Indy at Bills- I think after last weeks debacle the Colts will somehow win this one. No matter what they do from here out, laying down against the Jets in such an obvious way is going to haunt. If they get bounced out of the playoffs it will be doubly bad. If say they beat Buffalo and win it all, the story will still be how they threw away that game. Screwy.Jville at Clev- I want to take the Browns, but I think the Jags will win this one. Jags looked like they were playoff bound a month ago.NO at Carolina- I'm going to take the Panthers, who knows how this one will play out.Bears at Detroit- I figure the Bears should win this one, whether they will or not is to be seen.NE at Houston- NE isn't going to take the week off, they will win, but the Texans will give them a game.Steelers at Dolphins- I'll take the Steelers. Miami has been off a bit in the last couple of weeks and the NFL really would like the Steelers to be in the playoffs.Giants at Minn- The Giants have pretty much given up, but I have a feeling Favre and Petersen won't be playing much. I'll take the Giants in an upset.Niners at Rams- Niners will win and finish at .500.ATL at Bucs- Falcons haven't been much on the road, but I think they will get this one.Philly at Dallas- I'm going with Philly and asking for the most hilarious way to beat the Cowboys.GB at Arizona- How does this work out? Can these teams again play the next week? Possibly. I'm going to take the Cardinals, not for any good reason as Green Bay's defense has gotten some injuries.KC at Denver- Broncos should win, but they are 2-7 since their hot start. KC doesn't appear to be particularly good at anything.Bmore at Oakland- I wonder what the over/under is on penalty yardage? We could have a new record this weekend in this game. B-more is only 2-5 on the road, so I have some doubts on them but the Raiders have Solei Moon Frye at QB. I'm taking the Ravens but I don't feel strong on it.Wash at SD- I figure even though the playoffs are coming up Norv would like to stick it to Snyder, so he will play Rivers all game and they will win stating we wanted to stay fresh.Titans at Seattle- I'll take the titans even though they are really banged up. Seattle has been getting clobbered of late.Cinci at Jets- Probably a decent game. I'd figure the Jets, but I've got a feeling the Bengals will play it out for real.

"I don't think it's gutsy," McDaniels said. "I don't know about Eddie's status yet. But like I said what's important is we're fielding the team we think gives us the best opportunity to win. And the guys that are going to play hard and do what we asked them to do and fight through adversity and be committed to one another, that's the group."
on the bright side, at least the team already sucks. now it will be sucky without actual talent.

― kicker conspiracy (s. suisham ha ha) (daria-g), Sunday, 3 January 2010 20:10 (fifteen years ago)
poor schef ;_;
i don't hate eli and there is no excuse for encouraging brett favre and jared allen the way the giants are today
― horseshoe, Sunday, 3 January 2010 20:11 (fifteen years ago)
Man if it weren't for the Giants and the Colts, I feel we would be spending a lot of time talking about how the Saints do not give a fuck in this game.
― C-L, Sunday, 3 January 2010 20:11 (fifteen years ago)
i dont hate eli or want him to fail but 41-0 is pretty funny no matter what team it is
― doomed... to fart (cankles), Sunday, 3 January 2010 20:12 (fifteen years ago)
Eli is def one of my 5 favorite QBs in the league, and the Giants are the only team in the NFC East I do not mind having to watch all the time.
xp but yeah 41-0 is what it is.

Pat White is getting backboarded, Jesus.

― Johnny Fever, Sunday, 3 January 2010 20:15 (fifteen years ago)
I hate the Vikings with the fury of a thousand burning suns, but I'm not even mad at them for this, really. It's not their fault the Giants don't really feel like winter is a time for football.

8 catches, 86 yards for mini-welker so far
ugh, pat white. i think i've seen this kind of situation about ten times just this season. he was moving his arms as they carted him off..
― kicker conspiracy (s. suisham ha ha) (daria-g), Sunday, 3 January 2010 20:18 (fifteen years ago)
Yeah, it didn't look like a spine issue, just a massive lights-out concussion.
― C-L, Sunday, 3 January 2010 20:18 (fifteen years ago)
Totally clean play by Ike Taylor -- he was going for White's midsection but White stumbled a couple of steps before the hit and was already going down when the hit happened.

Ronnie Brown goes FA after the season, though, right? They should pay him whatever he wants to stay in Miami.

My Bears fan friend was saying yesterday Cutler needed to throw 4 TDs and 0 INTs to finish with more TDs than picks, and I was like, "Pfft, not gonna happen." But so far Cutler is 4 TDs, 0 INTs!

― C-L, Sunday, 3 January 2010 21:27 (fifteen years ago)
1000 touchdowns? I guess I've never done the math on a whole NFL season before, but I wouldn't have guessed there would be quite that many.

― C-L, Sunday, 3 January 2010 21:29 (fifteen years ago)
It's actually more, since the RedZone channel only shows the Sunday 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm games. If you count MNF and SNF and Thursdays and Saturdays it might be like 1100.

Aww, I was trying to figure out a way that the Packers could play a 3-6 vs the Vikings next week, but apparently it will either be #3 Cards vs. #6 Packers if the Cards win today or #4 Cards vs. #5 Packers if the Packers win today. Makes the pathway to Final Blood a lil' trickier, and almost certainly would force it to be the NFC Championship, which I have mentioned, would kill me.
― C-L, Sunday, 3 January 2010 21:45 (fifteen years ago)

Balt-Oak and KC-Denver seem to be pretty engaging, I dunno, maybe there's a movie somewhere. Could you run a swinging gate play again before you go, though?
― C-L, Sunday, 3 January 2010 22:38 (fifteen years ago)
Matt Leinart: intercepted again. I have dreams that are basically just this entire GB-Arizona game.
― C-L, Sunday, 3 January 2010 22:39 (fifteen years ago)
i don't know how i feel about running another swinging gate play. everybody was laughing at me last time and stuff, and i didn't want to throw the guy who drew it up under the bus.. so i was just like sorry guys, my bad.
i'm starting to realize there is a bit of a disconnect between what should happen when i call a play, and what actually happens when the guys run it on the field? nfl is so cool that way! you never know what will happen. i figured if brett favre can have fun and be like a big kid out there, i could use that as inspiration in the booth, so i'm thinking that fumblerooski play might be fun to try out. texting hunter the punter right now. (there's a punter in that play right? idk?)
― kicker conspiracy (s. suisham ha ha) (daria-g), Sunday, 3 January 2010 22:46 (fifteen years ago)
I think running fumblerooski out of punt formation will only make it more of a surprise play, so I am in favor of this.

Chris Johnson just got to 2000 yds and a whole lot more on a TD, but it got called back for holding. That sucks.
― C-L, Sunday, 3 January 2010 23:38 (fifteen years ago)
Ok, he got it back. But if he had gotten credit for the long TD he would have been like 50 yds away from getting to Eric Dickerson.

JaBustus Russell is pathetic. The guy might as well have been waving the freaking ball over his head on that last fumble.

it is beautiful to behold
2008 Bears 9-7 out of the playoffs2009 Bears 7-9 out of the playoffs
2008 Broncos 8-8 out of the playoffs2009 Broncos 8-8 out of the playoffs
I guess you can say the whole Cutler trade didn't really make much difference either way. That being said, the Bears losing Urlacher in the 1st game and having no running attack all year, they did about as well as expected. Cutler could have made a couple of less mistakes against Atlanta and the Niners or caught a break against Philly, they might have won a couple more games. That being said, Cutler got pounded in quite a few games, as the Bear offensive line was pretty bad all around. The passing attack was really the only reliable offensive weapon the Bears had. The Bear defense also had problems at times on 3rd down getting clubs off the field and they didn't generate the turnovers which have been a big part of their game.

The Browns offensive box scores look like a high school team. I got to hand it to Cleveland, they just realized the best way to limit mistakes was just by not passing the ball. They have won like 3 games by only passing the ball a dozen times and just running the rock every play (like many high school teams).

The only thing that would make this game watchable right now is Mike Tirico and his disgust with poorly playing teams. tho tbh i am probably looking forward to gb-zona the most
so peter king posted the all-pro team that he sent to the AP today and i gotta say that him picking vincent jackson over andre johnson— and saying that he's more consistent!— is one of the most asinine things i've seen written about the nfl this year
― Queef Latina (J0rdan S.), Monday, 4 January 2010 20:25 (fifteen years ago)
and i really <3 peter king! (at least his reporting, but it usually informs his opinions pretty well)
peter king and i have been on a streak recently where i disagree with him vehemently on just about everything. it's weird.

Speaking as a Chargers fan, I totally agree. Andre Johnson > Vincent Jackson.
But I would rather have Jackson on my team (or Randy Moss, or Reggie Wayne, or...) than Wes Welker! Welker feasts on the space Moss creates. Andre Johnson is more than capable of doing the over the middle short passing game stuff that Welker handles. Not that I don't like Welker, of course.

rip wes welker
"he feasted on space"

I don't think writers should be allowed to have ties on an all-pro team.

lol @ shep on fox just now, irate about the JETS ending up in the playoffs because indy and cincy didn't bother to show up

cavuto on fox wants to know why jim zorn lost his job b/c of screwing up, but janet napolitano keeps hers?
i have to say, i never thought of the redskins situation that way
― kicker conspiracy (s. suisham ha ha) (daria-g), Monday, 4 January 2010 21:01 (fifteen years ago)
heckuva job, zornie
― mookieproof, Monday, 4 January 2010 21:03 (fifteen years ago)
cavuto inadvertently negating his own argument by saying a few minutes later that it wasn't zorn's fault the redskins were 4-12?

"Who's been wrong more than Charley Casserly since he left the Redskins? His percentage is like a meteorologist," Belichick said.
"He has no relationship to this team. I'd say less than zero. Based on what? He's never at a practice, never at a game," Belichick said before getting into a discussion of sports media practices in general. "At least he put his name on it which is more than a lot of guys. But, like he usually is, he was 100 percent wrong."

Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles quietly passed on a chance for a huge NFL record Sunday. After piling up 259 rushing yards, a Chiefs franchise record, Charles could have threatened Adrian Peterson's NFL record of 296.
Instead, he asked his coach Todd Haley to take him out and put backup rookie Javarris Williams.
"I didn't want to do it like that," said Charles, of trying to set the record late in a blowout win. "I'll get it some other time."

Congrats! I won three individual weeks this year, but still came in fourth place.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 6 January 2010 03:37 (fifteen years ago)
Only won one individual week, #13. I was hoping for not winning any individual weeks but still winning the season in the tortoise/hare stylee.
