o Polumalu to pick Cutler 3 times.
Denver, despite many problems, has fewer problems than Cleveland.
New York Giants over Dallas in a game that's really a toss-up. I credit the NYG defense.
Indianapolis will beat Miami, but I don't think Miami will play as poor as they did in Week 1.

based on this past weekend i really like the jets against new england. i hope that vegas gives the jets points because it's new england. that would be real tempting.

aarrissi-a-roni, Tuesday, 15 September 2009 19:15 (fifteen years ago)

did u see the jets game?

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 15 September 2009 19:16 (fifteen years ago)

yeah it was like the bizarro jets. their d was all kinds of busy and effective. the pats were clearly not up to speed on offence and i don't think that will turn around in a week. did you notice how brady didn't even try to air it out once? he loved to pass deep to moss even against double coverage in 07. i know we've only seen them for one game, but i think this jets d will be able to take advantage of that kind of hesitancy and any off-timing. on the other side of the ball, sanchez had the confidence and presence of someone who's already played a few seasons. i thought the bills did a poor job of capitalizing on what the patriots were giving them underneath until they started getting passes to jackson. i think washington could kill the pats if the jets watch that tape.

aarrissi-a-roni, Tuesday, 15 September 2009 19:25 (fifteen years ago)

i think sanchez is gonna be good but i expect a pretty different defensive gameplan this week. vs. the bills everything was geared to shutting down evans and t.o.--don't need to do that w/the jets their best offensive players are their backs imo.

loss of mayo for six weeks is concerning tho.

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 15 September 2009 19:28 (fifteen years ago)

hmm that is a good point, new england totally killed the deep option for buffalo and the jets don't have anything like the same threat. without a decent mlb healthy i wonder if teams will try to pound it through the middle against the pats. i don't think the jets have the personnel for that. thomas jones was woeful. he got all of his yards on two carries where the texans fell to pieces, but the rest of the time he barely got a yard and a half.

aarrissi-a-roni, Tuesday, 15 September 2009 19:36 (fifteen years ago)

HOUSTON @ TENNESSEE Tennessee looked really solid on Monday until the fourth quarter and OT; Schaub looks a hot mess already. Titans
NOLA @ PHILADELPHIA Eagles QB situation + Saints starting on a tear makes me think this could be an upset. Saints
ARIZONA @ JACKSONVILLE Cardinals need to get in rhythm, Jacksonville is a good place to do it. Cards
OAKLAND @ KANSAS CITY Oakland almost looked like a football team in game one! Raiders
CINCINATTI @ GREEN BAY Packers
ST. LOUIS @ WASHINGTON this game will be shitty
NEW ENGLAND @ NY JETS Could be a serious definition game for the Jets, even with a loss. It's the "even with" part that makes me think it's a Pats win.
CAROLINA @ ATLANTA Falcons
TAMPA BAY @ BUFFALO Tampa
SEATTLE @ SAN FRANCISCO Seattle, but I bet this game will also be shitty
BALTIMORE @ SAN DIEGO Chargers looked really bored last night; I think Ravens band em up a bit.
PITTSBURGH @ CHICAGO Time to beat up on the underdog; Steelers
CLEVELAND @ DENVER Browns
NY GIANTS @ DALLAS This one feels like the biggest tossup of the week; I think a lot rests on the receiving corps for both teams. Gonna be a homer and GO Giants

first of all, jones's mom could have made big runs against the texans on those two downs. second of all, that's just bs. if you really expect that your running back will only ever get anything at all on 2 carries out of 28 you would never give him the ball. you gotta have some of those 3-4 yarders to chew up the 10.

Leroy "you need two yards? i'll get you three yards; you need four yards? i'll get you three yards" Hoard is a more valuable running back than Barry Sanders, QED.

Thomas Jones isn't anyone's second coming but when they're stacking the box and daring your rookie qb to beat you, blaming the RB for getting stuffed is just o_0

Essentially the internet has allowed sociopaths to hide behind a mask of anonymity and in some cases has caused normal, well-adjusted people turn give in to their own sociopathic tendencies, and this has bled over into the real world. Respect, decorum, and basic decency have fallen away and been replaced with a single, vile mentality in which you don't need to show those aforementioned good qualities, because that would be weak. Having said that, that dipshit should have knelt in the endzone.

aww...

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Still a little upset over having his lawn vandalized, Buffalo Bills cornerback Leodis McKelvin is willing to forgive and forget.

Referring to Bills fans as being great, McKelvin said Wednesday he doesn't want anyone arrested for painting an obscenity and the game's score on the front lawn of his home shortly after a 25-24 season-opening loss at New England on Monday.

"It's just one little incident. I hope it doesn't happen any more," McKelvin said following practice. "I was mad, I was kind of like angry in a way, but I was laughing a little bit for what they put on there."

McKelvin is being partly blamed for the loss after his fumble set up the Patriots' winning drive. He discovered the vandalism shortly after returning home from the game.

it's weird that the fans are vandalizing his lawn instead of vandalizing the defense's lawns being that they basically allowed the pats to get another touchdown 60 seconds later.

everyone kills people (the schef (adam schefter ha ha)), Wednesday, 16 September 2009 19:54 (fifteen years ago)

they should also just vandalize boston because their team got that catch call that went against the raiders. also hunt down ed hochules just because.

they might want to burn down toronto too so toronto doesn't steal their team of guys who are too dumb to kneel in the end zone.

HOUSTON @ TENNESSEE titans
NOLA @ PHILADELPHIA saints
ARIZONA @ JACKSONVILLE jags
OAKLAND @ KANSAS CITY raiders
CINCINATTI @ GREEN BAY packers
MINNESOTA @ DETROIT - The Lions will probably win a game this year, but not this week, go Vikings.
ST. LOUIS @ WASHINGTON - Redskins D is pretty good, that offense looked pretty poor, good thing they are playing the Rams. I'll take the Skins
NEW ENGLAND @ NY JETS - Last week is proof that whatever you see in preseason is about as reliable as grading a team on how they play in Madden 09. The bit I saw of the Jets on a few minutes of pre-football, they loooked horrible. NE lost a couple of these type games on the road last year, but I don't see it happening this week.
CAROLINA @ ATLANTA - Atlanta's D looked pretty impressive last week. I have to figure they are OK to pick.
TAMPA BAY @ BUFFALO - If the Bills show up, they should win this one, as the Bucs got rolled last week.
SEATTLE @ SAN FRANCISCO- With all that crazy stuff that went down, I just realized the Niners beat the Cards. I have no real idea on this game, so I will take the 49ers at home.
BALTIMORE @ SAN DIEGO- This is a tough one. SD didn't look to hot. I guess I will take the Ravens in an upset (of sorts).
PITTSBURGH @ CHICAGO - I'm pulling for the Bears, but I have to figure the Steelers should win. I hope I'm wrong.
CLEVELAND @ DENVER - Who knows? I guess take the Broncos at home.
NY GIANTS @ DALLAS - I'll take the Giants and I hope they destroy the Cowboys.
INDIANAPOLIS @ MIAMI - I'll take the Colts, especially if they get up 2 scores early. I'm not sure Miami can really play from behind.

earlnash, Wednesday, 16 September 2009 22:55 (fifteen years ago)

HOUSTON @ TENNESSEE - Not sold on Houston. They still look like an 8-8 team. Titans
NOLA @ PHILADELPHIA - Might be the best game of the week. Philly
ARIZONA @ JACKSONVILLE - Zona was one of the worst teams to ever make it to the Super Bowl. Kurt better start drawing God again. Jags
OAKLAND @ KANSAS CITY - KC is a tire fire. Raiders
CINCINATTI @ GREEN BAY - I'm liking the Pack to take their division. Green Bay
MINNESOTA @ DETROIT - All Farve has to do is a passable Trent Dilfer imitation and let Purprle Jesus do the rest. Besides it's Detroit. Minni
ST. LOUIS @ WASHINGTON - Rams are another dumpster fire. As earlnash said, the Skins look downright schizo, but even with that mish-mash of an offense they should beat the Rams. Skins
NEW ENGLAND @ NY JETS - On a few downs the Pats O-line looked Pittsburgh shaky, but Sanchez is due for a crash so I'll go NE.
CAROLINA @ ATLANTA - Jake Delhomme is a turnover machine. Falcons
TAMPA BAY @ BUFFALO - Bills should have won the NE game, so Buffalo.
SEATTLE @ SAN FRANCISCO - I hope the Niners are for real. A complete WTF pick.
BALTIMORE @ SAN DIEGO - Ravens
PITTSBURGH @ CHICAGO - Pittsburgh
CLEVELAND @ DENVER - Browns I hope.
NY GIANTS @ DALLAS - Tony Romo and Jerry Jones must die. NY
INDIANAPOLIS @ MIAMI - No lolcat for you Miami. Colts.

In a segment from the Week One game between Philadelphia and Carolina, during which Panthers receiver Steve Smith was wearing a microphone, a bizarre exchange unfolded between Smith and quarterback Jake Delhomme, who coughed up five turnovers in a 38-10 drubbing.

Delhomme, whose confidence clearly is shattered, apologizes to Smith while the duo are sitting on the bench.

Says Smith: "I never really liked you as a quarterback. But as a person . . . I love you as a person."

surprise, NFL gives money to GOP. (lol @ photo selection for this article)
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0909/27299.html

The San Diego Chargers blew away the rest of the field with $2,455,200 in total money contributed, with most of that coming from team owner Alex Spanos, who has given more than $2 million, almost all of it to Republicans.

The Houston Texans contributed the second-highest amount after San Diego, sending $615,256 of its $623,456 total to Republicans. Next came the Arizona Cardinals, who gave 75 percent of $337,096 to Republicans.

The St. Louis Rams were the NFL’s biggest donor to Democrats, contributing $230,050, 98 percent of the team’s total.

Jamal Williams out for season. Chargers really don't have anyone who can replace him at nose tackle. I think they're fucked.

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Saturday, 19 September 2009 20:53 (fifteen years ago)

In a way, that is true of most clubs that run the 3-4, as the NT is really key to that defense. If the guy isn't that good and doesn't need to be double teamed, the linebackers get covered much easier.

"What happened to Welker anyway?"

Knowing the Pats, he probably was decapitated but will be listed as questionable for the rest of the season.

Bengals looked really good on their first drive, then on the second Palmer threw a strike to the Packers.

Cool punt return by the Bengals!!! AJ Hawk got back on the return to save the TD.

Bengals/Packers is settling into a pretty good game. Aaron Rogers is a pretty good QB. He is like the anti-Favre, as he seems very composed and controlled at the position.

"i feel like cbs tries to hide gus at the game that seems the blandest"
That must explain why Gus Johnson has done so many Bengals games over the past few years.

Aaron Rogers has gotten killed in the second half. Rogers won't make it through the season if he keeps getting hit like he has so far in the first two games. He got plastered a few times last week in the Bears game. The Packers don't seem to have much of a running game.

Cedric Benson up to 130 yards rushing. Dude played OK last year for the Bengals. He used to look so slow when he played for the Bears. Not sure what is the difference, but the guy is definitely looking like a real back now.

earlnash, Sunday, 20 September 2009 19:54 (fifteen years ago)

I assume garbage time, but maybe the Cards saw Palmer and Sanchito having good days and Cassel pulling it out late and just felt bad for him.

VegemiteGrrrl, Monday, 21 September 2009 02:18 (fifteen years ago)

Sometimes a guy is a great college QB, as he has a talent set that works in that game like Vince Young, but a bunch of these guys look killer as they play on a club with a huge amount of talent like many of those Florida QBs.

earlnash, Monday, 21 September 2009 02:23 (fifteen years ago)

also schemes in college on both sides of the ball are way simpler

call all destroyer, Monday, 21 September 2009 02:24 (fifteen years ago)

Russell does have a big arm, but really you need someone who can complete passes, which is why dudes like Garcia and Pennington have jobs. You throw a heck of alot more outs and screens in the bigs than bombs.

earlnash, Monday, 21 September 2009 02:25 (fifteen years ago)

niiiice. this manningham guy, who is he?

daria, actually (daria-g), Monday, 21 September 2009 02:26 (fifteen years ago)

I think Tebow may be the first FL qb to come out in the draft and not be a complete bust. He can't play pro like he does college, but the guy has proven to be adaptable.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 21 September 2009 02:26 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah. I hope Tebow plays out, be good to see him stick.

I think 'crazy awes' in college gets gobbled up so quickly in the NFL...the toughness you need to grind out game after game against huge dudes is pretty backbreaking. I'm just not sure if, in Jamarcus' case, that accuracy is something you can teach. I get the feeling it's kind of innate. But you know, old Al likes a big arm, so a big arm we've got.

anyhoo. Go Giants!

VegemiteGrrrl, Monday, 21 September 2009 02:27 (fifteen years ago)

Mario Manningham was a star WR at Michigan, but was way down on the NYG depth chart last year (I'm not sure he even got any game time).

Johnny Fever, Monday, 21 September 2009 02:27 (fifteen years ago)

Manningham was a pretty big star at Michigan, a Heismann canidate. Dude was a beast returning kicks with the Wolverines. He got busted with weed and his draft stock fell off.

I'm not sure Tim Tebow can be Big Ben Roffles, but I think they are kind of physically similar.

earlnash, Monday, 21 September 2009 02:28 (fifteen years ago)

I looked it up, Manningham did get like 400 yards of receiving yards, so he played. I'd imagine he didn't play much until the gun in the club stuff.

earlnash, Monday, 21 September 2009 02:29 (fifteen years ago)

if he's really 5'11 and 183 he's small to be a #1 wr but hard to argue with how he's playing atm

I assume Janikowski is susceptible because you probably have to work extra hard to get yourself ready when you're kicking with a bad hangover.

Eli is basically unfuckwithable to me because of the Super Bowl and because of the Michael Lewis article in the NYT Magazine that came out after his first year. Something about getting a Michael Lewis profile makes me love a dude (except for Bill Parcells). Like if the Giants got Michael Oher and then hired Mike Leach to coach I would consider leaving the Packers for the NYG.

the nyt has had some good articles abt eli, i think maybe there was a longer one that was in the magazine, you would not really expect it to turn out that he'd be a quarterback, much less successful in the NFL and win a certain game and so on. i just appreciate that it is a cool story even as i continue to root for the evil patriots machine

wanted to hate eli after the whole (archie-directed) refusal to play for san diego, but he has an . . . endearing blankness of personality, particularly for a title-winning qb in ny. some times, watching him, i wonder if he even enjoys football

i got no ill will against either team, let me state that clearly. i just find it hilarious, the two different concepts of playing that are on the offenses here. exhibit one: the douche guy who comes over and takes madden super fucking serious and plays right and probably creates his own player and does the whole "career mode" thing in his free time at hom. exhibit two: the guy who fake punt passes on first down against that douche in madden because that shit is hilarious and awesome.

he keeps saying it, and "happy birthday wildcat!" and it's a little disconcerting and also jaws will just randomly yell at him about how his obsession with the wildcat is bullshit but he keeps going and i feel kind of like this episode of MNF is like hanging out with my family and you know everyone's on the verge of just screaming at each other but not quite drunk enough yet for that to happen, but if dad says wildcat ONE MORE TIME omg...

Dunno... apparently Gruden really likes to make up nicknames! For everyone!

The coaching staff of the Tampa Bay Bucs have a special nickname for Lee Evans.

Head coach Raheem Morris referred to Evans as ‘Twister’ on his conference call with the Buffalo media today.

When asked how they came up with that nickname Morris explained.

“When we were scouting Evans when he was back at Wisconsin, coach Gruden, who was our head coach at the time said he ran so fast he was like a cyclone. And he called him ‘Twister.’ So since then we’ve referred to him that way.”

this is the hilarious thing to me - what were the dolphins doing WRONG before that people in MIAMI did not want to come once every two weeks (on average) to just have a party??! this is great to see people really psyched to be at a dolphins game, i'm actually looking forward to the concept of dolphins-jets MNF in a couple weeks and those are not words i'd ever think i'd say.

my least favorite part was looking for andy reid on the sideline and not seeing him there, which was confusing.

I kept looking around to see if Andy Reid was running things.

They'll be practicing two-min offense ALL WEEK. Parcells will actually come down onto the field and eat people who perform badly.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 04:04 (fifteen years ago)

schef and I on the same wavelength, obv.

that two minute drill was horrible...the horror...

everyone kills people (the schef (adam schefter ha ha)), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 04:05 (fifteen years ago)

re palin/favre/beck vs cowboys, i'm gonna run that one by my fellow skins fans. that's a tough one. i mean, it's the fucking COWBOYS.

daria, actually (daria-g), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 04:06 (fifteen years ago)

It'll be like Miracle where they're running the 2 minute drill til 3am, puking on the field and crying. And PArcells in his plaid pants won't let them leave til THEY UNDERSTAND THAT THEY MUST BEAT THE RUSSIANS.

VegemiteGrrrl, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 04:07 (fifteen years ago)

hahahaha i love the idea that even anti-abortionist, racist psuedo-fascists still are just not enough. jerry jones: so much worse.

everyone kills people (the schef (adam schefter ha ha)), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 04:07 (fifteen years ago)

in fairness, i guess jerry jones is the epitome of a dude that probably gets glenn beck.

everyone kills people (the schef (adam schefter ha ha)), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 04:08 (fifteen years ago)

jerry jones is Al Davis with better on-camera personality and better skin. they're like Cain and Abel for realz.

VegemiteGrrrl, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 04:09 (fifteen years ago)

when you get to hell, you will meet both Al and Jerry...little did we know the concept of 'Satan' was a double act.

VegemiteGrrrl, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 04:10 (fifteen years ago)

Al Davis is an old school crooked as hell Dem. street boss.

earlnash, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 04:11 (fifteen years ago)

hell is basically cowboys stadium except al davis now owns it.

everyone kills people (the schef (adam schefter ha ha)), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 04:11 (fifteen years ago)

the strippers, the hellmall, the giant tv looming over you, the ed hardy wearing dudes who paid $30 to stand in the parking lot, the tony romo crying...plus for some reason al davis is screaming at you to go find him lane kiffin.

everyone kills people (the schef (adam schefter ha ha)), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 04:12 (fifteen years ago)

i had a nightmare the other night that jay cutler kept hitting on me at a party and i could get him to go away and i feel like that'd probably figure in there too.

everyone kills people (the schef (adam schefter ha ha)), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 04:12 (fifteen years ago)

god jay cutler is totally that dude

horseshoe, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 04:13 (fifteen years ago)

schef, i thought about this scene and who would be most horrified by it and i realized i would root for the cowboys if they played against hipsters. cowboys win. that's all really

daria, actually (daria-g), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 04:15 (fifteen years ago)

Oh, just saw Singletary post-game from yesterday.

Reporter: "You guys aren't really throwing it a lot. Do you even need Crabtree on this team?"

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 04:16 (fifteen years ago)

i have a weird sort of love/hate with the entire nfc east but have no issue w/saying that atm giants are my favorite squad from those four by far

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 04:25 (fifteen years ago)

I would root for this offense:

QB: Manning
RB1: Jacobs
RB2: Felix Jones
FB: LeJohn McCain
WR1: Desean Jackson
WR2: Mario Manningham (because of the name, honestly)
TE: Chris Cooley
O-Line: Giants
