A bright pair of newcomers called BROS (King Boy Pato), Sunday, 28 December 2008 10:25 (seventeen years ago)

You know Warne will be back for the Ashes as Australia will panic.

he certainly looks fit enough

Filmer Thomas (wilter), Tuesday, 30 December 2008 01:29 (seventeen years ago)

This "Warne will be back for Ashes blah lol panic" line is quite unimaginative. Surely Australia's fad for offies will lead them all the way back to a revitalised Tim May

claudestock carpentinieri (country matters), Tuesday, 30 December 2008 01:30 (seventeen years ago)

We could go to this today (it's empty and we live ~5km away) but cbf.

Pope Gay Homo Awful House Music (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 30 December 2008 02:33 (seventeen years ago)

Have found a great live stream of Sky Sports, but have not worked out who the Aussie commentator currently on is. The only ones I know right away are Lawry and Benaud tbh. I'm assuming the other dude is Healy. He's a bit dunderheaded.

Pope Gay Homo Awful House Music (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 30 December 2008 02:37 (seventeen years ago)

Shame you get stuck with 9's soporific dunderhead line-up. ABC radio does an excellent commentary that's in cahoots with the BBC and truly puts 9 to shame.

Neil S, Tuesday, 30 December 2008 14:03 (seventeen years ago)

It's a LITTLE overstated in its seizure of moment, but this is what journalists do, and in this admittedly epochal instance he's entitled to a metanarrative or two. He writes well, whatever you say about him (and his unashamedly pro-Aussie perspective). Certainly he hasn't shirked from praise, and he's not being as doomy about Australia as he could have been ("give a few youngsters a go" is probably the fairest response to all this).

claudestock carpentinieri (country matters), Tuesday, 30 December 2008 14:07 (seventeen years ago)

Peter English is my favourite Australian Cricinfo writer fwiw, although he seems to be feeling the burn a little more than Roebuck, probably because he's actually Australian.

claudestock carpentinieri (country matters), Tuesday, 30 December 2008 14:08 (seventeen years ago)

Australia should have given a few youngsters a go years and years ago. It clinged to its geriatric stars for way too long, leaving wide open the obvious possibility of them all retiring within a short space of time and rendering the team a bit shit.

better haydos article
Hayden did not get much chance to prove himself against high pace. If that is to be held against him, then it must be held against every batsman of the era. The tendency to pick holes in his record is to be resisted. Like most batsmen, his best years were between 28 and 35. Unlike most players of his stature, these years roughly defined his Test career. In part that explains his impressive returns.

I ended up going to both the ODI match at the SCG AND the Twenty20 Big Bash Final the next night at the Olympic Stadium.

I was much more drunk at the former but enjoyed the latter game much more from a cricketing standpoint (that's even with Warner's gutsy knock in the former). And much better for transporting issues too since CityRail got me home quickly and for free.

Hello, this is John Blackman from Telecom MobileNet, who's that? (King Boy Pato), Sunday, 25 January 2009 13:39 (seventeen years ago)

So...are we looking forward to the new footy seasons or what? In AFL, I think Carlton will make the finals this year. In NRL, I've still yet to decide if I'm supporting a team or not.

India's two current champion ODI cricketers showing just how to devastate a bowling attack btw

america is the only _______ that _______ (country matters), Tuesday, 3 February 2009 11:27 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, exactly. It was like King Street in Newtown (another reference you won't get, son) on a cricket pitch during the late-90s. These days I don't think it's that...um, lesbian. I mean, they have spunky Ellyse Perry now right!

PS: big deal, wake me when they can score a six off an awkward cut like D. Warner!

Skank Bloc Burwood (King Boy Pato), Tuesday, 3 February 2009 11:33 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, anyway I heard that one non-lesbian was called Zoe or something and was forced to retire due to dressing-room tension.

america is the only _______ that _______ (country matters), Tuesday, 3 February 2009 11:37 (seventeen years ago)

Dunno if Ellyse has chosen yet. She played for Central Coast's ladies team so it's still up for grabs.

People who died this year: several former Test players (male and female), former administrators and "Brave" Jane McGrath (who DIED OF THE CANCERS).

Skank Bloc Burwood (King Boy Pato), Wednesday, 4 February 2009 12:26 (seventeen years ago)

lol it is funny how Zimbabwe would have knocked Aus out of the 2020 WC at the group stage if England were actually any good

I've been following the Zimbabwe side, and it's actually fairly settled now, with some genuinely talented young players. If they get their country sorted out a bit I see no reason why they can't return to the Test fold.

lol aw bless Fowler, he doesn't need the money at ALL (unless his multimegamillionaire housing/horseracing empire has fallen with the crunch), must be for the love of the game :)

(seriously)

He'll be lucky to be the next Zoehrer.

Speaking of Timmy Z...I was in a huge second-book shop this evening that had almost every crappy Cricketer autobiography from Max Walker's collection of "hilarious" anecdotes to Mark Taylor's "Taylor Made" but the only book I couldn't find is the one that I want the most, the Z-Man's "The Gloves Are Off...Now For The Facts!"
