Houston at New Orleans - question marks on both these teams, so interesting match up. saints tho, and anything else would a legit shock
NY Giants at Philadelphia - eagles. giants so bad right now
Jacksonville at Carolina - carolina altho cam will throw a combined total of 5 TDs and Ints and the exact split will likely decide it
New England at Buffalo - NE have won this matchup 99 times in a row and the streak has to end sometime, but it just is too unlikely to really credit, especially as the bills seem to be evolving into a store brand version of the pats
Miami at Cleveland - miami win away from margaritaville in a result that shockingly seems shocking
San Francisco at Cincinnati - eternal flames
Denver at Tennessee - tits
Detroit at Minnesota - detroit i guess. i don't think MN looks quite as hopeless as ppl seem to believe, but...
Baltimore at St. Louis - ravens. i was looking forward to seeing what STL and KC came up with this year but neither has been able to keep what weapons they have on the field. at least STL have a chance of coming out of it as the season progresses
NY Jets at Oakland - oak win conceivable but unlikely
Kansas City at San Diego - bolts
Arizona at Seattle - i guess we find out for certain if seattle really is the worst team in the nfl. i say why not
Atlanta at Tampa Bay - buxxx take advantage of a downswing on the falxxx rollercoaster
Green Bay at Chicago - !BEARS!
Pittsburgh at Indianapolis - steelers
Washington at Dallas - there is too much prime time nfc east. break this annoying big market division up now, put jax and buffalo in there. fuck these teams. i hope washington wins but the lights might be too bright for rex this time

Roberto Spiralli, Friday, 23 September 2011 12:20 (fourteen years ago)

i don't know if miami will win this week. but if we don't win, we're facing an 0 -- 5 start (next two away, against chargers and jets), and the death spiral will have begun.

Are you making a prediction abt Curtis Painter or?

(i don't really have an opinion atm tbh) (boxall), Saturday, 24 September 2011 04:05 (fourteen years ago)

hey if they were willing to start him maybe i would be!

call all destroyer, Saturday, 24 September 2011 04:08 (fourteen years ago)

Painter is perhaps the worst QB, starting or backup, in the NFL. I can't type enough zeros to convey the odds against him becoming another Brady. My best advice for the Colts is to tank this season and let Manning mentor Andrew Luck. Indianapolis fans will understand.

http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-farmer-nfl-fitzpatrick-20110923,0,7700063.column

Fitzpatrick laughs at himself too. He coined the nickname "The Amish Rifle," drives a pickup truck, and might be the only quarterback who wears his wedding ring when he plays. He's married to Liza Barber, a former soccer star at Harvard, and their engagement story is a classic.

During his rookie season, Fitzpatrick bought a ring with money from a joint bank account he shared with Barber. He hid it in his car, then picked her up for a day of shopping at a St. Louis mall. They stopped by a clothing store, the clerk accidentally double-charged her, and Barber said not to worry because she'd check the account online when she got home.

"So I knew she was going to notice the amount of money that was missing," Fitzpatrick said. "So I was like, 'Oh, man.' I had to figure out from the Gap to my house how I was going to propose to her. Luckily, the ring was in the car.

"We drove by all these fancy places. I asked her if she wanted to grab some dinner and sit by the lake. It was November, and she was like 'Why would I do that? It's freezing outside!' All she wanted was McDonald's. My relationship with my wife, and knowing her, it was just the perfect setting.

"She ordered probably a 10-piece Chicken McNuggets and had sweet-and-sour sauce on her face."

13-3 last week; 22-10 overall

Houston at New Orleans - Aints, but should be damn competitive; would not be surprised to see this go the other way
NY Giants at Philadelphia - The Giants started out as a bad football team and are going to see themselves get even worse by injury; eagles and big
Jacksonville at Carolina - Carolina bandwagon is getting full but I suppose I can fit on
New England at Buffalo - should be a helluva shoot out but the pats are so ridiculously dominant offensively right now that I don't think I'm picking against them this year unless brady gets injured
Miami at Cleveland - I know so little about either of these teams. Miami because they have an animal instead of a color as their mascot.
San Francisco at Cincinnati - niners are looking horrible, Cincinnati less horrible than advertised, so the latter.
Denver at Tennessee - welp guess this will be another season where the titans pull off a few surprising wins, stampede a few obvious choices, get maimed by the big boys and finish with between 8 and 9 wins. go tits.
Detroit at Minnesota - panic time in minnesota but lions are looking playoff ready and prepared to go in strong
Baltimore at St. Louis - Ravens, for the maim
NY Jets at Oakland - Jets but it's a bad matchup for them and could go either way
Kansas City at San Diego - Even the Chargers can't fuck this up
Arizona at Seattle - Cardinals; this is my survival LOCK OF THE WEEK tm
Atlanta at Tampa Bay - Atlanta in a competitive one
Green Bay at Chicago - Packers until proven otherwise
Pittsburgh at Indianapolis - Steelers in angry fashion
Washington at Dallas - I think the skins are a better team than they're getting credit for and that dallas is even MORE beat up than advertised. Washington.

2 things have been pissing me off about the NE/Bills coverage:

i. everyone saying it is "surprising" that buffalo happen to have won 2 games is equal parts ignorant and patronizing
ii. apparently if they lose this game to the patriots - a reasonably good team it is prob safe to say - it is all a fraud and they can't possibly actually be a good team

brady plays worse if he doesn't feel under pressure. it's like he loses his focus a little, or maybe he stops trying to risk the tight spots. back in the super bowl days he used to play better the more pressure was on but now he has a definite cinderella spot. i think that's why he has been scoring so much on opening drives - the start of the game is just the right amount of tension.

-eagles force 3-and-out & get the ball back at midfield w/ 1:30
-20 yd completion to desean
-5 yd completion to avant on the sideline...avant insists on being tackled in bounds
-last timeout
-false start
-false start
-vick fumbles the snap (again), runs for a yard or so
- 4th down, no timeouts and less than 10 secs in the half brent celek literally has to throw a disoriented vick off the field so we can kick a 38 yarder as time expires

k3vin k., Sunday, 25 September 2011 18:39 (fourteen years ago)

oh btw lesean mccoy went to the locker room for some extra rest after he scored, so we didn't have him on that last drive at all

bills played well and deserved win. pats had a bit of bad luck but mostly just not good enough. you can't have your stupid days against division opponents. pass defense still has obvious problems but better 3rd defense was encouraging i guess.

Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 25 September 2011 20:34 (fourteen years ago)

fyi cris carter argued last week that Calvin Johnson wasn't a top 6 receiver.

Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 25 September 2011 20:39 (fourteen years ago)

lol waht

johnny crunch, Sunday, 25 September 2011 20:41 (fourteen years ago)

Was there a reasoning behind this or was he just like actively injecting mind-altering drugs at the time?

C-L, Sunday, 25 September 2011 20:42 (fourteen years ago)

Carter went on to say: "Calvin Johnson, he's very, very good at Madden and Tecmo Bowl or whatever they're playing now. But on film, when I watch film, and I break down the film, he's not to the point of these guys yet. That doesn't mean he can't play. He just not there yet."

Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 25 September 2011 20:42 (fourteen years ago)

i would play megatron in tecmo bowl

J0rdan S., Sunday, 25 September 2011 20:43 (fourteen years ago)

the funniest part was when he said something like "desean jackson... he can't really run routes but he's explosive so I'll give him a pass"

Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 25 September 2011 20:43 (fourteen years ago)

lol @ cutler

daria-g, Sunday, 25 September 2011 20:43 (fourteen years ago)

is that pick #2 on the day already

daria-g, Sunday, 25 September 2011 20:44 (fourteen years ago)

torrey smith has 119 yds & 2 tds so far today

J0rdan S., Sunday, 25 September 2011 20:45 (fourteen years ago)

I guess he is saying Johnson's not like a super-crisp route runner or something technique-related like that, but...the point of being a wide receiver is to catch the ball, and Calvin Johnson seems to be exceptional at catching the ball, is my thinking.

C-L, Sunday, 25 September 2011 20:45 (fourteen years ago)

Either that or Cris Carter is basically Joe Morgan.

C-L, Sunday, 25 September 2011 20:46 (fourteen years ago)

you would think carter would respect a touchdown machine like Calvin.

daria-g, Sunday, 25 September 2011 20:56 (fourteen years ago)

That play was really one of the most clever things I've ever seen a football team do. I don't think that works with any kick returner besides Hester. The unfortunate thing is I don't think any team is going to fall for it again. Oh well

frogbs, Monday, 26 September 2011 14:47 (fourteen years ago)

the thing is the opposition had to cooperate right? the punt had to be kicked away from hester (which i guess is a reasonably safe thing to assume the opposing team will do) & the coverage has to not look @ or know where the kick actually went

johnny crunch, Monday, 26 September 2011 14:51 (fourteen years ago)

yeah that's what was so crazy--only works on a directional kick so they probably had to call the play while the punt was in the air.

call all destroyer, Monday, 26 September 2011 14:53 (fourteen years ago)

McCarthy seemed really upset - apparently the coverage team was supposed to know that the kick was going to Knox, but they were probably too afraid of getting burned by Hester (again)

As a Packer fan this is pretty exciting, they aren't even really playing that well and they're still winning. Sure is great to have Finley back.

Hot bartender: Do you want less taste, or do you want a Miller Lite?
Guy 1: I do NOT care about taste
Guy 2: Well, that's the second unmanly thing you've done today...

Yeah as stupid as the Miller Lite ones are or the Coors one where they brag about an indicator that shows you when your beer is literally too cold to taste (which actually makes it enjoyable) are, this is in piss poor taste. IIRC there were a few other commercials that tried to exploit that to sell stuff (usually something a little more substantial than Budweiser) and they went off-air very quickly.

It'd be hard to fault Romo for anything last night. He was surrounded by complete incompetence. I thought at one point he was about to rip his center's head off.
