iatee, Monday, 11 January 2010 19:15 (fifteen years ago)

i'm kinda feeling the cards next week too, but i think that's based entirely on kurt warner looking unstoppable against green bay. whether or not the D can stop drew brees and co. enough to allow them to come out on top is another story.

colts will take baltimore pretty easily, i think.

i don't know who to root for in the battle of the hat and the waffle. i think minnesota will win.

jets don't have much of a chance unless SD totally self-destructs, which is highly unlikely.

A™ machine (sic) (omar little), Monday, 11 January 2010 19:17 (fifteen years ago)

saints (homer), vikes, chargers...

the indy game feels more like a coin toss to me than it probably is. I'll say colts, but wouldn't be a bit surprised to wind up being a bit surprised.

2-2 wild card

3-1 wild card because Rodgers overthrew Jennings in overtime

real bears playing hockey (polyphonic), Monday, 11 January 2010 19:19 (fifteen years ago)

i wish the packers would've made it through, i kinda dislike all of these teams. i guess i couldn't begrudge new orleans winning something finally.

pretty sure about new orleans, indy and dallas winning their games. san diego should win but i am haunted by this terrifying and disturbing vision of green and white in the superbowl :(

aarrissi-a-roni, Monday, 11 January 2010 19:23 (fifteen years ago)

Colts
Cowboys
Chargers

Cards/Saints is the toss-up game for me a) because I'd be fine with either team winning and b) both defenses seem weakened at this point and it's essentially a battle of offenses.

2-2 in wild card picks.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 11 January 2010 19:24 (fifteen years ago)

Revis v. Jackson is going to be very interesting considering Jackson's height and jumping ability. I'm expecting a big game from Gates and Floyd, and maybe Sproles.

I kind of like all the players on Dallas (esp. Damarcus ware, who is a destroyer) except their retarded QB, who is the Bush II administration's lasting legacy -- every tom nitwit and dullard thought they had a chance to do something great in this world besides suck up oxygen. I'm even OK w/ Jerry jones because I feel sorry for him having a tiny dick.

bnw, Monday, 11 January 2010 22:16 (fifteen years ago)

wow, the Cardinals all of a sudden are a hot pick (not undeservedly).

i'm kinda feeling the cards next week too, but i think that's based entirely on kurt warner looking unstoppable against green bay. whether or not the D can stop drew brees and co. enough to allow them to come out on top is another story.

Some ESPN analysts made the point that the Packers coverage against the Cardinals was soft. That, combined with the fact that Warner is a master at playing against the rush, made him look unstoppable. OTOH, that all admits that Warner is very -- very -- good, even at this stage of his career, so maybe the Cards after all.

Daniel, Esq., Monday, 11 January 2010 22:22 (fifteen years ago)

I just think the Saints haven't looked good in a long time. But the Cards are also a team that can look very good one week and not so good the next week, so who knows.

real bears playing hockey (polyphonic), Monday, 11 January 2010 22:26 (fifteen years ago)

I don't know much about betting options, betting lines, and so forth, but I've got to think the best bet on this game is that the two teams will exceed the "over," whatever it is.

richie aprile (rockapads), Friday, 15 January 2010 00:30 (fifteen years ago)

i bitched about this already, but since bill simmons wrote today that you can beat the chargers by erasing vincent jackson, i would like to say that vincent jackson is the most overrated player in the nfl.

J0rdan S., Friday, 15 January 2010 20:37 (fifteen years ago)

some recent games in which vincent jackson has been "erased"

Nov 15 PHI (1 reception, 10 yds) W 31-23
Nov 22 @ DEN (4 receptions, 56 yds) W 32-3
Nov 29 KAN (2 receptions, 27 yds) W 43-14
Dec 6 @ CLE (2 receptions, 54 yds) W 30-23

A™ machine (sic) (omar little), Friday, 15 January 2010 20:43 (fifteen years ago)

as a v. jackson fantasy owner i can personally attest that there a lot of dudes on the chargers who can catch stuff and score.

call all destroyer, Friday, 15 January 2010 20:44 (fifteen years ago)

Nov 15 PHI (1 reception, 10 yds) W 31-23

Nov 29 KAN (2 receptions, 27 yds) W 43-14
Dec 6 @ CLE (2 receptions, 54 yds) W 30-23

yeah i was thinking of these games in particular. it's funny-- maybe not funny, but you know-- how owning a player in fantasy can hone your opinions on that player to an incredibly fine point. i feel like the world's #1 scholar on vincent jackson. anyway i hope the jets and the cowboys lose.

J0rdan S., Friday, 15 January 2010 20:46 (fifteen years ago)

Saints re-signed Deuce to come through the tunnel with the team and get the crowd fired up and, uh, be #4 or 5 on the depth chart I guess.

Brees pretending that going to New Orleans was a calling for him is hilarious. Only reason he isn't a Dolphin is because they didn't offer as much money. Reminds me of when God told Reggie White to sign with the Packers.

ice cr?m, Sunday, 17 January 2010 00:17 (fifteen years ago)

Only reason he isn't a Dolphin is because they didn't offer as much money.

To expose how NBC-executive-level stupid our management was, we passed on Brees in favor of Daunte Caulpepper (ph), who was, at one time, a good quarterback but everyone now knows he couldn't come back from the inju . . . zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Bottom Line: We could have signed Brees, and chose not to.

C-L, Sunday, 17 January 2010 00:21 (fifteen years ago)

True! And TBF, I don't think Brees would be the quarterback he is today if he signed with Miami.

ice cr?m, Sunday, 17 January 2010 04:33 (fifteen years ago)

Joe Flacco did OK this year. The Ravens wide outs, Derrick Mason included, are not exactly a great hands team. I don't think Flacco has played ot a point where you start looking for someone else. I think they can work with Flacco but they need to get some speed at wide out and work in a short passing game better than they do.

The problem is that clubs with a quick strike passing attack like the Colts, Saints, Cards, Packers, Chargers, etc are at such an advantage these days. Today's game went exactly how the Colts would want against a club like the Ravens by getting up two scores that just allows Indy to unleash the hounds on defense.

earlnash, Sunday, 17 January 2010 04:36 (fifteen years ago)

romo & jessica simpson broke up a while ago, like during preseason?

there was a lolredskins moment when that happened b/c someone started a rumor that she was dating skins backup QB brennan. asked about this by a reporter, brennan was convinced to say "my life coach chris cooley has advised me to neither confirm or deny this". now u can buy 'chris cooley is my life coach' tshirts if so inclined.

''To be honest with you, I said that because I thought it was hilarious that players have life coaches,'' Cooley said Thursday. ''For example. Tony Dungy is Michael Vick's life coach, and that's been big on the news. I obviously should not be a life coach for any player. I've done great in my life. I have a little bit of an abstract approach to the way I do everything, and a lot of times that doesn't work for other guys. But it's worked for me.''

My hectic work week caught up with me today, as I saw the kickoff of the first game and woke up a bit into the first quarter in the San Diego/Jets game. Catching up with everything on the thread, this line was pretty funny and definitely fits into our Brad Childress looks like a guy with secrets talks from earlier this year.

"Wade Phillips is like the kindly, doddering old grandpa who doesn't see the harm in letting the children go see what's inside Brad Childress's windowless van."

I had to run up to the office for a few minutes this morning and in a radio interview, I am convinced Brad Childress has a voice of a guy who has some secrets.

Jets offense looked pretty outmatched early on in this game and the Chargers were moving the ball with ease, but San Diego's offense has gone into the fetal position.

Came close to having the top 4 ranked teams in the final 4. By odds, one of them wouldn't make the cut.

Indy/ Saints- killer matchup tons of points
Indy/ Vikings- Hall of Fame QB matchup, potential hilarity for Favre embarressment
Jets/ Saints- unlikely as hell matchup, Saints world champs?
Jets/ Vikings- holy weird matchup downside Favre gets to walk off crying

wiki: Nate once again missed crucial playoff field goals costing his team the game. With 3 big misses we figure we will soon seen Nate on a Canadian Football Team.
Personal Life

In January 2008, Kaeding began writing weekly movie reviews for [1]CorridorBUZZ, a daily arts & entertainment web site serving the Iowa City/Cedar Rapids, Iowa corridor.

Nate and his wife, Samantha, have two sons, Jackchoker (born on May 7th, 2008)[3] and Wyattchoker (born on August 17th, 2009)[4].

After the Chargers' January 17th, 2010 postseason loss to the New York Jets, Kaeding attempted suicide in the locker room by hanging, but missed trying to kick the chair from under himself.

i don't even know what to think.

we are playing well. that's all i really focus on now, just having fun watching them win.

plus i think we have a lot of cool, genuine bros on the team like shiancoe, pat williams, peterson, chad greenway, ben leber, sidney rice, etc. that are super likeable IMO. (though i am biased)

jared allen even is sort of the redneck ochocinco basically, ridiculous but pretty funny overall

yeah it's cool. the vikings are weird anyway, it's not like i expect ppl not from MN to care about us, or want to join our little weird world of neurosis and failure and shit...we're not like the cowboys or packers where you're "supposed" to like respect us as an "institution" or some shit.

i was born into this, i don't know if i'd tell someone to choose being a vikings fan.

if they leave cuz of the stadium i will probably disavow football totally.

Na'vi Girls (Need Love Too) (M@tt He1ges0n), Tuesday, 19 January 2010 18:21 (fifteen years ago)

I am a Packer fan, so the Vikings were always the enemy, but since I grew up in Southern California and adopted the Packers essentially on a whim when I was like 13, they were never really my least favorite team until this year. Raiders fans were way more abundant, and enough of them (though not all of them) are violent assholes that the Vikings were always just #2. But this year, the Raiders are kind of pitiful, plus I live on the other side of the country now, away from the Commitment to Excellence, and plus Favre. But yeah, I've never wanted an athlete to fail more in my life. The fact that it hasn't happened is pretty horrible, tbh.
