ILNFL™ 2010 Fantasy Football League: Now 100% Jamarcus-free!!!

Yeah, I know it's only the 8th of June, and setting up a league three months before kickoff indicates some symptom of addiction or whatever, but here it is! ILNFL™ 2010! I left the settings in their Yahoo defaults for the most part. Reduced waivers time from 2 days to 1 day, changed QB passing tds from 4 to 6 points, added one more player to the bench than we had last year. Other than that, it's pretty basic and non-fucked-with. It's set at 10 teams right now, but I'll be honest...I wouldn't complain if we actually had just 8 people sign up. Better quality draft, better quality season. Think it over or jump on board. It's been set up.

i am in. 8 is too few teams imo. reminds of the small rosters we had 2(?) years ago, where everyone had blue chip players on the bench. 10 is prob the sweet spot. 12 is better than 8.

I would move to a 2nd small league rather than be in a huge league. Small leagues = good test of bench management ability.

I guess those are sorta two different types of 'difficult' but the first type is (ime) more fun cause you get an awesome team

it doesn't hardly matter, cause your opponent has a relatively better team too. you have to look at the matchups just as much and make the best decision - you're more likely to be picking up points on gameday, but so's the other side

This is weird. We were scrapping just to get 12 people last year, and now there's almost enough to start two leagues (in JUNE).

same reason Polyphonic says; with an 8 man league, everybody has a great starting lineup and a decent backup. With a 15 man league, you have to take some calculated risks. I hate watching one guy sew up the whole season with a lucky draft.

That's what happens in a big league! I like small leagues, where everybody's got talent, there's more talent available throughout the season, and everyone has to manage it properly all season long.

Obviously if there's this much interest this year (though I'm not convinced that there really is), what we need is an 8 and a 12+, and everybody can be in the type of league they prefer.

I say, the more the merrier. Would like all the ILNFL regs to have their own team to increase acrimony during the season.

The current league is at 12 now, but I'd love to take it back to 10 (or ideally, even 8). If the objective of the second league is to be huge, I'll join it too if necessary (I'm sure other people would too). Just need to know who wants to do what.

Combination of work stress, zero fun in the baseball fantasy leagues and upcoming travel is kind of pushing me to drop out of both of these. Since I was one of the loud voices for a small league, it might make sense to recondense to one league...? Sorry about flaking out!

return yard points are a norm on ilnfl, and have been for 2 or 3 seasons. they're not out of hand anymore like they were the first year, though. tbh i don't remember why there's no can't cuts or negative DEF points...perhaps i was feeling charitable that day.

return yards are probably good for a large league. WRs get really thin otherwise.

Just meant that you don't have a clear #1 WR -- Colston is #1 Saints receiver but Brees likes to spread it around, and Ochocinco may be great or may be underwhelming. Nothing as safe as the Williams pick (btw, when did you pick? did you take Manning in the first round?)

I took Manning with the #2 pick in the first round, sacrificing my chance at Adrian Peterson. But I wanted him, and I knew I wasn't going to get him at #15.

Cribbs is my #1 wr, btw. We're including return yardage, and he's a beast in that category. But he's ALSO turning into a really legit receiver if the pre-season means anything.

I think Fever and I are on the same wavelength here -- maybe the top half dozen WRs from scrimmage have the value of Joe Schmoe WR who is also a return guy.

Yeah, but legit regular return guys are rare and prone to severe injury and most of them aren't joe schmos, they're wes welkers and joshua cribbs and devin hesters.

Johnnie Lee Higgins put up insane numbers for me 2 seasons ago, week in/week out. (I didn't play last year.) Much more valuable than even my #1 drafted WR. Who remembers that 51-point David Harris game?

I remember it. MikeJonze beat the snot out of me that week David Harris tacked every player on the field at least twice.

There are some corners and safetys and ends who get a fair amount of tackles/forced fumbles/interceptions, but linebackers are the most reliable choice.

It's a risk-reward game -- LBs rack up more tackles and sacks, but a cornerback can either come up with a big zero, or they might get INTs and pick-sixes.

RE: Josh Cribbs...you may think he's going to be a fantasy monster b/c of the points for return yardage and the fact that he's going to be more integrated into the passing game. But from what I've seen, in cases where explosive return men win a spot in the offensive rotation (and subsequently a pay raise), it usually results in two things: 1) they don't manage to make the transition that successfully b/c of the learning curve, and 2) they see their role in the return game dwindle or completely disappear altogether since coaches & management don't want to risk injury to a player that they have a lot of money tied up in. See Devin Hester.

altho cribbs was basically a starter on O last season already. he's definitely a bit of a gamble fantasy-wise for those reasons, but what else have the browns got if they don't keep putting him in at wr and kick returns? he got all their points last year.

what happened on the waiver wire this morning? rex ryan express had multiple pickups processed before my first free agent pickup went through, despite the fact that the player i was shooting for was the 2nd claim to go through for him.

Are you sure you pressed the button twice to confirm your drop/add? I mean, you know what you're doing, I know, but I've been fucked that way before by forgetting to take the process all the way to fruition. Otherwise, I don't know what to do. Do you take it up with Yahoo or do I?

no, i definitely did not pull a calvin johnson. i followed through all the way. i had five different acquisitions lined up in order of priority. brandon jackson was my #1. my second choice (brandon tate) went through, but it looks like it was after rex ryan express already made two transactions. that doesn't seem right.

Hmm, the only thing I can think is to not pay attention to the times that are shown that correlate with the waiver pickups. There's probably a Yahoo supercomputer somewhere that sorts it all and then drops players into peoples rosters in lumps instead of neat and orderly. Like, it may LOOK like rrx got all his waiver picks before you got your first, but it probably just looks that way in the list.

on the subject of waivers, after the waiver deadline do undrafted (non/dropped) players still need to go through waivers to be added or are they free agents and can get picked up on a first come first serve basis? I ask because I did a drop/add of meachem for lloyd this morning and it immediately went through before my waivers started

There's a free agency period every week for players who aren't already on rosters or who haven't been dropped into waivers. The "official" waiver period lasts from kickoff on Sunday to Wednesday morning...after that everyone's up for grabs until kickoff the next Sunday (UNLESS a player has been dropped by someone to get a different player, or just dropped altogether...then they have their own waiver period).

looks like yahoo also was experiencing some kind of problem in processing waivers this week. there's a message from them at the top of our league page apologizing for the delay. perhaps that's why jbn was able to pick up lloyd before all the other waiver claims went through.

i don't think it actually affected the order we each got our players, but still...WTF? why can't yahoo show all the transactions in the order they take effect?

everyone else's claims didn't show up for over two hours. that's jacked.

When I checked the available players this morning the players that had waiver claims on them, like knowshon moreno and darren mcfadden, were unavailable to select as free agents.

If I had gotten preferential treatment I would have selected Knowshon Moreno and Darren McFadden instead of my wacky waivers of Hightower and Tolbert
the problem, i guess, is that yahoo doesn't list the waiver selections before the free agent selections

guys, in the big league we discovered that Yahoo sets up the waivers so that the first person gets ALL their picks and then it moves on to the next player. You may be having a similar issue? Or not, I'm not clear what's happening with you.

Yeah, like jbn said, I was up early this morning too and I could already see which players had been claimed off waivers even though I didn't know who they'd gone to. All I knew is that I couldn't claim them myself, but could claim any player that had gone directly into free agency.

As for the method Yahoo uses for ordering waivers processing, I don't know. I had though it went through first choices down the list, then second choices down the list, and so on. But if it gives the first person ALL their picks before moving on, that's kind of crappy.

I get what you guys are saying and it makes sense. But I'm saying...why the hell does Yahoo do that? If it's already reflecting which players are not available to claim b/c waiver claims have been placed on them at that hour in the morning, then why doesn't it just show them in the list of transactions and have them placed on those managers' teams at that point. it's just dumb is all i'm saying. do not like.
