“Yeah I still got it,” he said, laughing. “Of course I still got it. That’s the thing. When you retire on your own terms, you can make the argument that you still have it.”

Last week 11-4 for the season 43-20

Buffalo at Cleveland- This is a pickem game. No real idea, so give me the Browns at home.
New England at Cincinnati- Pats but I wonder if clubs will run mad against NE with Wilfork out like what happened the last time he got hurt.
Detroit at Green Bay- Packers
Seattle at Indianapolis- I hope this game is on TV around where I live. I'm taking the Colts, mostly as Seattle hasn't been quite as dominant on the road. This should be a good game.
Baltimore at Miami- This is a total hangover game...I guess Ravens, but I will believe it if close or goes other way.
New Orleans at Chicago- Saints. Bears 'might' give them a game and 'might' have enough offense to go toe to toe with them, but unless they get some big turnovers which they can do, I got to go New Orleans with their improved defense.
Philadelphia at N.Y. Giants- Boy this is a fugly matchup. I'm taking the Eagles but I don't like either club at this point.
Jacksonville at St. Louis- Rams, but this could be the Jags Superbowl to keep from going o-fer.
Kansas City at Tennessee- It will be interesting to see which club is more the real deal as the season goes on. I'll take Titans as they have played a bit better competition.
Carolina at Arizona- I'll take the Cards as Carolina seems to play well enough to just lose these type matchups.
Denver at Dallas- I'll take the Broncos, but I could see this being closer than you think, especially if Denver turns over the ball a couple of times stupid.
Houston at San Francisco- Both of these clubs don't seem to be figuring it out so far, but I got to think the Niners will win.
San Diego at Oakland- Chargers but I hope Oaktown wins.
N.Y. Jets at Atlanta- Don't like the Falcons this year, their defense is substandard and they just are not as good on offense as the past couple of seasons. Atlanta to win, but if the game is totally fugly, I could see the Jets hanging around.

earlnash, Tuesday, 1 October 2013 22:58 (eleven years ago)

This will be the second week in a row Julio Jones will have to beat an elite corner. If Jackson comes back and can keep the rushing game going, a win is possible. They won't win this through the air, though.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 1 October 2013 23:31 (eleven years ago)

that's generous to talib but the jets definitely don't have an elite corner

Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 1 October 2013 23:36 (eleven years ago)

Cromartie gets his job done imo.

http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/9759786/donte-whitner-san-francisco-49ers-changing-name-hitner-fine

San Francisco 49ers safety Donte Whitner, who has revealed he was fined $21,000 by the league for a hit during last Thursday night's victory over the St. Louis Rams, said Wednesday he's dropping the "W" from his last name.

"I actually put the paperwork in yesterday afternoon. Just waiting to get the paperwork out," he said in a conference call with the Houston media. "So from here on out until I retire, my name will be Donte Hitner, without the W."

has a QB ever made more money for doing less than Matt Flynn? he's made like $20 mil and he's started like 3 games. as a backup to Rodgers and Wilson he's done almost nothing.

Neanderthal, Friday, 4 October 2013 17:16 (eleven years ago)

weeden looks exactly like he did last year but i still like him as a backup, for a game here and there. but this...

guide to our reinstalled QB:

1. stare down primary receiver
2. pat ball
3. wait and wait until primary receiver gets open
a. Rifle ball one million miles an hour or
b. Take sack

brownie, Friday, 4 October 2013 17:23 (eleven years ago)

he does throw a good looking long ball, but he has no touch on the short stuff. eh, it'll be interesting I guess

brownie, Friday, 4 October 2013 17:25 (eleven years ago)

thought Norv made some really nice adjustments when weeden came in, taking advantage of his strengths (bazooka) and buffalo's weaknesses (scout-team secondary) with one-on-one deep routes. obv going to be tough to keep the league from figuring that one out, esp. without a serious run game, but if anyone can do it Norv can.

resulting post (rogermexico.), Friday, 4 October 2013 17:39 (eleven years ago)

Neanderthal, Friday, 4 October 2013 18:00 (eleven years ago)

there's a nice slate of 1pm games this week, that's going to be some good redzoning. i agree with earl that indy most likely beats seattle, which is weird but seattle haven't traveled so well and indy keep playing well despite me waiting for them to drop off. i have a hunch cincy beats new england too. brady should be able to move on that beat up secondary but i think the bengals will rattle things up front, and on defense i can imagine NE missing their mark on compensating for the loss of wilfork, maybe a lot of brandon spikes in against a run game that doesn't warrant it, and dalton frequently finds a hole in the middle. saints vs bears is a booming game and if the saints win in chicago they really look good. i think we'll have 2 5-0s, new orleans and denver.

Cincy radio had a pretty funny commercial talking about having the Pats/Bengals game that week.

It was read totally radio dead pan and went something like this...

"New England's quarterback has won 3 Superbowls, 2 NFL MVPs and is married to a supermodel.

The Bengals's quarterback has red hair and is named Andy.

Patriots at the Bengals 1pm Sunday..."

It made me chuckle.

what's the deal w/ the giants?

Mordy , Sunday, 6 October 2013 18:27 (eleven years ago)

they're terrible

J0rdan S., Sunday, 6 October 2013 18:28 (eleven years ago)

they have a bad line and no running game, aging D line and no playmakers (besides rolle) in the back 7

J0rdan S., Sunday, 6 October 2013 18:29 (eleven years ago)

are they a substantially different team from the 2012 SB winners?

Mordy , Sunday, 6 October 2013 18:30 (eleven years ago)

or just older?

Mordy , Sunday, 6 October 2013 18:30 (eleven years ago)

they went 9-7 that year so it's not like they were some juggernaut

J0rdan S., Sunday, 6 October 2013 18:31 (eleven years ago)

it is hard to pick one or two obvious problems with the team because every part of the team seems to have gone crappy at once

Roberto Spiralli, Sunday, 6 October 2013 18:32 (eleven years ago)

all they have is talent at WR and a pretty good WR

J0rdan S., Sunday, 6 October 2013 18:35 (eleven years ago)

their pass rush died and they haven't acquired any difference makers anywhere else on defense save for rolle

J0rdan S., Sunday, 6 October 2013 18:35 (eleven years ago)

IRVING, Texas -- All due respect to Peyton Manning, but some Dallas Cowboys defenders would rather not participate in all the raving about the Denver Broncos quarterback's record-setting pace.

Manning leads the league in every major passing category entering Sunday's game at AT&T Stadium, having thrown for 1,470 yards and 16 touchdowns without an interception during Denver's 4-0 start. Those numbers, along with Manning's 138.0 passer rating, project to shatter NFL records for a season.

Naturally, Manning's spectacular start has provided ample fodder for media questioning in the Cowboys' locker room this week.

"I'm sick of hearing about Peyton Manning this and that and that," said linebacker Ernie Sims, who expects to replace struggling starter Bruce Carter in the lineup Sunday. "We've got to go out and do what we've got to do. You hear it all the time. Guys walk in the locker room: 'Peyton Manning threw for four touchdowns, this and that.' I'm just sick of it."

Cincinatti's quarterback has red hair and is named Andy.

Both the Bengal/NE and Colt/Seattle games were great. It was awesome flipping between the two today.

Oh yeah comments on a couple of things that have been discussed...

Nick Saban leaving Miami I think looks like a pretty smart move in hindsight, even though how it went down was pretty fugly. Miami changed owners and really the Dolphin management until the last season or so was pretty inept, which along with getting offered a ton of cash and one of the cherry jobs in college football looks now with the success a pretty no-brainer decision at this point. That said, Alabama somehow rides it out and wins three in a row, Saban is going to be looking like Alexander with no other places to conquer in college football. Nick Saban was unsuccessful in the NFL but I would think that with the success that Pete Carroll and Jim Harbaugh have had coming out of the NCAA, he is really the top head coaching prospect in all of football.

I don't know if their ego's can let it happen, but you know the unholy alliance of Nick Saban going into the Jerrydome to coach Dallas Cowboys has to be considered a possibility for next season. They got some talent, but it continues to just not gell and if they come up disappointing, especially with the NFC East just terrible, it has to be considered a possibility.

Point two, I think that Nick Saban interview does point out that even when players seem to be struggling that it can be difficult to really say the player isn't any good unless you are really looking at the details of the game and what else happened. Has Tom Brady lost a step or is it really that the Pats offense has just way less talent over all than they have had in years and their game plan just ill-suited to the talent.

Third thing I want to throw out there after watching the Colts today. Andrew Luck has a freaking howitzer of an arm. That guy can throw a beautiful long ball. You can talk whatever success the other young QBs have had over the past couple years, I don't see any of them being able to throw 40 yard outs like that. It's a serious early Dan Marino mad bomber/Kurt Warner Greatest Show on Turf type long ball.

earlnash, Monday, 7 October 2013 02:16 (eleven years ago)

I've said for years that if Saban does move back into the NFL, it will be to coach Dallas. Jerry Jones has a real boner for the guy, and Dallas could use someone who halfway knows what he's doing. Dunno if or when that will ever happen. I believe him when he says he's found a home in Tuscaloosa and that his heart really is in the college game, but I've already made peace with the possibility I could wake up one morning and find out he's gone.

Schiano made a power play, I think, and instead of standing up to him, Freeman just kind of passive-aggressively undercut him until I got dropped right off the team. The dude's raw talent is through the roof, but he's been coached right into a shell.

Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 8 October 2013 18:19 (eleven years ago)

That's not a bad idea. KC is hurting at tight end, and Gonzalez could go out on a high note.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 8 October 2013 18:39 (eleven years ago)

if you can get any pick for a retiring player in a dead season it is a total no-brainer, but probably the chiefs wouldn't go for it. any team that would is probably not one that is going to give him the post-season to make it worthwhile.
