challopy pix are pack to win at candlestick and seattle to lose in charlotte. feel like those are awkward fixtures both and that niners and hawks are good candidates for an opening day stumble. cincy winning in chicago too i guess, although that is not too far of a reach.

lots of interesting games, despite the fact that more teams than usual look to be bad. but some opportunities for a clue to which bad team(s) will pull off a big turnaround.

Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 3 September 2013 18:30 (eleven years ago)

sidenote: did anyone watch the Baltimore ep of 'America's game' the other night?

it was ok. kinda boring? i observed to Mr Veg that Ray Lewis talks like he thinks every thing he says is should be an image macro on Facebook. Harbaugh too, kinda. Him and Harbaugh are weird to listen to.

buffalo decide to start their injured rookie QB. belichick: "There’s not a whole lot of film on either guy." that is a zing right?

is baltimores D gonna be terrible? i'm scurred I should drop them in fantasy. bad matchup and they blew in lol preseason.

best null wave (bnw), Wednesday, 4 September 2013 14:47 (eleven years ago)

baltimore D is never terrible but they are becoming more offense first, which is pretty weird all round. despite all the departures i don't think they lost anyone in the offseason who was that much of a big deal during their championship season.

Roberto Spiralli, Wednesday, 4 September 2013 15:04 (eleven years ago)

depending on how much credit you want to give veteran leadership i guess

Roberto Spiralli, Wednesday, 4 September 2013 15:09 (eleven years ago)

Ravens @ Broncos- It's probably a toss up as the Ravens are pretty unknown and Denver is missing a couple of key people for a bit. I'll take Denver at home.
Falcons @ Saints- They have played each other for years, but this has actually become a pretty key rivalry. It's a pick em' game again I say. Falcons should be on the short list for the Superbowl, but I really kind of wonder about their defense especially their pass rush. I could see them just turning into a big shootout team. Saints got a bit to prove and I think will take ATL at home.
Bengals @ Bears- Midwestern clubs that rarely play each other. On paper, I got to say you really might straight up lean Bengals at least on what they did last year and what they picked up. That said, I still think the Dalton gang period Bengals still have some things to prove before I will pick them over the Bears in Soldier Field. Not that this Bear club doesn't have questions.
Chiefs @ Jaguars- Chiefs but I am curious about the Jags to see how they do.
Dolphins @ Browns- I’m going Miami for continuity sake. It could be a good game though.
Vikings @ Lions- It is a division game, so that adds a wrinkle to the game. I guess Vikings, but I don’t feel secure in it.
Patriots @ Bills- Pats
Raiders @ Colts- Colts, it would be a heck of an upset if the Raiders won and would be a story in the football talk world.
Seahawks @ Panthers- Got to go with the favorite Seahawks, but I could believe this would be a pretty competitive game.
Buccaneers @ Jets- You have to think Bucs, but I could believe Rex Ryan’s defense could make it a totally fugly field goal game.
Titans @ Steelers- Pittsburgh, Tennessee doesn’t really seem to have that much of an identity as a club these days.
Cardinals @ Rams- Rams but again it is a division game, so it could be interesting.
Packers @ 49ers- This is a pickem, I’ll take the Pack in an upset.
Giants @ Cowboys- God I hope the Giants win and I’ll take New York, but I think it could go either way.
Eagles @ Redskins- RGIII might be rusty but the Eagles just don’t seem to be that good a place.
Texans @ Chargers- I’ll take Texans. I am however curious to see what becomes of Phillip Rivers. That dude kinda sucked last year, was it a fluke or is he just not that good now?

Ben Franklin would have been an Eagles fan, which explains going out and playing with a kite in lightning.

I'm not sure Joe Flacco as QB shootout type game is the offense B-more wants to run. It's also really weird to see Brandon Stokley and Dallas Clark both playing for the Ravens (even though I know Stokely played there back in Bush's first term).

i am hating that the 'no/inexperienced receivers' storyline that has been lazily trotted out for weeks is actually playing out. altho brady should surely know that julian edelman can only catch short throws. it's like he is petulantly demonstrating that he could make the throws if he had an actual wide receiver on the outside

Roberto Spiralli, Sunday, 8 September 2013 19:43 (eleven years ago)

Few things on Niners/Packers game...

Green Bay is good, but man they are susceptible to the dumb penalty and big play on defense.

Boldin is a beast going across the middle. The guy is like a guy that can catch Charlie Joiner in traffic but like bringing down a full back. No corner or safety is going to arm tackle him down.

Thinking about Frank Gore's good career if somewhat in the shadows in the NFL sense, is he the best running back to ever come out of the U?

Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 9 September 2013 03:06 (eleven years ago)

Willis McGahee deserves some props for over coming a couple of huge bad injuries to have a pretty nice long career in the NFL, especially that one in the Fiesta Bowl.

Nice to see the scoring a bit down and less Techmo bowl in week one. The last two years with the various issues with labor had led to some pretty fugly football opening the season. As teams wear down from injuries the big points will probably come back, but I think clubs are starting to get the hang of how to slow down pass happy offenses. The key is just make them throw it short, don't miss tackles and doing dumb hits for penalties.

earlnash, Monday, 9 September 2013 03:07 (eleven years ago)

i know i shouldn't be but i am amazed that we have arrived at a point where the giants could win this game
