Chicago at San Francisco* → I had more confidence in da Bears, albeit misplaced, before I saw 'Zona stomp them last week. Now I'm confident da Bears will just find ways to lose.Detroit at Minnesota* → I missed the fun last week. <3 u Brett!New Orleans* at St. Louis → Close games the last couple weeks were out of character for the Saintses. I expect a four-score blowout this time.Tampa Bay at Miami* → Tampa Bay finally won a game! Now they'll lose one.Atlanta* at Carolina → This one will be incredibly close, but also incredibly boring save for a couple crackling runs by DeAngelo Williams and/or Michael Turner.Jacksonville at New York Jets* → The Jets might have finally fixed their problems, as long as having a bye week didn't make them regress. Buffalo at Tennessee* → Tennessee have definitely fixed their problems. Sorry, Bills.Cincinnati* at Pittsburgh → Cincinnati just seems like a team that is playing so far above their level for intangible reasons, and if the Stillers slip up even once the Bengals will take advantage.Denver* at Washington → Denver. Because... Washington, really?Kansas City* at Oakland → Kansas City. Because... Oakland, really?Seattle at Arizona* → 'Zona at home is a riskier prospect than 'Zona on the road, but Seattle losing on the road is an almost sure thing.Dallas* at Green Bay → Packers are eating dicks this year.Philadelphia* at San Diego → The only reason I'm picking Iggles here is because they're consistently inconsistent.New England* at Indianapolis → Colts have gotten pretty exposed the last few games, and the Pats have only looked better.Baltimore* at Cleveland → What we have here is an opportunity for Jaws and Gruden to get conversational in the booth for three hours. I'm looking forward to it. (Oh yeah, Ravens.)
8-5 in week 9, 88-41 on the season.

Chicago at San Francisco – I’m feeling the Bears will bounce back a bit and win, no good reason. I think Chicago just needs to open up the passing attack, start going with some no huddle and try and run up some points. They are still trying to play off the old offensive ideas, which works when you have a D, but the Bears are pretty weak this year on that side of the ball. SF has some bluster, but they are not anything special.Detroit at Minnesota- It would take a monumental screw-up for the Lions to win on the road against the Vikings. Won’t happen. I am curious on how big the spread might be, as I guess Vegas is getting taken to the cleaners often with so many of these teams being horrible.New Orleans at St. Louis- See above, even on the road, I can’t see the Saints losing to the Rams. LA could be able to run the ball and maybe make it interesting, but probably not.Tampa Bay at Miami- I said before that I do like the Dolphins and their schedule eases up. If I’m right, this is the start of them picking up some wins. Bucs won last week, but they still played kind of ugly going by the turnovers in the box score. Atlanta at Carolina- The Panthers are playing a bit better or at least not letting Delhomme lose games. The Falcons are pretty middling and don’t seem quite as explosive as last year, which makes me suspect them on the road. I’m taking the Falcons, but I don’t feel that good about it.Jacksonville at New York Jets- The Jags are a sneaky going nowhere 4-4, same as the Jets. Neither club is very consistent, but I would have to lean a bit on the Jets defense maybe being a bit better. I’m feeling Jacksonville in an upset.Buffalo at Tennessee- I’m not ready to crown a new age of Vincanity, but just the fact that he is a bit mobile has to improve over Collins who was kind of a sitting duck. I’m taking the Titans at home. Some loonie on the NFL network show I watched for a few minutes picked the Titans to end up 8-8. I won’t go that far, but they could beat the Bills who just don’t seem to have much of an identity either way.Cincinnati at Pittsburgh – Big time game and as much as I want Cinci to kick their ass, I’d have to see it happen this time. When Cowher was the coach, they would lose a bit more at home for a good club, but not as much in the last couple of years I’ll take the Steelers and hope I’m wrong. Hopefully the injuries don’t really start to expose the Bengal’s defense.Denver at Washington- This is kind of a trap game for the Broncos. I would believe that the Redskins defense could make a valiant stand and keep it close. Broncos are not all that, but they should win.Kansas City at Oakland- What a mess…I guess I will take Oaktown at home as I feel a Bruce Gradkowski sighting coming.Seattle at Arizona- AZ has been winning on the road and not winning at home, even when they are good they are not consistent. Seahawks have thumped a couple of rotten clubs, but I’m going to take the Cards to keep their s#@t straight and win a game they should win.Dallas at Green Bay - Green Bay’s lines are both pretty bad, I’d have to think that Dallas is going to smoke them. You have to wonder what happened to that Packer club from a couple of years ago that was really young and seemed loaded all over the place. Philadelphia at San Diego – SD seems to have gotten things together except the running game, which might not matter when you play the Eagles, as they don’t run the ball much either. I’m taking the Chargers in a close one.New England at Indianapolis – I’m wanting to take the Colts, but they are just due to lose one. I’ll take NE and be pissed off about the results either way.Baltimore at Cleveland- Bmore is not that great on defense anymore, but when you are playing against an offense that couldn’t move the ball in the Big Ten, it doesn’t really matter. Ravens it is.
Last week, mediocre 7-6. For the season, 88-41.

New Orleans at St. Louis- See above, even on the road, I can’t see the Saints losing to the Rams. LA could be able to run the ball and maybe make it interesting, but probably not.

BEREA, Ohio -- Cleveland Browns running back Jamal Lewis said he's frustrated by another losing season and believes coach Eric Mangini is pushing his players too hard.
Lewis, who intends to retire after this season, said Thursday that he doesn't want to be a "babysitter" to Cleveland's younger players. He wants to win and expressed disappointment that two- and three-hour practices aren't translating into wins for the team, which has a 1-7 record.
"There's talent all over this locker room, young and old," he said before practice. "There's talent everywhere, but that talent has got to be ready for Sunday, it's got to be fresh for Sunday. You can work all day, but if you're going to work like that, you're probably not going to get what you want out of your players."
While Lewis doesn't mind working hard, he said Mangini is wearing out his players. The team captain said he hasn't approached his coach about making changes.
"This is his show, not mine," Lewis said. "You got to take care of your crop. If you don't, when it comes time to harvest, you're not going to make no money because the crop is no good. That's that."
Lewis said the length and intensity of Mangini's practices are not the issue, it's that the first-year coach's approach isn't producing wins.
"If I'm going to come out here and work the way I work, then I want results," Lewis said. "Right now, that's not what's going on. I feel like it's just a waste of time for me."
Earlier, Mangini said he has changed his approach and adjusted this season.
Lewis was asked to comment on the coach's stance.
"Next question," he said.

i loled @ this email in simmons' column today
"Andy Reid is a great coach for 3 and a half quarters. In baseball, most starting pitchers do their job really well for most of the game, then need a little help to finish it out. I think you see where I'm going with this. The Eagles need a closer. A coach that they can bring in at the end of close games when they're trailing, or winning by a touchdown or less (save situations). As asinine as this sounds, tell me Eagles fans wouldn't strongly consider it."
― house of flying jaggers (J0rdan S.), Friday, 13 November 2009 17:16 (fifteen years ago)
Either have the Clock Management Closer come in and stand next to him, or even better, just have Reid actually leave the sideline and head into the locker room like a baseball pitcher. He could even get a standing O on his way out. I would love this. Who wouldn't love this?
i would love this

xpostas soon as he uses his first 2nd half timeout, ie around two minutes into the 3rd quarter, oompa loompas should come onto the sideline and roll him off to the locker room

aha, that accounts for why i keep imagining that green bay is a better team than they are, that last win over chicago was pretty awesome.

Always a gracious host, Chad Ochocinco sent a special gift for the Ravens ahead of their trip to Cincinnati this Sunday. On 105.7 FM earlier today, Ochocinco said he ordered gift baskets with deodorant to be sent to the Ravens’ secondary as well as Ray Lewis and Ed Reed. According to Ravens Insider:
“I not only sent them gift baskets, but I sent them something they could use so they don’t sweat,” Ochocinco said.

Andy Reid is like the Anti-Schottenheimer. That dude would start trying to kill the clock half way through the 3rd quarter. It would end up fxxcking him just as much as Reid's crazy lets throw three in completions and burn 40 seconds while taking a time out for everyone to tie their shoe kind of clock management.
― earlnash, Friday, 13 November 2009 22:32 (fifteen years ago)
I think a big problem is that the Bears seem to be trying to run the exact offense as they have run for the last few years except with no running game. Cutler needs to quit screwing up, but I think it is not too much to ask to have someone who can snap the ball in a shotgun either. Having to constantly pick the ball up off the rug when throwing a quick slant often leads to mistakes.
Considering their o-line is a bit screwy and yet they have a ton of speed in the skills guys, I think theoretically the Bears would be best trying to run some no-huddle stuff running out of the shotgun. That would not let clubs substitute to blitz like mad and could get some mismatches by getting the ball into Forte, Hester, Knox's hands letting them get a shot at making someone miss without having to have a big truck size hole cleared up by a lineman.
― earlnash, Friday, 13 November 2009 22:38 (fifteen years ago)

― bitter about emo (Hunt3r), Friday, 13 November 2009 22:50 (fifteen years ago)
i dont really blame cutler for sucking; that's what happens when you have no o-line and no receivers (besides a pretty good TE)
― NEW YORK DESERVED 9-11 (cankles), Friday, 13 November 2009 23:31 (fifteen years ago)
yeah my sense is that cutler and forte are a lot better than this. i don't think cutler is used to having a totally shitty o-line. i can't even begin to imagine what rex grossman would be playing like back there. 46 INTs by now?
― jØrdån (omar little), Friday, 13 November 2009 23:34 (fifteen years ago)
Last year Cutler was sacked 11 times all season, and yet somehow found a way to throw 18 picks. This year, more sacks means more picks, but he isn't really getting sacked all that much. I mean, especially compared to Rodgers, who has not thrown many picks at all. Favre, Romo, Rivers, Big Ben, McNabb, Flacco, Schaub all have 15+ sacks, but none of them have more than ten picks.
A bunch of his picks have been on plays when there isn't anyone pressuring him at all, imo.

it's weird, i don't really despise the jets this year? i mean, i do, because they are the new york football jets, but it's more like i hate them in principle now - i sorta find rex ryan and his wacky band of misfits endearing - just unfortunate that they work for such an odious franchise

brian dawkins on the broncos' loss today, fyi:
“Crisis? No. Tough spot? Absolutely,” safety Brian Dawkins(notes) said. “There’s not going to be too many teams that’s going to have a straight shot and not go through some adversity. … You can’t sit there and dwell on the piddly-poo of tears and worry about the last game. You have to move forward and that’s what we’re going to do.”

nah i mean, if it worked everybody would say bb was the most brilliant genius ever, but then it's like harrison saying, that says you don't trust the guys on the defense..
― C MON MAN (daria-g), Monday, 16 November 2009 05:24 (fifteen years ago)
ok guys i'm gonna post some thoughts abt this before i try to erase it from my mind.
belichick knew the defense was completely gassed--they played the entire game in a 2-4-5 since their 2nd and 3rd-best defensive lineman were inactive. the colts finally figured this out and realized they could double wilfork and run right by prior and wright and...oh yeah those are like the three guys that played. on reflection it's impressive that the defense held up for as long as it did but imo belichick rightly figured that they hadn't stopped the colts for an entire quarter (save a gift INT) and weren't about to start. so he put the game on the line with his offense and u know what? it damn near worked.
that being said what was really frustrating was that the colts made better adjustments as the game went on. in addition to figuring out how limited the pats defense was, they also realized that the pats offense was only using draws and delays for running plays, and the colts blew up several plays in the fourth that would have helped ice the game. gotta also hand it to mathis who had a great game, and the pats never figured out how to help kaczur on the right side.
finally lack of a third receiver is KILLING the pats and i'd venture a guess that the colts figured that out too--it's not a big role in the offense but you need someone competent to make plays when the opposing defense overcompensates for moss and welker. edelman and stanback are clearly not the answer yet (or possibly ever), and ben watson is a talented guy who will never be a go-to guy.
sadly good luck hearing abt most of that it's all gonna be LOL BELICHICK U TARD--i'm not saying he was right in going for it but i think he saw where the game was headed.

the two play calls on 3rd & 4th were super conservative & uncreative
― house of flying jaggers (J0rdan S.), Monday, 16 November 2009 05:31 (fifteen years ago)
i agree--can't run the spread if you're never going to throw to 2 of the 5 guys. that being said the fourth down play was inches from working and the third down play was a qb pressure where brady's arm was hit on release.
― omaha deserved 311 (call all destroyer), Monday, 16 November 2009 05:33 (fifteen years ago)

― SMH (ice cr?m), Monday, 16 November 2009 05:35 (fifteen years ago)
going for it was a pretty sane gamble imo. if the alternative is betting against peyton manning on a last minute cross-field drive, hell, going for a 4th and 6 wouldn't even be that crazy.

― C-L, Monday, 16 November 2009 05:47 (fifteen years ago)
it's not so much the concept of the call itself, it's that they were on the 28 yard line, and they had no time outs, and then called a play that didn't make a lot of sense to me.

CAD is mostly otm with his analysis there. the NE defense had died. indy had taken the ball 80 yards in 2 mins twice in that quarter. 2y of offense i would guess was the more sound option statistically by a mile. any other coach in the league make that call? say what you will but that dude has gigantic testicles and they have and will win more often because of that than lose. the move should've been matched by a slightly ballsier play call tho.
but they didn't lose the game on that play - they lost it on those two turnovers in the red zone when they already knew that they were down to the bare bones on defense and needed to help them out. pretty boneheaded turnovers too i thought.

Taken on its own, there's a certain logic in going for it on 4th and 2 in this situation.
But it was batshit insane given the poor clock management and bad play calls on that play and throughout the 4th quarter (offense and defense).
The Pats needed to commit to their running game in the 4th and just slow everything down and eat up as much clock as possible. Instead they tried lots of failed passing plays and then let the Colts speed down the field.
And tossing it to Faulk right at the 1st down line was wrong, wrong, wrong. There were several better options, just not that.
Rodney Harrison choking back the tears in the after game show damn near broke my heart.
― Moodles, Monday, 16 November 2009 18:13 (fifteen years ago)

i'm not sure how the clock management and other calls affect this one? if anything they added to the sense of urgency and the fact that the pats really needed to steal one.
― omaha deserved 311 (call all destroyer), Monday, 16 November 2009 18:27 (fifteen years ago)
Honestly don't think this game mattered at all. New England and Indy will both win their divisions, and will probably play the Colts in the playoffs and be healthier when it happens. A lot of hubbub over very little.
― windy = white, carl = black (polyphonic), Monday, 16 November 2009 18:28 (fifteen years ago)
i'm not sure how the clock management and other calls affect this one?
i think going for it on fourth would've been much more defensible if they hadn't unnecessarily blown two time outs on that offensive drive (didn't they call one on first down coming out of a tv time out or something?)
― house of flying jaggers (J0rdan S.), Monday, 16 November 2009 18:31 (fifteen years ago)
yeah they did. timeouts would have been useful to stop the colts from running out the clock which is why my first inclination was to let them score.
― omaha deserved 311 (call all destroyer), Monday, 16 November 2009 18:59 (fifteen years ago)
With 2 minutes left it makes more sense to force the Colts to move the ball 70 or 80 yards than to give them the opportunity to only go 30.
― Moodles, Monday, 16 November 2009 19:00 (fifteen years ago)

― house of flying jaggers (J0rdan S.), Monday, 16 November 2009 19:10 (fifteen years ago)
remember that on monday night this season, the dolphins sat on the ball & kicked a FG assuming that their defense could stop the colts from getting a TD and they scored a TD in like 5 plays
― house of flying jaggers (J0rdan S.), Monday, 16 November 2009 19:11 (fifteen years ago)
I think if they kicked to Indy, the Pats would have had a decent shot at running down the clock without an Indy TD.
― Moodles, Monday, 16 November 2009 19:14 (fifteen years ago)
I think they convert that fourth down maybe half of the time, but stop Indy maybe 1 out of 5 times based on how shredded their defense was.
― windy = white, carl = black (polyphonic), Monday, 16 November 2009 19:17 (fifteen years ago)

also far as the running game.. if memory serves they did try that at least partway into the 4th and it wasn't working? they only had maroney/faulk
― C MON MAN (daria-g), Monday, 16 November 2009 19:32 (fifteen years ago)
the pats running game is passing short to welker. when they can get him the ball 10-12 times a game in little 4/5 yard patterns that let him run after the catch they are pretty much unstoppable. like i said last night, i think the play call on fourth was just obvious & uncreative esp from what you would expect from the pats. idk how they don't try and get moss or welker in space. it's like they got totally spooked by the blitz on third down.

also HOLY CRAP GUYS.
1) it was a bad call not because percentages blabbity blah blah blah but based on how the pats were playing at that point in time (not well) versus the fact that the colts were running their "every other possession" offense in which they score in 30 seconds one possession, and then hurtle the ball straight at the defense in the next. so it's putting a lot of stock in the concept that the pats offense could get the first down after the series of missteps and mistakes that immediately proceeded the call. 2) yes, everyone is right that regardless of the decision, the colts were going to win that game so who even cares, in many ways this was a zen koan.3) anyone who is all like WORST DECISION EVER is a fucking retard who apparently is unfamiliar with norv turner, brad childress, andy reid, eric mangini, etc. i mean it was just your run-of-the-mill questionable call here where you are like, "yeah well i guess the dude figured either way the colts would score so might as well try to keep the ball" where you understand it but are like "why so negative on your d lil bro, the plays leading up to this did not indicate that your o could accomplish this thing". as opposed to seriously literally having no idea what a person could've possibly been thinking at the time they chose to do that thing.
i don't even understand why this is an argument.
― everyone kills people (the schef (adam schefter ha ha)), Monday, 16 November 2009 19:39 (fifteen years ago)

watched some vince young highlights - he played pretty well yesterday it seems like - looks confident in the pocket, didn't force anything, scrambled judiciously - his TD pass was on third & 10 with the bills brining the house - his INT wasn't a terrible read/pass, just kinda put too much air under the ball - the titans had two huge plays out of the option w/ vince pitching it to chris johnson - i still wouldn't be shocked if they drafted a qb, maybe in the 3rd/4th round, but they play well with him & his mobility lets them do some things and also allows him to be more careful with the ball which def fits their philosophy
― house of flying jaggers (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 17 November 2009 00:28 (fifteen years ago)
those blood red cards jerseys were BUTT imo but beanie was an animal yesterday - dude really reminds me of peterson, big and strong and fast, makes good, sharp cuts, has a great burst (peep his 4th down td run) and he runs violent as FUCK when he gets going. he was bouncing off dudes and throwing corners around yesterday. he's gonna be really, really good for them if he can catch passes
― house of flying jaggers (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 17 November 2009 00:38 (fifteen years ago)
for some reason it just hit me as to how insanely retarded it was for the raiders to take sebastian janikowski in the first round - totally underrated in the senile davis wtf years - (btw darrius heyward-bey is comically bad) - they wanted a speed receiver but didn't take maclin or percy - i know this goes without saying but *_*

now obv heyward-bey is a bit of a product of his team & QB (he is really bad at catching but still) but this WR class looks positively amazing
7: heyward-bey - ~_~10: crabtree - jury is out but should be v solid19: maclin - budding star at best complimentary game breaker at worst22: harvin - star, will make pro bowl as a returner, could get there as a WR if the vikes can find a good QB after favre29: hakeem nicks - solid contributor, could be a solid #2, at the very worst a good interchangeable 2/3 w manningham30: kenny britt - already making plays, probably the first WR in a while that the titans have that can legit stretch the field36: brian robiske - okay not sure about this guy, he was good in college tho50: massaquoi - the only bright spot on the browns offense this year?
louis murphy & brian hartline are also v solid 4th round picks, johnny knox is decent for the 5th round

for some reason this past week i was pondering who the all-decade kicker should be, and i'd say janikowski has a pretty good case for the best kicker 2000-2009. played the whole decade, great kickoffs in a windy environment (though I'm sure winters in oakland are pretty mild) - olindo mare has a better touchback percentage (24.56 to janikowski's 20.76), but he also played the bulk of his career in miami. outside of those two you have a lot of iffy candidates... bironas has been sensational but only been playing like 4 or 5 years, same deal with scobee & gostkowski, akers cooled down in the second half of the decade, rackers looks alright on paper but benefits from some of the best kicking conditions in the league (he was crap in cincinatti), jason hanson's career numbers are pretty amazing but you have to adjust for the fact that he's played 18 seasons in a dome plus kickoffs before 1999 were from the 35 yard line... etc

sorta interesting from the boston.com pats blog:
In another corner of the country, a high school coach named Kevin Kelley approved the move, too. Kelley has gained recognition for his aggressive, and successful, team at Pulaski Academy in Little Rock, Ark. He goes for it on every fourth down on every drive, at any spot on field, no matter the distance. And it works. They won the state championship two years ago. His team has a quarterfinals game this weekend. Just yesterday, Kelley sent film of his team to Texas Tech coach Mike Leach, at Leach’s request.
Kelley frames the debate of Belichick’s decision in an utterly novel way: What if we are making a category mistake about punting altogether?
“Let’s say you have never seen another punt,” Kelley said this evening in a telephone interview. “You didn’t know what a punt was. Belichick trots a guy who doesn’t look like he even plays football to kick it down to the other team. He didn’t try to keep the ball. He just gave it to the other team!
“People are programmed to think on fourth down and 2 on your own 28, you punt the ball. If people could grasp the percentages, that would change the mentality.”*
A handful of high-profile college and NFL coaches have reached Kelley to discuss his strategy. (“They don’t want to be named,” Kelley said.) Most of them find it intriguing, some of them find it tempting. They all have a similar ultimate reaction.
“They say, ‘I can’t do this. I’ll get fired,’ ” Kelley said. “It’s rough. When you think about that much money being involved at that level, they’re willing to sacrifice what they think because they don’t want to lose their jobs. Maybe I would, too.

HA, check this out. I think the NBA needs this kind of press release.
Media release from the Australian Football League 4:21 PM Tue 10 November, 2009
THE AFL has welcomed Tuesday's statement by the Victorian Commission for Gambling Regulation (VCGR) about the integrity of AFL matches.
The VCGR said not only was it satisfied that sufficient measures are in place to safeguard the sport’s integrity but the AFL had exceeded the VCGR’s own benchmarks.
AFL General Manager Legal and Business Affairs, Andrew Dillon, said it was happy to assist the VCGR with its inquires after it wrote to the AFL in August seeking its views.
“The AFL welcomes the VCGR’s statement and its support for the range of measures we have implemented to safeguard the integrity of AFL matches,” he said.
“The AFL has worked diligently to strengthen our procedures that protect the integrity of the game and we want to assure all clubs, players and supporters that we will continue to do so.”

Yeah but in anti-fantasy he prob has 1 million points (unless blocked XPs do not count as missed XPs).
― C-L, Tuesday, 17 November 2009 03:34 (fifteen years ago)
yeah this is the final week of the hauschka experiment for me--i was like there's no way a kicker can be THIS bad, right?

― weatheringdaleson, Tuesday, 17 November 2009 03:36 (fifteen years ago)
what a terrible offense
― omaha deserved 311 (call all destroyer), Tuesday, 17 November 2009 03:36 (fifteen years ago)
My all-time standard for poor special teams was a freshman high school football game--admittedly, featuring a kid who probably had kicked for like four days in his entire life--where the punter struck the ball too high up, which made it sail directly over his head and out of the back of his own end zone. It was AMAZING.
― C-L, Tuesday, 17 November 2009 03:36 (fifteen years ago)
i can't believe this offense
― brownie, Tuesday, 17 November 2009 03:37 (fifteen years ago)
xp hahahaha that rules
― omaha deserved 311 (call all destroyer), Tuesday, 17 November 2009 03:38 (fifteen years ago)
The AFL draft machine is even better, as you can pick a position, go for a skill than add in TALL and it wills show you who your club should draft.
― earlnash, Tuesday, 17 November 2009 03:38 (fifteen years ago)
THANK GOD

Jesus, hauschka. You SUCK
i know right! if he missed it i was gonna be behind again
― omaha deserved 311 (call all destroyer), Tuesday, 17 November 2009 03:40 (fifteen years ago)
Average Gain Per Play 2.9
i can't even fathom how a group of "professionals" could end up with this result - it literally boggles the mind
― house of flying jaggers (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 17 November 2009 03:40 (fifteen years ago)
yeah.. a few min ago gruden and jaws gave up & basically said the reason the browns offense doesn't work is because nearly all the players are terrible
― C MON MAN (daria-g), Tuesday, 17 November 2009 03:41 (fifteen years ago)
I saw a kid get kicked out of a JV football game for kicking a kid in the nads after he said they were "biting" him at the bottom of a pile. I was next to the coach when it happened, the ref came over and said to our coach, "Number 32 is ejected from the game, he kicked the boy in the groin." I swear I have chuckled about that scene for years.
― earlnash, Tuesday, 17 November 2009 03:41 (fifteen years ago)
I'm currently tied in my fantasy game (tho I have more points on my bench - tiebreaker). He needs to not miss any more kicks this game.
― Mordy, Tuesday, 17 November 2009 03:41 (fifteen years ago)
Hahaha Mike and Jaws are like "Forget it Gruden. It's the 2009 Cleveland Browns offense."
― C-L, Tuesday, 17 November 2009 03:41 (fifteen years ago)
i'm glad all these youth football disaster stories are coming out for this browns game
― omaha deserved 311 (call all destroyer), Tuesday, 17 November 2009 03:42 (fifteen years ago)
Sad thing is that Cleveland actually has the basis for a decent defense.
I'm wondering if some of these clubs are just trying too freaking hard on offense. Just set them up in an I and run a classic offense. If you don't have Brady or Manning, you don't have to try and set it up like you do.
― earlnash, Tuesday, 17 November 2009 03:43 (fifteen years ago)
longtime browns dude here switching my allegiance to mordy's fantasy team
― weatheringdaleson, Tuesday, 17 November 2009 03:43 (fifteen years ago)
can they really be called screens if no one blocks?
― omaha deserved 311 (call all destroyer), Tuesday, 17 November 2009 03:44 (fifteen years ago)
to put that 2.9 number in perspective:
last year the lions lost to the saints 42-7 to go 0-15. they started dan orlovsky, who finished the game with a QB rating 24.7. and yet they still managed to average 4.6 yds per play.
― house of flying jaggers (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 17 November 2009 03:44 (fifteen years ago)
bubble screens and quick screens were a good innovation for the nfl but the PENDULUM HAS SWUNG TOO FAR
― omaha deserved 311 (call all destroyer), Tuesday, 17 November 2009 03:45 (fifteen years ago)
my team is america's fantasy team
― Mordy, Tuesday, 17 November 2009 03:47 (fifteen years ago)
you can't really run bubble/quick screens when your WRs are not quick and have zero potential to make a guy miss - you might as well just kneel the ball at that point
― house of flying jaggers (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 17 November 2009 03:48 (fifteen years ago)
GO MORDY
― brownie, Tuesday, 17 November 2009 03:48 (fifteen years ago)
what is this offense even called when you call a weird motion or fake end-around on every run? do they do this in the college game?
― omaha deserved 311 (call all destroyer), Tuesday, 17 November 2009 03:51 (fifteen years ago)
Maybe at Air Force.
― earlnash, Tuesday, 17 November 2009 03:52 (fifteen years ago)
the fake end around is to try and stop backside pursuit

Brady Quinn looks so overwhelmed every time they show him running off the field.
― C-L, Tuesday, 17 November 2009 03:55 (fifteen years ago)
i know what it's for but i have never seen an nfl team run this style of offense
― omaha deserved 311 (call all destroyer), Tuesday, 17 November 2009 03:58 (fifteen years ago)
they must have no faith in their offensive line to block ppl? idk, i'm not watching the game
― house of flying jaggers (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 17 November 2009 04:00 (fifteen years ago)
the 07 QBs are so dreadful
JaMarcus Russell QB LSU 1 1(1) Oakland Brady Quinn QB Notre Dame 1 22(22) Cleveland Kevin Kolb QB Houston 2 4(36) Philadelphia John Beck QB Brigham Young 2 8(40) Miami Drew Stanton QB Michigan State 2 11(43) Detroit Trent Edwards QB Stanford 3 28(92) Buffalo Isaiah Stanback QB Washington 4 4(103) Dallas Jeff Rowe QB Nevada 5 14(151) Cincinnati Troy Smith QB Ohio State 5 37(174) Baltimore Jordan Palmer QB UTEP 6 31(205) Washington Tyler Thigpen QB Coastal Carolina 7 7(217) Minnesota
Kolb is good, but never plays!
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 17 November 2009 04:01 (fifteen years ago)
Stanback's a WR now, so there's that.
kolb excepted, and i guess trent edwards....
the dolphins drafted john beck, cut him the following year, and then this year traded a 5th (?) rd pick for thigpen
― house of flying jaggers (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 17 November 2009 04:02 (fifteen years ago)
Cleveland Comp Att Yds Pct Y/A Sack YdsL TD Int Rating B. Quinn 10 21 67 47.6 3.2 3 19 0 2 15.5
this has to be one of the worst performances of all time
― house of flying jaggers (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 17 November 2009 04:05 (fifteen years ago)
We should probably start our 2010 draft speculation thread sometime soon.
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 17 November 2009 04:06 (fifteen years ago)
anderson has finished a game with a 10.5 rating this year & he's also posted a 15.1 - brady is within striking distance here
― house of flying jaggers (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 17 November 2009 04:07 (fifteen years ago)
don't except trent edwards, really.
― horseshoe, Tuesday, 17 November 2009 04:07 (fifteen years ago)
Can we call this game 10 mins early on account of boredom?
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 17 November 2009 04:08 (fifteen years ago)
I think there was a Rex Grossman performance against GB once (last game of 2006, I think) where he threw like 4 INTs and had a rating of 0.0, but he got pulled at halftime. I remember that game because it brought me so much joy.
― C-L, Tuesday, 17 November 2009 04:08 (fifteen years ago)
lol you weren't a wildcat, you were a mildcat.

he had been working on that for a while
― omaha deserved 311 (call all destroyer), Tuesday, 17 November 2009 04:12 (fifteen years ago)
there should be a constantly updating leaderboard of low qb ratings by browns QBs lording over their sideline a la

a meaningless play for the browns is kind of redundant, sorry brownie
― bnw, Tuesday, 17 November 2009 18:32 (fifteen years ago)
He was sent home early Tuesday morning after being evaluated for several hours by doctors. His agent, however, is livid at the Browns for putting him in position to be injured on a meaningless play."I can't even put into words how upset I am at them for leaving him in like that,'' J.R. Rickert told the Cleveland Plain Dealer in a text. "Fortunately, he's doing well.''

rickert added, "was there a game last night?"
― jØrdån (omar little), Tuesday, 17 November 2009 18:34 (fifteen years ago)
I was willing to give Mangini time here but last night was pretty much it for me.
― brownie, Tuesday, 17 November 2009 18:50 (fifteen years ago)
yeah i just feel bad for everyone on that team, i can't even rail against the shitty play of the QBs because i feel like a lot of what's wrong with the offense comes right back to mangini.
― jØrdån (omar little), Tuesday, 17 November 2009 18:59 (fifteen years ago)
Since Mangini hired a nobody like Daboll to run the offense it does come back to him. It's hard to figure out what exactly the game plan was last night. It looked like it was built around throwing outside screens all night puncuated by the wildcat.

i think mangini's hell will be ironic, like spending eternity lined up behind center, protected by their current o-line and forced to run his own plays.
