Yeah you can make fun of that by trashing the education standards of my hometown but I live in a city with an est. pop of 1,600,000. 32% of the city is bilingual and they all get to do TOEFL tests when they graduate. I rarely get the chance to speak it with anyone tho so I'm a tad rusty and unfortunately the sole contact I get with the language is via internet and this has proven to worsen my knowledge on the language rather than enhance it.

I honestly think Moka should stay, because she just needs to learn some of our rules and bylaws. we could probably teach them in a day and she's probably a quicker learner than tuomas.

To be fair, she has been posting for a year or so, and if she was going to pick up the right balance of thick skin, abusiveness, and 21st century ennui to stop getting noticed on ILM then you'd have thought she'd have it by now.

But yeah, no one really want to ban her. I think she just cropped up on wilter's radar a few too many times in a short period and he genuinely thought she was a sock.

ILx runs into these car crashes regularly and it's strictly a question of volume and percentage. Get a handful of pretty solid long term regulars who can nevertheless be a teeny weeny bit irritating at times, add fifty or so posters who are a regular fucking pain in the arse, stir in and sprinkle with the assorted random freaks and ingrates you're inevitably going to get as the site traffic increases and you have the moderator's nightmare.

I don't know that there's an easy solution but given that all SBs have to be approved by moderators before they come into effect then it's hard to see how they could be regarded as unreasonable. I didn't have problems with Tuomas for instance but I can see how other people may have done. Same with Moka. It's all a question of self discipline really; think before you post, etc.*

This isn't actually true fwiw - SBs automatically accrue and a poster is automatically banned if they exceed 51 votes. Mods can reduce the SB total if need be (ie if there's evidence of an organised effort to get a particular poster banned) but that has only happened once to my knowledge.

wilter & velko came on a little strong but nothing majorly out of bounds, guys genuinely thought she was a sock but eventually came around to saying oops we fucked up and we feel like kuntz. moka stormed off but that was a childish reaction, there was a misunderstanding that was on the cusp of being resolved and ppl were mostly joshing around by the time she decided to up sticks in a huff.
