Matt Armstrong, Wednesday, 26 September 2012 04:42 (thirteen years ago)

There are other things the officials reportedly want. The league wants to create a bench of three additional crews -- 21 additional officials -- who could replace officials who under-perform. The officials naturally don't want that.

"other things the officials want" i.e. something they don't want.

lol. this should cheer you up. a little backgrounf on monday night's referee...

He wasn't deemed good enough to become a Division I college official this summer, according to Karl Richins and his staff of Division I college officials at Stars and Stripes Academy for Football Officials in Salt Lake City.

"I got to know Lance at a June academy I worked at in Reno and when he came to my academy in July," Richins said. "He's a very polite, good Christian gentleman, a good father to his son, Daniel, who was at my academy as well.

"But was Lance ready to work at the NFL level? Absolutely not."

Maybe Browns/Ravens will still have the replacement refs Thursday? This is the only chance for a cleveland victory.

it would be really bizarre, and probably unfair, to have the replacements work on of the games this weekend and the regulars work the other.

I'd like to blame the refs on my 4-12 pick week last week. Maybe the worst week I have ever had on ILNFL. This makes me a Gary Kubiak after year 3 (21-27) for the season. God I got to get my head out my butt....Carolina to beat the Giants, SD to beat the Falcons, wtf?

That said, I do take credit for this one from last week, but this would have gone this way even with Jesus calling fouls in the game.

"New England Patriots @ Baltimore Ravens- I'm taking Pats and the Ravens will whine about the refs."

Browns @ Ravens- Raven's D doesn't look dominating, they even got "zero" points in fantasy last week. I figure the Browns got enough D to maybe hang around, but I got to take the Ravens at home.
Chargers @ Chiefs- Who knows, I guess Chiefs.
49ers @ Jets- Niners should win easy, but weirder things have happened.
Panthers @ Falcons- Falcons.
Patriots @ Bills- Pats, although if Spiller doesn't get hurt, I figure it is a bit more interesting.
Vikings @ Lions- I really want to take the Vikings, but I'm sticking with the Lions at home. Detroit's defense must suck pretty bad though to give up 40+ to the Titans. Suh has kind of disapeared as being a good player, hasn't he?
Seahawks @ Rams- This is an interesting and possibly entertaining game. Rams defense looks pretty real and Fisher has them playing pretty nasty. I'm going Rams.
Titans @ Texans- Texans look loaded. I figure Titans might play them tough. Got to wonder if Schaub can make it through the season.
Dolphins @ Cardinals- I'm taking the Cards, but even at 3-0 and with that Defense, I don't feel good about it.
Bengals @ Jaguars- I'm taking the Bengals on the road. Their offense is purring and I got to think they get up a couple scores, the Jags might have trouble getting back. My fear is looking at that 155 yards a game Cincy is giving up on the ground. That could be trouble.
Saints @ Packers- Wow who picked NO to be 0-3 and GB to be 1-2 in this game? I'm kinda hoping Saints win as a Bears fan anything that puts the Packers in a bad spot is a good thing and them being 1-3 is a good thing. I still got to go with Green Bay.
Raiders @ Broncos- I'm leaning Broncos.
Redskins @ Buccaneers- This is a pickem at this point. I'll take the Bucs, as they are pretty good at stopping the run and are at home.
Giants @ Eagles- These games are always fun. I like the Giants a bit more, but these games always could go either way.
Bears @ Cowboys

earlnash, Wednesday, 26 September 2012 22:57 (thirteen years ago)

I'm going Bears on Monday night, although they should just put Cutler and Romo in the thunderdome and let them scratch each other's eyes out to the death. America would pay for that.

Looking at it again, I actually went 5-11 (oh joy.) but still...it was a really as weird a week for results as I have seen for a good long while. My 5 wins were (Bears, NE, Cowboys, Bills, Houston).

KINDA BIG UPSETS or at least surprising wins- Vikings HOME (Niners), Raiders HOME(Steelers), Cardz HOME (Eagles), Seahawks HOME(Packers) & Chiefs (Saints) well KC was on the road.

That's half of them and who knows many of those teams winning those close games might be tied to the +3 Vegas is giving home teams in the fantasy ref era on spreads.

HARD TO CALL or go figure..either 'could' win.
Jets (Dolphins) no body liking NYJ it's in Miami, Bengals on road (washington), Jags (Colts)...Gabbert?, Titans (Lions) that game was just nuts.

Panthers (Giants), Chargers (Falcons) to win were pretty much folly and dumb choices by me.

That said, that's a whole lot of weird winners for one week.

earlnash, Thursday, 27 September 2012 02:14 (thirteen years ago)

So now my year is 22-26, EXACTLY where Gary Kubiak was at year 3. I guess last week is my Sage Rosenfeld's picks.

Tenth-year veteran referee Gene Steratore, No. 114 in your program and No. 1 in your hearts after Monday night's replacement ref debacle in Seattle, will be making the calls and hoping not to show too much rust in his first pro game in eight months.

Also on the field will be umpire Bill Schuster, head linesman Wayne Mackie, line judge Jeff Seeman, field judge Bob Waggoner, side judge Jimmy De Bell and back judge Greg Steed.

Turned out to be a decent call.

Browns might be 0-4, but they seem closer. It will be interesting to see how their season develops and if they improve. AFC North is a witch of a division. With B-more and Pittsburgh being competitive to great every year for a decade, kinda hard to get a whole lot of momentum. Same has been true for the Bengals for a long time too.

the nfl is kind of really stupid sometimes. like at the end of games teams need to just drive like 30 yards and then bomb a FG.

smh at meriweather concussing his own teammate before the game

instafapper (J0rdan S.), Monday, 1 October 2012 03:48 (thirteen years ago)

icing kickers is really odd bc coaches are generally risk adverse when it comes to that kind of thing. if you don't ice the kicker and he makes the kick, no one criticizes you for not icing the kicker. but ice the kicker and he makes the second kick and people are FURIOUS.

Mordy, Monday, 1 October 2012 03:49 (thirteen years ago)

still not convinced about the Vikes though that victory over SF was damn impressive. that said their offense really only scored 6 points.

frogbs, Monday, 1 October 2012 05:05 (thirteen years ago)

they pretty much dominated detroit all game today

instafapper (J0rdan S.), Monday, 1 October 2012 05:06 (thirteen years ago)

yes, but Detroit's D is awful, they need to put up more than 6! especially given their penchant for giving up big plays and all

that said Minny's defense is looking pretty okay...

so many wins with insane comebacks and megatron jump balls; that's not a long-term strategy

Matt Armstrong, Monday, 1 October 2012 08:31 (thirteen years ago)

it really sucks that the lions can't put it together, we need more Megatron in our lives

Matt Armstrong, Monday, 1 October 2012 08:32 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah one of the announcers pointed out that since the 5-0 start the Lions have gone 6-10. I think people overrate Stafford in general because of his stats when he really only has those stats because his team seems to always be in the hole. They look noticeably different in the 4th quarter when they're behind. Kinda having doubts about Schwartz.

david brooks in a wu torture skit (Hunt3r), Monday, 1 October 2012 14:36 (thirteen years ago)

I have been pretty impressed with Christian Ponder these last four games. He looked in over his head last year but now seems to be feeling pressure much better and has a better intuition for where the open guys are going to be, basically everything Mark Sanchez was supposed to get better at but didn't. Having AP is a big part of this obviously but still Vikings fans have a pretty legitimate reason to get excited, the idea of a potential young franchise QB must be such a foreign concept to them

la goonies (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 2 October 2012 02:58 (thirteen years ago)

yeah it's a stupid challenge. the PI clearly happened before the tip.

lil dirk (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 2 October 2012 02:59 (thirteen years ago)

I think it's just a terrible rule

Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 2 October 2012 03:02 (thirteen years ago)

isn't the entire idea of the review perverted by the fact that each team has someone upstairs watching the broadcast who can just tell them whether or not to review the play

lil dirk (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 2 October 2012 03:03 (thirteen years ago)

some ref should write a memoir called "a terrible rule well-enforced"

Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 2 October 2012 03:03 (thirteen years ago)

the rule makes sense in theory -- like if a ball is tipped you can hold or knock a receiver down to prevent him from catching it. that was a pretty liberal interpretation imo... either that or the rule is far too liberal.

lil dirk (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 2 October 2012 03:03 (thirteen years ago)

i don't think i get this rule?

― call all destroyer, Monday, October 1, 2012 11:02 PM (18 seconds ago)

i think that because the ref hadnt physicall thrown the flag before the ball was tipped, the PI is waved off. it was certainly at least defensive holding, but i guess you can't change the call to something else, it's either PI or it's not. stupid

la goonies (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 2 October 2012 03:03 (thirteen years ago)

if the rule is that a tip at any point in the play negates any interference at any point in the play is fucking stupid tho

lil dirk (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 2 October 2012 03:04 (thirteen years ago)

it didn't seem like it was at any point, it seemed like it was if the pi was before the tip. but as kev said that's just defensive holding!
