Last week, an improved 10-4 (Who would have figured on Denver & Cleveland? I should have taken the Titans at home, but with Collins it was a bit harder to go that way.)This season = 62-44
Miami at Cincinnati- Miami likes to play it low and slow, they have beaten Minn. & Green Bay and kinda got jobbed against Pittsburgh. Cincy is real schizo (with that roster no big suprise), their passing offense alternates between mind boggling yards numbers and terrible, but the running game hasn't been as dependable and Palmer seems to misfire often in the redzone with some turnovers. I'm taking Miami, but I would not be suprised if Cincy wins. I think turnovers will be the deciding point, as Miami has lost a couple giving away the ball or on some blocked kicks.Jacksonville at Dallas- Jville is pretty banged up. I'm going Cowboys as I think Kitna being around will force Garrett to slow down the offense to more of a pickup truck than high powered but finnicky sports car and actually use those gppd running backs. If the Cowboys try to throw the ball 50 times a game with Kitna, they will get smoked. Washington at Detroit- Lions don't have the wins, but they seem to be a bit improved. The only thing keeping the Redskins offense from being the laughing stock on the highlight shows last week was the fact that the Bears played EVEN worse. Washington still looked like total crap in the second half. I'm probably crazy, but lets go with the Lions at home coming off the bye. Buffalo at Kansas City- KC should win, but Buffalo put up some pretty eye-popping numbers against b-more last week. Chiefs at home though...but Buffalo will knock someone off probably sooner rather than later.Carolina at St. Louis- Wow...Rams to win. Go figure.Green Bay at New York Jets- Green Bay is pretty battered and the Jets seem to have weathered and improved as the year goes by. I'll take the Jets but I think they are due for an ugly game out of Sanchez. Denver at San Francisco- Fugly bowl...I'll take the Niners at home I guess. Denver better come out with some fire after getting lit up that bad last week. Might actually be a decent game. I still think the 49ers are better than their record and just having no real QB is their problem. Criminy the way Hill has thrown the rock in Detroit, they might have gave up on the wrong one. Money spent does make people do dumb things.Tennessee at San Diego- SD is a train wreck, but they still have talent. Titans are moving through the league like a bar bouncer. SD might win, but I think you have to go with the Titans based on rep.Seattle at Oakland- These two teams are perplexing as hell. Seattle stat wise sucks at everything yet they win. I'll take the Silver and Black, as I just never liked the Seahawks, they are just the middling team of all time in the NFL.Minnesota at New England- It doesn't matter who is playing QB for Minnesota anymore, they won't beat NE. I just don't see it happening. I think the window is closing on the Vikings as their defense is stepping down from their greatness over the past couple of years. Childress seems more like a morose writer type than an NFL head coach. Future career after January? We will see.Tampa Bay at Arizona- Kind of hard game to pick...AZ isn't the same, but they have won a couple. I guess we go TB on the road. I don't have a read on this one.
Pittsburgh at New Orleans- NO probably got a wake up call last week and they are at home. Steelers should be the favorite on what has gone down, but I am feeling Saints this time. NO gets blown out, it might be time to dust off the panic button, Well not really, the NFC is a weak kitten this year and even if they can't catch the Falcons, I think the Saints could get the wildcard as their schedule opens up quite a bit in the 2nd half.
Houston at Indianapolis- This is a big game for INdy, if they lose and go 0-3 in the division, it will be TOUGH road to make the playoffs as the AFC wild card is going to be tight tight. Bad news is the Colts skills guys are really beat up including Addai, losing Dallas Clark is prety huge, especially with Collie definitely out and Anthony Gonzales coming back from injury (and he has yet to be all that anyway). Good news for the Colts is Houston's defense is kind of beat up and they have been giving up a gazillion yards a game. I'm going Colts even banged up, as after week 1 - Houston beat Washington, Oaktown and KC by a combined 14 points and got rolled by the Giants and Dallas. I think a key player to watch is Jacob Tamme of the Colts. I saw Tamme play quite a bit for Kentucky in college and he looked pretty good. Tamme has mostly been a special teams guy for Indy, but as the other TE is more of a big road grater type, I think he will play quite a bit more.

I do. That's the way we're structured. That's the way I run it. There's no question that I have the plan and executing it to have the best players and the best coaching that we can have. I'm dumbfounded that we are 1-7."
Jones misspoke during his post-game speech. The Cowboys are actually 1-6.

Well bad news for Vikings fans is that http://images.chron.com/blogs/askacat/hatcat.JPG is probably now toast, even though he played pretty well until he got kilt today. Good news is that Mike Shanahan has decided to be a petty witch and have started some cat fight with McNabb for no good reason. Yeah McNabb hasn't played 'GREAT' but pulling him for Rex Grossman can't be construed for anything but a big FU. With that said, I would think there will be clubs lining up to say, sure we will take McNabb. Why do you even do that trade if you are going to bonk McNabb out mid season, when you are 4-4 and playing so far better than expected...that has to be some petty office gossip crap. Good luck next year Washington. I still don't get this one at all.
That was a big win for the Packers and really the NFC, who have not done very well at all against any of the good AFC clubs. I figured that Sanchez was due for a poor game.
Dallas is a train wreck. I didn't see the game, but looking at the stat line, it looks like they didn't change a thing on their usual game plan and tried to play it the same as they would if Romo was around. I think Jason Garrett is way over-rated and I really hope they give him the head coach job, as I would bet a fiver he will be a total bust.
Cincy is just out of sync. Every other week their offense shows up and it seems when they do, the defense is a sieve.
The Pats are definitely a solid club, but I think it remains to see how far they will rise. This is an odd year, I don't think the club that wins it all has to be a world beater, so it could be their year.
It also looks like there is a change of the guard happening, as there are quite a few of the clubs that have stunk for a couple of years that are on the rebound. I think most are probably benefiting from a preferable schedule, but one or two might get to that next level on prime time.
Chiefs (5-2)Raiders (4-4)Bucs (5-2)Rams (4-4)
Beyond that, Detroit and the Browns also do seem improved.

Buffalo still seems to be playing to win every week and maybe have actually found a QB, which is more than you can say for those overpaid bunch of losers in Dallas.
I thought Detroit getting Vanden Bosch to play with Suh was a pretty savvy move. The Lions have really been in most of their games and their schedule hasn't been as nearly cupcake as some of these other clubs like the Bucs.

i would be interested to see how many really quality NFL QBs have come out of, like, the second, third and fourth rounds
i feel like you have guys like brady or romo who just really fell through the cracks, otherwise i think you really have to gamble and hit on a QB in the first round
seems to me that almost all of the QBs that get drafted outside of round 1 are noticeable in that regard, in terms of talent
of course sometimes you'll end up w/ a leinart or a brady quinn, but still
― GAWKA (J0rdan S.), Monday, 1 November 2010 02:02 (fifteen years ago)

Don't forget Matt Schaub (3rd rounder).
― Matt Armstrong, Monday, 1 November 2010 04:12 (fifteen years ago)
ok sorry for hogging the thread but...
Mike Shanahan said that the reason McNabb got benched is that Rex Grossman had played under Kyle Shanahan before, and therefore was more familiar with the 2 minute drill that he likes to run.
“I felt with the time and no timeouts, (Grossman) gave us the best to win in that scenario,” Shanahan said. “Just knowing the terminology of what we’ve done, how we’ve run it, it puts a lot of pressure on a (newer) quarterback who isn’t used to that terminology.” Elaborating, Shanahan added: “You have to understand that everything is sped up when you don’t have timeouts – it has to come automatic. You have to call two plays at the line. … You have to understand you need to react and not think.”
This is an incredible explanation.
― Matt Armstrong, Monday, 1 November 2010 04:15 (fifteen years ago)
That is so much BS. McNabb has been with Washington since well before training camp. What the heck terminology does it use, is it written Klingon? Beyond the lunacy that a 10 year vet QB might not know how to call the plays on a club that he has been with for a few months, you put in a guy cold that hasn't played in a couple of seasons. If you are Don Freaking Shula and the guy is Johnny Freaking Unitas, sure...I get it, but this is Rex Grossman. Good luck with that kind of logic, hello QB controversy.
Pulling Carson Palmer won't fix the Bengals, regardless what some Cincy fans seem to think. Cincy have no backs that can catch a pass. They have zero speed on any receivers. The Bengals are not running the ball very well this year. Teams can stack up on them, as there is little fear of getting behind them. Their defense hasn't been able to get the other team off the field at times. Palmer is a bit streaky with his accuracy, but outside of the Tampa game where he did play like total crap, I don't think you can really pin a loss on him. Palmer is really playing better this year than he did last year. Cincy has also had problems with poorly timed penalties in games too.
If Cincy runs him out of town, it could be good news for some other club, as I could easily see Palmer going someplace else and then 'surpise' it all works again. Palmer is better than Warner was when they called him washed up with the Giants. Heck for that matter so is McNabb.
― earlnash, Monday, 1 November 2010 04:31 (fifteen years ago)
McNabb doesn't even know the rules of overtime, to be fair.
― macaroni rascal (polyphonic), Monday, 1 November 2010 07:13 (fifteen years ago)

― Matt Armstrong, Monday, 1 November 2010 08:00 (fifteen years ago)
they have a few good young guys -- leon hall, jermaine gresham, jordan shipley, keith rivers, ray maulalga, potentially andre smith -- but the whole palmer/ocho/benson/t.o. "nucleus" is on the steady decline, to say the least
― GAWKA (J0rdan S.), Monday, 1 November 2010 08:23 (fifteen years ago)
i wonder if they take a QB in the draft this year, let him sit for a season, then pretty much blow that whole group up (altho i doubt that T.O. will be back in the first place)
― GAWKA (J0rdan S.), Monday, 1 November 2010 08:24 (fifteen years ago)
^that is what i would do. palmer showed yesterday that he can make some real nice passes but one out of every say four attempts is just horrible, and that ratio is slowly getting worse over the season. cincy were actually cutting miami up pretty good with the run for periods but drives would come to an end on 3rd and med when palmer would have a receiver open underneath on a shallow crossing route and he would throw a high ball right at the cover behind him. i couldn't believe some of the throws he was making.

The Cowboys' ineptitude was on full display late in the first half when they had a third-and-goal at the Jaguars' 1-yard line with 15 seconds left. After Marion Barber was stoned for no gain, the Cowboys went with a similar play on fourth down. Left tackle Doug Free was blown up at the point of attack and tackle-eligible Alex Barron staggered toward the line of scrimmage, tripped near the goal line and failed to make contact with a defender.

At about 1:40 p.m. ET, Minnesota Vikings coach Brad Childress told reporters that he had given receiver Randy Moss an opportunity to spend time with his family in the New England area before re-joining the team on Wednesday. He said he did not believe Moss' bizarre postgame rant was "incendiary" and said he did not regret acquiring Moss "at the present time."
About 30 minutes later, Childress informed players in a team meeting that Moss had been waived, an admission of a mistake so colossal and embarrassing that it will forever define Childress' tenure in Minnesota.
For now, we'll put aside another bout between Childress and the truth-o-meter. To start it off, I'll say this: Moss' return to Minnesota last month was much more shocking than his quick demise. The Vikings, of all teams, should be ashamed to have made this gambit given their knowledge of Moss' history. They lost a third-round draft pick for four mostly unproductive games and are left with a fractured franchise that seems headed to Armageddon.

http://images.chron.com/blogs/askacat/hatcat.JPG has been undermining chilly and publically humiliating him at every turn, but now it's a problem
honestly, ok moss hasn't torn it up (but honestly who could in our passing game except for percy who's been the benefit of checkdowns and the space that moss creates) but they flat out showed tons of times where randy was getting double coverage.

i don't follow this ish close enough so i don't know all the ~drama~ of hatcat undermining childress. it seemed to me like the whole point of having moss out there was to suck up coverage. even if he isn't making many catches, he's still doing his job! which might get boring for him but just can't believe it was a big problem for the staff.
― goole, Monday, 1 November 2010 19:38 (fifteen years ago)

I just realized who Brad Childress reminds me of! When I worked for Domino's Pizza in the 90s, our regional supervisor was a really despicable guy named Lowery who had the need to one-up everybody, from management down to the lowliest phone answerer/order taker. About a year after I left, I found out from a friend who still worked there that he had been arrested for exposing himself at the area waterpark.
