So Bobby Hebert does the post-game shows for a local New Orleans station and after the Pats game these are some of the choice quotes he let fly:
"I don't know if I can say this but that was a ASS WHOOPIN!"
"We done whipped the whole Northeast's ass beby!"
"Who in the hell can do anything in the AFC?"
"You just got punched in the frickin jaw!"
"You betta pack a lunch when you playin da Saints!"
"We goin outta space, we goin universe."
"Belli-check-yourself."
and my favorite:
"Go back home to the Northeast, you frickin garbage. You frickin garbage!"

Tons of wild ass guesses this week.

Jets > Buf
Atl > Phi
Chi > StL
Cin > Det
Ind > TN (would love TN to win, but I don't see it happening)
Den > KC
NE > Miami, but seriously considering changing it. NE is SHIT on the road.
Pit > Oak
NO > Wash -- SHAKEN BABY SYNDROME
Car > TB
Jax > Hou -- might switch this
SD > Cle
Dal > NYG
SF > Sea
Minn > AZ
GB > Bal -- could kind of see Bal taking a lot of frustrations out on GB in this one though

13-3 last week; 125-51 season

fyi dude, it's probably not a good idea to advertise how easy your job is compared to the shit most of your teammates do every day.

Fetchboy, Wednesday, 2 December 2009 22:58 (fifteen years ago)

New York Jets at Buffalo – I don’t really know which of these clubs you can count on more. I’m wanting to lean to the Bills, but I have to think that the Jets will be able to run the ball against them. I’m taking the Jets, but I don’t feel that solid about it.
Detroit at Cincinnati – The Bengals should win, but while they are running the ball well, they make too many mistakes and are way too passive in the air game to easily put away cruddy teams. I think they should go to some more play action passing and try to put some of these clubs out.
Denver at Kansas City – Denver rolled the Giants, but going into KC has always been tough for people in that division. Broncos to win, but if they get upset, I wouldn’t be surprised.
St. Louis at Chicago – Good lord the Bears better win this one. Urlacher in that one article posted on the thread last week was “why aren’t we trying to run the ball and just p with with good defense”. Hello, Chicago cannot do either one that is why.
Houston at Jacksonville - I really think the Texans are a better team, but the Jags are playing to go somewhere in January (even though they really are not a contender). Jags it is.
New England at Miami – The Pats should win, but I think they should be stepped down a bit from elite club status.
New Orleans at Washington—Saints have played down to some lesser competition, but you pretty much have to take them to win right now, as that was a mighty asswhupping they put on NE.
Oakland at Pittsburgh – Dixon looked OK in his start. I don’t know who is going to be QB, but the Steelers should be OK to win.
Philadelphia at Atlanta – Philly should win, but you never know week to week how good they are going to play.
San Francisco at Seattle – Who knows…I guess Seahawks at home.
Tampa Bay at Carolina – Panthers stink but I think Tampa is one of the worse messes. Carolina to win.
Tennessee at Indianapolis – I keep picking the Colts to lose and they keep winning. Colts have been kind of immune to the running QB clubs like the Titans with Young and Falcons with Vick. Titans used to have the Colts number, but other than last year, they haven’t had much success in the past few years. What the heck…I’ll take the Titans as I keep picking them and they keep winning.
San Diego at Cleveland – Chargers should win, but Cleveland has played a bit better of late.
Dallas at New York Giants – In my mind, I want to take the Giants but they are pretty flat. I’m going to take Dallas, but you can’t count on them for much. Who knows.
Minnesota at Arizona – Vikings are to win until proven wrong. I could see the Cards giving them a good game, especially if Warner is back.
Baltimore at Green Bay – This is an interesting matchup, but I have to think the Ravens will sack Rogers a bunch and win the game.

10-6 last week, as my upsets didn't really hook. 120-56 for the year.

"Jim Sorgi is being bothered by a right shoulder injury and hasn't practiced in a couple of weeks. I won't be surprised if the Colts place Sorgi on the season-ending injured reserve list."

Braylon Edwards should not be allowed to claim that he is going to have a big game anymore. I mean Ochocinco is going out there and delivering on his promises week after week, and Braylon Edwards is like "watch out y'all" and then gets hit in the face with a football.

The Confederate spy network gave a forewaring of the Union intentions and allowed Southern reinforcements to be moved from the Shenandoah Valley to Manassas. Even the public was aware of the Union's plans. On the day of the battle, carriages filled with spectators eager to see the Confederate defeat flocked from Washington to the battle site.

<a href="http://archives.chicagotribune.com/2008/nov/10/sports/chi-10-morrissey-bears-chicagonov10";>Blaming Rex Grossman misses point</a>

If there’s anything the 51/2-year Rex Grossman era has shown, it’s that you can’t count on the guy to win a game for you. Doesn’t mean he can’t win a game that needs to be won, just that you can’t count on him to do it.

It’s why the boos that rained down on Grossman at times Sunday were silly. He was starting only because Kyle Orton was out with the dreaded “high” ankle sprain (as opposed to the less insidious “low” ankle sprain or the exotic “somewhere-in-between” ankle sprain).

When Grossman sauntered onto Soldier Field in his familiar No. 8 jersey, the people in the stands were expecting … what, exactly? That he’d pull a game out of his helmet? That after so much inactivity, someone would play Dorothy with an oilcan to his Tin Man rustiness? That he would suddenly morph into the star he had never been?

If you thought all of that was a logical expectation, you had every reason to boo. But if you thought you’d see what you saw Sunday — a guy who finished with a 64.4 passer rating — then, in essence, you were booing Orton’s uncooperative ankle.

It’s why the Bears lost.

Rex Grossman throws interception for Texans

An injury to Houston Texans starting quarterback Matt Schaub has given former Bears' whipping boy Rex Grossman his first playing time of the season today against the Jacksonville Jaguars. But it has been "Bad Rex" so far.

After Schaub suffered a separated shoulder while being sacked on the Texans' first play from scrimmage, Grossman entered and promptly threw an interception on his second pass.

football consultant, washington redskins (daria-g), Sunday, 6 December 2009 19:09 (fifteen years ago)

schaub back on and moved it straight down field for a td. grossman did use his limited window of opportunity to throw a pick and fumble the ball. disappointed he didn't get chance to run the ball back into his own end zone and get sacked fro 2.

pats.. desperately need a 3rd receiver, couldn't find one, secondary has a lot of really young players i think, oline not so hot. i don't know why they ran the ball on 3rd and 7 right there

football consultant, washington redskins (daria-g), Sunday, 6 December 2009 20:46 (fifteen years ago)

Basically, the Pats have some great players, but completely lack any depth. They seriously need a third WR or some better TEs, they need to be more consistent with their running game and on defense their secondary has some holes.

I had to go into work so I only tuned in a few minutes ago. What a day for upsets. Wes Welker was like stalker pissed on the sidelines. I also didn't realize that the Dolphins had bought and started using the old Houston Oiler's song.

Oaktown drops another AFC Central club and the Steelers bite it at home. It is surprising how much better your club is when you don't have a complete moron playing QB. Gradkowski isn't going to be a star, but the guy isn't an idiot and he can complete better than half of his passes.

I'll say this from watching the last part of the Titans and Colts game, Vince Young looks a heck of a lot better in the short passing game.

Washington's D is stout. They are another club that if they had a bit better offense, they are playoff ready.

johnny crunch, Sunday, 6 December 2009 21:44 (fifteen years ago)

WSH reception, receiver upended, ball comes loose but the side judge was blowing the play dead and called receiver down by contact immediately. Sean Payton called a time out just before the next play; replay crew decides to review the play during the break. Reversed, called fumble, saints recover.

johnny crunch, Sunday, 6 December 2009 21:59 (fifteen years ago)

Colts/Pats had the rivalry element, but the Patriots are still having a perfectly fine year (although not today!), and Cincinnati has won most of their games since also. But this would have been the best thing that happened all season for the Redskins, and then...it didn't. This was kind of like the Ravens-Patriots game during the 18-1 season when the Ravens ended up going like 4-12 but were ahead of New England until the very end.

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 8 December 2009 04:35 (fifteen years ago)

Career

Jon's profession is never made entirely clear. In the earlier strips, he makes his living as a cartoonist, but since then readers haven't seen him at work. The TV series Garfield and Friends does show him several times as a cartoonist. The current strips aren't clear about whether Jon is still a cartoonist, as one strip suggested he now works for a flute factory (whether he was fired or not from his previous job is unclear). However in Garfield Rolls On, Jon does go to a cartoonist convention. In one comic, Garfield mentions that Jon holds a Masters's Degree in Special Education, even though he thought of it as a waste of money.
