Jacksonville @ Buffalo → BILLS. Jacksonville had an impressive win in week 4, so now they're due for a loss. Lord knows Buffalo is due for a squeaker of a win.
Tampa Bay @ Cincinnati → BUCS. Don't ask me why I'm picking Tampa on the road. I don't know.
Atlanta @ Cleveland → FALCONS. Cleveland got a not-so-impressive win, sure, but Atlanta is surging.
St. Louis @ Detroit → RAMS. I like what those goats are doing right now.
Kansas City @ Indianapolis → CHIEFS. I feel like their streak probably ends here, but I'm pulling for them anyway.
Green Bay @ Washington → PACKERS. It will be closer in week 5 than it would've been in week 1 or 2.
Chicago @ Carolina → BEARS. Cutler plays, they win by a field goal.
Denver @ Baltimore → RAVENS. Flacco seems to be awake now.
New York Giants @ Houston → TEXANS. I feel like this game already happened, didn't it?
New Orleans @ Arizona → SAINTS. New Orleans is on the decline, but they'd have to step on it to catch up with Arizona's decline.
Tennessee @ Dallas → COWBOYS. I don't want to make that pick, but it's probably what's going to happen.
San Diego @ Oakland → CHARGERS. This game will be a bowl of shit.
Philadelphia @ San Francisco → 49ERS. I think Kolb will start, and I think San Francisco will finally exploit somebody's weaknesses.
Minnesota @ New York Jets → JETS. I probably won't be watching this game.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 5 October 2010 03:35 (fourteen years ago)

you don't understand about the Bills. please believe me when i tell you we can't beat anyone

horseshoe, Tuesday, 5 October 2010 03:36 (fourteen years ago)

there is no way that the bills are going to beat jacksonville this week

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 5 October 2010 03:41 (fourteen years ago)

the only way the bills will win a game this year is if they get a team in december that is far out of the playoff race and has nothing to play for and just gives up because it's so cold

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 5 October 2010 03:42 (fourteen years ago)

for instance, the bills play the browns (lol) (lol one more time) at home on december 12th. they could prob win that game.

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 5 October 2010 03:43 (fourteen years ago)

they have chicago at home in week 9 as well, maybe jay cutler will unload 4 INTs

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 5 October 2010 03:44 (fourteen years ago)

The Bills won't so much win that game as Jacksonville will lose it. I'm not putting a lot of confidence points on it or anything, but it's just a hunch.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 5 October 2010 03:50 (fourteen years ago)

8-6 this week, 36-26 on the season

Jacksonville @ Buffalo → JX
Tampa Bay @ Cincinnati → CN
Atlanta @ Cleveland → ATL
St. Louis @ Detroit → DET DO U C ;_;
Kansas City @ Indianapolis → IND
Green Bay @ Washington → PACKERS. It will be closer in week 5 than it would've been in week 1 or 2.
Chicago @ Carolina → BEARS. no cutler, still bears.
Denver @ Baltimore → RAVENS. Flacco seems to be awake now.
New York Giants @ Houston → TEXANS. I see nyg as all D no offense
New Orleans @ Arizona → SAINTS.
Tennessee @ Dallas → TN
San Diego @ Oakland → CHARGERS. This game will be a bowl of shit.
Philadelphia @ San Francisco → 49ERS, in an empty guess.
Minnesota @ New York Jets → JETS. I probably won't be watching this game.

btw i'm becoming brett farve's no. 1 fan for this week and this week only.

Daniel, Esq., Tuesday, 5 October 2010 03:56 (fourteen years ago)

Jacksonville @ Buffalo → Jags
Tampa Bay @ Cincinnati → Bengals?
Atlanta @ Cleveland → Falcons.
St. Louis @ Detroit → Rams
Kansas City @ Indianapolis → Colts
Green Bay @ Washington → Packers
Chicago @ Carolina → Bears
Denver @ Baltimore → Ravens
New York Giants @ Houston → Giants
New Orleans @ Arizona → Saints
Tennessee @ Dallas → Titans
San Diego @ Oakland → Raiders. Why bc stop asking me. Philadelphia @ San Francisco → Eagles?
Minnesota @ New York Jets → Jets.

Jay Glazer is saying Patriots are about to send Randy Moss to Vikings.

C-L, Wednesday, 6 October 2010 00:04 (fourteen years ago)

yeah i was just about to come post that

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 6 October 2010 00:04 (fourteen years ago)

i mean, there are no facts about a trade there, the only facts are that 2 people in NFL are speculating about stuff, which isn't actually interesting or useful information.

why doesn't mike reiss have anything on this? cmon man

powerpoint coordination specialist, chicago bears (daria-g), Wednesday, 6 October 2010 05:33 (fourteen years ago)

this is really fucking stupid and annoying. the only way i can nearly justify this is if some top talent on D is coming in the other direction and even then i don't really buy it and there's no way that's happening anyway, so it's draft picks, which after you get so many become kinda valueless. and even without that a season of randy making def coordinators gameplan and second guess is worth more than any picks they could conceivably get for him at this point.

MAX NOT FOR MOD (Roberto Spiralli), Wednesday, 6 October 2010 11:07 (fourteen years ago)

the only way this is happening is if moss is forcing the issue so enough with the "bb is evil" shit

ESPN: moss to vikings for 3d round pick.

will moss play against the jets this week?

Daniel, Esq., Wednesday, 6 October 2010 15:06 (fourteen years ago)

Pats have two picks in the first, second and third founds next year O_O

truly blunted rhyme fiend (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 6 October 2010 17:49 (fourteen years ago)

they will not pick twice in the first round, so by the time the trading's done that's gonna end up as a whole lot of 2nd and 3rds.

MAX NOT FOR MOD (Roberto Spiralli), Wednesday, 6 October 2010 18:01 (fourteen years ago)

still.

Daniel, Esq., Wednesday, 6 October 2010 18:03 (fourteen years ago)

i liked it better when they had 2 1sts, 2 2nds, 1 3rd and randall gene. sad face.

also, lol at the vikes getting ne to offer moss for a 3rd and then being all "ehhh...i guess maybe, if you throw us a 7th"

MAX NOT FOR MOD (Roberto Spiralli), Wednesday, 6 October 2010 18:07 (fourteen years ago)

i hope that the pats use oakland's pick next year to get a big time offensive prospect -- rumor has it that they're big on mark ingram, but the WR class could also potentially be really, really deep

truly blunted rhyme fiend (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 6 October 2010 19:26 (fourteen years ago)

I'd love to see Mark Ingram in a Pats uni.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 6 October 2010 19:39 (fourteen years ago)

he would be good for them -- he's like the anti-maroney in that he's a big back but he's quick and can hit holes -- as long as he can prove that he can catch out of the backfield

truly blunted rhyme fiend (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 6 October 2010 19:40 (fourteen years ago)

He can, but it's not a big part of Alabama's gameplan. And when it happens, that's usually Richardson's department. However, I have no doubt he could handle it.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 6 October 2010 19:44 (fourteen years ago)

don't get my hopes up guys the pats are going to trade down and draft a cornerback from a small school

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 6 October 2010 19:49 (fourteen years ago)

the pats' big play offense was putting the defense on the field too much and picking up the new te corps and losing randy all goes in the direction of belichick's desire for more of a ball control offense. so i could kind of believe that they would lay out for a premium back. but...they will trade that oakland pick.

MAX NOT FOR MOD (Roberto Spiralli), Wednesday, 6 October 2010 19:50 (fourteen years ago)

i feel like they absolutely have to draft a RB in the first two rounds

truly blunted rhyme fiend (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 6 October 2010 19:53 (fourteen years ago)

yeah but they desp. need a d-lineman and an olb too and i'm not sure if those aren't more pressing.

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 6 October 2010 19:54 (fourteen years ago)

If they'd design plays for Lawfirm, he could perform. I saw him level fools in the SEC on a regular basis.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 6 October 2010 19:55 (fourteen years ago)

the defensive line class is gonna be incredibly deep as well

truly blunted rhyme fiend (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 6 October 2010 19:55 (fourteen years ago)

yeah, me and everyone else in the world were sure they would draft an olb high for the last two years. belichick hates football now and his only enjoyment is in fucking with people. will prob draft a qb and nose tackle in the 1st.

MAX NOT FOR MOD (Roberto Spiralli), Wednesday, 6 October 2010 19:56 (fourteen years ago)

i love lawfirm btw and think he can play well as a starter

+believe

MAX NOT FOR MOD (Roberto Spiralli), Wednesday, 6 October 2010 20:00 (fourteen years ago)

i'm starting to buy into the theory that rb in the nfl is even more overvalued than we suspected--there's 3-5 elite players, followed by a bunch of guys who can essentially do the job well.

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 6 October 2010 20:01 (fourteen years ago)

i largely agree

truly blunted rhyme fiend (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 6 October 2010 20:09 (fourteen years ago)

most important positions in the nfl are qb, lt, de/olb

truly blunted rhyme fiend (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 6 October 2010 20:10 (fourteen years ago)

that said, it's funny in the draft how much of a fine line there is b/w a player that turns out to be completely elite and a guy that doesn't

in the 07 draft, the cardinals took OT levi brown at #5 & adrian peterson went #7

the bills took beast mode at #12 and the jets took revis at #14

truly blunted rhyme fiend (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 6 October 2010 20:12 (fourteen years ago)

that said i think ingram could be really, really good in the nfl, esp if you look at where, like, ryan matthews got drafted last year

truly blunted rhyme fiend (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 6 October 2010 20:16 (fourteen years ago)

but if the pats really need d line or olb help then they should be able to get a total stud w/ the raiders pick cuz this is really the deepest class in that area in years

truly blunted rhyme fiend (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 6 October 2010 20:16 (fourteen years ago)

re most important players, i'm not as reductionist at that - i think it is incredible how much you need everyone to do their piece right for anything to work in football, more so than any other team sport i can think of. with rbs, on the one hand, if you have a line that can open holes anybody could be a productive back, but anticipating those holes and exaggerating them with your body movements are important skills that prob get overlooked.

MAX NOT FOR MOD (Roberto Spiralli), Wednesday, 6 October 2010 20:17 (fourteen years ago)

So much is made of the yards Ingram gets after first contact, but really that guy shakes people off like dandruff.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 6 October 2010 20:17 (fourteen years ago)

lately i've been thinking that the most important attribute in a RB is quickness/acceleration. watching ronnie brown plow into the backs of his lineman or hit a wide open hole only to get crunched by a mlb immediately has had that at the forefront of my mind.

truly blunted rhyme fiend (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 6 October 2010 20:18 (fourteen years ago)

but i feel like it's a mystical size/quickness combo because little scatbacks don't really do much in the NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 6 October 2010 20:20 (fourteen years ago)

yeah i think jahvid best is an interesting test case to see if chris johnson is the new blueprint of sorts

truly blunted rhyme fiend (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 6 October 2010 20:25 (fourteen years ago)

not that you wouldn't rather have someone like peterson who is massive and fast as shit

truly blunted rhyme fiend (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 6 October 2010 20:26 (fourteen years ago)

altho i guess someone like brian westbrook was already kinda like that

jamaal charles as well

idk

truly blunted rhyme fiend (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 6 October 2010 20:27 (fourteen years ago)

yeah westbrook is interesting because he wasn't a big powerful runner--thing i'd say about him is he was such an ideal fit for what the eagles were doing.

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 6 October 2010 20:28 (fourteen years ago)

spiller would be an interesting case to me if he werent on the bills

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 6 October 2010 20:30 (fourteen years ago)

lol yes

i thought the eagles offense would actually be better w/ mccoy because he seems to have pass catching abilities but is bigger & still kinda quick but idk. they still can't run it on third and short at all.

truly blunted rhyme fiend (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 6 October 2010 20:31 (fourteen years ago)

Basically the main difference between CJ/Best and someone like Reggie Bush is that Bush is reluctant to run it up the gut and follow his blocks, whereas CJ and Best usually don't freelance until they're out in space. That is much more valuable than a guy like Bush (as a runner) who is too inconsistent to get regular carries on 1st/2nd down.

Spiller strikes me as more like Bush than CJ in that respect.

funky house skeptic (polyphonic), Wednesday, 6 October 2010 20:33 (fourteen years ago)

lol Rome just said Favre and Moss are probably going to shut Childress out of the process and draw up their own plays for the rest of the season. I kind of hate Favre at this point, but I would seriously love it if that actually happened.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 6 October 2010 20:33 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah but neither did Marino and obviously Marino is a number 1 pick guy in retrospect.

I've always found it interesting which players have to deal with "never winning a Super Bowl" as an argument. Barry Sanders (2nd greatest RB ever imo) has to deal with it all the time, but Dick Butkus doesn't. And Butkus' teams weren't even as good as Sanders'.

Peyton Hillis was such a good running back, Houston Nutt used to work him in at tight end.

Same thing with Ryan Mallett. Nutt saw a wonderful tight end in that boy.

http://tinyurl.com/hommphommp (Pleasant Plains), Thursday, 7 October 2010 03:46 (fourteen years ago)

Hillis completely beasted however many games it was he started in 2008. Ran hard, great hands to catch passes . . . it's just hard to imagine that he regressed so much after his injury that McD would only use him for like 13 carries all year and then trade him for Brady fucking Quinn. From this season, it looks like McD just has absolutely no idea how to implement a rushing game.

Peyton Hillis was such a good running back, Houston Nutt used to work him in at tight end.

nutt was looking at a darren mcfadden and felix jones in front of hillis on the chart. too ridiculous. also--

Holy hell, 6-8 last week. I don’t even wanna talk about it. Without further ado –

Jacksonville @ Buffalo : Jags in a game I won’t be watching. Bills could very well go winless this season, from the looks of it.
Tampa Bay @ Cincinnati : Bungles in a close one.
Atlanta @ Cleveland : Falcons
St. Louis @ Detroit : Lions, especially if Stafford returns.
KC @ Indianapolis : May be wishful thinking, but Chiefs, who, in case you weren’t paying attention, are the last unbeaten team in the NFL. Colts defense can’t fuck with the running game, and if there is any justice in the world, Jamaal Charles and Thomas Jones should dominate.
GB @ Washington : Donovan impressed me last week against the Iggles, going Skins on this one.
Chicago @ Carolina : Panthers get their first win of the season in a very close upset.
Denver @ Baltimore : Ravens despite a floundering Flacco.
NYG @ Houston : Texans
New Orleans @ Arizona : Saints despite an inconsistent offense and lingering Super Bowl hangover.
Tennessee @ Dallas : Cowboys have had a bye week to rest up and get their ducks in a row, but still picking Titans here.
SD @ Oakland : SD
Philadelphia @ San Francisco : Niners, especially if Kolb starts. Poor guy. Expect the Michael Vick media smoochfest to continue unabated.
Minnesota @ NYJ : Two words: Randy Moss.

St. Louis @ Detroit : Lions, especially if Stafford returns.

Stafford's just now touching a football again. He's not taking the field for a couple weeks at least.

Jacksonville @ Buffalo → Jags
Tampa Bay @ Cincinnati → Bungles, I guess, but I mean who cares
Atlanta @ Cleveland → Falcons
St. Louis @ Detroit → Lions
Kansas City @ Indianapolis → Colts
Green Bay @ Washington → Going with the Skins here, actually! Packers can't run the ball and their d is losing guys left and right.
Chicago @ Carolina → Bears
Denver @ Baltimore → Ravens
New York Giants @ Houston → Texans in a walk.
New Orleans @ Arizona → Saints, but it might be closer than you'd think.
Tennessee @ Dallas → Cowboys
San Diego @ Oakland → Chargers
Philadelphia @ San Francisco → Can't take the 9ers until they win one, basically. Eagles.
Minnesota @ New York Jets → The team that doesn't have Brett Favre will win this game.

Jacksonville @ Buffalo → JX
Tampa Bay @ Cincinnati → CN
Atlanta @ Cleveland → ATL
LAST WEEK, horrible 5-9 overall 36-26

St. Louis @ Detroit - tough game, felt a bit that the Rams might win but didn't pick them and the Lions have been improved. I'll take the Rams but won't be surpised if the Lions get off the schneid on this one.
Kansas City @ Indianapolis - Indy
Green Bay @ Washington - Redskins but this seems like one where both teams are just wrong.
Chicago @ Carolina - I'll take the Bears even without Cutler, but it feels wrong.
Denver @ Baltimore - B-more is up and down, they should win this one, but even with picking them you never know how it will turn out. I'm not a total believer.
New York Giants @ Houston - Texans
New Orleans @ Arizona - Saints
Tennessee @ Dallas - Cowboys
San Diego @ Oakland - Chargers
Philadelphia @ San Francisco - Both teams are in must win situations. I'd almost buy the Niners getting hot and winning the West at 9-7 even with the 0-4 start, as all of the rest of the teams in their division totally suck. I'll take the 49ers and be probably wrong, as Reid's time as an Eagles coach they have been written off all sorts of times and yet pull wins out their ass.
Minnesota @ New York Jets - Jets, but who really cares.

earlnash, Sunday, 10 October 2010 14:31 (fourteen years ago)

Jacksonville @ Buffalo - Jville will probably blow this one, as they can't play good more than one week in 3, but they shouldn't lose.
Tampa Bay @ Cincinnati - Cincy should bounce back, but they have lost a couple of stupid games to the Bucs over the last few years (Bruce Gradkowski- stupid roughing the passer call...made me angry).
Atlanta @ Cleveland - Falcons should win, but they will lose these games sometimes. If Cleveland had a top notch QB, they would be pretty good.

Texans defense has given up almost 400 yards of passing a game, so they got that working against them.

Todd Haley is pulling out all sorts of crazy to beat the Colts. He did an onside kick to open the game, which didn't even go 10 yards, then went for it on 4th & 2 on the Colt 10 yard like throwing the ball, when they had been running it down there throat. Colts misfired twice on long drives and only got a couple of field goals, so it is only 6-0.

kansas also went for a TD on 4th & 2 on about the ten yard line. both were good calls tbh. the onside kick was unlucky, bounced and took a weird curve that meant it didn't make ten yards. they're unlucky to be 6 behind imo but 6 behind they are.

Cincy blowing that game today pretty much is going to cost them a playoff spot. I know it is early, but this is one of those years where it is going to be a bar fight to get over the Steelers or Ravens and with the AFC South that competitive, the AFC wild card hunt is going to be f-in tough.

It's early, but Indy is 0-2 in the AFC South, so they are a bit behind the 8 ball for winning their division. Same thing kind of happened to NE last year, where they were probably one of the better clubs, but were behind in their own division losing games to the Jets and Fins, they lost out on the wild card by tie-breakers etc.

Astronaut Mike Dexter (Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved), Monday, 11 October 2010 02:00 (fourteen years ago)

I kinda think it's an awesome season of football. Lots of previously terrible teams (Raiders, Redskins, Lions esp) playing really strong games. Also terrible Cowboys is always A++ season indicator.

The post-game press conference from Singletary was difficult to watch. He wore the pain from the 0-5 start on his face and struggled to get the answers out. No longer defiant after a loss, he was truly dejected.

At one point, Singletary said the best team the 49ers have faced all year was the 49ers. Michael Irvin and Deion Sanders couldn't help cracking up on the NFL Network highlight show.

"Well, did they beat the 49ers? Because they lost to everyone else," Irvin said.

Sorry to be Debbie Downer, but I just read this interview w/ Ralph Wilson and it made me sad: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/football/nfl/10/11/bills.owner.ap/index.html?eref=sihp

Wilson took full responsibility for the team's decade-long woes, a stretch in which they've only had one winning season (a 9-7 finish in 2004) since 2000. The Bills are on their sixth coach (including Perry Fewell, who finished last season on an interim basis), and fifth general manager over that stretch.

"The blame falls on me because I made those selections," Wilson said. "And I don't want to blame somebody else. I take the blame."

And Wilson is well aware of how the fans have begun to criticize him for the team's troubles.

"Oh yeah," he said. "I know that, and I don't blame them."

Wilson, who turns 92 on Sunday, also referred to his age during the interview.

In discussing the team's turnaround, Wilson said, he "probably won't be around," when it happens.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 12 October 2010 01:57 (fourteen years ago)
