Houston at New Orleans - question marks on both these teams, so interesting match up. saints tho, and anything else would a legit shockNY Giants at Philadelphia - eagles. giants so bad right nowJacksonville at Carolina - carolina altho cam will throw a combined total of 5 TDs and Ints and the exact split will likely decide itNew England at Buffalo - NE have won this matchup 99 times in a row and the streak has to end sometime, but it just is too unlikely to really credit, especially as the bills seem to be evolving into a store brand version of the patsMiami at Cleveland - miami win away from margaritaville in a result that shockingly seems shockingSan Francisco at Cincinnati - eternal flamesDenver at Tennessee - titsDetroit at Minnesota - detroit i guess. i don't think MN looks quite as hopeless as ppl seem to believe, but...Baltimore at St. Louis - ravens. i was looking forward to seeing what STL and KC came up with this year but neither has been able to keep what weapons they have on the field. at least STL have a chance of coming out of it as the season progressesNY Jets at Oakland - oak win conceivable but unlikelyKansas City at San Diego - boltsArizona at Seattle - i guess we find out for certain if seattle really is the worst team in the nfl. i say why notAtlanta at Tampa Bay - buxxx take advantage of a downswing on the falxxx rollercoasterGreen Bay at Chicago - !BEARS!Pittsburgh at Indianapolis - steelersWashington at Dallas - there is too much prime time nfc east. break this annoying big market division up now, put jax and buffalo in there. fuck these teams. i hope washington wins but the lights might be too bright for rex this time

i don't know if miami will win this week. but if we don't win, we're facing an 0 -- 5 start (next two away, against chargers and jets), and the death spiral will have begun.

Painter is perhaps the worst QB, starting or backup, in the NFL. I can't type enough zeros to convey the odds against him becoming another Brady. My best advice for the Colts is to tank this season and let Manning mentor Andrew Luck. Indianapolis fans will understand.

Fitzpatrick laughs at himself too. He coined the nickname "The Amish Rifle," drives a pickup truck, and might be the only quarterback who wears his wedding ring when he plays. He's married to Liza Barber, a former soccer star at Harvard, and their engagement story is a classic.During his rookie season, Fitzpatrick bought a ring with money from a joint bank account he shared with Barber. He hid it in his car, then picked her up for a day of shopping at a St. Louis mall. They stopped by a clothing store, the clerk accidentally double-charged her, and Barber said not to worry because she'd check the account online when she got home."So I knew she was going to notice the amount of money that was missing," Fitzpatrick said. "So I was like, 'Oh, man.' I had to figure out from the Gap to my house how I was going to propose to her. Luckily, the ring was in the car."We drove by all these fancy places. I asked her if she wanted to grab some dinner and sit by the lake. It was November, and she was like 'Why would I do that? It's freezing outside!' All she wanted was McDonald's. My relationship with my wife, and knowing her, it was just the perfect setting."She ordered probably a 10-piece Chicken McNuggets and had sweet-and-sour sauce on her face."

13-3 last week; 22-10 overall
Houston at New Orleans - Aints, but should be damn competitive; would not be surprised to see this go the other wayNY Giants at Philadelphia - The Giants started out as a bad football team and are going to see themselves get even worse by injury; eagles and bigJacksonville at Carolina - Carolina bandwagon is getting full but I suppose I can fit onNew England at Buffalo - should be a helluva shoot out but the pats are so ridiculously dominant offensively right now that I don't think I'm picking against them this year unless brady gets injuredMiami at Cleveland - I know so little about either of these teams. Miami because they have an animal instead of a color as their mascot.San Francisco at Cincinnati - niners are looking horrible, Cincinnati less horrible than advertised, so the latter.Denver at Tennessee - welp guess this will be another season where the titans pull off a few surprising wins, stampede a few obvious choices, get maimed by the big boys and finish with between 8 and 9 wins. go tits.Detroit at Minnesota - panic time in minnesota but lions are looking playoff ready and prepared to go in strongBaltimore at St. Louis - Ravens, for the maimNY Jets at Oakland - Jets but it's a bad matchup for them and could go either wayKansas City at San Diego - Even the Chargers can't fuck this upArizona at Seattle - Cardinals; this is my survival LOCK OF THE WEEK tmAtlanta at Tampa Bay - Atlanta in a competitive oneGreen Bay at Chicago - Packers until proven otherwisePittsburgh at Indianapolis - Steelers in angry fashionWashington at Dallas - I think the skins are a better team than they're getting credit for and that dallas is even MORE beat up than advertised. Washington.

2 things have been pissing me off about the NE/Bills coverage:
i. everyone saying it is "surprising" that buffalo happen to have won 2 games is equal parts ignorant and patronizingii. apparently if they lose this game to the patriots - a reasonably good team it is prob safe to say - it is all a fraud and they can't possibly actually be a good team

brady plays worse if he doesn't feel under pressure. it's like he loses his focus a little, or maybe he stops trying to risk the tight spots. back in the super bowl days he used to play better the more pressure was on but now he has a definite cinderella spot. i think that's why he has been scoring so much on opening drives - the start of the game is just the right amount of tension.

― daria-g, Sunday, 25 September 2011 18:17 (fourteen years ago)
wow, that draw was so well executed, the guy who was rushing brady literally had no idea what happened to the ball
― Roberto Spiralli, Sunday, 25 September 2011 18:17 (fourteen years ago)
― k3vin k., Sunday, September 25, 2011 2:14 PM (1 minute ago)
he had absolutely no business gaining any yardage on that run, let alone somehow convincing those two giants not to tackle him at the goal line
― k3vin k., Sunday, 25 September 2011 18:17 (fourteen years ago)
bills have got a little nasty since ninkovich's helmet to helmet on fitz
― Roberto Spiralli, Sunday, 25 September 2011 18:18 (fourteen years ago)
yep. idk, he didn't hit fitz that hard
― daria-g, Sunday, 25 September 2011 18:20 (fourteen years ago)

-eagles force 3-and-out & get the ball back at midfield w/ 1:30-20 yd completion to desean-5 yd completion to avant on the sideline...avant insists on being tackled in bounds -last timeout-false start-false start-vick fumbles the snap (again), runs for a yard or so- 4th down, no timeouts and less than 10 secs in the half brent celek literally has to throw a disoriented vick off the field so we can kick a 38 yarder as time expires
― k3vin k., Sunday, 25 September 2011 18:39 (fourteen years ago)
oh btw lesean mccoy went to the locker room for some extra rest after he scored, so we didn't have him on that last drive at all
-last timeout-false start-false start-vick fumbles the snap (again), runs for a yard or so
this is how eagles' season will end. maybe 1st round of the playoffs, maybe the title game, but.. yeah

bills played well and deserved win. pats had a bit of bad luck but mostly just not good enough. you can't have your stupid days against division opponents. pass defense still has obvious problems but better 3rd defense was encouraging i guess.

w/ any lions success jason hanson is the dude im most happy for
so this is a tremendously stupid question but why are teams not finding DBs who are 6'4" and big enough to match up with guys like megatron, vincent jackson etc

― Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 25 September 2011 20:39 (fourteen years ago)
lol waht
― johnny crunch, Sunday, 25 September 2011 20:41 (fourteen years ago)
Was there a reasoning behind this or was he just like actively injecting mind-altering drugs at the time?
― C-L, Sunday, 25 September 2011 20:42 (fourteen years ago)
Carter went on to say: "Calvin Johnson, he's very, very good at Madden and Tecmo Bowl or whatever they're playing now. But on film, when I watch film, and I break down the film, he's not to the point of these guys yet. That doesn't mean he can't play. He just not there yet."
― Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 25 September 2011 20:42 (fourteen years ago)
i would play megatron in tecmo bowl
― J0rdan S., Sunday, 25 September 2011 20:43 (fourteen years ago)

torrey smith has 119 yds & 2 tds so far today
― J0rdan S., Sunday, 25 September 2011 20:45 (fourteen years ago)
I guess he is saying Johnson's not like a super-crisp route runner or something technique-related like that, but...the point of being a wide receiver is to catch the ball, and Calvin Johnson seems to be exceptional at catching the ball, is my thinking.
― C-L, Sunday, 25 September 2011 20:45 (fourteen years ago)
Either that or Cris Carter is basically Joe Morgan.
― C-L, Sunday, 25 September 2011 20:46 (fourteen years ago)

Also credit to Curtis Painter, he did not make terrible life choices under the influence of alcohol, that's better than either of the other QBs who have played in this game.

― Dudley Daigle: Tugboat Captain (forksclovetofu), Monday, 26 September 2011 04:27 (fourteen years ago)
That play was really one of the most clever things I've ever seen a football team do. I don't think that works with any kick returner besides Hester. The unfortunate thing is I don't think any team is going to fall for it again. Oh well
― frogbs, Monday, 26 September 2011 14:47 (fourteen years ago)
the thing is the opposition had to cooperate right? the punt had to be kicked away from hester (which i guess is a reasonably safe thing to assume the opposing team will do) & the coverage has to not look @ or know where the kick actually went
― johnny crunch, Monday, 26 September 2011 14:51 (fourteen years ago)
yeah that's what was so crazy--only works on a directional kick so they probably had to call the play while the punt was in the air.
― call all destroyer, Monday, 26 September 2011 14:53 (fourteen years ago)
McCarthy seemed really upset - apparently the coverage team was supposed to know that the kick was going to Knox, but they were probably too afraid of getting burned by Hester (again)
As a Packer fan this is pretty exciting, they aren't even really playing that well and they're still winning. Sure is great to have Finley back.
Thanksgiving matchup vs. the Lions has the potential to be epic if Detroit can keep pace.

The one where they're on the plane really tilts me, because really who holds a beer like that?
I always wanted to make a spoof of these that would go like this:
Guy 1: I'll take a light beerHot bartender: Do you want less taste, or do you want a Miller Lite?Guy 1: I do NOT care about tasteGuy 2: Well, that's the second unmanly thing you've done today...Guy 1: Wait, what was the first?**flash back to earlier in the day, Guy 1 is jerking off onto his passed out friend's face**Guy 1: Yeah, I guess that was pretty unmanly...
― frogbs, Monday, 26 September 2011 20:33 (fourteen years ago)
imo no half measures, go all the way & just have them making love at the end.
― sorry for party blogging (D-40), Monday, 26 September 2011 20:34 (fourteen years ago)
can't do that, because that would require un-manly behavior by two people. in these commercials it's always just the one guy who won't conform to the group
― frogbs, Monday, 26 September 2011 20:37 (fourteen years ago)

the MOST offensive beer commercial of late to me was the fucking horses bowing in the direction of ground zero budweiser one, get the fuck outta here with that shit
― Dudley Daigle: Tugboat Captain (forksclovetofu), Monday, 26 September 2011 20:47 (fourteen years ago)
Didn't see that. Must go hunt it down and join in the offense.
― Johnny Fever, Monday, 26 September 2011 20:49 (fourteen years ago)
Yeah as stupid as the Miller Lite ones are or the Coors one where they brag about an indicator that shows you when your beer is literally too cold to taste (which actually makes it enjoyable) are, this is in piss poor taste. IIRC there were a few other commercials that tried to exploit that to sell stuff (usually something a little more substantial than Budweiser) and they went off-air very quickly.

on the subject of commercials during the game, i found myself wondering if Axe considers their product to have the same irresistible effect on gay dudes. i have a great idea for a major ad campaign with the tagline AXE: NO HOMO that will really makes waves.
― Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 26 September 2011 21:12 (fourteen years ago)
you know, thinking back, I don't think Miller Lite has ever aired a commercial that wasn't the worst one on TV
― frogbs, Monday, 26 September 2011 21:13 (fourteen years ago)
They have a "little brother" complex re: Bud Light and always feel the need to go one step further.
― Johnny Fever, Monday, 26 September 2011 21:17 (fourteen years ago)
I think beer commercials generally do well when they're not actively insulting their audiences and just try to be funny.
― frogbs, Monday, 26 September 2011 21:21 (fourteen years ago)
I mean, if you want a beer with flavor, try Milwaukee's Beast. I'll drink Miller Lite because it DOESN'T have flavor.
branding miller lite as having a great taste is one of the odder moments of television
― sorry for party blogging (D-40), Monday, 26 September 2011 21:24 (fourteen years ago)

― yung huma (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 27 September 2011 03:36 (fourteen years ago)
someone really needs to make a romo_hit_by_snap.gif compilation after this season
― k3vin k., Tuesday, 27 September 2011 03:36 (fourteen years ago)
haha -- yes, Jason LaCanfora, Romo makes some "amazing plays" "for worse"
because sometimes amazing plays can really hurt a team
i weep
― Stormy Davis, Tuesday, 27 September 2011 03:36 (fourteen years ago)

― daria-g, Tuesday, 27 September 2011 03:43 (fourteen years ago)
how did he not see THAT GUY coming jesus christ
i shudder to think that one of tony romo's greatest victories is a 16-15 win over the rex grossman-led washington redskins
― yung huma (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 27 September 2011 03:43 (fourteen years ago)
that was one of the better played games by the washington redskins in a long time tbh! i just don't understand how TWICE he could not be aware that one of the dallas pass rushers was right behind him about to strip the ball
― daria-g, Tuesday, 27 September 2011 03:46 (fourteen years ago)
that was really a great game, in its way.
― Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 27 September 2011 03:46 (fourteen years ago)
i nominate LOOK OUT THE BALL OW MY FACE for week 4 thread title
― yung huma (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 27 September 2011 03:46 (fourteen years ago)
sorry daria
― horseshoe, Tuesday, 27 September 2011 03:47 (fourteen years ago)
i can't imagine a more fitting end to this game, though
― Stormy Davis, Monday, September 26, 2011 10:51 PM (53 minutes ago) Bookmark
congratulations about your detroit lions btw!
the more fitting end would obvs be for the snapper to catch romo unawares during the kneeldown play and then somebody on the skins special teams runs it in for the td
― daria-g, Tuesday, 27 September 2011 03:48 (fourteen years ago)
basically having watched so much of these two teams i approach the ends of close games with the expectation that if they are ahead, they will find a completely ridiculous way to lose
― daria-g, Tuesday, 27 September 2011 03:49 (fourteen years ago)
horseshoe -- my second favorite team is the Bills (my family roots are in Rochester, although I grew up in Michigan), so this season so far has been magical!
Cowpokes win on 6 field goals? Richie Cunningham set the record, didn't he? I think Cunningham won the game with 7 field goals? I think that was a Monday night game too? I certainly remember watching it...
― Stormy Davis, Tuesday, 27 September 2011 03:53 (fourteen years ago)
― daria-g, Monday, September 26, 2011 11:48 PM (5 minutes ago)
this! how did the redskins not use their last timeout to force another snap!
― k3vin k., Tuesday, 27 September 2011 03:54 (fourteen years ago)

aw i was born in detroit! and it's my dad's favorite city he ever lived in and barry sanders was my first favorite nfl player when i was too young to really understand the game much. yay rust belt!
― horseshoe, Tuesday, 27 September 2011 04:00 (fourteen years ago)
God fuckin dammit
would've gone 13-3 this week if Washington could have pulled it off tonight
― pathos of the unwarranted encore (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Tuesday, 27 September 2011 04:06 (fourteen years ago)
Rust Belt indeed! Lake Erie football! (the Browns are probably my third fave team!) freddie jax is such a great player

sad i missed the end but what a perfect nfc east game--hype, terrible football, and somehow still compelling.
― call all destroyer, Tuesday, 27 September 2011 12:55 (fourteen years ago)
Romo has seriously got to be converting people since his week 1 debacle; seriously, it's so rare to make that many dumb mental mistakes and win anyway...that 3rd and 21 was incredible
― frogbs, Tuesday, 27 September 2011 13:11 (fourteen years ago)
It'd be hard to fault Romo for anything last night. He was surrounded by complete incompetence. I thought at one point he was about to rip his center's head off.
