For whatever reason we don't have a thread yet for the Super Bowl so here you go. What are everyone's thoughts on the game?

Steelers have:
A better runningback
A super clutch, avoids sacks and converts a bunch of 3rd and longs
Good run defense
Two of the dirtiest players in the NFL
Troy Polamalu's Head and Shoulders commercials
Coach who may or may not be Omar Epps

Packers have:
A decent RB who would probably be a monster in a high school game
A QB starting to break into elite status, new helmet, hates cancer patients
Great pass defense; hard to throw on Woodson/Tramon/Shields
Clay Matthews' upcoming Suave commercials
Donald Driver's 47 local TV ads
The fattest man to ever score a TD in the postseason
Belt

Personally I think (well, hope) the Packers win; it's like the opposite of the NFCCG, where the Packers were the better team, but the Bears matched well against them and had an advantage on the turf. Here I think the Steelers are probably the better team overall but the Packers match up very well against them and they should play well in a dome. Post all your Super Bowl thoughts here!

i am rooting for green bay but i am pretty certain pittsburgh are gonna win. i think sburgh's D can do the same kind of job on GB that chicago did but also score points. rodgers looked sub-par against chicago and he is going to have to turn it all the way around for them to have any hope of moving the ball because i can't see starks getting much out of this match up.

I kind of agree and kind of disagree. Harrison definitely has gotten a raw deal but he's had a lot of that coming...his famous quote about wanting to knock people out of the game but "not injure them" more or less says it all. I don't think he really knows the difference.

I really disagree with this; Pitt's D is really great vs. the run, not so much vs. the pass. Besides Polamalu their secondary is weak and if Rodgers has time I think he'll pick them apart like he did last year. Obviously Rodgers cannot have the same type of game he did last week but he's always struggled with the Bears. As far as I can tell Pitt's strategy is usually to stuff the run and force QB's to throw on most downs and make mistakes. The Pats and Saints both beat the Steelers by basically abandoning the run and throwing on every down, which is GB's game plan anyway. If you're Pittsburgh I can't imagine a worse type of offense to go up against.

Rodgers threw for 383 yards that game. The reason why they lost is because Roethisburger threw for some unreal amount as well (500+) and led the team on a ridiculous last-minute TD drive that involved all sorts of GB DPI and holding (plus an unreal TD pass similar to the 2008 SB one). The problem with the Packers last year is that experienced QB's would tear them apart. Look at their losses - Favre twice, Roethisburger, and Warner in the playoffs (their other losses were to Palmer and Freeman). They don't really have that problem anymore; Favre sucked against them this year (and really against everyone else too, so maybe it doesn't count), and not even Tom Brady really had a good game against them; nor did Eli, Matt Ryan, McNabb, or Cutler. They gave up 37 fewer points this year and their secondary is coming up huge in the playoffs.

Steelers offense was quite good in 2009 (and the game I mentioned was a career day for Big Ben); the defense is what let them down.

yes i realize this--this is why the steelers line needs to have a good game for them to win

packers front 7 should be a v. effective unit against pittsburgh and they have guys who can take down "ben"

even tho teams are about even I'd put money on packers, just feels right

thing is, it's not just a good GB pass rush getting past a weak pittsburgh O line - the opposing pass rush is going to get close to both of these QBs time and time again. roethlisberger will handle that better. and mendenhall vs GB run d is going to be more of a balancing threat than starks vs pittsburgh run d.

that's why my other key is the pitt secondary--rodgers won't have tons of time but i think he can throw on those guys unless they step it up

According to Football Outsiders Pass Defense Efficiency Ratings, these are the number 1 (Pit) and number 2 (GB) defenses against the pass.

It's not a bad secondary either. Ike Taylor's a great CB aside from the skillet hands, Clark's an underrated player, we know about Polamalu. It's not as good as GB's, but not being as good as the best secondary in the league is hardly a crime, plus their pass rush is wayyy better than the Packers.

obviously i'm rooting for the steelers, but i pretty much love everything about the packers. including the fact that their coach is from pittsburgh

important thing to remember about the pitt defense is that they really just run their stuff with minimal adjustment and variation--it's their talent against yours

one thing about the atlanta game - the packers o-line played terribly, there were at least 5 times where defenders got hands on rodgers but couldn't finish the sack because he's so elusive. i think steelers' pass rushers are more likely to close the deal.

But the stats call me a liar -- in the last 14 SBs, there have been seven with margins of 11 or more, and seven with margins of 7 or less.

I used to be a big baseball fan, but I turned away from it during/after the '94 strike. Not BECAUSE OF the strike, but because I realized during baseball's absence that it's actually a real bore.

Pretty much only care about baseball, but that's because I don't actually watch any games ever.

Sometimes the bore is kind of the nice thing about baseball. It's relaxing to sometimes put a game on TV or radio and have a snooze.

Of course, I do the same thing sometimes in football, go to sleep just after kickoff and wake up around the 4th quarter.

Some of the numbers whores make reading about baseball f-ing tedious and every year more obscure.

pretty mediocre game imo--it was "close" but there weren't really huge momentum swings and pittsburgh never put anything together that made u say "oh damn those guys mean business."

rodgers made some sick throws as usual and i'm v. happy for him and the packers but that was the worst one since indy/chicago.

definitely better than last year's, the last two Patriot wins, Indy-Bears, and Steelers-Seahawks, so really that means it's only beat by the three I mentioned, which were also some of the best SBs ever.

yea the traction on the field was ridiculous. even after all the injuries ceased, I could see Mendenhall struggling to maintain his footing, and cuts were almost nonexistent while running.

an embarassment for Jerry Jones to be sure. he and the NFL should catch heat for that, for both safety and entertainment reasons.

You want to talk about some sucky super bowls, you need to remember stuff like that Niners Bills Superbowl blood letting. That thing was done 1/2 way through the first quarter.

I'm really surprised that almost all of my friends were screaming about how awful the Black Eyed Peas halftime show was, mostly because some of them like the group.
