hey now, eagles are entertaining football, cowboys are spectacular failures, eli is cute, redskins are.. wacky?

awkwardness a few minutes ago as i reacted strangely to this one dude walking into my building, had to explain.. sorry! it's your redskins hat! that's why i'm smh

i had to apologize for that trick play thing even though, like i told dan, it was the execution, not the play calling. we discussed some plays i might call next week & how i can incorporate 90000 fans at fedex throwing snowballs into the game plan.

johnny crunch, Friday, 25 December 2009 04:02 (fifteen years ago)

Season 150-74, last week mediocre 9-7...

Chargers @ Titans - I think the Titans are a bit knicked up, so I will take the Bolts on the road.
Bills @ Falcons - Falcons did well last week, but they are inconsistent. I could see the Bills winning, but I will go Falcons.
Chiefs @ Bengals - Cincy needs this one pretty bad to close out the division. Chiefs D is pretty porous, so I think the Bengals should win.
Raiders @ Browns - This will probably be a close game. Both clubs have a fair to middling defense, a bit of a running game and complete horrible QB play. I'll take the Browns at home with the Cribbs factor.
Seahawks @ Packers- Packers need this one pretty bad after letting the Steelers off the hook. GB's defense is helter skelter, look good and awful in alternating times. Take GB.
Texans @ Dolphins- Both of these clubs have the talent to go to the playoffs, but neither is going to get it done. I'm going to take Miami in a squeaker, even though I think they are kind of banged up.
Jaguars @ Patriots- Pats should win, but they are not the same club from a few years ago.
Buccaneers @ Saints- Saints should win. Bucs are awful and NO should not let them hang around.
Panthers @ Giants- Panthers D looked pretty good against Minnesota, but I think the Giants will have enough to get a win.
Ravens @ Steelers- This is going to be a thug off, but neither clubs defense is what it used to be. Flacco has put up some serious numbers against terrible clubs. I want to take the Ravens, but I figure the Steelers will have just enough to win and totally screw up the wild card race.
Rams @ Cardinals- Arizona should win this one. The Rams should be relegated to the CFL.
Lions @ 49ers- Niners D should win this one.
Jets @ Colts- I could see the Jets hanging around in this one. Colts to win and hopefully get out of this one without any major injuries.
Broncos @ Eagles- I could see the Eagles having a let down, but I'm still going to take them to win.
Cowboys @ Redskins- Cowboys better win this one. It would be funny as hell if they didn't.
Vikings @ Bears- The Bears have gone from tragedy to comedy. Vikings should win, but as "it would be funny as hell if they didn't."

― horseshoe, Sunday, December 27, 2009 4:41 PM (8 minutes ago) Bookmark

lol this is a very mild way of encapsulating the average carolina fan's feelings about the season

it's truly astonishing how many horrible games they went through while sticking with jake - and they'd just trot him out week after week, and worse yet they would attempt to execute gameplans that required him to pass 25-30 times a game. jake wasn't just having a bad/unlucky streak either, he's clearly just finished mentally. he's terrified to throw into zone coverage, he can't step up into the pocket, whenever he gets touched he either fumbles or lobs the ball to the middle of the field for anyone to catch. with moore at the helm they seem to understand that they have the best running game in the league and their passing game can naturally flow from that... john fox is basically gonna get himself fired b/c of jake delhomme

lol i know, right? wtf was delhomme throwing all those passes any damn way?

horseshoe, Sunday, 27 December 2009 22:02 (fifteen years ago)

In the current NFL, pretty much unless you have at least decent QB play, you are not going anywhere at all. It's always been that way, but the rules have gotten so much in the offensive passing favor, that completing 60% of your passes and 3500 yards is pretty much average where it would have been All Pro ten or twelve years ago.

earlnash, Sunday, 27 December 2009 22:03 (fifteen years ago)

The funny thing about Delhomme is that it's not like he was ever a GREAT quarterback. He had some nice years, but he was never a guy who scared me.

doomed... to fart (cankles), Sunday, 27 December 2009 22:09 (fifteen years ago)

"wtf was delhomme throwing all those passes any damn way?"

I think some of it is the monkey see monkey do nature of the league. Everyone wants to try to run the razzle dazzle that other clubs do, so they try to do it with personnel where it won't work. The Niners had one good game with Alex Smith throwing the ball and then all of the sudden they are throwing it 40 times a game, you know? I think clubs see NE or the Colts or Philly or Arizona and they try to do a similar scheme, when their personnel just doesn't fit. While Washington has still been a bottom dweller, they looked more competent at times by streamlining their offense back down to just running the ball and going with a more straight forward passing offense. Early in the season, they would try all sorts of odd motion stuff and they just looked like they didn't know what they were doing half the time. Miami is a club that runs an offense that fits what they have. It's not flashy, but it has worked somewhat OK, even when they went to an inexperienced QB.

earlnash, Sunday, 27 December 2009 22:10 (fifteen years ago)

Jake Delhomme made a ton of money after hitting on those bombs in the Superbowl. He had one killer big game and pretty much has rode that on. Problem is that the guy was never that good a bomber as that Superbowl. Some of that might be their offensive scheming. Don't really know that they have many good receivers outside of Steve Smith.

earlnash, Sunday, 27 December 2009 22:12 (fifteen years ago)

There are some pretty good QBs in that interception list.

Addai has lost a step and cant get any yards on those stretch sweep plays, which used to be his bread and butter. He really does better between the tackles. Some of that might be the Colts o-line, but I think some of it is Addai. As I said though, the guy is a decent all around player, but I think he is more of a receiving back at this point.

Though there's plenty to be determined regarding the seeding of the AFC and NFC playoff teams, our pal Todd Wright of Sporting News Radio has pointed out the possibility that each of the wild-card playoff games could be rematches of Week 17 contests.

Next Sunday, the Cowboys host the Eagles, the Cardinals host the Packers, the Jets host the Bengals, and the Texans host the Patriots.

Depending on the outcome of those and other games, all four of those games could be played again the following weekend.

Guys I was on an airplane most of today watching the Colts-Jets thing and I will not lie, there were times in that game (i.e. the entire Curtis Painter section) where I was like "I wish I could discuss this with ILNFL."

Also what in the hell how is SNF about to discuss Brett Favre during a game between two teams that Brett Favre does not play for?

Here is a crazy thought, will the Browns flush out the Mangenius if they finish winning out their last four games? Crazy as it seems, the Browns have been playing improved football in the second half. Some of that is how bad they got off to a start, it couldn't really 'get' worse.

Not sure what the Browns are going to do, but I have been wondering about that one.

JAY CUTLER!!!

You guys the first down long bomb is almost exactly how Favre beat the Broncos years ago in a Monday Night Game.

C-L, Tuesday, 29 December 2009 05:03 (fifteen years ago)

favre & cutler hugging is a total douche formal

favre really clasped him quite dramatically

This puts Philly one game away from a bye.

Mordy, Tuesday, 29 December 2009 05:04 (fifteen years ago)

i think gruden had the camera for a second there

bnw, Tuesday, 29 December 2009 05:04 (fifteen years ago)

Say what you will on Cutler, Rex Grossman is not going to make that play.

It didn't really come together this year for the Bears, but if they can rebuild the o-line to actually have a run game, they will be OK. They got some nice young players at WR and a good TE.

earlnash, Tuesday, 29 December 2009 05:05 (fifteen years ago)

I swear to God, I will donate $20 to Diabetes research if Jay Cutler can win this game. I am not kidding.

Why do I hate Favre's face so much?

Mordy, Tuesday, 29 December 2009 05:07 (fifteen years ago)

because he is a terrible person

I am making a donation to the American Diabetes Association in Jay Cutler's name.

xpost hey that is great

everyone kills people (the schef (adam schefter ha ha)), Tuesday, 29 December 2009 05:10 (fifteen years ago)

re favre: because nfl producers have decided we have to see his face one million times every game he plays in, even if he is not on the field or doing anything?

kicker conspiracy (s. suisham ha ha) (daria-g), Tuesday, 29 December 2009 05:10 (fifteen years ago)

That might have something to do with it.

ice cr?m, Tuesday, 29 December 2009 05:28 (fifteen years ago)

OK after seeing the site j0hn linked I gave them $20 from a backup credit card, also. I would feel all altruistic now but a) I gave this money mostly out of hate for Brett Favre, and b) I will not lie, I have made fun of Jay Cutler for having diabetes before. When the Packers play the Bears things happen.

This game was def worth $20 to watch and $20 for the Vikings to lose, though.

a few things

1. <3 u all v much

2. i think next year, we as a board should donate $20 to diabetes research in the name of any qb that beats brett favre the jets

3. stupid question maybe but: why can't announcers stay warm in cold games? do they have to have the window of the booth open to hear the ref make penalty calls? i feel like some other process could be derived so that they can stay warm. it looks like the three of them were standing around ice fishing tonight.

4. amazing game, that throw to sidney was O_O. i really like the vikings but couldn't really be mad at that whole thing

stupid fruity crazy jag (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 29 December 2009 07:45 (fifteen years ago)

Curious about how much Brunelol we're gonna see in the Panthers game now that the Saints have clinched homefield.

yea the other thing is having to stand the whole time. i was happy for al michaels that theyve finally let him sit down. in the past when he was with madden, either he was standing on a stack of phone books or madden was in a trench cuz those guys are nowhere close to the same height

johnny crunch, Tuesday, 29 December 2009 14:16 (fifteen years ago)

does it bother anyone else that bermans #1 pick this season is a restaurant and not a football team

max, Tuesday, 29 December 2009 14:49 (fifteen years ago)

i dont think applebees has much of a chance of winning the superbowl tbh

max, Tuesday, 29 December 2009 14:50 (fifteen years ago)

well he usually picks the bills so comparatively applebees winning the sb is more plausible imo

johnny crunch, Tuesday, 29 December 2009 14:57 (fifteen years ago)

yeah but to be fair to the bills, they are technically a professional football team in the national football league, whereas applebees is a franchise restaurant, even if its wings may go "all. the. way."

max, Tuesday, 29 December 2009 14:58 (fifteen years ago)

maybe the bills should consider becoming a franchise restaurant

i always think abt this - like give these guys a window pane and let them take off their coats

ice cr?m, Tuesday, 29 December 2009 15:20 (fifteen years ago)

see I always thought that when the camera went back to showing the game that the announcers would take off their coats, turn the heat on in the booth and take a seat
