Sub Board Mod Rights

I mean it's one thing for me to stroll into, say, I Love Baseball and start posting a bunch of bullshit. I understand why I'd get banned. But if I'm using a board that no one else is, why is it fair that someone who still has a mod position on that board but never posts there gets to fuck with my (innocuous) threads?

It seems to me that it's just down to you guys not liking Kate. DG should be a mod of ILE, despite having been absent for years, yet Kate shouldn't be a mod because you want to use her board to snark about other ILXors and she won't let you. UH?

I hate all that navel-gazy shite, and don't want to encourage it, but as a compromise perhaps there are other defunct boards for you to encamp to? I Love WWE has no board mod, for instance.

I wasn't even aware Kate was the mod there. It has nothing to do with any dislike of Kate for me, and I can't recall anything to do with Kate in any of the new threads on IDME (although I'm willing to be proved wrong), certainly not the one that became the impetus for this thread. While taking it to another board is certainly a reasonable idea, there was really no reason why it should have come to this.

Given that she won't let people mention things she's not interested in on threads she starts, it's not unsurprising how it turned out, though.

could we just have a new board then stet. i dunno who 'we' are exactly. these dudes, the revivalists... zingers worldwide.

Uh, I don't know how anyone else feels, but squatter's rights seem a lot more "fair" than letting someone who has no use for the board (someone who hadn't until recently even posted on ILX for a long period) mod it.

Let me make it clear that I'm not defending the meta shit on its merits, or saying that anyone has a "right" to do it, or claiming that it isn't sometimes (often) fucked-up, creepy, over-the-line, etc. Just saying that it will happen so long as Dom is given access to the internet and if we want to avoid 1500-post "WHATS WRONG WITH ILX" threads that make everyone want to kill themselves, it's probably in ILX's best interests to give him (and others) a playground.

80% of the threads on idme were who is a better poster polls that have been done on noize plenty of times and are ultimately harmless to people who don't get butthurt over what people think of their message board posts, or just straight re-post meta that is completely harmless.

as for who can decide the line-- max, rev, grady, chaki-- these are people that could be reasonably trusted to maintain some sense of civility imo

and if a site-wide mod has to step in from time to time, how is that any more work than having to chase gershy/dom/whoever across the rest of the dormant boards which is what inevitably is going to happen

In general: they still belong to their owners no matter how long they've been defunct. De Subjectivisten came back after a long period, Aeon Flux erupts from time to time, Workshy still might. Exceptions sometimes made.

I really don't like this at all, and Chaki, I think yr nuts for taking this in on yer board, but short of pulling a night of the long knives on dom quitney et al, which I don't want to do....some rules:

1/anything that is creepy enough to make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up gets moved to another board and deleted. Guess what? I'm about to do that with 2 threads already. Here's a couple of hints; a/"I would fuck poster a" not cool. b/"researching ur life" type shit. not cool. For example 1 - You want to talk smack about the poster who was not what she appeared to be? fine, though I don't see the point of repeatedly raking over that one myself. BUT, if you want to rake up drama over the people that got taken in by this person, no good. The reason why should be obvious. For example 2 - "guys, poster a and poster b had a relationship drama in 2002 or whatever, where are the threads relating to this drama" shit like this will get you banned from the site permanently.

2/anyone complains about something posted about them, it gets deleted, no exceptions. I don't give a fuck if it's a best-loved 500-post thread, filled with adolescent twattery carefully crafted zings, it goes. This is part of the faq, which has been up for a long long time:

Personal threads. If a thread is started discussing a registered user or their actions, that user has the right to ask for it to be deleted or locked. The thread does not have to be an attack on the user. This does not apply to threads users start themselves and later regret.

it still applies. If someone complains about a thread talking about them, they are not the problem, the thread is the problem.

3/I want to see some positive effect on ILE/ILM as a result of this. If people are going to snark on ask chaki, and continue to snark on ILE, then it's pointless.

I agree with Pash here - I think 95% of the recent IDME meta stuff has been largely harmless and the remaining 5% has been fucking creepy, but good to get the ground rules/line in the sand drawn now.
