I think he thinks that we're policing morbs ideas too hard for modern acceptable word usage when he thinks his ideas actually have a certain value, even pre-eminence. It's kind of a 90's PC wars ambivalence that I sometimes share but I also find it a virtue not to let myself get distracted from a would-be valid point by using language I think likely to derail a discussion or cause needless offense.

I know that people aren't really seeing the roots of my issue with Nicole and some dude here wrt Melissa, perhaps because she posts so rarely that it can easily be missed. But that's what has made this all the more apparent to me. She can't post one two word remark without one of the two of them coming out of the woodwork to say something snide and targeted at her, and it has been going on for years. And I don't get it. Melissa is exceedingly kind and only ever gets bullshit like this in response, and it tests my fucking patience.

tbh I don't think there's a hard and fast rule about banning due to real name-dropping, not even really an offense unless that person has expressly said not to use their real name previously, which wasn't the case in the DJP/Morbius incident, I think. I know I've used DJP's name occasionally but I don't think he cares?

I've previously argued that using a person's /first/ name, and that alone, on a thread isn't really that big of a deal even if they want some semblance of anonymity, unless they have a name that's either uniquely identifiable on the board or uniquely identifiable in the world at large. For instance, googling nabisco's first name definitely leads you to him pretty quickly, whereas googling "mike" isn't going to do much to track me down on ilx, let alone in the world at large.

I think it's reasonable to account for the fact that some ILXors have actual IRL overenthusiastic/creepy fans and others don't when making these sorts of decisions.

My father was repeatedly shot and somehow survived it. *Plenty* other relatives, kidnapped. I was just expressing frustration at opening that thread reading more of same old shit (though serves me right for opening a beefs thread to begin with, I guess). i don't know how helpful it is to chime in here, neither do I really want to stand around not saying anything, so... Anyway, I've had similar confrontations with WCC in only the last couple of weeks - ones which have escalated extremely rapidly from polite thread conversation > assumed insinuation > belligerent and wilful misunderstandings > aggressive accusations > seeing myself being bitched about on Twitter, and while it's frustrating and upsetting to be accused of advocating misogyny/sexual abuse/and more because of some minor incompatibility of views on some band or other, seeing it aired in places outside of ILX is, well it's pretty shocking when you come across it.
What I'm more concerned about is why this seems to be happening so often. I've met and gotten along very well with WCC in the past (several years ago now) - she's a thoroughly nice person IRL and I'm therefore alarmed at the way some of these beefs appear to escalate. It's never been my intention to cause pile-ons or act like (too much of) a dick on this board, and somehow I still end up in that maelstrom - being called out for pretty much anything I post that doesn't quite jibe with the poster's particular point of view. I love a heated and healthy debate, but when labels and accusations are thrown around in a personal manner, it goes from fun to sad very very quickly. When a poster's genuine attempts to make peace and get back on track with a thread are immediately thrown back in their face with even uglier accusations, that's the tipping point where the issue has to be addressed (as on this thread) - especially when it's not only disrupting the flow of conversation but actively upsetting other people and even putting a mark on their character, usually undeserved.
